Caution: Ignorant, gun-hating MSM at work
Newsweek put a 2002 photo of Sarah Palin holding a shotgun on its latest magazine cover. The editors are clearly trying to freak out their liberal readership.
But their latest PDS ploy is going to backfire. She looks fabulous and it’s a reminder that she isn’t just a conservative elitist who sits in a Manhattan office or in the ivory tower bloviating about the Second Amendment. She practices what she preaches:

The wonderful thing about the Palin effect is that it’s so effectively exposing MSM hatred and ignorance. Check out LA Times blogger Elizabeth Snead’s moronic comments about the Palin cover: “Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?” (Hat tip – Ace.)
I’ll let some of the snort-worthy reactions of LA Times readers speak for themselves:
I suppose that liberals would never know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun – being that you rely solely on the bravery and honor of patriotic Americans to protect you.

Is that a right way to hold a rifle? No. But it is an appropriate way to hold a breech loading shotgun. Which that is. Reporters often wonder how those rural hicks always can spot them. It’s comments like that. It’s ok to wikipedia things. That doesn’t make you a stupid rural hick. In fact, having your facts right might make you seem less of an arrogant, erudite reporter who doesn’t even know what she doesn’t know.

Your question was “Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?”
Obviously you don’t know anything about guns….your finger has to be on the trigger for it to discharge. Also, with an over and under firearm, like that pictured, the gun has to be closed to fire. Guess you should stick to the gossip and fashions – Go get some gun training before you make stupid comments like that!
Posted by: ladyshooter | October 08, 2008 at 05:34 PM
That’s not a rifle it’s a over under shotgun, Which is broken open at the breach. That’s a common way to carry them.
Posted by: royf | October 08, 2008 at 05:35 PM
Well, actually, it’s not a rifle. It’s an over and under shotgun; but coming from Southern California, we can’t expect all of you to know that.

Posted by: OIFVetForMcCain | October 08, 2008 at 05:40 PMThe longarm appears to be a shotgun and side by side which breaks open. It is not possible to shoot the gun with the action open. Many hunters do carry a shotgun broken open like that over their shoulder.
I suggest before you ask a question if that is the correct way to hold a gun talk to people at a gun shop or range or hunter shop.

A rifle? That isn’t a rifle. But then, how can we expect anybody in the press to know that?

Here’s the bio of the LA Times blogger Elizabeth Snead:
Elizabeth Snead is creator and writer of The Dish Rag, a daily blog about celebrities, style and awards fashion, as well as the weekly “Red Carpet Rewind” feature.
Elizabeth previously served as fashion editor at USA Today for over a decade. She’s covered Hollywood’s hottest red carpets and the sizzling international style scene as a regular at film festivals from Sundance to Cannes.
She’s profiled A-list stars such as George Clooney, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Jane Fonda, and Drew Barrymore for USA Today and she penned the scathing E! Fashion Police for five years, calling some stars to task for unspeakable crimes of fashion and praising others for their superb style.
Stick to fashion policing and leave the gun critiques to people who know what they’re talking about, sweetie.

24Klady, I see your point. My point is just what their response is. Believe me, this is a conversation I’ve had. You should see the town I live in. Most everybody is some flavor of leftist.
Now that’s hitting em where it hurts!
Liz should have remembered two things before she wrote this hilariously incorrect commentary.
1 – Google can be a friend to the totally clueless.
2 – Old adage: “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

You brought up smokers. When it all hit the fan some years ago and the lawsuits started, I said then once they controlled that they would go after the obese/overweight. Now Obambi wants to tell you how much you can eat and at what temperature you should keep your home, how you’re not going to be allowed to sit on your sofa if you want, what you can say out loud and control your sources of information. Ugly trend we’re witnessing.
I like the “look” of George Clooney, he’s extrodiary too, but I don’t want him running the country.
P.S. Radical meat lovers – please lay off the vegetarian insults. There are numerous conseratives on this blog that don’t eat meat and its not because of any liberal world view.
Thank you, thank you…i can’t stop laughing…
Another thought— the cover leaves an impression on me that this is another subtle backhanded swipe at religion. See this lady? She hunts because Goood says she can. Says so in the Biiible. Am I reading too much into it? Why else do they bring up her history of hunting? Cruelty to animals. Eating meat is cruel. Lotta mean people out there. Food networks better clean up their acts. However, when I search for a list of Presidents who have or have not hunted, the search engine gives me listings that pertain mostly to links involving “Presidents” and “haunted,” or Cheney (of course), or scavenger hunts. Oh, and an NYT story about candidates Harrison and Cleveland written in…1892. I know the info’s out there, just haven’t looked hard enough yet. List of Presidents who owned slaves? No problem, first link. Who owned guns? Not so easy to find. I must be doin it rong.
Folks, as I posted this elsewhere, go to this link (PBS) and vote:
PBS is asking if Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP of the US.
So far it’s tied 49/49
VOTE HERE NOW:
The link works now.
“We didn’t claw our way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables.”

