How ACORN got a piece of the bailout pie
I wrote a special column for the NYPost today about how ACORN snagged a piece of the bailout pie. Although House Republicans stripped an overt subsidy to Barack Obama’s left-wing housing entitlement and fraud-enabling friends at ACORN, they rolled over to the group’s demands for radical “loan modification” and foreclosure mitigation measures that spell more trouble. Many experts say this loan modification business is plagued by junk science — with its backers refusing to release data on re-default rates. It is also apparently an invitation to appraisal fraud. And, of course, patently unfair. (I remind you that Joe Biden made a deliberate point during the vp debate of floating and repeating the idea that bankruptcy court judges should be empowered to reduce loan principal as well.) In other words: Same old, same old. As I’ve said before, “Getting credit is not a constitutional right. Preserving home ownership should not be a government imperative to be pursued at all costs.” Neither should foreclosure prevention at all costs. (See also: “Not everyone should own a home.”)

“Rescue” rewards housing hustlers

If you thought the trillion- dollar-plus “financial-rescue plan” signed into law Friday had been stripped of the radical group ACORN, think again: The Chicago-based Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now’s fingerprints are still all over the law.
ACORN’s participation in “fixing” a crisis it helped create is flabbergasting.
For decades, the left-wing activist group pressured lenders to give loans to lower-income borrowers who couldn’t otherwise afford homes. The grateful homeowners then become political recruits, serving as foot soldiers for ACORN’s radical agenda.
Problem is, such mortgages are now going bad all across America. ACORN’s answer: Pressuring the banks not to foreclose on bad risks. And now, with the “rescue” bill, they’re getting ready to simply rewrite mortgages to make them affordable.
House Republicans removed one pro-ACORN measure from the rescue bill – torpedoeing a provision devoting 20 percent of all profits from the bailout to a housing slush fund – which would’ve funneled money to ACORN and similar groups.
In its place, however, ACORN’s favorite lawmakers – led by Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Barney Frank (D-Mass.) – got ACORN-championed “foreclosure-mitigation” provisions into the rescue.
This will radically expand the federal role in meddling with mortgage loans. The key sections mandate that the Treasury “consent” to rewriting loans to prevent foreclosures – not only by reducing interest, but also by cutting loan principal.
Stuck with a $300,000 mortgage you can’t pay? Get the government to wave its magic wand and cut your debt to $150,000.
The deal is only for those who have fallen behind on their mortgages, of course – not for all you chumps who’ve been paying on time.
And it’s a good bet that ACORN mortgage counselors will “help” decide which distressed borrowers benefit, and how.
The group’s housing arm, the Acorn Housing Corp., is already funded with millions of taxpayer dollars to renegotiate loans for low-income people who should have never received them in the first place. Loan modification is ACORN’s bread and butter.
And when the group doesn’t get what it wants, it will sue, protest and shake down until business and government bend again.
Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) foresees havoc: “Liberals who manage these programs will give away millions of free or reduced homes in neighborhoods all over America to families who could not otherwise afford them.
“The federal government now has the power to create federal housing projects, house by house, in neighborhoods all over America. Just imagine what that means for property values and the safety and security of your neighborhood.”
All this comes on top of the $5 billion ACORN-backed housing bill passed in July, which hands $600 million-plus to ACORN and similar groups to bail out homeowners under water and help countless more risky loan prospects.
During the floor debate on Friday, Reps. Frank and Waters assured Democratic colleagues that they had personally lobbied Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson on these measures and would press him to consent to “do the kind of loan modifications we’ve been urging.”
Waters exulted: “We’re in charge! . . . We own them now.”
If the banks and others that collect payments on these distressed mortgages don’t write down enough loan principal to keep Rep. Frank happy, he threatens hearings and new legislation next year.
He’ll have the backing of ACORN. ACORN President Maude Hurd warns that her “members plan to hold Secretary Paulson accountable and ensure he uses this authority to make streamlined loan modifications a priority for struggling American families.”
What’s next? Principal write-downs on credit cards and car loans? What incentive do responsible borrowers have left to pay their bills on time?
As independent housing-bubble analyst and blogger Patrick Killelea (patrick.net) notes: “Nobody was ever forced to borrow money. People who borrowed too much money made a mistake. If they can do that with impunity, they will keep on doing it . . . Every prevented foreclosure also prevents a deserving family from buying at a reasonable price.”
Thanks to ACORN, the bailout enshrines the homeownership-at-all-costs mentality that got us into this mess in the first place.

Not only did ACORN get their “piece of the pie”, but significant taxes were imposed on the oil industry.
The Democratic Socialists didn’t get the offshore drilling and oil shale bans extended, but they got the next best thing…cost-prohibitive taxation.
So, in other words – we’re screwed.
Plus, “loan modification” = “reparations”
The U.S. economy is toast on this one–the O’bummer presidency will force the government to crank up the printing presses and devalue the dollar significantly. His tax hikes and bad energy policies will further kill the economy.

