Stimulus-palooza: It never ends.
And thanks to the cooperation of a GOP White House and enough congressional Republicans, the orgy is expanding.
Nancy Pelosi is floating a new $150 billion stimulus package with the same old goodies attached — including “public works, increasing food stamps benefits and extending unemployment insurance for the long-term jobless.”
Get ready to swallow again:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that a $150 billion economic stimulus plan is needed now because of the faltering economy and she may call the House into session after the election to pass it.
Pelosi told reporters that the stock market meltdown, which has caused an estimated $2 trillion loss from pension funds, was a factor in her recommendation for a second stimulus bill. The first relief plan sent out $600-$1,200 tax rebate checks to most individuals and couples this year.
The House did pass a $61 billion economic aid proposal last month before lawmakers left Capitol Hill ahead of the Nov. 4 election. But a similar plan failed to pass the Senate. President Bush had promised a veto anyway.
If Democratic nominee Barack Obama wins the White House and if Capitol Hill Democrats make gains in the elections as well, it might be easier to pass a stimulus measure over dispirited Republicans, especially if the economy remains in big trouble.
The Senate is expected to be back at work after Election Day to complete a public lands bill and perhaps deal with other matters, such as a measure to extend unemployment benefits. The House also could return to consider a stimulus plan and additional issues in a lame-duck session before the newly elected Congress takes over in January.

What I wrote here on Jan. 18: “As I’ve said repeatedly now, stimulation-palooza will inevitably be larded up with special-interest pork and other spending goodies in the tens of billions of dollars.”
What I wrote here on Jan. 16: “I’m getting a few e-mails from readers who are convinced I shouldn’t be worried about the White House/Republican “economic stimulus” proposals because they’ll only include tax cuts. No, they won’t. They will be larded up with Clintonian goodies and giveaways and bailout measures–home heating bill aid, foreclosure aid to states, etc. etc. etc. They’ll only be arguing about how much to give away, not whether.”
What I wrote here on Jan. 4: “It would be one thing if “economic stimulus” simply meant tax relief. But in Washington–what with the White House looking for a legacy, the subprime crisis exploding, and “bipartisan consensus” in demand–there’s no way in hell any “economic stimulus” package will win approval without being larded up with gobs of needless, unwarranted spending. I don’t care who’s occupying the White House. “Economic stimulus” is a synonym for Big Government.”

And Cook County’s (ring a bell) Sheriff has ordered deputies to stop foreclosure evictions. That’s right, the County is taking the side of occupants against rightful owners. Property rights are dead in the US.
Not to mention the 57 billion dollar bill that failed before the bailout that was for “public works, increasing food stamps benefits and extending unemployment insurance for the long-term jobless.”
That would make it over 1 TRILLION dollars so far. SO FAR. More to come. Thats more than the entire Iraqi war debt in less that 2 months!!!

The really scary thing about all these proposals is that none of them do much if anything about the underlying problem that got us into this mess: government pressure on banks to lend hundreds of thousands of dollars to people who can’t afford to pay it back. Unless we solve that problem pronto, we’re headed for another similar crisis in 5 years or so.
If anything, Crapwich 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, etc. seem to funnel substantial funds back to ACORN-like activists to use to turn around and pressure banks again to make the very risky (if not suicidal) loans that created the problem to begin with. That’s like trying to put out a fire with something really combustible.
I’m heading to Pakistan. I figure if I’m able to kill Bin Laden and collect on the reward I might be able to afford the taxes that are coming.

One thing that’s never been discussed in these posts is the emergence of an entire Underground Economy once socialism sinks its talons completely into the visible economy.
Here in Flyover Country, such an economy could easily develop and conduct commerece unobserved. Barter and the black market would become common place. A handshake still works here. That’s the basis for any free economy.

Umm, what you are questinong is why someone who worked FT and paid taxes got back more than someone who worked only 30% of the time and paid much less (if any) taxes? Your complaint has a name. It’s called welfare. I am truly sorry you are unable to find steady work but what you are compalining about is something most all conservatives oppose vehemently. The least productive get the most from the gov’t (aka wealth redistribution).
Congress has become the new Robin Hood, stealing from the productive and giving to the lazy and irresponsible. Nice to see this race to the bottom to get votes from the ignorant and easily-manipulated, the entitlement class.
Laura Ingraham once said that the reason why the politicians want amnesty and more illegal aliens is that they want to replace this electorate with one they like better. This is part of that scheme, folks. With growing hordes of people dependent one way or another on the public teat, they’ll sit by while the politicans do what they want so long as the folks get their bennies.
I hate to admit it, but McCain is right on at least one thing. Earmarks. What I am afraid of is his stubbornness won’t let him move on to what will defeat Obama.
His major talking points from this moment on has to be that Obama, ACORN and sympathetic Democrat supporters have done more to bring about our current financial mess than anything else. He needs to name names and provide the specific and substantive solutions.
He needs to understand that Obama and most Democrats are not interested in bi-partisanship. They only want to crush Republicans in general and conservatives in particular. McCain needs to understand that his opposition in this election is not unlike the enemy that held him captive all those years ago.
Economic Stimulus Package eh? Sure have been seeing lots of those recently. I have a better solution. I call it the Permanent Recurring Proportional Economic Stimulus System. Basically, everyone gets a certain amount of instant cash back, proportional to what they are paying, every time they send money to the government. It’s like a stimulus bill, but less fuss because it kicks in automatically every spring without any legislative effort.
*Some people have said this idea sounds like something called a “Tack’s Kutt”. I have never experienced such a thing, but it doesn’t sound like something congress would buy into. P.R.P.E.S.S. seems more their speed.