I too lived in one of the most liberal areas in NorCA. – once I left and moved to a southern state it dawned on me how I’d been programmed to never really speak my mind. I still want to jerk the arugula and tofu burgers out of the hands of morons though.
Omu,
That reminds me of something I read in Chuck Yeagers biography.
When the Army was teaching him to fly out in Wyoming, he was flying a Bell P-39 trainer. He would spot a herd of pronghorn antelope, and strafe them. Then people on the ground would go dress them and have them for dinner that night.
Chuck Yeager, truly a great American!
That’s the proper way to hold a shotgun – of course, no one on either coast knows this because they loathe middle America.
Yes, someone from middle America used the word “loathe”.
24Klady, I live in a state that used to be a southern state, but is turning into a left wing northeast state. I am entertaining the thought of moving. Seriously, only aging parents causes me reason to pause.
This is just like liberals…they try to exhibit “knowledge” about things, in this case, firearms, and firearm safety, of which they have no knowledge.
A few more things that fit into this category:
how to fight a war
how to win a war
how to define “victory”
how to “manage” an economy effectively
free speech
respectful dissent
defining “patriotism”
Subjects in which they have no equal:
redustribution of other’s wealth
mismanagement of financial resources
skewed priorities
demogoguery
active prevarications
inability to be forthright and honest
inability to shoulder responsibility for mistakes, errors and misjudgements
partisanship
misuse of the English language
effective use of covert slavery for preservation of political power and dominance
propaganda
malfeasance
obfuscation
parsing of the English language for plausible and legal deniability
creation of monetary sinkholes
creation of feckless commissions
holding hearings to demonize opponents
excuses for multiple failures
Yes, Democrats are experienced!
Let’s break that down. She lap-danced for liberal Hollywood a$$clowns Clooney and Redford, and sucked up to loudmouths Streisand and Stone in addition to cavorting with Hanoi Jane Fonda.
All for a paper which caters to readers with a fourth-grade education.
Even I knew the difference between a shotgun and a rifle in fourth grade. But, then again, I grew up in a “fly-over” state.
Pull!
I am one of those conservative vegetarians. And I don’t eat meat because of health, not because of a liberal world view.
Got to head for work, y’all have fun. Give em heck!
and they can’t go to their Fulcrum Street orgies without their leather crochless chaps, vest, and whips.
Wait until they control health care in this country – you only think they control what you put in your bodies now, wait until they are paying the bill then they will dictate what you eat, drink, smoke etc.
The difference here is that she knows Putin & Chavez are going to be unfriendly, with goals that run contrary to her common sense…
… wait, never mind… I see the comparison now.
nyk? You there?
mjtyson #211
I’ve had friends over the years who do not eat meat for religious reasons and others that do not for health reasons. I have always provided for them when they came to dinner and respect their belief/reasons. My criticism is towards those that are vegans because it’s the current thing to do or because of a liberal world view and would in a NY minute deprive me of the luxury.
Don’t group the south east with the north…we know a little bout guns down here!
So when does sheep season start Gold!
And this comment on that bloggers site says it all about liberals.
What an ignorant jackass.
Yes, I think most conservatives would agree that we would defend anyone who acted out of CONVICTION. However, libs seem to act out of a need to control, or alienate, others.
My lib SIL is vegan one week, next week she’s eating eggs, then another time she’s eating turkey, fish, etc. About the time I think I understand, she’s back to no meat, seafood, dairy, etc. again. I can’t keep up. It doesn’t seem to be a conviction for her, but rather a confused ideology.
Not to mention that it was Dems who wore (still wear?) those robes.
And have one in the Senate — Mr. Robert Byrd.
So in other words… if it doesn’t apply, let it fly.
How long before they start going after SCOTUS for wearing robes (albeit black ones) and siding with the 2nd Amendment?
It is an example of how powerful the MSM is that they have been able to paint Repubs as the bad guys, while ignoring this fox in their henhouse. Pork barrel politics (Byrd droppings in WV) has its benefits.
…except for Obama who will be allowed to smoke. You already pay for his health care.
They already do that in CA.
There’s no bias in the MSM (sarc.)
BlameAL #229
A friend recently returned from CA and couldn’t get over the fact he wasn’t allowed to smoke anywhere on the grounds of the hotel overlooking the beach but could look down and see dogs and other critters using the sand to go potty. What he had to say is not printable.