I wonder why the congress critters rushed this crap through and then got the hell out of town????????? Maybe they had to go on break to actually read the bailout bill that they just voted for.
A perfect example of the entitlement mentality foisted on the American taxpayer exists here in Brunswick, Georgia in the half-dozen publich housing complexes. Their site states that “no one can be denied an apartment if (1) they’re unemployed (2) not looking for a job (3) not in job training. In other words, just because you’re a shiftless, sorry, non-working drain on the American taxpayer isn’t enough for the housing authority to NOT give you a free apartment. Most of these apartments, by the way, have better cars parked out front than I drive. One last note: who does the lawn work and upkeep of these apartments? Mexicans, of course, doing the work Americans won’t do. Especially Americans sucking off the taxpayer teat.

How about the Federal Government just declares “All mortgages are invalid. Anyone occupying a house with a mortgage now owns it free and clear.”

This is going to cripple the housing market far worse than it is as banks will not want to loan money to anyone they feel may have the slightest chance of going under for fear that they may never see the full value of the mortgage.

I sat in on a presentation by a local banker on how to obtain an Acorn loan. Among the things he told us were we could obtain a loan of up to $400k, we had to have household income at or below $104k, and they didn’t care about our credit score.
He told us, “If there are two of you earning over $104k, just declare the income of one of you so you come under that amount”.
Everyone in the room gasped and began whispering to one another.
He was from a very prominent nationally-known bank.
I think I’ll report him for encouraging the audience to defraud the federal government. In fact, I will do that.

Does any of this ring a bell? For me it explains EVERYTHING that is going on right now: the hatred, the lies, the smears, the ridicule, the coordinated trolls, even the empty suit, his equally empty mantra of undefined “change”, and his hesitancy to explain what he did as a “community organizer”.

You can count on the Soros-Obama ticket doing everything possible to throw our nation into chaos in an attempt to bring about their Socialist/Communist CHANGE.
I saw the warning signs back in March when Obama deliberately misquoted the constitution, implied that our constitution needed to be made “more perfect” (i.e., more socialist/Communist), and tried to stir up race conflict, class conflict, and gender conflict. It was all there in the speech that the biased MSM hailed as an “important speech on race”.
Oh, and he also managed to put the word “bomber” in the speech very inconspicuously.
One more reason for McCain to bring up Obama’s radical connections tonight.

I note that Franks took the low road once again. When he is not hiding behind his status as a homosexual he is accusing Republicans of racism. The reason we are in this mess is that any Republican who protested Clinton’s version of the Community Reinvestment Act or the Democrat money laundering going on at Fannie and Freddie would be accused of racism.
This exact thing just happened in my neck of the woods when a couple of guys wrote factual articles linking the financial debacle to the Democrats. Both were accused of writing racially tinged diatribes – and this accusation was from a left wing “educator” with all kinds of Chicago ties.
At this point, let the liberals accuse me of racism or homophobia or whatever. I am no longer listening to the evil protestations of the evil left. When “we the people” are afraid to confront evil and tell the truth, we will cease to exist as a free people.

I am tired of paying for my stuff and for every other loser’s stuff too, just so the *sshole dems can get a few more votes pandering to low lifes who made bad choices in life. What the h*ll do I EVER get from the gov’t besides screwed? Nothing. If you want the American dream EARN IT, and for god’s sakes DON’T SIGN a contract if you don’t knwo what you are signing up for. Any reasonable person knows that. If a revolution does not occur soon, this country will crumble. Especially given the fact that our gov’t seems to beleive we don’t have enough poor people here, so they import more by the millions each year. Then complain about how many poor people ther are in the richest country in the world. Eliminate the home mortgage interest deduction.
Have you thought about the time when these people can not pay their utilities bills. Then the government will claim that electricity is a right ( can not let people be cold or hot ) then our bill will have an additional tax on it to pay for those that can not afford to pay. Same as that tax on the telephone bill goes to pay for a telephone to those that can not afford to pay. Also the Al Gore tax for internet for the school kids. Each of us pay approximately $6+ a month for that.

We seem to rapidly be reaching a point where the Constitution no longer is the source of government here. Instead of ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…’ the responsible people have become the slaves to the irresponsible, slovenly, and malcontents. We are living under a new form of tyranny…
Hmm. If I don’t show any taxable income, I can get medicaid. That means others will have to pay for my medical bills, for my medications, and for my medical insurance. This is because some believe that we have a fundamental right to be treated by any doctor and we have a fundamental right to not have to pay for these professional services. This belief had always bothered me because it seems that food and shelter are more basic human needs. If one argues that medical care is an entitlement, why should one not be entitled to free house and fridge stuffed with free food. It seems that my argument is being now silenced as we have moved into the era of entitled houses. The only problem with this system is that not everyone will be equaly entitled to free housing. Some people will still need to pay for their goods; it appears that these same people will now have to pay alot more for others as well.
McCain was referring to his North Vietnamese captors. “Gook” was a euphemism for the enemy used by U.S. forces. Can you blame him?

