Caution: Ignorant, gun-hating MSM at work
Newsweek put a 2002 photo of Sarah Palin holding a shotgun on its latest magazine cover. The editors are clearly trying to freak out their liberal readership.
But their latest PDS ploy is going to backfire. She looks fabulous and it’s a reminder that she isn’t just a conservative elitist who sits in a Manhattan office or in the ivory tower bloviating about the Second Amendment. She practices what she preaches:

The wonderful thing about the Palin effect is that it’s so effectively exposing MSM hatred and ignorance. Check out LA Times blogger Elizabeth Snead’s moronic comments about the Palin cover: “Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?” (Hat tip – Ace.)
I’ll let some of the snort-worthy reactions of LA Times readers speak for themselves:
I suppose that liberals would never know the difference between a rifle and a shotgun – being that you rely solely on the bravery and honor of patriotic Americans to protect you.

Is that a right way to hold a rifle? No. But it is an appropriate way to hold a breech loading shotgun. Which that is. Reporters often wonder how those rural hicks always can spot them. It’s comments like that. It’s ok to wikipedia things. That doesn’t make you a stupid rural hick. In fact, having your facts right might make you seem less of an arrogant, erudite reporter who doesn’t even know what she doesn’t know.

Your question was “Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?”
Obviously you don’t know anything about guns….your finger has to be on the trigger for it to discharge. Also, with an over and under firearm, like that pictured, the gun has to be closed to fire. Guess you should stick to the gossip and fashions – Go get some gun training before you make stupid comments like that!
Posted by: ladyshooter | October 08, 2008 at 05:34 PM
That’s not a rifle it’s a over under shotgun, Which is broken open at the breach. That’s a common way to carry them.
Posted by: royf | October 08, 2008 at 05:35 PM
Well, actually, it’s not a rifle. It’s an over and under shotgun; but coming from Southern California, we can’t expect all of you to know that.

Posted by: OIFVetForMcCain | October 08, 2008 at 05:40 PMThe longarm appears to be a shotgun and side by side which breaks open. It is not possible to shoot the gun with the action open. Many hunters do carry a shotgun broken open like that over their shoulder.
I suggest before you ask a question if that is the correct way to hold a gun talk to people at a gun shop or range or hunter shop.

A rifle? That isn’t a rifle. But then, how can we expect anybody in the press to know that?

Here’s the bio of the LA Times blogger Elizabeth Snead:
Elizabeth Snead is creator and writer of The Dish Rag, a daily blog about celebrities, style and awards fashion, as well as the weekly “Red Carpet Rewind” feature.
Elizabeth previously served as fashion editor at USA Today for over a decade. She’s covered Hollywood’s hottest red carpets and the sizzling international style scene as a regular at film festivals from Sundance to Cannes.
She’s profiled A-list stars such as George Clooney, Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone, Jane Fonda, and Drew Barrymore for USA Today and she penned the scathing E! Fashion Police for five years, calling some stars to task for unspeakable crimes of fashion and praising others for their superb style.
Stick to fashion policing and leave the gun critiques to people who know what they’re talking about, sweetie.