John f-ing “can I get me a huntin license” kerry probably would hold a rifle like that.
I do have a serious question. At what point will conservatives say enough is enough and take back the country? What will have to happen and how will we take it back. It’s obvious after this financial debacle that what we want doesn’t matter. The fact that Acorn still is allowed to operate shows our vote doesn’t matter…I often wonder, what will it take to make this country free again. Those young men (and recently women) who have died for our country would roll over in their graves to see what they have given their lives for.
You’d like to think so, wouldn’t you?
It was a snarky, stupid question from an ignoramus. Next?
ECS
Dear stupid person,
Governor Palin hunts animals. She and her family eat the meat from the animals. The animals she hunts are wild and not easy to find. The hunting defenseless animals from a helicopter crack is just stupid. If you’d bother to research the subject, you would have learned that she was in favor of Alaskan Fish & Wildlife officers (not ordinary hunters) being allowed to shoot overpopulated wolves from the air.
On the other hand pro-life has to do with the preservation of human life. If you can’t make the distinction between animal life and human life, then perhaps you’re just too stupid to vote.
ECS
I like this better. I like veggies next to meat on my plate.
ECS
I’m not sure how Kerry held a “rifle” (although we know he pointed it at peoples’ backs. But I do know how Al Gore positioned his.
An addendum to memo to Stupid Person:
PETA, the radical fringe animal “rights” group is in favor of saving animals, by any means necessary. However, ask any PETA member if they’re pro-choice, and you’ll hear a resounding “YES”.
OK, they’re for saving animals, but for killing human life.
What moral equivalency.
It has also occurred to me, that if they apply an iota of logic to their conflicting and ridiculous positions, they would probably implode. For example, if “evolution” truly demonstrates that man was derived from some other species, with man being the ultimate outcome of evolution, then why would we want to interfere with evolution’s progress by killing babies???
Michelle,
Are you sure you didn’t mean to get outraged (as GOP strategist Andrea Tantaros was) at the latest cover of Newsweek, which shows Palin in a close-up photo. The cover with the shotgun is several weeks old.
Here’s a photo of Kerry with a shotgun – one he accepted as a gift, but also one that would have been banned with a bill he sponsored. The usual Dem hypocrisy…
walterc-#60, copy that! BTW, we have a lot of barbed wire and split rail fencing also, it’s just some of the fancier stuff in some older town areas or upscale newer sections have the spikey or “shish kabob” fences!
MtsEdge 239:
Great point! Zing…thunk, bulls eye! You’re right, they couldn’t handle the common sense of it.
you have to wonder why they care about global warming, or the extinction of any animal, since a new one would just evolve…that they are so concerned makes you wonder if they really believe what they preach.
Why is everyone making a huge issue of hunting? As someone here pointed out before, the Inuit hunt. Is indigenous hunting better or worse than if a white person hunts? By the way, it is only an animal, not a baby or a sick person. let’s not forget the huge restrictions and moratoriums.
Furthermore, being vegan is worse for the environment because it would require more land for vegetables that barely anyone would stomach.
There is room for all of God’s creatures- next to the mashed potatoes.
Nice photo! Discard copy and frame.
Me #245: Zing…thunk! Another bulls eye. You guys are good!
thanks… :bows: …
merely attempts to control other people’s behavior, if you ask me. grrrr.
Also, if man has only existed for a relatively short time as compared to the lower life forms that he hunts, then WHY WORRY? The animals have (and will) survive…the mental contortions that it takes to understand lib thinking make my head hurt. Oww.
Right on!
I eat meat with every meal.. and ofen as a snack. I would like to have a collection book where I could check off each animal on the planet as I sample its flesh. I would LOVE to have a lion burger… it would probably not be good, most predator meat isn’t too tasty, but it would be cool to shoot one, eat it, and mount the head and skin in my living room!
I think we should raise endangered animals as a food sourse… Polar Bear ranches! Harvest the meat, sell the skin and head. Sell the gall bladder to the Asians for their medicinal use, and give a new industry to the great white north.
They do it with buffalo, and they are doing well now.
MtsEdge, first you are presupposing that any liberal is capable of logic. These people believe in socialism; ’nuff said.
As for PETA, do not forget that their dear leader sent a letter to Arafat asking that he leave animals out of their conflict with Israel. You see, Hamas strapped explosives to a donkey, sent it into a group of Israelis, and detonated it. PETA was concerned about the donkey.
