SARAH ROCKS!

First, I would like to see all the Sarah doubters and detractors in the Beltway/Manhattan corridor eat their words.
Eat them.
Sarah Palin is the real deal. Five weeks on the campaign trail, thrust onto the national stage, she rocked tonight’s debate.
She was warm, fresh, funny, confident, energetic, personable, relentless, and on message. She roasted Obama’s flip-flops on the surge and tea-with-dictators declarations, dinged Biden’s bash-Bush rhetoric, challenged the blame-America defeatism of the Left, and exuded the sunny optimism that energized the base in the first place.
McCain has not done many things right. But Sarah Palin proved tonight that the VP risk he took was worth it.
Her performance also underscored the underhandedness of the hatchet job editors at ABC News and CBS News, which failed to capture her solid competence on the whole array of foreign and domestic policy issues on the debate table tonight. (I didn’t care for all the “greed” rhetoric, but I understand they are trying to appeal to independents and Dems. They’re trying to win the election.)
Pause to reflect on this: She matched — and trumped several times — a man who has spent his entire adult life on the political stage, run for president twice, and as he mentioned several times, chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Sarah Palin looked presidential.
Joe Biden looked tired.
Sarah made history.
Biden is history.
***
Prediction: Watch for a whole new, severe strain of Palin Derangement Syndrome to begin tonight.
They hated her before tonight. They are going to pour on more unfathomable hate at a level we have never seen before.
Sarah, we’re praying for you.
***
Frank Luntz’s focus group agrees: Sarah rocks.
Reader Brett had a sharp observation: “Palin amazingly avoided falling into a trap when Gwen Ifill asked whether she agreed with Biden on a [particular] issue — instead Palin repeated the question and stated her answer — rather than say ‘I agree’ — like Obama said so many times at an earlier debate.”
Yes, that was excellent.
I have been involved in and observed politics for a long time. Governor Palin is a truly unique national figure. She is down to earth, personable, and smart as hell. That’s right. She has been on the national scene for a little over a month, she has been campaigning everywhere, she has had to bone up on all kinds of national issues, and she has shown class throughout. Too often too many are persuaded by the mainstream media’s opinion and react to that. This should be another lesson in that regard. As for some of her populist views, she cannot openly campaign against the positions of her presidential running mate. She is the bright light in this campaign from my perspective.

Previous: Liveblogging the debate.
***
As for Gwen “Age of Obama” Ifill, she behaved herself for the most part. She was duly chastened. But the questions and the controversy and the double standards don’t go away. As I wrote in my column this week:
It’s not the color of your skin, sweetie. It’s the color of your politics. Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the “stunning” “Breakthrough” she’s rooting for comes to pass on January 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled.
Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
***
As I noted in my liveblog, Gwen Ifill failed to disclose her book and financial conflict of interest at the start of the debate. It’s a travesty.
Andy McCarthy (whose terrific column blasting Ifill/PBS’s “Do as I say-ism” is here) adds:
…it was an unmitigated disgrace for her to be presiding — and she is smart enough to know that, so not stepping aside was a culpable act.
Spot on.

Jim Hoft attended the Palin post-debate rally. Great photos.

I thought Sarah was spectacular last night.
How is it that a dumb housewife political neophyte spanked Mr. Senator & Ms. Media with charm, grace and hard-hitting substance?
I have seen her criticised for not answering some of the questions, but I think some of her best moments were when she gave a nice succinct answer and then shifted gears to a topic she wanted.
She has a gift. The MSM tries to paint her as lacking substance. What she has is an ability to connect to real Americans in a way that the libs will never understand.
here from your savior’s website:
Biden at last night’s Vice-Presidential candidates’ debate:
Can I clarify this? This is simply not true about Barack Obama. He did not say sit down with Ahmadinejad.
A regular human being actually using the term ‘effete East Coast liberals’ in a sentence just blows my mind.
I guess he is. What’s that matter? Was George Bush the product of the Texas Republican political machine? Is John McCain as a politician the product of his wife’s money?
What was the lie?
It’s not a personal attack to question whether or not someone is equipped with the mental facilities to be the President of the country that I live in.
I guess you would prefer her to lie. Lie about not wanting to use clean coal.
Lie about McCains votes.
Lie about Obama votes.
Lie about…ect ect
or should she have started asking herself the questions as Biden did?
or should she have kept saying that if so and so was here that they would agree with him?
Did anyone else catch Biden’s statement that he and O want to not only reduce the interest on “troubled” loans, in order to help the “middle-class”, but they also reduce the priniple?
Is this part of the bailout or something B&O want to do? The impact would be statggering.
