The Boston Globe: In the bag for Obama

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 2, 2008 11:46 AM

The Boston Globe, which refuses to correct its factually-challenged smear of Sarah Palin over rape kits, has an online store. According to its “About Us” page, the store was formed in 1996 “to make The Globe’s extensive photo archives and content available for both people and businesses…In addition to offering the historic images and content of New England’s largest newspaper, the Globe Store also has a growing selection of books and products that celebrate our region’s personalities, sports teams, history, and places.”

Along with Red Sox and Celtics paraphernalia and regional knick-knacks, the Boston Globe store is hawking this lovely product for $46.80 each (big hat tip - No Looking Backwards):

The description:

A powerful image, a powerful message….”carry a conversation” of hope and change. The Obama handbag made by FlashBag is the perfect head turning blend of fashion sense meets common sense. No handbag collection is complete this Fall without the Obama handbag.

Flashbags are wearable art handbags and accessories. They are handmade by women in Burlington, Vermont. Durable Flashbags are made from laminated images strengthened by a sandwich of eight sheets of recycled newsprint. Images cover every panel of the bag inside and out and each panel is embroidered with colorful swoops and swirls that complement the composition of each image.

I can’t seem to find the McCain bag. Can you?

While the newspaper sells lies about Sarah Palin, it peddles overpriced purses hyping Obama.

MSM: They’re in the tank. And they’re in the bag.

Bias? What bias? Conflict of interest? What conflict of interest? Liberal media? What liberal media?

I have been making this argument repeatedly here since become a member of La Malkin’s site, but they (not She Herself, but the commenters here) are unable to accept that simple Truth. At one point, one particularly dimwitted commenter tried to “prove” that, in fact, McSame is somehow the result of DEMOCRATS in New Hampshire cross-voting - as if there were even enough of them, had EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT voted for McSame, to have made a real difference… But then, as we all know, the Democratic voters of New Hampshire simply OVERWHELMED everybody else at the Republican Convention and FORCED McSame on them…

They just can’t seem to accept that THEY chose McSame and he, true to form if you are even reasonably educated on his truth-free backstory as a “maverick,” put himself ahead of the country and chose Palin to grab headlines for a couple of cycles… They are now reaping what they sowed - or, rather, reaping from the field they didn’t fight hard enough to control - and Obama is all but assured victory, maybe even an outright landslide.

The Obama bag is not in ad space on the website, it is sold by the Boston Globe Store. This is a newspaper selling gear that supports one candidate. That hardly makes one feel good about the objectivity of the paper.

But your dismissive attitude will surely engage people in honest debate with you and help them to consider the content of your opinions. Good tactic. It’s also interesting to me that you choose to call people whiners by whining yourself.

Yes, many like to call us nuts. First Tuesday of the month we meet as ‘Take a gun nut to lunch bunch”

    Some more gun nuts:
Thomas Jefferson: “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined or determined to commit crimes. Such laws only make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assassins; they serve to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” (1764 Letter and speech from T. Jefferson quoting with approval an essay by Cesare Beccari)

John Adams: “Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense.” (A defense of the Constitution of the US)

George Washington: “Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people’s liberty teeth (and) keystone… the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable… more than 99% of them [guns] by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference [crime]. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour.” (Address to 1st session of Congress)

George Mason: “To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them.” (3 Elliot, Debates at 380)

“Our Monkey’s Uncle”, as is the fact that they use identical turns of phrase, have the identical political philosophy, and wear the same shirts.

Big selling point. Can’t get more liberal than that (perhaps Bezerkeley).

There is a big health care organization headquartered in Burlington. When the folks would visit, I’d irritate the snot out of them knowing how lib they are. “Are you allowed to own a gun up there? I heard it is very scary to be a conservative there.” And other harmless irritations. Not very nice of me to go into older brother irritating mode.

The reason there is no McCain bad is because McCain is not a youth icon. Neither is Palin. Obama is. The bag is obviously (from it’s aesthetics) aimed at young people. Obama’s image is enduring and iconic (regardless of whether you like him, or detest him so much that you make a big deal out a newspaper selling his image on a bag) and that’s why the Boston Globe is selling it. It’s hardly an endorsement or evidence of bias.

    Sorry, try again.

Those who seem to be sickeningly upset with and giving up on McCain and happen to be flying will find one to suit their needs in the pouch behind the seats on air liners that has a practical if only a one-time use.

And there’s no charge for them - yet.

The young people that support Obama are in colleges. They can make up their own minds and they have. They overwhelmingly support Obama. This is undeniable. That’s why that bag is being marketed to them. D’uh.

I may have to agree with OMU. The Globe is obviously one big editorial and they know their market. Since probably only Obama supporters read their paper, why not try to make up the money they have lost to conservatives who have grown tired of being preached to. Newspapers around the country are failing due to the fact that they give opinion rather than fact. This could be something new, advertising their own merchandise to stay afloat. Good luck Boston!!
