Bottomless bailout: Now, they tell us it’s not enough

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 3, 2008 03:17 PM

They put a gun to our heads. They ate Crap Sandwich 2.0. Washington’s pork-stuffed panic mob forked over $700billion/$850billion/$1 trillion-plus of our money over to the Chicken Littles, who handed it over to Foxy Loxy at the Treasury Department.

And now?

And now, they tell us it’s not enough.

It’s never enough.

A Senate staffer compiled these headlines. Read ‘em and weep:

Rescue Package May Not Fully Thaw Credit Markets

“Therefore, any rally from Fed actions will be short lived.”

Buffett: $700B Bailout may not be big enough

“A continued correction in credit supply, fiscal receipts, investment, employment and consumer balance sheets is inevitable.”

Experts say government’s approach comes up short

Bailout plan could be a disaster

I hear ya. I have young kids as well and hate that they can not grow up in the America I knew. People were honest and you were safe for the most part. You knew your future was in your hands as opportunites abounded. Now, it has become a cesspool of corruption and squabbling minority groups over the scraps our pols throw to us. Sickening.

The ironic thing is my father-in-law dreamed of America when the communists ruled. He hated them. He wanted to flee but had a family to think of. Now, we may be fleeing America for Slovakia (their county). It is not that dire yet, but if something big does not happen in the next few years to change the direction, it will get there. Darn shame too as family members have fought and died for this country. I am gogin to play it by ear, but I have an exit plan in place if things don’t improve.

    No? Was I dreaming again?

I loved the debate last night, but on pretty much every economic issue the debate wasn’t one of difference but degree.

Who can lie bigger to the American people? Who can promise more, More, MORE that we can’t possibly afford?

Universal Healthcare. Lower taxes for everyone except Warren Buffet. “Justice from Corrupt Wall Street.”

We’re all supposed to cheer while they “fix Main Street, the engine of our economy.”

And then Tinkerbell sprinkles magic dust, and we all fly to Neverland…

It doesn’t matter if this is 700, 800, or 1,000 billion pounds of crap. All that matters is that BOTH candidates are for it, and we have to eat it.

We—the U.S. Congress—are the last line of defense for men and women across the nation. We are their last hope. It is time for us to step up to the plate and lead. This is our watch, and we must act right now, for this very moment. I would have liked to see much more included in this package for the people back home in my district, and I give my word to everyone in the 7th District of Maryland that this is only the beginning and that they will not be forgotten.

Here are some people who voted against it and I would be standing hand in hand with.

William Jefferson from LA (obviously the Senate dems couldn’t de-thaw his money for this vote).

    John Conyers, D-MI
Peter Visclosky, D-IN (I just like his name but don’t know who he is)

All three democrat reps from Mississippi, but not the only REpublican, because he voted yea.

Both Dem. reps from New Hampshire(they only have two total, so 100% of New Hampshire)

Heath Shuler, D-NC (whoops, the dems needed this “new” democrats to get elected last time, but they were supposed to stand in line).

Dennis Kucinich (why oh why must I be with him)

Nick Lampson, D-TX (he replaced Tom Delay)

Now I know some of these democrats were “given permission” or something, but either way. I am also sure some of them voted against it because it didn’t go far enough or something, but they voted against it and that is what matters.

Frankly I’m sick of Warren Buffet. This guy is a vulture. When he sounds off on the “need” for death taxes etc, that’s so he can grease his own skids further.

How? Instead of a family farm/business continuing to do business in the wake of a deceased owner(s), survivors have to rustle up cash to pay the estate and/or inheritance taxes. All too often, the only source of instant cash (IRS doesn’t wait - better yet, try rustling up cash on this tight credit market), they end up having to sell the business.

Who buys these estates? Why none other than Buffet & friends, who proceed to strip out the valuable parts, bundle it and sell at a profit.

IOW, the golden goose that is was a thriving small business is redistributed both to fat cats and Uncle Sam, and the family is left with a scrambled egg or two in the near term and the local community has lost yet another pillar of the community, as well as a steady source of revenue from its tax base.

