Maybe McCain does want to win: He finally attacks Obama on Fannie/Freddie
Last week, the McCain campaign said it would be too complicated and politically incorrect to blast Obama for his Fannie/Freddie complicity.
They didn’t want to go there.
Looks like common sense mugged the Maverick.
Better late, than never — via Ed Morrissey, here’s McCain’s prepared text for an event later today:
Our current economic crisis is a good case in point. What was his actual record in the years before the great economic crisis of our lifetimes?
This crisis started in our housing market in the form of subprime loans that were pushed on people who could not afford them. Bad mortgages were being backed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and it was only a matter of time before a contagion of unsustainable debt began to spread. This corruption was encouraged by Democrats in Congress, and abetted by Senator Obama.
Senator Obama has accused me of opposing regulation to avert this crisis. I guess he believes if a lie is big enough and repeated often enough it will be believed. But the truth is I was the one who called at the time for tighter restrictions on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that could have helped prevent this crisis from happening in the first place.
Senator Obama was silent on the regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and his Democratic allies in Congress opposed every effort to rein them in. As recently as September of last year he said that subprime loans had been, quote, “a good idea.” Well, Senator Obama, that “good idea” has now plunged this country into the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
To hear him talk now, you’d think he’d always opposed the dangerous practices at these institutions. But there is absolutely nothing in his record to suggest he did. He was surely familiar with the people who were creating this problem. The executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have advised him, and he has taken their money for his campaign. He has received more money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac than any other senator in history, with the exception of the chairman of the committee overseeing them.
Did he ever talk to the executives at Fannie and Freddie about these reckless loans? Did he ever discuss with them the stronger oversight I proposed? If Senator Obama is such a champion of financial regulation, why didn’t he support these regulations that could have prevented this crisis in the first place? He won’t tell you, but you deserve an answer.
Don’t go wobbly now, McCain.
Take your own advice: Stand up and fight.

He needs to stop dancing around, with comments like, “I guess if he tells a lie long enough, he thinks you’ll believe it”.
Nobody expects fancy verbiage from the straight-talker.
He should just say, “That comment by Barack Obama is a lie, and he knows it’s a lie”.
You know, like the Obama campaign keeps saying to McCain!!!
I am weary from empty hope in McCain that he will figure out how to stand up and throw these punches.
Let Sarah Barracuda take care of this. The less we see from McCain, the better, in my frank (albeit unpopular) opinion.
Ok McCain, but if spending is too high, why the hell did you just sign $105billion in earmarks???
lgm said: NOTHING
That SOP for them. Why are you watching CNN?
dang … that’s the second time today my post has shown up twice … are they that good? …
… NOT …
I did manage to catch something about how to have a “green wedding”, though…..
I totally agree, desertlover. I will go with the PUMA quote: NObama. NOway. NOvember.
Some sat out the vote in 2006 and look what that got us. I would never not vote nor vote for a 3rd party. Screw that.
McCain-Palin needs to win so she has a better chance at beating Hillary in 2012.
Dammit, now they went to commercial!
Would they be so quick to go away from the Messiah if he were speaking?
Bring back the old man with the giant whooping stick!
‘my friends’.. heh, can’t help himself. Juan has a lot to answer for.
You’ll have to forgive him. The liberal talking points haven’t yet been released so he’s left with only the standard redirection tactics. When he’s given his lines he’ll be back repeating them over and over in the hopes of making them true by repetition.
FOX news online has the live feed
I’ watching CNN live streaming on web – no interruptions at all.
Oh, that explains why Rush wasn’t on today… he must be busy coaching McCain. OK, I like this… can’t wait to see how CNN attempts to spin this!
Oh I didn’t know that.. Obama will FINE individuals for not having the health plan he dictates.
My gosh, he’s on fire! Get Greg Jarrett off my screen, Fox News. Good, it’s on CSPAN…did any of the other cabler’s carry the first part. The audience is fired up…we can win this if he and Sarah keep this up. The MSM will go after him worse than ever, but this is worth it.
He just DID say that Obama lied about his (McCain’s) record on Fannie and Freddie.
Dammit, McCain’s on a role and they’ve not gone back!
Is it online anywhere yet? I call “first”! LOL I’m as giddy as a schoolboy with a firsttime crush! More “Obama beating” please!
BTW-I was watching the stock market go back up to the 450 range in real-time on CNN, that’s why I was on there.

Me neither … I have never failed to vote even when I was in the jungles of Viet Nam … it irks me no end when I hear people talking about not voting … it is a very precious right that many of us here have fought to defend … but that fact seems to have escaped many in this country …
Sure, monkey. We know you love Campbell Brown.