Oh, well duh. So simple I couldn’t see it (a flaw my wife points out on occasion). Thx Sambo.
It makes a great desktop background.
Cause and Effect is right !! Illinois is such a wuss state. Let’s all band together and build a wall around Chicago so the rest of us can be regular Americans.
Saw MM on Fox this a.m. with Greg Gutfeld. Michelle, I hope they request your services more and more since you’re a major story source for them!
I loved Greg’s comment this morning when they showed the NewsWEAK/Sarah-gun cover. He said something to the effect of: I’d rather vote for her to kill terrorists than a guy who was mentored by one.
On seeing that cover, my first thought was that it would be framed and on display in Mom ‘n Pop shops all over the country (next to the militant Flinchy & Mike cover from the New Yorker). Sarah is stunning, the essence of strength and self-reliance.
Why can’t the Dhims remember that even they gave up trying to abolish gun ownership (in their official platform) when it proved too popular with the electorate, and they slowly slithered away?
You can bet that cover is going to positively affect lots of Dhim gun owners.
Um…why would you assume that? Obama never knows what he;s talking about so why would we believe that his followers do?
Good grief, the man shoots one lawyer and you are upset. Newsflash–there is no shortage of lawyers–although this was one of two Republican lawyers. Chill imjustsaying.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
It is not a requirement to agree with every crazy liberal (or otherwise) idea that comes along.
NOOOOO, the woman was serious. She actualy thought you could shoot your foot off if you carried a “rifle” that way. The fact that she called a shotgun a “rifle” proves that she really is that clueless.
Yep, there’s no way this woman who spends her life commenting on shoes and handbags was sophisticated enough about guns to make a “rhetorical joke” like that.
I’m sure in this situation nyk wouldn’t know if the question was rhetorical joke or not – like she knows anything about the subject. sheesh!
I was up watching our own Ms. MM on Fox this AM too, and agree Fox News needs to use her more often – between O’Reilly and Hannity they must be going blind reading MM’s blogsite for ideas. It usually takes OR about two days to come off with the same story (providing it doesn’t come off as too controverial). I’m still reduced to watching Nancy Grace or reruns of The Rifleman rather than watch that boob. Guess the capper was his insistance on having a body-language expert on every time someone picks their nose!
This is Amazing – the economy is melting, Afghanistan is spiraling downward, Turkish troops are bombing Northern Iraq, the stock market just lost 1,800 points, unemployment is at a 5 year high – and what are we talking about?
A picture on the cover of a magazine.
Did you miss the other 10,000 links on the Malkin page?
you blame us for talking about it, but not the liberals who put it on the cover?? I thought the bailout ’saved’ us..hallelujah!!
happy days are here again!! your savior will be el presidente!!
what are you worried about??
They will never get it!
I missed that. But, I would like to go. I would enjoy shooting a full-auto sometime. I don’t care to own one, but would enjoy shooting one.
Ok, with a little cropping, I have a new desktop background. This will cause me to retire my artsy picture of a single malt.
hmmm… single malt to double barrel…. not sure about that transition!
Ya know, that brings me a good chuckle. I dont think the woman who wrote this article knows the difference between the barrel of a Colt 45 and a Abrams tank cannon barrel.
But i bet she can spot a fake Gucci bag at 150 paces in incliment weather during an Obama press event
The problem i have with your statement is that really…it doesnt sound like obvious sarcasm. It sounds like some shrill hollywood gossip columnist taking a shot at something more complex that lindsey lohan’s latest photo op. Had the tables been turned and a republican had made a joke like this, liberals would be clammering how stupid we all are as a result.
And yes, it was to get liberals all worked up over the picture. Why else show it?
Just saying.
That can go the other way, too. All of those things going on in the world, and Newsweek puts a picture of a woman holding a rifle, oops, shotgun.
And she could shoot her foot off that way!
Hmmmm. No. She looks completely ordinary. She looks like whats she says she is, soccer mom, joe six pack, just your every day Josephine. NOT someone extraordiary that you would want to be president or vice-president.
It’s just some gun porn for the Malkin readers, gosh darn it!
Well in other news:
We don’t want to open schools for kids who LIVE in the same community though…because they need to be bused around to ‘even’ things out after other schools get hosed up.
Good morning Ilovemycountry. Brush your teeth, comb your hair and go outside to play now and stop bothering the adults. Cookie and milk with a nap later you little munchkin.

