Judge rules Ohio Secretary of State violated federal election law; plus ACORN victim on tape
Remember what I wrote last month?
Well, there’s news breaking tonight — and it’s good news for election integrity. A federal district court judge has found Democrat Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner guilty of violating federal election laws. The ruling goes to the heart of the ACORN-centered voter fraud epidemic spreading across the country. This is the second judgment against Brunner. Here’s the press release from the Ohio GOP:
Court Finds Brunner in Violation of Federal Law
Secretary of State appeals ruling, fights effort to validate registrations(Columbus) – A federal court ruled tonight that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner violated federal election laws by not taking adequate steps to validate the identity of newly registered voters.
The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge George C. Smith called the identification breakdown “a serious problem” and ordered Brunner to immediately comply with federal requirements to match voter registration data with the information in the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Social Security Administration databases. The court accused Brunner of failing to provide county election administrators with “an effective way to access and review mismatches.” She immediately appealed the ruling.
“For some reason, Jennifer Brunner does not want these new registrations checked,” said Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine. “Her refusal to comply with federal law raises serious concerns about her ability to objectively oversee this election. It’s especially troubling in light of her connection to ACORN and that group’s stunning confession this week of fraudulent registration activity happening right here in Ohio.”
Brunner’s effort to fight the court order comes just two days after the Democrat activist group ACORN admitted to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections that the group engages in fraudulent voter registration activity.
Ohio ACORN officials “blamed the elections board for not scrutinizing ACORN’s suspicious cards,” claiming the group “can’t be expected to catch everything.”
ACORN is facing similar inquires in other Ohio counties as well as 10 other states. Members of the group’s “voter-mobilization arm,” Project Vote, regularly advise Brunner on election strategy, even recently issuing a news release that claims credit for Brunner’s directive restricting challenges to suspected fraudulent voter registrations. Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama also has strong ties to ACORN, working previously as an attorney and “leadership trainer” for the group.

The Columbus Dispatch, 5/9/07: In what might be a Franklin County first, a Reynoldsburg man was indicted yesterday for voting twice in the November election. … [An attorney] said Gilbert was registered in both counties by ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a nonprofit agency that has come under fire in 12 states for voter fraud.
Associated Press, 9/20/06: The mother of a 16-year-old has told the Summit County elections board that her daughter was registered to vote, just two months after a 10-year-old boy was summoned for jury duty because he was on the county’s voter rolls. …The board plans to issue subpoenas to the girl and the person who filed the voter registration application, Prentice McNary of Akron, a circulator paid by Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, [board director Bryan] Williams said.
The Columbus Dispatch, 9/1/06: Concerns about bogus names increased recently as Franklin County Elections Board staffers questioned the validity of hundreds of names on registration forms and petitions for a proposed constitutional amendment to boost Ohio’s minimum wage. Most of the disputed names came from lists provided by paid solicitors working for ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
The Columbus Dispatch, 8/30/06: Franklin County elections officials plan to issue subpoenas to paid solicitors suspected of forging hundreds of signatures on ballot-issue petitions and voter-registration forms. … Most have come from people paid by ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which was blamed for similar problems with voter-registration forms in 2004.
The Plain Dealer, 8/11/06: Potentially fraudulent voter registration cards have turned up in at least three Ohio counties, and 500 have been turned over to a prosecutor to determine if a crime has been committed. Matt Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, said the 500 cards his office referred to County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien Wednesday were collected between March and July by workers for ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/23/04: Cuyahoga County election officials are investigating more than a thousand possible fraudulent voter registrations – including one for Jive Turkey Sr. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday that the name is one in a string of fake names on new voter rolls. Others include Dick Tracy, Mary Poppins and Michael Jordan in Defiance County.
The Columbus Dispatch, 9/8/04: A part-time worker signing up new voters for a local community group has been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on charges he forged a registration form. … The charges stem from an investigation that began in May after the Franklin County Board of Elections discovered dozens of voter registration forms with fake names or false information. They were submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which paid workers bonuses based on the number of voters they registered.
The Columbus Dispatch, 6/3/04: A nonprofit group registering low-income and minority voters in Franklin County has fired two temporary workers thought to be the source of fake names and forged signatures on official registration forms. ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also has agreed to perform extra checks on forms turned in by its voter-registration workers before submitting them to the Franklin County Board of Elections, the group’s head organizer said yesterday.