A desperate last gasp of a dying campaign that has nothing left to offer but false attacks. Just a guess, it would mirror the Obama campaign talking points nicely.
McCain has to know that the only chance he’ll have to attack Barry unfiltered is during a debate. The MSM will NEVER air the clips of him shedding light on truth at a “campaign appearance.”
They’ll be too busy worshiping at the trough…er…altar of His Messiahship to waste time on “earthly” matters.
Over now. That was better. Looks like his balls came out from cowering. Appeasement and reaching across the aisle doesn’t work with extremists Johnny, not with muslim extremists, and not with liberal extremists.
Fight or flight. About time you stopped flapping your wings.
tyrfing, I assume you mean the CNN spin…
brooklyn red
Rush is attending the swearing in of one of his relatives to one of the courts in Missouri today … not sure if it was a state or a federal one …
Yehaa! McCain speaks, market rallies! LOL
Crap! I missed the end of McCain’s “Rally Speech”!
GAh! Stupid CNN commentator!
tyrfing, by your own statement you didn’t even watch it, yet you’re making assumptions. You’ve only served to prove exactly what sort of liars libtards are.
Yeah, that was my take on how CNN will spin it, heh.
unless I misunderstood your meaning tyrfing..
tiredofito8″
Please be more careful in your wording. Trolls hang out here. Probably in 15 minutes or less, your quote:
“…Palin is rubbing…(McCain)”
will be the basis for a post on Kos, HuffPo and DU stating that a conservative site has irrefutable evidence that McCain and Palin are having an affair, which would prove she is a bimbo who only got on the ticket by sleeping with McCain.
Someone’s probably already getting a video ready for astroturfing, and it will be all over the MSM as fact by this evening.
That’s all we need.
Mac hit BO with everything … “Who is he?”, earmarks, on his delay in doing anything about the bail out, he “aided and abetted those who now need to be bailed out”, undisclosed donors. The audience was clearly excited and PO’d!!
Let the games begin.
oh I did. oops. ignore #116
Sarah’s fearless spunk must have given JMac some much needed courage. I too am watching the stock exchange numbers go up. The fear of an inevtable Obama win depresses me, but it appears to scare the living goose out of Wall Street and investors.
Axelrod and his boy calling it a “tirade”…a wink the left kooks who obsess over McCain’s temper. I’d rather love to his temper tomorrow night. Many of us are mad.
Ooh, low blow. The Chicago crowd must really be upset with that one, heh heh.
I suppose all the dead people in Chicago will vote twice now.
DesertLover: Thanks for your service!!
Believe it or not, I just registered two of my friends … in their 40s … never voted. Two more votes for McCain-Palin.
Every Dem talking head is ripping the whole McCain speech as “blatantly false” and “total misrepresentation” amd more in a tirade of denial and BS … they are so upset they can hardly talk without raising their voices …
Gotta Love It !!!!

I call it the truth.
OMG! If McCain comes out in the debate Tuesday swinging the same Clue-Bat, Obama’s in for a rough night. McCain basically said exactly what we’ve been asking for him to day. He called O a liar, said he was a “zero” because he’s done NOTHING in Congress. He pointed out that Obama ran on the “lowering taxes” platform in Illinois, yet did NOTHING during his time there to introduce ANY tax breaks for citizens. Wow! Simply wow!
The Old Man DOES actually have a pair!
BTW-That wasn’t a “tirade”… McCain went right at the jugular with a smile on his face!
Senator Obama has also criticized earmark spending, those wasteful pork barrel projects stuck in spending bills behind closed doors. And yet, despite his talk on the campaign trail, his actual record is full of requests for earmark projects. In his three short years in the Senate, he has requested nearly a billion dollars in pork projects for his state — a million dollars for every day he’s been in office. Far from fighting earmarks in Congress, Senator Obama has been an eager participant in this corrupt system. In one instance, he sought more than 3 million dollars for a new projector at a planetarium in his hometown. Coincidentally, the chairman of that planetarium pledged to raise more than $200,000 for Senator Obama’s campaign. We don’t know if they ever discussed the money for the planetarium, and no one has asked Senator Obama. But even the appearance of this kind of insider-dealing disgusts Americans. I’m going to put a stop to that, my friends, if I’m President.
DesertLover, OK if you say so, but you gotta admit it did sound like he wrote that speech
I’m still waiting for attacks on Obama for campaigning in Kenya for his genocidal/Marxist thug of a cousin.
Odinga lost his bid, but launched a campaign of “community organizing” (aka, agitation, rape, murder) until the government gave in to his demands and made him the prime minister.
Odinga also ran as a candidate for change, took up the cause of the poor, promised to redistribute the wealth and agreed to put Kenya under Islamic rule.
And Obama supported him unequivocally.
As a sitting US Senator.