I wonder if PETA would have been okay if Hamas had used an elephant?
Rob, you and my hubby would have some great conversations!
As long as it was really a Republican in an elephant suit.
In New Zealand, they had a problem with non-native animals. Namely deer. They weren’t endangered but basically, they’re just really big rats. They were pushing out the native animals. Their solution was to farm them and sell the meat and skin to the highest bidder.
The deer are now under control and (wait for it!) they have a new industry that makes money!
The Daily Beast linked this U.K. Telegraph article so I sent them a copy of this. Liberal Media not only lazy but sloppy too.
http://sarah-palin-2008.blogspot.com/2008/10/sarah-palin-related-to-princess-diana.html
I’d change that to read Ignorant, RELIGION-hating, gun-hating MSM.
Afterall, they’re not only digging at gun-owners with the picture, but the headline is clearly an attempt to portray her as a cultish religious zealot. Yet another elite-wannabe (they are not elite, they are elite wannabes) taking a dig at religion.
Reality? Nobody willing to let Barack Obama lead this country and be in charge of dealing with these problems is more intelligent than a 12 year old.
Reality? MOST Human Beings are as dumb as dirt.
This moron likely had to be told which end of the gun the round comes out of.
These are the same nitwits who spread a picture of a bullet, casing and all, to claim US soldiers were shooting at civilian houses.
PETA doesn’t want people eating animals, or hunting animals, or having pets, but they don’t seem to have a problem with killing animals: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/
That kind of hypocrisy is what makes the left what it is today – sickening.
ECS
I’m another conservative vegetarian for health reasons and a myriad of other reasons.
But I would never, ever tell anyone else not to eat meat! If humans were meant to be total vegetarians, we wouldn’t have incisors and have systems to digest meat.
I always find it ironic that the same people who would insist that others not eat meat would also be the first to fight for abortion to be legal. Lamb fetuses for coats is BARBARIC, but dead babies are just a “choice.”
I might add I’ve been able to shoot guns since I was a little girl of 8.
I’m a former conservative vegetarian, but I got over it, thank God. I really missed buffalo wings.
I couldn’t help but notice above that some tool equates animal life with human life. That should tell you everything you need to know about the loony left.
You can’t have an intelligent debate with an unarmed opponent.
Let’s take it apart piece by piece starting with… WHY is it that things are getting more hairy along the Pakistan Afghanistan border and along the Turky Northern Iraq border? It’s because of SUCCESS! Al Queda is indeed on the run; they’ve been pushed OUT of so many places in Iraq and Afghanistan that they’ve been concentrated along both of those border areas where they attempt to play one country against the other while keeping up DESPERATE political attempts to STOP either pair of countries/allies from cooperation. It’s the smell of VICTORY!
The economy is NOT ‘melting’. The prices of things overinflated by a false credit foundation are falling. Those who are overextended are the ones who are hurting – not those who are frugal. Not “Economic Melting”, it’s economic JUSTICE, (and I think the so-called bailout is obstructing that justice).
As for the market, NASDAQ lost ONE HALF of it’s value in the final months of the Clinton administration.
So yes, we ARE looking at a magazine cover and it is of the ONE person out of four in the presidential race who is MOST likely able to take on the GREED, CRONISM, LIES and FRAUD in the federal government because she a BELTWAY OUTSIDER and already has a track record of doing those things in her own state.
Her toting a double barreled shotgun is exquisitely apropo in THAT regard .. woodencha say?
Well, that’s the first time I had to wipe off the computer screen after reading a quote. What a maroon!
This thread has been hijacked by the vegans.
The issue isn’t about who does or does not eat meat.
It’s about clueless liberals who want to set the rules for us but don’t know the first thing about the subject at hand.
For some real entertainment go read the comments at the link Michelle provided to the original article:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2008/10/how-did-newswee.html
Which, I might add, many of us knew the reckoning would happen sooner or later.
So, what about Barney Frank and Chris Dodd! Apparently they were the main government architects of destruction of our economy! What about them? Lets demand hearing from Congress! Ooops, Pelosi, one of them in charge of the House! Well, forget about that, then who?
How about us! We pay these dumb a## h####! According to the Constitution, we are supposed to be the ones in charge. We would be if enough of us declare it so!
