Choking on Crap Sandwich 2.0: Bush says “We don’t want to rush” (!!!!)

I am going to break 8.0 on the LMAO Richter Scale.
President Bush just gave a brief statement on the Dow and had the nerve to say this:
As global markets plunged, President Bush on Monday said “it’s going to take awhile” for the government’s $700 billion financial rescue plan to bolster the troubled U.S. economy.
Bush said the purpose of the package was to unlock the nation’s credit freeze “to get money moving again.” But, he added: “We don’t want to rush into the situation and have the program not be effective.”

That was exactly the message of bailout opponents on the left and right who didn’t want to be bullied by Bush’s wrong-headed Treasury Secretary.
That was exactly the message of fiscal conservatives who wanted to slow the bailout train down, take time for hearings, consider all alternatives, and listen to those with experience around the world watching past massive, bank bailouts fail so that whatever the government adopted would be effective.
If the Dow were up, Bush and the bipartisan bailout mob would be happy to crow and take all the credit for it.
Now, they tell us they DON’T WANT TO RUSH after putting a gun to the head of American taxpayers to fork over $700billion/$850billion/$1 trillion-plus for a bailout that WON’T BE ENOUGH.
How’s that Crap Sandwich tasting now, people?

Every single person in washington today should be fired and never allowed to run for any office ever again. I am begining to think rebuilding washington DC after a nuke strike might save us money.

Imagine if any of the “Big Businesses” that so many illogically hate operated like this. At least with Big Business we would have seen a business plan and strategy for how the money would be spent.
This is how our government malfunctions. $850B of pork laden bailout and now they don’t know what to do with it.
This should have been determined before they came up with the figure. Who, other than our government, operates this way? I cannot get a loan without first explaining how the money would be spent. It should be no different for Congress. This is just shameful.
No sooner was it out of our pockets then they were already planning on how to get more. Given Paulson’s track record, no one should be surprised. Were he a CEO, he would have been gone long ago.
Hopefully the American voters will realize what a farce this was and vote accordingly in November.

Dow down 549 and sliding. California needs a 7 billion dollar loan to stay in business. Florida can’t borrow money for capitol projects. Property values are falling. The tax base is shrinking. So what happens when there is no money to pay police and firemans salaries?

The whole point of the rush to get the bailout through was to keep it bipartisan. If it was just a few days before the election, everyone would know it’s the first down payment on the Obama Administration’s drive for ’social justice.’
With all of the latitude built into the bill, who do you really think is going to get the money under Obama? There are a lot of oppressed African-American folks out there on the brink of losing their homes.
Just seems fair to move that money to help out the ‘decendants of slaves,’ doesn’t it? Even if they did just come from Kenya a generation ago.

In November, I’m going to locate each incumbent on the ballot (minus the ones that didn’t vote for the crap sandwich) and vote for the challenger. This is completely ridiculous.
Well, it’s pretty obvious that the financial/industrial movers and shakers don’t think this bailout is going to work. . .and that’s being reflected in the markets today.
Now, I have a sneaking suspicion those folks know quite a bit more about the economy than our elected senators/representatives do.

McCain missed a golden opportunity here. Had he sided with the American people, fiscal conservatism, etc., he could pulled the rug from underneath Obama on the economy. Just chalk this up to another opportunity missed.

My God Bush is getting bad. It sometimes makes me wonder if it wouldn’t have been better for our (conservatives, that is) long term prospects if Gore or Kerry would have won.

I hate to say it but this would be a perfect time for a major terrorist attack on the United States. The situation today is playing out like a brilliant strategic move:
Get one half of the country hopping mad at the other half so they are busy fighting each other, then throw in a few million illegal immigrants to add to the confusion, then pull the rug out of the financial markets to generate more chaos, get the country’s executive and legislative branches so scared that they will make incredibly stupid decisions without thinking them through, make sure that most of the country’s military forces are spread out all over the world and thus not available for immediate defense of the homeland, then ATTACK.