On the taxpayers’ dime.
nativeaz08
cool … I raised 5 that are voting for McCain-Palin … so are their spouses and my ex … so that’s an even dozen …
Someone, quick… we need that speech on YouTube! Let everyone see it! Bypass the MSM liars.
BTW-market has rebounded into the 300 down range! Went back over 10,000! Woohooo!
I’m going to put a stop to that, my friends,
ifwhen I’m President.Corrected it for you, Mr. President.
brooklyn red … no disagreement there …
brooklyn red … no disagreement there …
LOL, DL. My entire family is voting for McCain (at least 300 … aunts, uncles, cousins)!! I’ve converted quite a few Dems as well. We all have to do our part!
I guess McCain has finally realized that if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.
ok … that’s 3 double posts today … what the heck iss going on ??? …
“I have made every single donor to my campaign publicly available, while Senator Obama has taken in over 200 million dollars from undisclosed sources. We have already seen the potential for fraud because of his refusal to disclose his donors. His campaign had to return $33,000 in illegal foreign funds from Palestinian donors, and this weekend, we found out about another $28,000 in illegal donations. Why has Senator Obama refused to disclose the people who are funding his campaign? Again, the American people deserve answers.”
Yeah, what about that talking heads???? Obots???
DesertLover #64, could that one statement by Sen. McCain be the 15th round knockout punch?
Also, after the 100 or so people were sent to Alaska by the Dems to try and find dirt on Gov. Palin, she, with a big smile, thanked them for contributing to Alaska’s economy. Awesome!
BINGO!! Every time I got angry about the republicans doing nothing in the campaign, my husband would say, “just wait, they don’t want to peak too soon. October is soon enough to take the gloves off.” Most people (other than us political junkies)don’t listen to campaign stuff till then anyway!
I heard part of his speech, and he was RIPPING Oblahblah! FINALLY! Sarah set the tone, but I wasn’t sure he’d carry on with it. What a relief. We have 4 weeks from tomorrow to slam this guy. Keep it up, McCain & Gov. Palin! We’re watching your back!
Obama spoke person just on Fox saying Obama sounded the alarm, about the Sub Prime Loans. When? She was just on tap dancing like crazy she was spinning so much she has to be dizzy. She looked nervous. They know this can’t bear scrutiny. Obama sued Citibank when they wouldn’t participate In Sub Prime Loans how do they spin that as concerned and calling for Regulation. Ignore the man behind the curtain, pay him no mind.
There is a crack forming in the Media Silence of the Democrats complicity in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac debacle.
Where is the FBI at this stage of their investigations into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
I’ve seen a couple liberal pundits on TV responding to McCain’s speech and I gotta tell ya, they are pissed! And hysterical. Ha!!
SW0303
If my #64 was said and it proved to be a KO for BO I would be very happy to have contributed … I won’t even demand any credit for it …
Sorry to disappoint, Brooklyn Red, but Rush was with his family in Missouri as his grandfather is being honored by the naming/renaming (?) of the federal courthouse after him. Rush Limbaugh the first, that is! His nephew is a federal judge in the courthouse. You go, Rush!
DagneyT …
Thanks for the clarification … I knew his nephew had been elevated to a new judgeship back in Missouri … thought that was the reason for the trip today …
DagneyT, yeah I went over this with DesertLover… well you can’t deny the similarities
Why don’t you get off this blog then? I am SO tired of pessimists. Vote for that corrupt socialist Obama and leave us alone.
brooklyn red …
sorry I misinformed you earlier …
CNN is covering THE SPEECH again… “McCain slams Obama” is their lead in to the story…
And by the way, the dems have also cooked the polls. So don’t lose heart. I think we can win!!
Who’s got the full video of this speech?
In the follow up on Fox, the Democratic strategist woman was shreiking that JMac lied, that Obama did SO have a record – like a 5 year old in a sandbox fight over a shovel! Since she had no evidence that Obama tried to rein in Fan and Fred, she sputteringly brought out that tired old canard that Obama had co-sponsored that nuclear safety legislation…that almost no one opposed. Announcer said that her satellite went out, but I think she disconnected to avoid being even more irrelevant and embarrassing herself any further. It. made. my. day.
Ditto that! My entire family, sans hubby and sons, are Democrats. They’re all scared to death of Oblahblah, and are voting for McCain. Of course, they’ll vote democrap on the rest of the ticket! At least they won’t vote a straight ticket. sigh
Sort of OT, but not really . . .
One of the introductory speakers at Sarah Palin’s Ft Myers rally used BHO’s middle name.
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/10/06/politics/fromtheroad/entry4504484.shtml
He just happens to be my brother-in-law’s cousin . . . and is known for pulling no punches.
