This may or may not be off-topic, but I notice that in all the obituaries and tributes, the MSM have been silent on one of Newman's greatest screen roles, Ari Ben Canaan in "Exodus." This movie and Newman's character helped swing a significant measure of American public opinion behind Israel after eight years of the Eisenhower administration's studied arm's length treatment. When the Six Day War made real the heroism of the fictional Ben Canaan, public opinion was confirmed despite the media's phony "evenhandedness."

I fell in love with movies for the first time watching "Cool Hand Luke" in the middle of the night by myself. I was in Junior High, and got lost in the story and moved. Paul Newman was amazing, as he later was in movies like "The Verdict" "Color of Money", and "Nobody's Fool". He was one of my favorite actors ever. In real life he fought for Civil Rights and raised hundreds of millions for charity. We lost a great one.

One of the things I love about liberals is how they always call themselves independents or moderates or progressives - anything but admitting that they are in fact liberals. It's like The Republic of North Korea.

With regards to Paul Newman, it's nice to see that there was at least one subject where he stepped back from the Kool-Aid.

There is a reason for this. In France almost all civil society groups, including enviro ones, receive most if not all their funding from the government. They would never dare to bite the hand that feeds them. Socialists certainly know what they are doing when they make groups dependent on government.

As I said in my very first post, if you want Nucs, you just keep them in your own back yard, don’t hire a bunch of illegal alien truck drivers to tranport the waste all over the U.S.
AND suffer any consequences, with out crying to the Feds for a “Nuclear Bailout”.

Ok, so your rant is what exactly?

Aren't people starving and food shortages are driving up prices as a result of the coveted 'alternative energy' source. The moron salivates over an energy panacea that results in the death of millions. This is why America needs to take its learning institutions back; by force in my estimation.

It is clear that "Pseudo- Conservatives", are not looking to debate the issue here, or anywhere really.
I do not need to defend my willingness to support alternative energy sources, here. There are far more conscientious, sincere, & informed, folks to discuss this with.

The inability of "Pseudo-Conservatives" to participate in discourse about alternative sources of energy, along with your efforts to bully opposing viewpoints, merely betrays your ignorance.
Kind of reminds me of the movie, "Idiocracy".
Just go back to the "Monster Truck" rally, & high five your peeps that fly the U.S. flags on their Hummers, & claim they support the troops while disproportionately financing terrorist nations.

What is biggest fear of nuclear power? Is it justified?

Good question, the illogical fear of nuclear power is something I dealt with off and on during my 30 years at the nuke plant. Some people, I believe, still think the plant can blow up like a nuclear bomb…. they can’t get past the word, “nuclear”. There is also an inability to logically consider the various risks one faces in their everyday life. A good example would be their drive to work. They do it most every day and consider the risk worth the benefit of getting to work. The risk to the average person from nuclear power and/or nuclear waste is extremely small, and the benefits of clean available power that does not add to the “climate change” problem are great. I knew I was safer at the plant than during my drive to work, and never felt in any danger from the nuclear portion of the plant during my 30 years there. There were the normal hazards of any large industrial plant such as high pressure steam, rotating machinery, noise and such, but the nuclear part of the plant was controlled, operated and maintained in a way that maximized safety to both plant employees and the public. We learned a lot from Three Mile Island, and nuclear power is much safer than it was back then.

Another possibility is that some people do not want the large quantities of clean energy nuclear can provide because their agenda of forcing Americans to change their “wasteful” lifestyle will be harder to implement.

My house is about 5 miles from the plant, and if it were announced today that another two units are going to be built at the existing site it would be cause for celebration, not fear. The spent fuel should be transferred to the Yucca Mountain site but is being held up for political, not technological, reasons. Transporting nuclear fuel by truck or train in the transport containers is far safer than the various stuff that gets transported through communities every day, but again, irrational fears are holding up the ability to remove spend fuel from some 60 or so sites across the country and putting in a much safer central location that billions of dollars have been spent preparing.

New nuke plants are being built around the world and will likely be built here at some point in the future. There should IMO be an “emergency” plan to build new nuclear plants now……..but, we can’t even drill for oil.
