It’s pronounced “Cash Carry”
You have to laugh, but because it doesn’t hurt as much as banging your head on the wall again.
The name of Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson’s former Goldman Sachs buddy now in charge of buying up billions and billions and trillions of toxic assets to bail out the banking industry:
Pronounced “Cash Carry.”
Rhymes with: Trash ferry.
Kashkari.
Add it to the list of aptronyms.

FYI…The Treasury Dept’s official announcement:
Neel Kashkari
Assistant Secretary for International Economics and DevelopmentNeel Kashkari was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Economics and Development on July 9, 2008. He was nominated by President Bush on November 15, 2007 and confirmed by the Senate on June 27, 2008. Mr. Kashkari joined the Treasury Department in July 2006 as Senior Advisor to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr. In that role, he was responsible for developing the President’s Twenty in Ten energy security plan, enhancing Treasury’s engagement with India, particularly in the area of infrastructure development, and developing and executing the Department’s response to the housing crisis, including the formation of the HOPE NOW Alliance, the development of the subprime fast-track loan modification plan, and Treasury’s initiative to kick-start a covered bond market in the United States.
Prior to joining the Treasury Department, Mr. Kashkari was a Vice President at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in San Francisco, where he led Goldman’s IT Security Investment Banking practice, advising public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions and financial transactions. And of course, the value of an individual is not in his ideas, his successes, his record, but in his name.
Could you please post something more trivial ?
I thought “Cash Carry” meant that you had to pay cash in order to carry off your purchase…
i.e., no credit. Especially not sub-prime credit.
Neel … i.e. what Paulson did before Pelosi. And you though A-rod skedoinking Madonna was disgusting? That’s about as low as it gets.
Hey Hank, what’s it like to go through life with no pride?

I thought it was funny
Oh, and just to get you back to the real world:
Did you hear that swoosh sound coming from Election Projection last week? No, it wasn’t the mortgage crisis. That noise was the bottom falling out for John McCain. The GOP nominee trailed Barack Obama by just 8 electoral votes in last week’s update. During the week however, state after state shed its redness in favor of a more azure shade. On Tuesday, Florida and Nevada switched from red to blue. On Wednesday, Virginia slid into Obama’s column, followed by Ohio on Thursday and North Carolina on Friday. And Missouri rounds out McCain’s collapse by bolting this morning.
All in all, McCain lost a projected six states this week worth a staggering 91 electoral votes. His EV deficit ballooned from eight to 180 as he now trails Obama 364-174.
If you can’t stand a light-hearted post every now and then, you really don’t belong here.
I about went through the roof when I read that Paulson got down on one knee before Pelosi!
President Bush, WAKE UP!
Paulson is a Trojan Horse!
Kinda like Thomas Crapper.
Gribble, go start your own blog.

I promise I will never go to your blog to make fun of it. You can rest assured, Dribble.

gribble-dribble for a blog name?
My sentiments exactly, Mrs Malkin.
I don’t think it’s trivial to find out that the Sec. of Treasury, a former Goldman Sachs millionaire and Exec, is giving a coveted powerful position to one of his former underlings, also a Goldman Sachs millionaire and Exec.
I’m curious which 10 asset management companies will get the business and what their ties to Goldman Sachs will be.
I actually find more humor in his first name — Neel.
Kind of brings a visual, dontcha think?
Gribble-scribble?
Well, given the hand in pocket cabal that is our financial advisory group… is this so surprising? We’re screwed 08.
gribble on the Web:
A gribble is any of about 56 species of marine isopod from the family Limnoriidae. They are mostly pale white and small (1-4 mm long) crustaceans …
Any of various wood-boring marine crustaceans of the genus Limnoria, especially Limnoria lignorum, which cause damage to underwater wooden structures.
Why the heck would you name yourself after a marine worm?
Agreed!
Which is exactly why I think the individual’s name is soooo apt.
oh the ironies!
I am appalled that the only people Paulson seems to know are from Goldman Sachs. Doesn’t anyone care that $6 billion from Warren Buffet has just been infused into Goldman Sachs so they can go in and purchase the banks AFTER the US taxpayers clean up their balance sheets?
Isn’t that enough of a conflict of interest that anyone who has passed by Goldman Sachs should be disqualified from offering “advice” or having any role?
Goldwater Knight …
Good to know but it made me think of 2 things … those furry creatures in the original Star Trek series that infested the ship … and the furry little Gremlin creatures that those kids dealt with in a couple of later movies …
Great Question to ask Barack during tomorrow’s debate.
Do voters have the guts to throw the bums out?
OR, are voters as stupid as political strategists think they are?
How many times can voters be fooled?
FOR EXAMPLE:
Today Rep. Shays spoke in the Oversight Committee hearing about the Bankruptcy of Lehman Bros. Shays acts clueless about what happened in the markets. (He voted yes on the “Bailout” that he also had no clue if it will work.)
Here is Shays closing statement, “To those of us on the outside it seems a little screwed up.”
ON THE OUTSIDE???
• Shays has a MBA & has been in Congress for many years. He sits on the Financial Services Committee, Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises & Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity.
Are voters gutless, or stupid, or both? I guess we’ll see.
He should have appointed Dave Ramsey.
In all seriousness, Goldman Sachs has been run by Democratic Socialist Communists for quite some time. Take a look at Jon Corzine. As Chairman and co-CEO of Goldman Sachs, he was involved in the rescue package for Long Term Capital Management in 1998.
As U.S. Senator, he voted against the confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts.
As NJ Governor, he appointed his own replacement to the US Senate…who then voted against the confirmation of Justice Samuel Alito.
My mother-in-law gets Time magazine, and in a recent (within the last 2-6 weeks) issue, there was a picture of Obama with some of his advisors (people who would be likely cabinet members)…and Jon Corzine was seated at the table with Obama. Oh, and everyone had a name card with the
mark of the beastObama logo above their name.Well, at least his name wasn’t Slashburn.
Are you really Rusty Shackleford?
Anyway relax buddy.
I’d say your posts on just about anything save her the trouble.

