Ugh: “Why McCain Goes Easy on Fannie and the CRA”

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 3, 2008 01:16 PM

One of the most glaring failures of both John McCain and Sarah Palin in their debates has been their failure to pound Obama/Biden/the Dems on the Fannie/Freddie/Community Reinvestment Act debacles.

Why? Why? Why are they passing up a golden opportunity to expose the disastrous consequences of decades of Democrat social engineering, minority-mau-mau-ing, and crony pseudocapitalism?

Here are your answers.

The reality of McCain’s weak stomach for attacking the Left is a major downer after last night’s feisty performance by Sarah Palin.

It’s one of his fundamental flaws. I’ve pointed it out before.

McCain is, in many ways, Obama’s best friend.

Ugh.

If McCain is unable to call out the Democrats behind this, then he lacks the judgment to be President. Bush wouldn’t defend himself from this crap and look where its gotten him. I’m voting against Obama, but I am disliking McCain more by the day.

There is one thing McCain could do that isn’t complicated, and wouldn’t necessarily be seen as racist.

At the next debate, if the bailout comes up, he could say something like, “Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s management let the taxpayers, banks and homeowners down. This mismanagement, waste and fraud cannot go unpunished. Therefore I am calling for the President to appoint a special prosecutor, and I hope Senator Obama will join me.”

If it’s limited to the management, it’s simple enough. And it puts the homeowners in the politically correct victim category.

Of course, the US Attorney for SDNY is looking into this, and the SEC has sent out notices to preserve documents, but the US Attorney might be replaced by Obama (don’t know if POTUS could shut down SEC investigation).

Once Murkasey appointed a special prosecutor, it would be too public to stop.

That is the best scenario conservatives can look forward to at this point. Unless Barack Obama does something really stupid over the next 5 weeks there is no way John McCain is going to win. McCain is way too “bipartisan” to really take the fight to Obama and Biden. McCain’s last chance to win this year was to come out forcefully against this bailout boondoggle. He didn’t and he is going to lose big.

Hopefully Governor Sarah Palin can avoid the collateral damage of McCain’s pathetically run campaign. She’ll be able to return to Alaska, get four more years of executive experience then run for the top job in 2012.

On a side note, there is going to be a major boost in travel to Alaska in the upcoming years. The state tourism board there couldn’t have bought this much positive coverage of their state in a 100 years.

This was what I’ve thought he’s been doing, especially during the pre-vote debate on the Senate floor. Obama stood up and delivered a speech full of meaningless rhetoric, while McCain said nothing; the commentators at Fox criticized McCain for that silence, but all I could think of was previous events where certain loud-mouthed* Democrats accused McCain of injecting presidential politics into a financial crisis, even to the point of telling him (however indirectly) to “get out of town.”

I may be wrong, but I think McCain knows that if he says anything more – publicly at least, even if in his capacity as a sitting US senator – it wouldn’t accomplish anything except to give the demagogic-Democraps another excuse to accuse him of “…INJECT[ing] PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS INTO SOME OF THE MOST DIFFICULT NEGOTIATIONS…”

Not they’ve ever waited to have an excuse…. :P

I am now persuaded that McCain does in fact not want to win. Mark Steyn has written about it McCain’s defeatism here, so check it out. It’s over. At least there won’t be any moaning and recriminations about if only McCain had done this or done that. There is no way a candidate can win if he doesn’t want to, passionately. McCain doesn’t. End of story.

Now here is the funny bit. McCain goes back to his comfortable life in Washington, to serve out his term and retire, one more nice loser, e.g. Bob Dole. And guess who will get blamed for the loss? That’s right. You. They will say Sarah, but they will mean conservatives.

Come on, folks…use your heads. A couple weeks ago the McCain campaign hit back hard at the NYT’s calling them “in the bag for Obama,” and part of “Obama’s campaign machine.”

The catalyst for that act was likely a strategy meeting in the campaign on how to deal with the outright media bias…which, of course, is no longer covert.

How do you beat the media (who run an active defense for Obama)? Well, you can’t dribble out hard hitting campaign points with a month to go in the process. You have to put a match to the gasoline all at once, and as close to Election Day as possible so that the electorate has a chance to absorb all the “accusations” and “attacks,” but the media doesn’t have a chance to put out the fire or misdirect the issue like they have been doing.

At the same time, the new media strategy on Palin is to pretend she is irrelevant. We’ve seen this in countless bias media outlets (anyone recall the recent flood of “the Palin bounce is over,” and the “Palin is a liability” mantra of late?).

However, Palin will now start firing salvos such as the one today in which she stated for the record that Obama is not qualified to be Commander and Chief. In short, the press pigeon holed themselves by marginalzing Palin…Now she can say whatever she pleases with jagged edges. If she is an effective communicator as she appears…”Gladys in Kansas” will be listenting. The Press will be diddling…and the Democrats will use the only response they have left when McCain starts dropping all the bombs…

Of course, I refer to the “Race Card”…

Independent voters and Blue Dog Demos are going to go running the McCain/Palin ticket when the whining begins in earnest.

    I’m just sayin’… ;)

When Palin was talking about personal responsibility the respondents couldnt turn their knobs far enough! Thats ANGER. And that anger is not going to be harnessed by bipartisanship and though they may have agreed with the personal responsibility, that will not placate the anger. They want to know who is at fault and they want to remove those at fault from office. Right now, they think the parties responsible are John McCain, George Bush, and the Republican party.

Governor Sarah did a good job within the McLame constrictions. It was difficult to watch at the onset, HomeDepot Joe attacking everybody but the real culprits in the economic meltdown and Sarah passing up all of the obvious openings to annihilate the guy, name names, and lay it out directly to a very large, interested audience. Great opportunity missed again!