The bailout is effectively a blank check all set for Obama to decide what to do with the money. Deep cramdowns plus government grants to erase or greatly reduce minority homeowners’ mortgages would seem to be a sensible place for him to start, given his world view.

Pelosi cheered and crowed last week when the bailout passed. If the DOW continues to tank she’ll be putting the blame totally on Bush and the Republicans by weeks end…
The bailout debacle once again illustrates the drastic disconnect between politicians and reality. From the beginning, the politicians seemed more obsessed with the bailout than the “market” did. But investors are not as dumb as politicians think they are. Investors know a turkey when they see it. To the extent even concept of a bailout was a good idea, certainly any fool could see that the bailout we actually got — loaded with almost comical earmarks and other payola — was a turkey from Hell.
Moreover, investors are generally wary of dim-witted politicians trying to micro-manage the economy in the first place, and the nausiating spectacle of Pelosi, Dodd, Frank, etc. contratulating each other for their great “leadership” in the bailout efforts could only have further turned investors off to the whole idea.
How about another “contract with America”. The conservatives running for congress should run on a platform of eliminating unconstitutional depts. like education, HUD, and DOE.
The precursor of “Hope and Change” appearing in your hometown real soon. The Obama equivalent of the Mahdi Army dressed in camo pants and blue shirts will inforce the redistribution of th 700 Billion…… or is it 850?
I hate to sound like a lib, but our only hope is there is some flaw in this legislation that the Supreme Court can shoot down.
I spent a lot of time and energy defending this president to all the libs in my circle of friends and family. I am bitterly disappointed in his actions these past four years. He appealed to evangelicals to help him out and we fell for his sincerity act. He blew a huge opportunity in 2004. He had the right congress and the right court and he did nothing with it. This last act feels like he force fed us something we did not want. He is as bad as Nancy Pelosi. I am mourning the man I once respected.

CNBC had an interview with Under Secretary of the Treasury (Tony Ryan, I think it was) and he said, loosely translated.
We don’t know what to do, we don’t know how to do it. It is a very complex problem. We are trying to hire smart guys from Wall Street who will tell us what to do. We are working very hard, and everything will be transparent.
Basically, we have no clue.
Even the anchors, and commentators were annoyed that he wasn’t answering any questions.
Not me. I am ticked off. I was watching some of his 2000 speeches, and he failed us miserably.

Instead of rushing into worsen this debacle, how about some foresight and truth? How about doing the hard work of trying to understand what happened, what lead to this, and resolving the problem without wasting taxpayer money? Unfortunately, that wouldn’t suit the Dems who aren’t interested in finding answers or taking responsibility for the “crisis.”

Since the Republican Party has abandoned most (more like all) conservative principles, I think it’s time for a new party. I too, am upset and frustrated with the way the Bush Administration has handled this fiasco and many other things.
The new party needs a younger, more energetic leader, with a clear past and STONG FISCAL CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES! I’m glad McCain didn’t choose Bobby Jindal as his running mate. In 4 years he’ll have accomplished much more and be better equipped for a run at the Presidency (although Obama has lowered the bar in regard to experience).
I will not register as a Republican as they are ‘no longer who they once were, or what they could be’ to paraphrase Zerobama. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. We have been sold out. Enough is enough!

In times past, this debacle would have had angry citizens storming the seats of government, and tossing their elected representatives out on their ears.
The government has willfully enacted legislation that is destroying the future financial well-being of a huge portion of its constituency, for no appreciable gain. They have acted without voter input, ignoring the clear reports that the public did not support this legislation.
I know it’s knee-jerk, but I can’t help thinking there should be a general recall of ALL (regardless of party) sitting Senators and Representatives who voted in favor of this monstrosity.
Then, at least, they wouldn’t be able to meet quorum requirements to vote in any additional foolishness for a little while.
And when I say that, I mean Obama and McCain too. Both of them along with the rest. Then they can both put out stupid TV ads about how the other was impeached and removed from office. Idiots.

Well, Paulson CAN’T just rush in and spend all that money on the first day! It will take LOTS of time to cherry pick and set up his friends to maximize their benefit from the MOAB.