Indeed, corruption doesn’t matter to Democrats. That’s why William Jefferson gets to keep his seat and his chairmanship, why Nancy Pelosi gets to pay her husband out of her PAC money, why Barney Frank gets to oversee the FSE his boyfriend is an executive for, why Chris Dodd gets sweetheart deals from Countrywide, why Mel Reynolds gets a pardon from Bill Clinton…
It’s appalling, but typical, that Democrats don’t care about the corruption in their own party.
can’t you read? he denied that obama would sit down with ahmadinajad.
but a proven liar and plagiarist if ok with you…what am I saying, its the democratic MO
my favorite part was when Biden said he wanted to help people pay for oil to heat their homes, but of course he doesn’t want us to drill anywhere to lower the price of that oil…
Fundamental difference,Fundamental difference,Fundamental difference, the last 8 years, the last 8 years, the last 8 years, let me say this again, let me say this again, let me say this again, Biden want a cracker? Say it ain’t so, JOE. Good job, Sarah.
Sarah had the chance to bury him when he said that. She got it half right but she should have said:
No Joe! the fundamental difference is that Obama wants to lose in Iraq and McCain wants to win.
It always doubles the impact when you use the other persons words!
How do you know when a Dem is telling a lie? Their mouth is moving….ta da
Hey all – just remember it’s not income re-distribution when you take money from one person and give it to another. It’s called fairness. I heard it last night. So what I want to do is take money from the food stamp budget and give it to those who can give the food stamp recipients jobs (ie – the “rich”). I heard that’s not income re-distribution….it’s fairness.
Or did I miss something?
where’d diggy go? thought he could debate the issues? guess he needs another fax from the DNC…
My point was that no matter how well she did or how poorly Biden did, there is nothing anyone can say that will sway you. You are a simple minded drone for Obama, not a person who can think a position through to it’s conclusion. You hear “Change” and think “yes, that’s exactly what we need!” without any consideration of what needs changing, or how or why or what the downstream effects will be.
Want evidence? You describe Palin’s performance as “televised humiliation” without giving any proof despite the fact that even Democratic strategists and independent focus groups say she performed well. Your PDS is coming through loud and clear.
Your purpose here is to try to get the conservatives riled up by simply disagreeing with everything rather than conceding some points and arguing others. You’re just a verbose lgm.
Good points in that post.
And I wish the MSM and Dems would get called on on the BS statistic of having 3% of the reserves and using 25% of the oil.
The 3% number is from estimates that use 1970’s technology fer craps sake! And it IGNORES oil shale deposits.
Besides… why in the HELL should we but oil and natural gas from scum wads in the middle east, Russia, Venezuela and Mexico when we can drill for and use our own?
Way too many people are eating up this Dem Party line on oil reserves. It’s crap and they know it. They also know a lot of people won’t question it.
I thought Sarah could have gone a little easier on the “down home” style, but otherwise thought she did an excellent job. Joe Biden demonstrated why his fellow democrats gave him less than 3% of the vote when he ran for president. I suspect he was selected as assassination insurance for Obama – nobody would want to see this idiot as president.
What pinned Palin down was her candidate. Every time Biden went “Senator” on her, blowing facts and figures out his rump, she could have gone for the throat.
“Great, Joe – now lets talk about how you got us into the mess we’re in now. It’s not George Bush, Joe, it’s the congress…”
Only one problem: Juan is part of that congress. Biden knew that her hands were tied, and he played his cards well.
Do I think he won? No. I think Palin outshined him again and again. I think her points on energy (a fact-laden response there, for the few imbeciles here who keep stating that her arguments were empty) and energy independence drew serious blood.
Nobody believes that Obiden has ever lifted so much as a finger to make us energy independent. Obama’s claims that he’s for wind power are just that – wind. Where is the trail of legislation that he has authored?
But, again, Palin couldn’t bring that up. People would point out “hey, you’re right… a Senator CAN initiate legislation… why didn’t Juan do that, again? Why aren’t we already drilling?”
She slapped him like a naughty child, to the degree that she could, given the Juanbatross around her neck.
uhh.. that would be LIES by democrats.
I’d rather have someone who messed up some interview than two deceitful liars any day of the week.
Mis-statements my ass….
Di*sh*t,
One of the things I enjoy doing is reading rebuttals of Democrats who comment here. I suspect you must be employed by Michelle Malkin to make an ass of yourself so the rest of us can respond. You certainly don’t engage in any mindful debate of facts, just repeat the same lame talking points over and over. It is amusing to read.
Did you all just selectively ignore the fact that she was very obviously reading almost everything from her cards. Like, almost everything. That’s not presidential, sorry.
And coal deposits!
Repubs need to counter/re-frame it as we use less than 25% of the oil and account for over 27% of the words GDP!