The responsible people are not the slaves of slovenly malcontents. They are the slaves of government officials who have made it very lucrative for themselves to remain in government. They are not public servants, but are public parasites. The irresponsible people live a miserable life, but their votes are bought for having a few perks that allows them to continue their slovenly subsistance. Read the animal farm again, eventually that system failed. Soon, there will come a time to roast these overfed pigs.

The government doesn’t do anything without having HUGE strings attached. I don’t want the government doing anything for me except what it is supposed to do, like protecting the country. This bill sold us down the river and will screw us with our own money. Nothing like an endless chain of bailouts to cure a sick economy. The governemnt created this situation and STILL won’t take responsibility for it. When the next bailout happens, there just might not be any money left to take from us.

We were told that the cookie for ACORN was cut out of the first bill, HOWEVER, Sec 107 Contracting Procedures: removes the requirement for competitive bidding then adds: (b) Additional Contracting Requirements (paraphrasing) In any solicitation or contract …the Sec shall…to the maximum extent practicable…include and utliize minorities and women and minority woman owned businesses (as in MAUDE/ACORN) including contracts to asset managers, servicers, property managers and other service providers or expert consultants.” All that just says go get ACORN and LA RAZA and turn this over to them to give the money to the losers in life. The whole thing is a set-up to funnel these billions to redistribute the wealth!!

1st penny:
you must, in your mind, set the enemy & his tools at the same level… going “easy” on the useful tool/idiot simply shields the enemy from fire — which is one purpose of the Tool.
2nd penny:
On this site there are many trolls. They do their best to hid. Those that are obvious are stalking-horses, set to take fire while the rest whine & FUD, planting the psychological seeds of defeat.
So, how to recognise these “hidden” trolls, if I might recoin a phrase? Simple. In order for a Tool to be useful, you can’t take it too far from its function. You can use a screwdiver to pry, to drive screws, if its big enough you can use it as a hammer. You can’t use it as plyers. 2 can be used as chopsticks, but not plyers.
So, these people will use Alinsky tactics. When you write a fact-filled, highly linked post, he’ll focus on grammer. Call him on that and he’ll only read trivial segway sections… all the while claiming to have answered you fully and expressing surprise that you don’t see how enlightened his answers are — and screaming about his “love of country and he’ll be damned if dragging it through the mud…” etc.
These people can be openly for Obie or seem Ultra-McCain. The purpose in the latter is too make followers of McSham seem so unpalitable that you’re repelled.
These people will devolve into personal attacks immediately, and since most seem emotionally stunted, it will often incl. a masturbation{sp?} reference. Incl. w/the stunted emotionality is the inability to admit error.
I myself often have had tussles w/such here & elsewhere. I was often taken in, but after analysis of their MO, I saw the patterns, (that’s what I do at my job, and I’m excellent at it…), and so I will be fooled no more. And I’ve given you much of what I’ve found.
Take it, make it your own. Ignore the trolls here; fight the tools out there!

Show no mercy to unrepentent tools and evil workers. Once strongly exposed, they lose most of their power. The key, of course, is the “strongly” part. One factor that allowed our current crisis to build is that the Socialists have had no opposition. Look at GWB & his limp-wristed defense of the Constitution. Look at McCain & his bipartisenship: he’s managed to convert it into a curse-word. I have Rush on in Dad’s room while I write this. He’s saying the same things about “bipartisenship” as I have.
Name names, take no prisoners! Heinlein once said: “bipartisans just wait for a change of wind to hoist the Jolly Roger…”
I’ve put a “1st Thoughts” outline on Michelle’s site, a way to fix this I am certain will work — regardless of who wins. As I’ve said before, I’ve come to believe that we must work for McBackStabber, simply to teach the MSM to keep their bias to themselves. If Mc$150B-Earmark loses, it will be because he’s worked so hard to lose. My idea, however, will work just as well no matter who has the power after this Nov.

Thank you very much for asking! He is doing somewhat better, in a relative fashion. On another thread I’ve promised to update Dad’s status on his blog by Friday this week. My job has kept me jumping, and I wasn’t able to take leave until this week.
Well, he’s still in a coma, but he has moved (Glasgow scale)from a 3 (E1V1M1), (most coma) to a 4(E1V1M2). Most recently (while I was ex-CONUS)he’s moved to a 6 (E1V1M4). I’m told that it is unusal for a person to have Eye and Verbal still at 1, but his motor reaction at 4 — that this usually indicated PVS. I don’t believe it, but since we’re paying hard cash they’ll keep him hooked up and we wait.
