Flash: ACORN offices in Las Vegas raided
Just across the wire:
Nevada state authorities are raiding the Las Vegas headquarters of an organization that works to get low-income people to vote.
A Nevada secretary of state’s office spokesman said Tuesday that investigators are looking for evidence of voter fraud at the office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.
No one was at the ACORN office when state agents arrived with a search warrant and began carting records and documents away.
Secretary of State spokesman Bob Walsh says ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names.

Agents with the state attorney general’s and secretary of state’s offices served a search warrant this morning on the new ACORN headquarters. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now office is located at 953 E. Sahara Ave.
The warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into suspected voter registration fraud. Employees are suspected of using false addresses or false names, including those of former Dallas Cowboys, according to the secretary of state’s office.

If there is true fraud going on, there should be full investigation and prosecution. I’ll say the thing in regards to any type of voter intimidation, or manipulation of the process. I believe in playing dirty, but only if it’s legal.

I’ve voted for republicans on small local matters if I know them personally as being fair. I’m a moderate democrat. I can’t foresee ever voting for a republican for president. I had a brief fliration with McCain in 2000, but he left his sac in South Carolina that year. It’s probably still there.

Why someone would vote for Obama, and hope that he, along with a liberal democrat congress, have total power in this country is beyond me. Maybe they want the government to take care of them, with high taxes, lost freedom and liberty, I guess. I’ve looked at socialism is other countries (France, Britain, and Australia, etc) and see nothing but more government intervention in the private lives of families and individuals. Socialist healthcare has been great for them; which is why they come to the U.S. or India for surgeries, since many can’t wait in the lines. To make sure that expenses are down, the government decides how you live and what you do, since some things people do can cause “illness”…maybe. To pay for all the entitlements, taxes are raised. Oh, we’re going to hit those “evil” corporations, and who do you think is going to really pay for it? The corporations? No, the consumer. With a 36% corporate tax rate, and other countries (Ireland 15%) much lower, even more corporations are going to head out. Of course, the government will want to raise it even further. Oh, yes, got to hit the evil oil companies and ban all drilling. Who pays for the higher taxes? You got it, the guy at the pump. This whole bailout is the result of the Communnity Reinvestment Act of 1977, updated in the ’90s. Now the party is over and the “bill” is now due. Yup, we consumers pay for it. Keep voting those people in, and give them even more power, and watch the PC police go amok, as they get all the “feel good” laws passed. And, let’s get our enemies to like us, by talking to them. Never worked before, in history, but who pays attention to the lessons of the past? Enough said. Not a sermon, just a thought.

You are correct in that the liberals want Big Daddy government to take care of them. They dont want to have to worry about anything but what is Brad and Angelina doing lately. Or if the whales and the trees are doing ok. What an irresponsible way to live and think.
I’ve been very direct on this blog about how I think Obama is a typical, shady politician. I just think that he’s the lesser of two evils. I’m not the type of broad to vote 3rd party to make some sort of “point”.
What do I like about Obama:
1. I like the fact that he inspires people. I think the youth and urban voters will finally come out. I personally know a few republicans that are voting for him.
2. I appreciate his ambition. It may seem corny, but his story can only take place in America. He spent a brief period of time on public assistance before his grandparents stepped in to be the primary guardians. He has a funny name. He had the drive to become the the president of Harvard Law Review and graduate Magna Cum Laude. After graduating, he could have become rich in the private sector, but he instead elected to enter public service. He certainly isn’t making it this far on his family name or parent’s connections. He also didn’t marry into wealth and power. I also haven’t heard anything about him being unfaithful to his wife. I think he is a genuine good person in a shady business.
I’m not going to bore you with policy proposals but it’s safe to say that I’m a typical democrat. I WANT universal healthcare. Although, I have a upper middle-class income, I don’t mind paying higher taxes. We should have had our taxes raised to pay for our wars the past seven years, but instead we have sank into a half-trillion dollar deficit. As a democrat, I’m reminded of the economy that Clinton left vs. the economy that Bush is leaving.
I don’t want to bore the blog, but I’m a typical democrat who appreciates the fact that Obama can actually win.
On a side not, if any conservative thinks that black people will always vote for black people, you’re stupid. Please try to run Alan Keyes for president in 2012 and watch how much of the black vote he gets. Talk Clarence Thomas or that GOPAC cat, Steele, from Maryland into running, and watch what happens. I’m obviously not addressing this to you Cadman.