You have totally nailed it. Exactly.
I’m glad you noticed that, because I’m sure that’s what blogger Elizabeth Snead thinks.
And I couldn’t think of a better role model for your daughter. She has great taste!
lgm jr.,
If you don’t like the topic of this one post of many on Michelle’s site, don’t click on it.
The hypocritical point of your little rant is that not only did you have the time to open this post, but also to add your comment. Shouldn’t you be elsewhere commenting about those topics you mentioned? What are you doing here? The world is clearly falling apart. You should be focused only on those topics you mentioned.
Ilovemycountry; Your in a disconnect mode. That’s not what we’re really talking about. It’s about the disconnected bias of the MSM sport.
Ellizabeth Snead… another “journalist” who is jealous that Sarah Palin can zip her jeans up a month or two after having a (fifth!) baby.
But give her some arugula and a teleprompter and you’re sold. Gotcha.
Not really. Were just having some fun with something we all know is not exactly a life and death issue (the cover of a MSM magazine).
What is amazing is that anybody more intelligent than 12 year old would be willing to let Barack Obama lead this country and be in charge of dealing with these problems.
and tell me what look does obama have that you think qualified him to be president and savior?
is it that haughty arrogant smirk of his? or the way he flipped off hillary with such schoolyard sublety? or does the fact the he has a D after his name on the ballot tell you all you need to know?
and tell me whats extraordinary about having a terrorist as a mentor, oh I know ayers is a hero to you libs, and being steeped in black liberation theology from a hate-filled rev?
That’s it. I just wanted to copy that.
Correct. You did forget the all important haughty look and condescending tone, though.
The conservatives are the ones with guns sport or maybe you really are the sport.
HE HE HE HE HA HA HA HA !!!!
Getting the NRA endorsement really has the libtard, dems and trolls bloomers in a bunch.
Ignore the ANGRY LEFT!!
It’s Killin em and
I Love it!!!
McCain/Palin 08′
All the videos of Obama playing basketball is, of course, vastly different and not at all intended to make him appear like an “every day Joseph”. /sarc
You also discount the notion that the Newsweek article is not in support of Gov. Palin, so it is not as though the McCain campaign engineered to have this on the cover.
Keep reaching.
You know, today was a day when I needed some comic relief, and who knew it would be the LA Times that would provide it? You rock, Elizabeth, because you’re such a moron!
If you do not know something, I suspect you would ask a question. Yes, sometimes the question is less than intelligent.
Since I do not know Gov Palin I will have to read the article.
Yet, here you both are… judging us -how ironic.
Darn it, Salt ruined my good day. Salt wrote:

If she is gonna continue avoiding press or avoid taking unscripted questions from press, I am gonna vote to Chuck Baldwin who is even endorsed by Ron Paul…
If she hesitates to answer MSM, then what can she answer Putin or Chavez or other thugs out there if needed arises?
It’s good to have ya back!
I didn’t write that.
I support Gov. Palin. I quoted the person that wrote that.
A picture on the cover of a magazine of the person we hope will get a chance to fix those problems.
Goooo Palin.
Want a cookie? I love it when liberals try to pass themselves off as conservatives.
She’s the VP, not that I don’t think she can handle it but that will not be her job. McCain will have to address them and we both know he is more than capable.
Welcome back, abstract
and aj? this one’s for you
30, here’s some important gun safety tips for you.
Study them, and I’ll test you tomorrow.
At least she didn’t call it an ASSAULT WEAPON, or a MACHINE GUN, or an AK-47.
Hi, nyk! I am really interested in your input on the ACORN story(s). Could you skip this pap and go over there?
Thanks!
Wouldn’t it be nice to have that photo AUTOGRAPHED?
Just some gun porn for Malkin readers? Yea, it’s a great picture for those that admire people who, after shooting a wild bird or animal, actually eat it, contrary to those that only shoot for a trophy to hang on their walls. IMHO, there is very little to admire in drive-by journalism, especially when flouting their own agenda.
I have a Big Horn Sheep mount, and a Walrus skull with attached tusks… didn’t eat a bite of them.. but sure have enjoyed them on the wall for many years.
Yes.. yes it is.
There should be a website or a telephone number where lefty “reporters” can get ahold of heterosexual males and ask them questions about guns and guys stuff. Working for NEWSWEEK, Elizabeth Snead doesn’t have an opportunity to talk to a knowledgeable person and stop these gaffes before she posts them.
It’s no wonder so many Americans are ignorant about what’s going on. They get their information from morons like Ms. Snead.
As opposed to asking the guys at Newsweek.
#72:
I didn’t say all of their readers are liberal, nor did Michelle. Michelle made the claim that they were trying to freak out their liberal readers. Those liberal readers – whether they are 1, 100, or 1000 – weren’t going to vote for her anyway. I think some are looking for something that just isn’t there.
Rob, if you shoot well enough to have taken the Big Horn sheep, then I have to give you kudos. I once had a physical therapist that had a very rare stuffed bird on his office shelf – the guy was totally against gun ownership and a vegetarian to boot! He never saw the irony. Yes, I do know many ranchers that have bear rugs (with the big old head laying there for anyone to trip over) they’ve taken in defense of their animals and property, and I have no problem with those. They did eat the best cuts and fed the rest to their dogs. It was recycled in the great scheme of things.
Ha!
I don’t see Sarah refusing to answer questions, but I do see Obama refusing. Check out the video of him dodging Stephanopoulous’ question about Ayers. Check out any other video of him refusing to answer questions, changing the subject to his safety zone “people are hurting” mantra.
I can’t wait until McCain does say everything to Obama’s face next week.
I’m glad people are standing up to the empty and formerly-scary cries of, “Raaaciiism!”.
It’s time. Sarah’s gonna make it happen.
This broad should, perhaps, follow this advice:
Stick to what you know.
It’s interesting that liberals harangue gun-toting Americans for owning all forms of guns which they think contributes to gun violence. No, the only people who contribute to gun violence are CRIMINALS, not responsible gun owners.
This chick sounds a lot like my self-involved, I hate guns, I hate children, except if I can use them as props to make a point, liberal sister-in-law.
If it were up to liberals, we wouldn’t have a military or a second ammendment. There is such a cultural gulf between pacificists and traditionalists who hunt and want to protect themselves. Liberals don’t know how to do for themselves, yet they laugh at people like Sarah Palin who can take down a moose (very hard to do), and provide meat for their families for the winter.
Is this woman going to laugh at the Inuit peoples for hunting seals and whales whose meat they live off on through the winter too?
Ha! Those LAT comments were funny (because they were true).
Palin-tol-ogy—is that like the Bush Doc-trine? The Obama and McCain Doc-trines?
I haven’t said this yet about her, but she looks pretty hot in that picture. Is it wrong of me to say that? At least I’m not fawning over her body parts.
Sounds just like MY SIL!
Nailed it.
On. The. Head.
I think Palin’s hunting for sport nonsense exposes the blatant contradiction in her apparent “pro-life” stance. She claims to be “pro-life”, but finishes up the day killing defenceless animals from a helicopter. It’s just another brazen contradiction that Republicans refuse to acknowledge
The only double barreled rifle I know of is the very rare .600 caliber Nitro Express elephant rifle–which had the power of a modern .50 caliber machine gun round. A second shot was nice on a wounded elephant–if the first shot did not break your shoulder with the extreme recoil.
But who cares–when the O’Bummer takes over we will no longer need any knowledge of arcane military stuff. When his pre-emptive surrender policy kicks in we will only need a sign saying “THE U.S.A. QUITS”. Our enemies are licking their chops waiting for him to take over.
John Bibb
I’ve never understood why people panic over gun ownership in the United States. If it’s the law to own one, so be it. An anti-gun person would be better pressed into talking to his representative over changing the law than arguing with a hunter who only shoots deer. If you don’t look like a deer, you’re okay. However, illegal guns and the criminals who own them may never be confronted, at least not by a liberal.
Just my thoughts.
I knew there would be some PETA wacko come along and compare animals to humans. you’re sick and evil
btw: I’m a PETA person too (people eating tasty animals)
Of course it’s extrodinary for a political party to tout a candidate who has no executive experience, a far left radical, allies himself for many years with a nail-bomb throwing terrorist, and sits in the pew of a cess-spewing racist.
Do you really think ordinary people embrace a guy like this or is it they’re scared about the economy.
Veggies are what food eats.
She kills defenceless animals from a helicopter at night? In the frozen tundra to boot. PALIN ROCKS!!!!
Omu said:
Of course you don’t hunt. The weak don’t hunt. The weak have no clue what hunting is about. The weak are sheep who don’t think for themselves.
I bet those rounds go for $300 each.
More ignorance from the left.
It’s called predator control. But I wouldn’t expect you to know that and even if you did you would still say the same thing.
You mean like the Left and their tolerance?
That’s it, my bug spray’s going in the garbage.
Still have a container of bear sausage in the fridge. Scrump-dilly-icious! Just like Jimmy Dean! If Sarah home-brews, she’d be perfect!
A recent scientific study has shown that a lack of meat in the diet leads to a shrinking brain. Explains quite a lot.
Hmmm, so I don’t have a ‘right’ to wear my fur coat, but you simply must retain your ‘right’ to kill an unborn human baby? I wondered how long it would take for this argument to come up. What absolute bollocks.
Oh, and the first thing they come for is cigarette smokers. That’s the ‘test’; that’s the top of the slope.
Morons who go vegean usually run with the mantra, “tread lightly on the earth” but consider their poor, unhealthy diets will incur future medical care expenses beyond that of the diet of a sensible eating omnivore.
Vegans are actually a drag on society. They should grab a gun and go hunt.
Good one, Dexter!
What she said!
Omu #162
If that is the logic, then do you eat meat, eggs, consume any dairy product, or for that matter – vegetables? Veggies have DNA too. Every thing we eat deprives that source of it’s chance to reproduce. That lovely steak in the shrink-wrapped plastic carton in the supermarket included. Yes, I go to the supermarket and buy what we eat, simply because I don’t want to field dress something and cart it home, but hold those who do in great esteem. There are parts of Alaska where it would take you a week or more to tromp in there on foot. It takes a lot longer to put food on the table when you have to go out and actually hope/pray you get lucky that day.
Another short-sighted, clueless comment by someone taken in by the One. Still feel the effects of Obummer’s glow?
So we need someone to be “extraordinary” to be president now? Who says? The Constitution? Do you, like most Americans, ever truly think outside your neural tube? Do you need some freaking Elmer Gantry wannabe to promise you things that sound too good to be true?
You are truly clueless. Have you ever looked at history? This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen posted on MM’s blog. Are there rules to being president? So now, “ordinary” citizens can NOT be president? Are you for real?
What has become of this country? Are we now a freaking cult of personality where we need some egocentric maniac to become president because of his skin tone and charisma? What about Abe Lincoln? He never had a law degree and came from humble beginnings. He was a success. His leadership will never be matched by the likes of Obummer. Ever.
Do you want a leader, a cult icon, or a monarchy? We are not North Korea. Maybe you need to keep that in mind.