Maybe she should have used a teleprompter like someone else we know.
I agree, anyone who needs to read constantly is not presidential.
OMG! Not presidential! What the hell was she thinking? Wait…shes not running for president, is she? I just get so mixed up on this political race.
sarc off/
Nice work Omu – poor Sarah Palin, her supports say she won because she didn’t blow herself up.
This is getting pretty embarrassing, you folks are trying to support the most unintelligent person in this campaign (which is fine) but you are trying to convince smart people that Palin is up to the task.
Palin did a fantastic job. Go, go, go!
Ifil and “professional” journalists should be shamed for this conflict of interest. Look at what baseball, as a profession, did to Pete Rose for his conflicts of interest.
so being the biggest liar is the most intelligent?
interesting how you libs think…
yeah you’re a legend in your own mind.
laughable. keep telling yourself how smart you are…cause no one else will..
Right on, right4life!
and may I add re: Sarah’s debate performance:
WOOT WOOT!
As I watched this I told my wife that Gov. Palin missed an oppurtunity here. When Biden explained how he had changed the way he considered court appointments qualifications to include taking into consideration an appointees stance on an issue. This is completely unconstitutional, as the authority to do so is not granted to the Senate.
I’d have jumped all over him.
Other than that, I am happy with the Gov.’s performance.
Ilovemycountry,
In my younger days, I voted for Jimmy Carter. I thought he was honest, had good values, and was intelligent. We are still paying for his actions as president. Google Community Reinvestment Act (root cause for the financial mess we are in). Jimmy was famous for the windfall profits tax on the oil companies – the net result is that the oil companies capped many low producing wells, and we became even more dependent on foreign oil. Robert Mugabe is also a legacy of Jimmy Carter.
Four years of this was enough for me. I have been a staunch conservative since. Paraphrasing Winston Churchill: If you are not liberal when young, you have no heart; if you are not conservative when you are older, you have no brain
On the contrary, smart people don’t need to be convinced; they already know she’s up to the task.
So now we’re trying to convince ignorant crapweasels … like you.
And you are more intelligent than her?
Exactly what are your accomplishments to back up your ability to claim intelligence?
Do you even know what “the task” is?
Gov. Palin is a rare gem in the cesspool that is Washington. It is very nice to have someone that is a real person and not just another from a long line of career politicians.
I Love It Too, aj!
Went to a prayer breakfast this morning with about 20 people from my church and of course the main topic was the debate last night. While everyone is voting McCain, primarily because of the abortion issue, the general consensus was that the only reason Sarah Palin did so well is because she didn’t trip and fall on the stage. The bar was set so low that all she had to do was stand upright and try to answer the questions. We’re all voting McCain but we’re not fooling ourselves into thinking that Gov. Palin would have the slightest idea of what to do if something were to happen to McCain.
please she wants to drill in ANWR, mccain doesn’t.
I’m watching the tape now -
My first impression is that Gov. Palin came across as one of “us”, Biden of “me”.
Palin was wonderful because she’s real and she speaks for all of us that are sick and tired of the in-your-face feminists, the lie-to-your-face Washington elite, the we-know-everything Hollywood dingbats and the America-last demonic Dems. America loves you Sarah !
imjustsaying,
Do you seriously believe that if something happened to McCain that Gov. Palin wouldn’t be able to count on the republican party to assist her in naming a new VP and have cabinet meetings to formulate a plan for the country. A president has never been expected to stand alone in time of crisis. He/she has a huge contingent of people and advisors to assist the president in every decision. He/she does have the last word, but after advice of many people.
She would step up and make a very good president, in the image of Ronald Regan. Just my two cents, for what its worth.
The bar set low. As I said yesterday (and Glen Beck said last night), listening to the news on Wednesday you would think the MSM were voting for here because she was so smart, great debater, ect.
McCain needs to get Sarah out into public now. Completely bypass the press. They mean her harm and will do no good and she is so vibrant and forceful when speaking directly to the people. Last night she shined with her positive and forward looking approach to everything. Plus, she wants to drill, and I say drill baby, drill.
Joe Biden said:
So I guess when that 3am call comes for Obama, Joe will be sleeping in the bed with him.
Not really.
1. Here we have Congress going against the Constitution, but hey, why not? Since our culture has accepted that truth is relative, why not apply that to the Constitution as well?
2. A general truth about our politicians: they are more concerned with not losing than they are with being right or winning. The same goes for party followers, especially Republicans.
3. “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties… This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.” ~ John Adams
4. “Bipartisanship” means sacrificing principle for expediency or ulterior motives.