Since this is a wasted thread anyway, condolences on the Cubbies. The streak continues.
So, how many times have you written “crap sandwich” today?
And now, you’re taking a break from that to…make fun of people’s names.
It’s like a trip back to the first grade around here. Or earlier. I think we had already learned not to mock people’s names by first grade.
It’s no wonder Conservatives are getting their asses handed to them. A once-thoughtful, reasoned ideology has degenerated into the most juvenile bikering, insulting and name-calling imaginable.
This sort of “content” is NOT helpful. It is corrosive, destroying the movement from within while drawing nothing but scorn and disgust from without.
Does anyone know if there are any conservative sites that offer actual discussion? That tackle issues using detailed analysis and an adherence to guiding principle? That have some sort of intellectual depth?
I’ll be looking. If this sort of commentary is the best Conservatism now has to offer, the movement deserves the ongoing thrashing it is currently experiencing.
Gee, I guess he didn’t do a very good job on that initiative he was given way back in 2006. So Paulson says, “Hey lets give you an even bigger job since you failed at the last one.”
Did Mr. CashCarry study under Bill Ayers? And lastly:
At least Paulson didn’t choose his buddy Jim Johnson.
Well, I think he kind of did — with a guy named Neel.

You made my day. After seeing those 2 VA polls (and dreading the new FOXNews/Rasmussen polls tonight) I needed to see that map. I can’t fathom Axelrod’s boy taking VA and NC. It seems unreal to me.

Well. It wasn’t until you posted.

I’m just not sure that what we need is a 35 year-old pal of Hank Paulson’s with no mortgage banking experience. Has anyone seen his hands and feet? Do they have strings? How about a large opening on his backside for Paulson’s hand?
Related, Gribble provides no sources for his “blue-sky” approach to electoral maps. Maybe details like that are just to trivial to discuss.
Since you are not a fan of Humor, read this 6 degrees and go back to your BDS and blame it on Bush, you’ll feel better.
Bruce Springsteen performs at Michigan rally for Obama.
Is this the only way Obama can get a decent-sized crowd?
I dunno, nyc123me—I wouldn’t pay to see Springsteen.
Oh, I plan to spend a great deal of time here. It’s an excellent example of how NOT to behave when you hope to bring about change.
Have you ever visited the Daily Kos? Or the Democratic Underground? You will find what I thought was unmatched vileness being puked forth on an hourly basis at such sites. For quite a while – Bush’s first midterm, and his second Presidential election – this sort of behavior demonstrably worked in favor of Republicans. Exit polling showed that significant numbers of voters were repelled by such behavior, and switched sides to support the party which had at least demonstrated a modicum of civility.
Those days, apparently, are gone. And Conservatives are now engaged in a pointless battle to outdo the taunts and jeers vomited by their opponents, instead of hanging on to the high moral ground they once held.
If the sort of behavior seen here is prevalent, we deserve to be bitch slapped, good and hard. Repeatedly.
It looks like that’s going to happen in less than a month.
And what will you have to fall back on when that happens? Your bitterness? Your hatred? Your juvenile, thoughtless insults? I’d rather find succor in having been right, and righteous. It’s hard to take pride in how many times you can say “crap sandwich” in a day, or in making fun of how someone’s name is pronounced.
Living in NJ… I’m getting sick of people from Goldman sachs…
Corzine
Paulson
Cash&Kari
Should we now be the United States of Goldman Sachs now????
How’s that translate in Spanish?
You’ll notice that I amended my remarks to move the goalpost back to kindergarten.
Don’t believe these polls!
Remember during the Dem primary when Obama was said to be up by over 10 points? Only to lose. Clinton came in first, Obama second.
Reuters/Zogby poll had Obama at 42, Clinton at 29. The rest was divided up among the others.
The other guy from NJ also does Obama fund raisers…Jon Bon Jovi… (real name John Bongiovi).
What is it about Obama again that Springsteen and Bongiovi like??? I dunt git it.
I don’t think they get it either. Anything beyond a (D) in front a candidate’s name is too complex for them.
Actually, I’ve been a Bush supporter for the last two terms, and despise the thought that this election is rapidly sliding into what will likely turn out to be a Socialist toilet, taking the country along with it.
It isn’t at all helpful, though, to engage in juvenile name calling. It empowers your opposition, weakens your own position, and quite frankly it is simply wrong.
This is the sort of behavior I would expect from the DU or the DK kiddies – NOT from conservative adults. I see no possible gain to be had from such remarks; and I see much harm that can come from them.
Perhaps the only remaining question is: do they mirror the intellectual level around here? Or do they set it?
(I’m a little late to this….)
With a name like gribble, one shouldn’t poke at this crowd for making fun of names.
To the other ’serious’ folks,
“Lighten up, Francis…”
sure it’s not a nom de plum for Henry Paulson.
I would almost swear that would be a made up name..
Kashkari..
Didn’t he use to work as an intern at the firm ‘Dewy, Nailem and Howe?’
It’s called “Levity”, 6 Degrees. Try it, it does the body good.