Mormons vote for Romney, no problem.
Women vote for Hillary, no problem.
Elderly whites vote for McCain, no problem.

I don’t want a President who “inspires people” and has ambition. I want a President who can deal with the volatile world we live in today. I am more concerned with the way he will handle our enemies and deal with our friends in the world, which is the only real power he has. These candidates can talk all the economics and healthcare they want to. Doesn’t mean a thing if congress doesn’t approve. One important point is that a party that has had total control in our country has turned out to be a disaster. Republicans, Democrats, Whigs and Federalists. With no opposition to their rule, they have turned to an “anything goes” government. With a liberal congress, a liberal President and a, soon to be, liberal court, once again, we will learn a hard lesson that other generations learned. Total power corrupts. I would even vote for a moderate democrat, if I saw a dominant republican congress, simply to keep both parties in check.

In Lake County, Indiana, home to Gary, county officials have found thousands of fraudulent names “registered” by ACORN. As of last week the Gary ACORN office phones were not being answered, you got a telephone co. recorded message of no answer and the Milwaukee ACORN office has had the telephone service turned off.

I had read this on Drudge. It’s about time somebody does something.
I’m at or already close to that. I live in CA, pay 10% income tax here (on top of Federal income tax), get slapped every year with the AMT, and on top of that pay the 35% CA corporate tax.
Is that enough? Or do you people want 90% of my income?

In Maryland, the joke is vote early and vote often. Checking for photo id is a no no. Asking for identification is a no no.
My guess, is that there will be a major push to force photo ids for voting in the future.

Well, I have had to live under “universal healthcare” in both Britain and Canada. I have worked in the “universal health care” system as it transitioned from a blended government/employer provided supplemental to an “all government” mandated system — the kind that makes Democrats like you wet with excitement.
Right now our family is living a nightmare AGAIN, thanks to “universal health care”. Just like my uncle’s precipitous death because of the wait times for him to begin cancer treatment.
Clearly you missed my long post on the Sunday open thread where I talked about the incompetence of what my Dad is going through during a massive heart attack — he flatlined twice, once in the ambulance on the ferry to the hospital.
If you think the US government, which can’t administer medicaid properly and without outrageous fraud, waste and abuse, can provide even “adequate” healthcare to everyone, then I don’t know what you’re smoking, but it’s good.
The ironic thing is, we had purchased health insurance for my parents to come here and get care, since the system in Canada is so messed up. Unless, of course, you are seeking expensive elective transgender reassignment surgery on the taxpayer dime. Then they’re open for business. Priorities in the PC culture, you know.

I don’t like higher taxes. I had a good paying job and paid 55% in combined fed/state income tax. Then add in 15% sales taxes, a variety of transfer taxes, and extremely high excise taxes on fuel — in a petroleum producing country. I don’t like paying unnecessarily high taxes, I like low taxes and the FREEDOM TO CHOOSE. A freedom I didn’t have in the UK or Canada or Europe.
Democrats like YOU make ME very angry. One of the things that makes the US so great is that it is NOT a socialist country in the European/Canadian model.
Surf the economists/financial blogs…one of the reasons that the market continues to fall is because the international markets are petrified that Obama might actually win. No one wants to invest capital in a socialist trending country …NO ONE. Socialists have a tendency to do stupid stuff like nationalize assets stripping investors of their investments, raise taxes, grow deficits and stall economies.
So, if you want to finally drive the stake into the heart of what remains of the US financial system, then, by all means, vote Obama and watch all that capital flee. It’s not like the US is the only place to stash your cash.
So, please do us all a favor. Stop trying to ruin this country, and just get up and go somewhere that is already YOUR version of nirvana. The Canadians are open for business.