5. McCain isn’t a “fresh” voice: he’s been in Congress for 25+ years.
6. If McCain and Palin are such “mavericks”, then why do they have party affiliations after their names? I wish none of our politicians were members of political parties and voted on principle, not out of what’s best for the Party. But hey, that won’t work because most Americans are too concerned with identity politics, ad hominem attacks, and superfluous things on which the media focuses. The debate last night was about as intelligent as a 5th Grade student council debate (not to insult the 5th Graders).
Ahmadinejad IS NOT the leader of Iran and IS NOT the commander in chief. These distinctions belong to the SUPREME LEADER and ASSEMBLY OF LEADERS.
When Obama says he would negotiate with Iran, he is referring to these individuals.
Also, for my cred on these boards, I am middle class and live (and grew up) in a medium sized town in the mid-west.
Bluesoc,
What about the other lies Biden told?
Those are Joe’s words from last night’s debate. Do you see anything wrong with those statements?
You might want to read up on this here
Please, spare me the BS talking points. only a liberal wacko would be stupid enough to believe this.
oh and you’re probably stupid enough to think there’s any difference:
TEHRAN, Iran (Reuters) — Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Friday for the destruction of Israel, describing it as a “cancerous tumor” in the Middle East.
link
such stupidity has to hurt, you must be in a great deal of pain.
The part I caught was when she stood there for 20 minutes trying to out-liberal Old Joe on the environment.
Sorry Republicans. Thanks but no thanks.
RWR
http://www.rightwingrocker.com
Please explain to me exactly what Cheney has done that you disagree with.
You do know that Obama’s handlers decided he looked so foolish speaking extemporaneously that they decided to take the teleprompter everywhere don’t you? The NY Times had a nice picture of him reading off it to go with their story. As Omu the commentator would say, “That’s not presidential, sorry.”
And I noticed Biden reading his notes so fast after the questions I wondered if Ifill had provided a numbered list for him.
CWinNY, my second props today for you! That quote stuck out like a sore thumb last night and I was going to go look for it today. Thanks for doing the legwork already.
Just out of curiosity, did anyone noticed that Ifill gave Biden more opportunity to make his rebuttal but was quick on the draw to cut Gov. Palin off that she (Gov) didn’t even had the time to think about her own rebuttal. Did anyone keep tracked to the total amount of time each debater had. Bet you that Biden had more than Palin, and that’s considered “Fair and Balance” as far as Ifill is concern.
This is an outright lie. Or Biden is too stupid to understand what happened. Calling all libs, defend this man’s idiotic statement…and he’s supposed to be Mr. Foreign Policy.
The war, the energy meetings, Valerie Plame, torture, warrantless wiretapping, actually asserting in public that he exists on some special plane between the executive and legislative branch… What isn’t there to disagree with?
And Sarah Palin has repeated time and again that she things there have been blunders and mistakes made by this administration, but when it’s time to name specifics, she can’t do it. The duck hunting accident? That might be dumber than Putin’s big head entering American airspace.
It really isn’t.
Not even a little bit.
I promise.
you know diggy whats funny is you wackos live in your own alternative universe. cheney didn’t have anything to do with the plame affair. Richard Armitage, state department employee, aid to colin powell, revealed her name. duhhhhhhhh
I think cheney should release what was they advised him as soon as your messiah reveals what went on it in the meetings between him and Raines, and him and Ayers, don’t you??
wacko.
I wonder why Diggshot feels the need to work so hard to dissuade us of what we know? Most of what he quotes as facts and reason have been debunked, disproved or shown to the fantasies of extremist liberal minds.
To paraphrase, “The liberal doth protest too much, methinks.”
Dumber than thinking a quail is a duck? They were quail-hunting but as usual (including your boring list) facts elude Dems. That list has been done to death, come back when you have something new and interesting.
Oldies but goodies never go out of style, Aloha.
Sarah Palin’s the one that called it the duck-hunting accident.
And yes, what could be more boring than torture and wars and rampant, pervasive, lawlessness?
yeah you wackos believe the same old lies. shows how easily led and uneducated you are. and you think you’re the ’smart’ ones *smirk*
diggy:
couldn’t respond to my points, now could you? typical wacko lib, truth hurts doesn’t it?? *smirk*
The only thing the debate proved about Sarah Palin is that she was able to prepare enough so as to not make a complete fool of herself. What is it with the Republican party – nominating dolts who believe in talking to an imaginary friend known as god, Bush, Quail, Palin. They could not put together a complete articulate sentence if their life depended on it. The idea of a 72 year old man with a history of cancer standing between Palin and the most powerful office int he world scares the hell out of me. She is way, way out of her depth. Why did not McCain get C. Rice as a running mate. Now there is a smart person, although I don’t agree with her politics all that much.
Tranceman,
you sir are an idiot.
