Sarah handles a heckler

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 6, 2008 10:01 PM

They don’t call her Sarahcuda for nothing.

She’s not taking lip from anti-war hecklers. Or anyone else.

Watch.

If this serious, composed, Palin did her thing last Thursday in the debate, perhaps the polls would be closer. Instead, she did the winking, folksie, gurshdurnit, “say it ain’t so, Joe” routine. I don’t know what prep guys told her do do this, but I think it backfired. People can see through the phoniness. The handling of the heckler here was really authenic and effective.

Sorry, if I wasn’t clear. I think she was authentic and effective with the heckler. Last Thursday, she seem a little mannered and phony with the winking and the catchphrases. I think the act hurt her in the polls. When she’s serious and stays on message, she scares me as a democrat. I agree with your assessment of how Sarah Palin handled the heckler, but if she had handled Joseph Biden as an in-your-face heckler, that would have backfired. She handled Biden very well and more importantly connected with the audience.

From what I have been reading tonight on some blogs, the Dems know it too and are scared spitless because they know that when JSM brings up real issues like Obama’s record they have no safe harbor. “Sen. Obama, then at what point DID you know about Bill Ayers past and why did you continue to associate with him?” “Ok, tell me, and the American people, the number of the bill that you either introduced or co-sponsored that ‘warned’ of the coming economic meltdown. Just the number senator, SB-what?, go ahead I’ll wait”

The dems I’ve read posting other places tonight are already setting up for an alternate narrative like “If you ’steal’ this election, there going to be riots in the streets” One actually posted that stuff. No folks, they’re scared, they know the glove are off and Obambi is going to be like a babe in the woods.

Obama would be wise to study his Gibson/Stephonafulgreeknamefakisitis moderated debate vs. Hillary. It was by far his worst performance, because he was trying to sit on his lead, and the “associations” were prominently mentioned. Hillary kicked his a$$, because he was trying to play above-it-all, and she was fighting for her life. John will be playing the Hillary role more so it the last debate, since tomorrow is the Townhall format. Obama has to learn from that dreadful performance with ABC, and counterpunch when attacked. He can’t be in “run out the clock” mode, because negative attacks work unless you fight back hard, and or spin the narrative sufficiently. This going to be a long, ugly 29 days.

All politics and personal opinions aside about her, every time she is on TV, she seems like she is on the verge of tears.

I wouldn’t underestimate this broad. I think she’s good on the stump, and was frustratingly good at the convention. If she alters the stylistic things I mentioned earlier, and continues to learn the policies, she’ll be a force to reckoned with. If she continues the schtick, she’ll be a laughingstock outside of her base.

Maybe we disagree about what a heckler is, but that occurred, as I recall, during his stump speech, not an open Q and A.

    Yeah…here is Fox’s account:

Delivering remarks on a new economic stimulus plan in Florida today, Obama was interrupted by a group of three young black men, who held up a sign reading “What About the Black Community, Obama?” and featuring the URL of Uhuru News – a left-wing pro-African organization. The chants of the three men and the subsequent attempts by the pro-Obama crowd to drown them out completely derailed the Illinois Senator, who was railing against special interests.

“Hold on a second, what’s happening?” he said — trying and failing to launch back into the speech as the audience began chanting “Yes We Can” to overpower the hecklers. “Excuse me young man, this is going to be a question and answer session, so you can ask a question later,” Obama told the most vocal of the protesters. “Just be courteous and you’ll have a chance to make your statement. Just relax.”

Did you miss the last presidential debate that Obama won, where he didn’t have a teleprompter? Did you miss the part where Sarah Palin is the one who literally can’t string a sentence together when she doesn’t have a teleprompter when she’s being interviewed for a news network? Goshdarnit, you sure are being selective in the extreme.

They removed a tyranical dictator from power who had his sites set on our destruction, have found an killed Al Qaida and other terrorists there.

The fight there is keeping the terrorists focused in Iraq to keep them from formulating new plans to come here to kill us. And whether or not you want to see it, they have freed an oppressed people and are helping bring freedom to people who need it. It is a war we need to win.

Personally, I don’t think The ObamaMessiah gets hecklers – at best someone who wants to ask him a real question might once in a great while slip through security. Palin, on the other hand, gets hecklers that call themselves interviewers or reporters. Katie Couric is too in the tank for The ObamaMessiah to ask him a real question, while Chris Matthews has that tingle going up his leg for The One. Governor Palin gets none of that fawning from them.

Tell it to the relatives of 2,860 people killed on 9/11, most of whom did not even have so much as a fingernail to bury.

Just why in the hell do you think we have not been attacked again? Fairy dust? Boots on the ground works every time.

In terms of spreading democracy, that’s a nice to have after thought. Our job in Iraq and Afghanistan is very straightforward. Find them, track them down, and kill them. All of them. And it they are at home with mom and the kids they get as much quarter as they have given women and children.

They wanted a war. Well, they have one.

I must, against my better judgment, respond.

Our troops took the fight to the enemy in order to keep them off of our soil (see 9/11). Are we spreading democracy? You bet we are. It is, among other things, part of the strategy to keep Al Qaida from establishing another stronghold in the region.

I know that there are gaggles of people out there who would like to believe that terrorism is at worst a marginal threat. These people are mistaken. We have not had a terrorist attack on American soil in over 7 years, and our military efforts in the middle east are directly responsible for that, whether you choose to admit it or not.

If we roll over and allow our enemies to attack us at will with little fear of retaliation (as is sickeningly likely with an Obozo administration), you will find out soon enough how much danger your freedoms are in. Islamofascists do not tolerate descent. And before you attempt to correct my assertions about what our soldiers are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan, know that I have been one of those soldiers and almost certainly will be again, and I know exactly why I was there.