But give her some arugula and a teleprompter and you’re sold. Gotcha.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Wouldn’t that be a RUSH! Man, zooming along over the ground, low, wind pushing your skin back, zig-zagging wolf pack, rifle stock against your cheek, night scope over your eyes… RUSH! And then a wolf skin for the wall.. I want to gooooooo.
They will dismiss the vegetable argument. And they can go vegan. Want to hurt them? Critisize their wearing of leather. They can’t go to their little anarchist parties without their leather jacket and boots. Or their high fallutin’ society gigs without their Gucci handbag. They must have fashion!
Yeah. Uh huh. Right. Do you want a pacifier with that moral equivalency? What say you about tribes like the Inuit who hunt whales and seal (which is allowed by the federal government) so they have meat to live off of for the winter? What is wrong with living off of the land?
And that helicopter hunting crap you spout is the culling of overpopulated animal populations. Do you not understand that every year thousands of dear have to be culled because their overpopulated numbers strain the ecosystem? They’re doing it in Colorado. In New York. Hell, some dear populations are starving to death because they have to share too much of the same food source.
What the hell does hunting have to do with pro-life? Oh, that’s right. Nothing. You’re trying to change the subject.
Homer Simpson drool.
I don’t think CyberCipher’s dog would eat that carp.
The handbags must have a Che image or a “Serve the People” slogan on them to truly be considered chic.
This is another one of the lefts inventions about Palin. They state of alaska was culling wolves because they were decimating the wildlife in certian parts of alaska. Palin herself wasn’t actualy doing this on a regular basis, and in fact I can’t find anything that proves she has ever done it. Its a flat out lie from the left. AGAIN.
My thoughts exactly.
Yes Ma’am.
Document, document, document.

If vegans want to deprive me of my “right” to consume meat, wouldn’t bother me a bit to argue they shouldn’t eat vegetables or grains. Most of their argument is based on the school of thought that the less humans the better….thus, the support for killing human babies.
Omu:
Remember if you’re in the wilderness and you have to shot rabbits to survive make sure to eat the brains too!