I suspect that one of the explanations for Ole John Mac’s failure to respond appropriately is that he thinks that he is in the mannerly, refined, Good Ole Boys Senate of the distant past. Where they distinguished themselves from the crass “Lower House” with their effete gentlemanly posturing. John is doing that now with people that don’t play that game and don’t mind saying or doing anything to get and keep the power.

The confusing part beyond that is; “W” is doing the same thing, what’s the deal with that? And the big question is; Where is our “tell it like it is”,most dangerous VP in US history Dickie-poo Chaney? His silence is really baffeling.

Bottom Line: Looks like Mr. Obama gets to be our next President.

Yes! As my Dad was fond of saying:

It isn’t so bad that he crosses the isle, nor that that he sits down. I’d even excuse a little dinner party and a linger-after.

Obama can NOT WIN WITHOUT TELLING LIES.
Obiden is full of deceit, every turn and every nearly utterance.
Joe lied extensively last night and if Sarah knew, Ifillmyownwallet cut her off.
ZERObama has lied so far to the right you’d think he’s right of McCain.
The only reason this hasn’t hurt his base is because they’re in sync with him. That’s how they play the game.cheat, they’re damn familiar with it.
    3)

The campaign believes McCain’s time is better spent talking about taxes and energy and healthcare.

ENERGY and the TRUTH CAN AND WILL WIN THIS FOR MCCAIN/PALIN….IF it gets told.

McCain is so enamored of his bipartisanship. I dont want a maverick I cant trust in the WO, I want a conservative that will put this country back under the Constitution, who will appoint constructionist judges to the SCOTUS, who will stand up to the socialist democrats in Congress. I dont want my president shaking hands with the enemy.
I’m only voting for McCain because Palin is on the ticket.

GWB needs to tell the story this campaign season about what has happened with Frannie and Freddie, government interference in the forcing of (subprime) mortgages to people unable to pay, obstruction of efforts to reform the situation and prevent this disaster. The financial meltdown isn’t that complicated if you call a pig a pig, reparations as reparations. Obama has been part of this Toxic Mortgage Reparations program long before his political career started.
    ==========

The financial meltdown is a stealth Toxic Mortgage Reparations program gone bad.

Obama was fully aware of what was going on in the 90s as an ACORN attorney when he pushed ACORN to get Freddy and Fanny regulations to require bundling undercapitalized toxic reparation mortgages (primarily to minorities — aka blacks) along with regular mortgages.

Freddie and Fanny would buy these mortgages up and resell them to other financial entities. Originally, there were enough good mortgages to hide/buffer the toxic mortgage failures. The Democrat leadership of Freddy & Fanny paid and pushed the Dems in Congress to push the percent of toxic reparation mortgages to the edge, 20% in 2000 all the way up to 28% this year. The Dems in Congress were also paid by the FMs leadership to fight any regulations which might hurt this toxic mortgage reparations program.

Yes — there was some golden parachutes and other CEO abuses along the way. This is a minor side show compared to the size and scope of the toxic mortgage reparations program. Sure the Dems want to point to this as a problem, to distract the public from their stealth reparations program. The GOP don’t want to shed light on what this is all about, because they’ll be accused of being racist…

Yes, there not all under capitalized minority mortgages went bad. However, it also doesn’t appear there was any research to clarify common traits of those who survived the mortgage payments from those who didn’t to detoxify undercapitalized mortgages.

The bailout took this program that was supposed to be ‘hidden’ amongst mortgages and brought it out for the taxpayers to pick up the toxic reparations program as a financial mess it has become.

It should also be noted, the bailout purposely doesn’t fix the toxic mortgage reparations program — instead it seems the toxic mortgage reparations are codified to continue unabated as part of the bailout — hence the statements it’s just the start/downpayment, there’s more to come.

And sure enough, the whimpy GOP bought this toxic reparations program, hook line and sinker for fear of being called racist for going against an ongoing toxic minority reparations program….

Which is another way of saying to the conservative blog world, it’s up to the blogs to ride point and clarify what the Toxic Mortgage Reparations program is all about in the next few weeks…

If the bloggers can get any traction via talk shows, the silent majority will quickly pick this up and understand what is going on for what it is — a Democrat scam that is leaving them on the hook for billions in current and future reparation obligations… The PRESSSSident, Dems and Obama will have to respond at some point, which will only help clarify the issue.

The choice is simple, continue to muddle around the edges of the Toxic Mortgage Reparation Program, or start pushing the envelope of truth so that the toxic reparations issue can be discussed in open by the politicians to clarify who is on one side or the other of this issue. A cogent response to reparations is not likely to be an option on Obama’s teleprompter….

I can only think of one possibility as to why McCain is not attacking the Dems for the current economic situation. It is he wants to be perceived as someone who can work on both sides of the aisle and if you are pointing the finger of blame it is difficult get those very people to want to help with a solution. Prime example, Pelosi’s statement blaming Republicans was used to explain why the first vote failed. So, like it or not I tend to agree that McCain/Palin need to stay above the fray on this one. But that does not mean the rank and file members can’t participate in the mud slinging, and this is a fight we could win easily with the facts and video on our side.

Hard to believe the ‘lets wait till 2012′ attitude on this forum. As if there will be anything left to save by 2012. Everything that has been fought hard – amnesty being the foremost – will be not even issues then. It would have long been completed and part of the social fabric along with the completion of mortgage ‘reparations’. The Dem party will have 20+ million new voters by then. There will be no swing states then – at most GOP might get Alaska and ND.

Agreed McCain is not gonna happen. But there are 550 house races and 20+ senate races. If we work toward getting a solid firewall to bog down the president, we might have a chance in 2012.
