Who was the Obama plant at last night’s debate?

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 8, 2008 06:01 AM

Greg Ransom e-mailed me the answer:

“The Obama plant was Tom Brokaw.”

Har. Indeed. From my liveblogging last night:

Brokaw gets rolled again: “I’m just hired help here.”

Obama: “You’re doing a good job, Tom.”

Might as well have called him “sweetie.”

I truly think McCain may be dumber than a box of rocks. He missed so many opportunities last night. Why not ASK how Obama is going to give a tax cut to 95% of American households when about 50% pay no taxes at all right now? Why not ask how much you are going to raise taxes on “the rich” when the top 1% of earners pay 40% of taxes and the top 10% of earners pay 60% already?
I live in MA and let me tell you that $250k isn’t a lot of money here. Heck the toll takers on the pike are making $70k and the cops all make well over $100k. Of course they will all vote for the chosen one and his “tax cut”.
    God help us all.

That’s the same thought I had. Tom Brokaw is just as much of a MSM liberal as his colleagues at MSLSD, he’s just more subtle and smooth about framing the discussion on purely liberal terms. That was not a real townhall event, because the questions were almost all from the center-left, or left.

    No pro-life.
    No Second Amendment.
    No economic liberty.
    No federalism.
    No Supreme Court, judicial activism.
    No illegal immigration.
No energy without Al Gore talking points.

This was Brokaw’s mission, to keep this thing in Obama’s comfort zone, and neutralize any advantage McCain had in the townhall format, by making the townhall format a sham.

    I miss Rick Warren.

Don’t worry about a veto proof majority in the house or senate–Obama and the socialists / marxists are all on the same sheet of music. He will pass anything they want–it’s his dream.

Worry more about a filibuster proof senate–with the RINO’s and reach across the aisle guy there will be nothing left to stop the country’s upcoming trainwreck. A 60+ senate majority is here.

On a weird and yet funny note, I grabbed this from Ben Smith’s Blog:

McCaskill was stepping out of her chair at the end of an MSNBC interview, and Romney was up next. She and a staffer unplugged her various wires, and she handed Romney the earpiece the guests use to hear the host.

“I spit on this before I put it in,” she said to Romney, with a sweet smile.

UPDATE: Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom emails: “You should have seen what she did to the chair.”

Lovely, classy bunch those Dems, no?

These were my thoughts. The guy was a really weak “moderator.” If this had been a real townhall debate, only the people in the audience would have been allowed to participate. As other people have pointed out, a lot of the questions were just lame.

Americans really have no clue about what’s relevant and what’s not. Where were the questions about illegal immigration? Abortion? Second ammendment? ACORN? Personal responsibiliy? Education? Social entitlements?

This phoney townhall debate gave the feeling to Americans that they were “participating” when really, they weren’t. Nothing was really accomplished last night. It was just some more cover for Obummer and the American people bought it hook, line, and sinker.

I’d like to ask the American people something:

Do you really think Obummer knows what he’s doing?

Do you think it’s fair to bail out deadbeats?

Do you think it’s fair to not only demonize businesses but tax them out of existence until they have to lay off people and can’t expand?

Do you think it’s fair to mandate housing as a “right” along with credit?

Do you want someone who will pander to you or someone who will tell you the truth?

Do you think it right to raid the budget of the military, cut jobs and programs that will help modernize the force?

I’ve got some news for most Americans: Big Daddy government isn’t gonna solve your problems. Healthcare isn’t a right. Housing isn’t a right. Credit isn’t a right. Universal pre-k isn’t a right. College isn’t a right. And none of these intiatives of Obummers are free.

Americans, you will pay. Not only with your tax dollars but with your freedom. You may think you’ll be the lucky 95% who won’t get taxed but it will be the welfare cheats and deadbeats who will get the handouts.

Americans, get a clue. If you don’t think that socialism isn’t alive and real just ask Spain, the UK, Canada, and France for starters, okay?

    (emphasis added)

This is the same crap that happened to CA when Gray Davis was governor. Whatever the socialists wanted, they got. He started with a 12 billion dollar surplus and when he got recalled, it was a 38 billion dollar deficit! 50 billion dollars spent and nothing to show for it! He claimed he was going to be the Education Governor but CA is still in bottom 5.

Expect the exact same crap if Obama is elected.

So, these things are only for those born into wealth or those in the very tiny minority that manage to work themselves out of being born into a poor family?

When people treat the idea of fairness with as much disdain as you do, is it any wonder that Western Europe is full of social democracies?

Omu is so off base it’s hard to know where to start. Lots of people have health care, housing and credit, and were not born into money; they did it the old fashioned way by getting a job and practicing common sense and personal responsibility. Your party, through class warfare and wealth redistribution, seeks to guarantee the best that life has to offer with no strings or effort on the part of those who do nothing to improve our country, let alone their own personal lives. The constitution provides for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; it also allows a person to fall flat on their butt if they have that coming. Maybe that’s why they call it the American way of life, and your comparison to western europe makes even less sense. Germanys’ economy has been in the crapper for years…Great Britain is crippled with a highly inefficient and grossly expensive health care system….France can’t provide gainful employment to its’ people, and were you honest, you’d admit a lot more people emigrate from europe to here than vice versa. You get out of life what you put into it, nobody owes you anything, and most people don’t like paying other peoples bills, a lesson you would learn if you grew up and moved out of your mothers basement. If you want high government involvement in your life and a socialistic utopia (which has failed everywhere it’s been tried) then I suggest you move to western europe and make both of us happier. Maybe if you travelled a little and saw how other countries have it compared to us, you’d improve your attitude a little and be more grateful for the opportunities this great nation provides rather than whine a diarrheal discharge of vitriol and dissatisfaction. There are too many spoiled brats just like you in America….people who want everything handed to them on a silver platter without doing anything to deserve it, and it’s more pathetic still when, with a little effort and the right attitude, you can live the American dream and have anything you ever wanted. Don’t blame everyone else for your shortcomings, don’t expect everyone else to pay your bills, don’t plan on the government replacing your mother, and don’t plan on ever being spoken to as an adult until you develop some maturity and common sense.

I’m not poor or rich. I’m middle class. I’ve never expected anything from the government that I didn’t work for myself. I know, based on my history backround and exposure to European culture, that no entitlement is ever free. Please, stop reverting to emotion and use some common sense.

When people treat the idea of fairness with as much disdain as you do, is it any wonder that Western Europe is full of social democracies?

This isn’t about social equity or fairness. It’s about how much both our REPUBLIC not democracy and the American taxpayer have to be on the hook for all your well-meaning largesse. I have disdain for lazy people like yourself who think that hard-working people like my husband and I should support layabouts and welfare cheats.

So, you’re advocating socialism? You, like a lot of Americans, want your part of the treasury as a return for your vote, correct? Western Europe is full of socialist governments with a little bit of democracy and heavy taxation. People have ceded their freedom for a little bit of security that is false. They have decided that America should defend them and have shrunk their militaries as the UK and France have done.

I’m sorry that you are so weak-minded that you’ll trade your freedom/citizenship for a bag of coins. This country wasn’t built on entitlement. It was built on freedom. The freedom to choose one’s destiny. Not a government that would control what kind of healthcare, education, and job you can get. Or no job, public housing for that matter.

Your attitude is telling and revealing. Sad, really.