Definitely funny…but then Michelle, you were offended by Keith Olbermann’s joke on Palin-Russia during NFL game.
I am not against your joke on ‘Cash Carry’…but I felt its little hypocritial to have complained against the minor Palin-Russia joke and then joke on someone else.
For me NFL joke is not PDS, its just a joke. Same as this one. I will not call this *DS.
gribble tribble
Sorry to be off topic a bit, but I keep hearing on Talk Radio that the Dems need to be, at a minimum, 10 to 15 points ahead in the polls to win.
Can someone explain to me why that is?
Is it that conservative are just to busy to participate in polls and only show they’re support on election day? or is the above really even a true statement?
I wonder what historic polls showed prior to previous elections.
Not the same thing, and not even close. Palin is running for the VP slot, and should get some respect once in a while (she hasn’t gotten any yet from the MSM). I never hear anyone laughing about Obama’s dumbo ears, or Biden’s plugs on national TV, do you?
And it’s not minor, it’s ALL THE TIME. There’s a snarky comment every day about Palin in one way or another. Enough is enough. We get it, the MSM hates Palin.
I’m with you wighttrasch. Springsteen is way overrated, as is obama.
Yes, and yes. Well done gribble.
Yes it is trivial, maybe a little mean. But after the week we have had and the four years we will have we deserve it. Oh Lord hold on tight cowboys, this bull is a BEAR.
But all in all I would like to see bankers whose banks MADE money in this mess put in charge and there are indeed those bankers. They don’t bother referring to themselves as Masters Of the Universe. They are the ones who are not in front of the Senate Banking Committee–AKA Covering Chris Dodd and Friends Committee.

Are you talking about NH?
The aggregate polls had it closer to the actual result than Zogby. But okay. Polls can get it wrong, and did there.
Now you just have to hope they get it wrong in each of:
VA
NC
CO
FL
NV
OH
because Obama is leading in every single one of those and he only needs to win one to get to 269, as it stands now.
Thank You, Michelle
The chuckle was appreciated.
O/T but still funny.
Hey Michelle
Can you abort Independent voter for being too serious on this light-hearted thread?
Just this time please please!
His first name should be STEAL. $teal Ka$hkari. That would be totally appropriate.
Yes, it was NH. And yes, history of polling hasn’t been all that great.
And let’s not forget the exit polls during the 2004 election that most of the MSM claimed Kerry was ahead, until reality sank in.
All in all, most people make their final decision in the voting booth when reality sinks in. Do you vote for some young, inexperienced guy with no executive experience and a shady past? Or do you stick with someone you’ve seen in public service for the past few decades?
4. Robert Rubin – Clinton Treasury Secretary
Also a former ‘Co-Chairman’ of Goldman Sachs
I think the names of Paulson’s other banking pals are:

Sorry familyman if I do not find this “Bailout” scam particularly funny, or “lighthearted”.
Must be missing the “what the heck” gene you’ve been blessed with.
But REALLY, are you running to “mommy” to tell me to “stop it”, being so serious, that is?
REALLY, “familygirlyman”?
Mommy help help
Now your getting the idea.
dribble sez:
LOL, you sound like the lenders there!
I’m a conservative Republican. I plan for the worst and expect the best.
Well, since I have your attention, are you a familygirlyMAN OR a familygirlyMOUSE?
Will you join the “throw the bums out” Revolution, based on their “Bailout” votes, regardless of their party affiliation?
OR do you vote for Congressional RINO’s regardless of what they do,or don’t do, because you think the R is just so cutsey, wootsey? – Thus, perpetuating the politics of partisan distraction, that has led us to this point.
Conservatives know how to take care of themselves. We have no need to worry. Lock and load.
