Transparency? Show us the earmark sponsors

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 3, 2008 03:03 PM

If I hear one more politician on either side of the aisle brag about the “transparency” in Crap Sandwich 2.0, I am going to punch a hall in my home office wall.

Transparency?

Start by showing us who sponsored each and every earmark and goodie and sweetener shoved into the package in order to pass it.

Go ahead. Show us.

We’re paying for this.

We’re waiting.

Come out, come out wherever you are.

Yes, in the quest to “preserve homeownership” at all costs, it appears the government will be determining the value of homes directly in the marketplace — not only reducing interest rates but also loan principal.

That way there is no incumbency, no huge sums of money for re-election, no taint, compromise and chicanery. In 2 years for true public service and then back home to the district. Gone are all the absentee representatives and homes in DC. Gone are all the influence peddling and lobbying. Gone, I’d imagine, are all the subsidies and corporate welfare because people would be more answerable to their constituents.

One term and out I say. Let’s first begin by purging these fat-cat loving B@stards.

I see opportunity in all this ugliness. We all have something to rally behind. Make it known that starting with the next election (Congressional, Senate) the candidate must make a pledge to vote yes on specific issues or promise to step down at the first contrary vote. My issues would be:

    Term Limits
    Balanced budget
    Line item veto

and my favorite, WE decide wether or not they get a raise based on performance. No more automatic or self-granted raises. Plus, no more pension for life after one term. They should have to earn it the way we in the military do : 20 years minimum before eligibility and even then 50% of your salary at time of retirement. If you get convicted for any, ANY crime, you lose your eligibility for any compensation. (I recognize the dilemma, but with the above, we would not need term limits).

We need to get away from career politicians or this will continue to be the result.

I used to work with a lady who I would go to lunch with occasionally. She was the most uninformed person I had ever met. I never realized there were people amongst us who never read a newspaper, never watched the news, even locally, and didn’t know a thing about anything! This woman was only interested in her little job, her home and her cat. I guess she sleeps pretty well at night, not knowing about all the crises we face. But jeez…shouldn’t there be a test or something before people can vote? I have no idea who she would vote for, or if she even bothers, but I suspect she is typical of those who are taken in by Obamessiah. By the way, I left that job, and she wanted to continue our “friendship”. I just couldn’t handle it. Without our jobs in common, whatever would we talk about?

Sec 502. Provisions related to film and television productions

In an effort to keep film and television productions in the U.S, they would be eligible for a tax incentive program. Under this program, the cost of production of qualifying films would be permitted to be immediately expensed — that is, fully deducted from income for tax purposes — in the year the expenditures occur. This provision also makes permanent other favorable tax treatments for production. Historically Rep. Diane Watson (D-CA) has been a supporter (dating from its creation in the 2004 corporate tax bill). The cost is estimated at $478 million over 10 years.

So we give tax credits to hollywood so they can make their anti-american marxist films here. And it only costs $478 billion over the next 10 years.

    Out FREAKING standing…. ugh!!!

I think it should be challenged for two reasons:

    1) The Constitution is all about the balance of power. If one branch tries to usurp power, the other two can reign it in. This bill gives power to the Secretary of the Treasury (Executive branch) and and tries to claim that the Legislative and Judicial branches have no power to block his unilateral decisions. No balance of power? Unconstitutional.

    2) This failout failed in the House and then was resurrected as a Senate ammendment to a previously passed House bill. Once passed in the Senate, it came back to the House for the final vote. When an ammendment is five times the size of the original bill, and has nothing to do with the original bill, I would say that the ammendment is not an ammendment at all, but rather it’s own entity, merely piggybacking a ride on the back of the original bill. As such, it is unconstitutional that it passed in the Senate first.

Our Legislative and Executive branches have failed us with this bill.
Our last hope is the Judicial branch, and I hope this bill is challenged.
    Who will lead the challenge?