Remember the old saw of 40 acres and a mule? The death tax and unscrupulous local politicians have done more to “disenfranchise” minority land owners and strip them of the fruits of their labors. So where are the Nathans railing against the Davids? Feasting at the table with the wayfarers.

So when Warren speaks, listen up people, for it may be in you that he sees his next exploit. At any rate, if he’s making a profit somewhere off 700 billion of taxpayers’ money, why not make us double down.

As for the billions that he’s set aside for “charity”, that’s just his way of pacifying his personal Ghost of Christmases Past.

    My friends,

I was starting this as a angry diatribe railing against the unfairness of the week’s activities in Congress this week. But the wind has been knocked out of my sails and a heavy heart has set in.

I love this country in a way that many of you do and maybe in some ways a bit differently. I have lived in other countries for years. I studied what made those countries work (or not). My parents raised their children in a highly moral but less than religious home. I am a disabled vet (nothing heroic, wasn’t even in a war zone).

My wife and I are salaried with decent compensation and benefits. We both work in excess of 75 hours a week. We realize we are blessed in many ways and give generously to charities that help those who are less fortunate.

I am watching this so-called bailout and realize that it is going to be harder to give to the truly needy the same as we have given to this point. This levy on our income is going to short those who benefit the most from what we share. Another problem is there are going to be a greater number of people who need.

So how does Washington and the media respond? By trying to pin blame on anyone but themselves. And here is where my frustration begins. We, the American public, have allowed these few selfish individuals and their handlers to lead us around by the nose.

The politicians have created a world in which there are only two sides and try to herd us into one of the two camps. And by smoke and mirrors, sleight-of-hand, and basic dishonesty we have swallowed one side or the other. Now we look at our neighbors wondering if they are Republican or Democrat, not as a fellow American.

Somewhere along the line, we, the American voters got lazy and stupid. We swallow the tripe from Washington hook, line, and sinker. We allow this slime to turn us against our neighbors in favor of their greed and self-interests. Still, we keep voting to retain these charlatans in office, even though we may find them distasteful. Walt Kelly was right - “we have met the enemy and he is us”.

Forgive my sorrow, dear friends. If you pray, say something good for the United States tonight. God Bless America for she is no longer the country I once knew and loved. I truly hope we can reverse this and allow the faint flicker of freedom to once again shine as no other flame can.

While party must no longer keep them safe, remember that Dem’s grip on individual members is much tighter than the Redubs’ — at this point.

THAT IS THE FRUIT OF McCain/Feingold! Its WHOLE purpose was to tie Reps & Senators closely to the party, make them as depndent on the party for election funds as a well-fare recipient is enslaved to the well-fare handout.

The Dems won’t, (for the most part), change their habits. Most Repurbs won’t, either. At 1st. But after a cycle, maybe 2, they will.

The “everyday” letter doesn’t have to be long, it could just be a postcard. Something along the lines: “Reelection comes eventually. Do you like your job?”. As long as it isn’t a form letter-looking deal.

Anyway, after a sleepless night, sitting here at Dad’s bedside thinking and talking to him, that’s what I thought of.

I’m filling out the paperwork to resign my Commission. I’ll turn them in Monday. It can take upto 6months.

I’ll have my idea fleshed out on Dad’s blog by Friday next, I’ve been given 2 weeks downtime. I’ll also bring Dad’s status upto date. I know, promises, etc. My job has had exCONUS a lot these last few weeks. That (almost certainly) won’t happen for the next 2 weeks.

Well, as LDS, we have a World Conf. broadcast today & tomorrow. I’m gone until Monday late afternoon.

PLEASE, people: feedback on my above proposal? I am certain it will work, but I’m also certain with input it can be improved!

So, with taxpayers on the hook for a trillion+ to bail out the Democrats’ failed socialized mortgage program, how will comrade Obama come up with enough money for socialized 6-month-wait-to-a-specialist health care? Will there be astronomical tax increases? Will he cannibalize the military? Or will he do what Britain and Canada did and do both?

I’m not at all surprised. They probably never dreamed it would be so easy to get a trillion.