There’s a reason he just won his GOP primary with like 97% of the vote.
Laree, when even their hero Slick Willie publicly blames the Democraps for part of it, what can the slavish MSM do but to agree at least a little bit!
What!?!?!?
He better stay on message, with this being the message, I mean.
Obama is a Chicago thug, lying piece of crap empty suit who is propped up by his thug/terrorist friends while being protected by his MSM friends.
There still has not been a single person who’s come forward and said, “My life was made better by Barack Obama’s efforts as a community organizer.” Not a single one!
That’s another story they should be touting from the McCain campaign. Can you imagine the fun we’d have taking apart the people they would try to offer to rebut that? Oh, Happy Day, indeed!
I made a couple of posts that mirrored what you already said. But I hadn’t read all the comments at that time. Sorry about that… I wasn’t trying to copy you. Just two great minds.
Brooklyn Red, in similarities, do you mean the possession of the equipment that makes a man…a MAN?
DagneyT, yeah something like that… now if Palin can just hit him again before he can recover.
Better late than never but I can’t help thinking it might be too little too late. The way the MSM is covering for Obama and the Dems is just scandalous, but of course most people have no idea about any of it. The Stock Market plunge hurts McCain more than Obama because of all that. Can he save it “Hail Mary” style with this and the last debate? I hope so….
It is about time!!! McCain needs to keep punching this one over and over and over. He needs sound bites of Barack Obama and his pals insisting that banks jump on the subprime band wagon. He needs to toss Barack Obama’s words at him over and over again tomorrow night. This should be McCain’s “bone” that he worries to death until November 5th.
But watch the Obama team. They are already denying that Obama knew of Ayers past – even though it’s not like Ayers and Obama had a one time meeting only. The one’s camp will find another denial for this one.
BR, LMBO! If anyone can do it, she can!
Well, it’s about time….this is fish or cut bait time…and McCain has finally risen to the occasion…good for him….he needs to do the full-court press in the debate tomorrow night…The One needs to be exposed for what he is….an empty suit, a figment of everybody’s imagination….The One has zilch experience and not qualified to be president of the most powerful country in the world….you go, John…as Harry Truman once said, “give ‘em hell”.
DagneyT and brooklyn red …
Not to kibbitz … but despite the physiological similarities there is a significant difference between a “male” and a “man” …
When did Sean Hannity start advising McCain-Palin?
I can’t wait for Colmes to embarass himself again tonight. It’s a nightly chuckle for me.
I’ve suspected this for some time – but just how the heck do we get the message out to those too lazy to go to the polls if they think it’s already decided?
DesertLover, and what part of the speech was not errr, manly?
Katablog, this is where we all need to get busy, and get out the vote. You know ACORN is doing their darndest to do so, we just have to outdo them! We’ve ALL got too much at stake in this election to just sit by and hope. One of our greatest weapon is prayer! Their side mostly doesn’t even believe in God, let alone what Jesus promised He’d do when we called on His Name!
BR … just pointing out the obvious since BO only qualifies in 1 of the 2 definitions while McCain fits both …
BR … just pointing out the obvious since BO only qualifies in 1 of the 2 definitions while McCain fits both …
Juan McCain’s friend: http://baltimore.fbi.gov/dojpressrel/pressrel08/ba092508.htm
DL, you seem to be repeating yourself a lot lately…
DesertLover ,
Seems like you are double clicking the Submit Comment button.
Yeah, but that same song and dance isn’t going to fly this time. How many times can they say Obama didn’t know? It only makes him sound that less qualified to be POTUS.
BR .. can’t explain it … been getting double posts a lot for some reason … I promise I am not repeating myself intentionally …
We also should see Barry O’s response to the question, “What do you think of the US Supreme Court’s ruling on Mumia?”
Obama and his supporters kept denying the Reverend Wright issue until the noise form the Right became too loud.
If Obama can find room under the bus he will try to throw Ayers there too. Only, it’s too late. The bus has stopped moving.
During the debates, McCain will have to explain this out like the viewing public is 4 years old to hope it sticks.
Right now, republicans are being blamed for this crisis, if you believe the polls. Also, the polls suggest that Obama is trusted more with handling the economy.
Why? It’s like when your sports team sucks. The coach gets the blame, and the coach is replaced. Bush was the coach for the past 8 yrs. Bush is a republican. The majority of the public don’t trust republicans to coach the economy for another term.
I agree. Unfortunately there are millions of voters out there that do not try and understand the details of issues. They need short, clear details.
That’s right. Palin can say that she found out what a communty organizer does and launch into an ACORN/Obama explanation.
MJ, re: “The majority of the public don’t trust republicans to coach the economy for another term“. LOL
The majority of the public thinks 18% on a credit card is a good deal…