For about two weeks, I’d been trying to verify that Brunner’s office was actually comparing the new voter registrations to an outside source, either the BMV or the SS databases. My phone calls to the Secretary of State’s office this week have not been returned.
Both Ohio law and the Help America Vote Act require that new voter registrations be compared to an outside, independent database in order to verify the identity of the voter. I’d been told that the connection between the Secretary of State’s database and those outside agencies was either not operation or had been removed.
In light of ACORN’s admission to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections that the group engages in fraudulent voter registration activity, the independent verification of identities by the SOS office is critical to ensuring a fair and honest election in Ohio.

After circling the block numerous times and searching for the address, we were finally pointed to the office by a post office employee. None of the volunteers were able to speak with us, but they put us on the phone with Charles Dickens (a national organizer?) and he told us that no local volunteers or employees could speak with the media.”

Why is it that this story is only being covered by Michelle and FOX news? I would think that the whole country even the MSM would be outraged at voter fraud. I guess I don’t know my country as well as I thought I did. I guess if it was the GOP then they would be outraged.
Amazingly enough, I actually saw Anderson Cooper on CNN talking about ACORN tonight. I was impressed. Second time in two weeks I’ve actually seen him cover a story unappealing to Obama. He even mentioned Obama’s $800,000 donation to ACORN!
The other one he did was an excellent story on the Ayers connection – better than I’ve seen anywhere else actually.
Seriously, Anderson Cooper is probably the only guy on CNN worth watching, and when he decides to cover a story, he really does do a thorough job, even if it’s unfavorable to Obama. Very refreshing.

I live in Ohio and have been also approached numberous times by them and other vote collectors.
Some have been honest some less so. Cant say I have seen direct illegality because I give them honest answers to their questions.
But is no doubt they are out there
Need to add they dont always say they are collecting Voter enrollment data.
Many times they have come up to me with issue oreinted legislation (Minimum Wage, Legalized gambling, ect… ) and ask me to sign a form supporting such legislation. That way they can get info from me without tying it to voter registration.

Alas, McCain seems to miss so much. I admit that have never been a fan but when looking at how poorly organized his campaign is and how he lacks any coherent message I am shocked. This reminds me of George HW Bush’s and Bob Dole’s campaigns in 1992 and 1996 respectively.
Bush the elder basically came out with a theme of “things aren’t so bad and they might get better.” We all know how that worked for him. Dole’s major theme was “Bob Dole likes to talk about Bob Dole in the 3rd person.” That didn’t work as well as he hoped either.
Bush waged an effective campaign in 2000 but nearly lost it. But, there were strong conservative themes or at least issues at stake.
What exacly is McCain’s theme? “I’m been very much like them over the past 20 years and I’ll be very much like them if you elect me. Oh, and I have more experience at experience than them, who I am very much like.”
Who is running the campaign? Is any body running the campaign? What is his message? “I’m against pork except when it comes in REALLY HUGE QUANTITIES!”
This is insanity. Why fight for a nomination when you have no intention of winning the general election? I don’t get it….
I disagree, bayou22, as Barak H. Obama’s history and associations are all very important: Ayers, ACORN, Rezko, Raines, Wright, and Odinga; his college transcripts that he refuses to make public,his trip to Pakistan as a student in 1981, his recent trip to Iraq, and his trip to Kenya in 2007.
All radical associations and incidents are important and most were not covered by the mainstream media.
People need to know who they are voting for, and Obama remains a blank slate (or empty suit) who recreates himself when he needs to.

99% of Ohioans didn’t know about Brunner and just mindlessly ignored or cast a vote for her, as so many do in these state and local contests.
I know you mean well, bayou22, but this is the first legitimate media scrutiny of the Ayers issue. Not only should he not let up, but McCain should subtly keep it up and remind about Wright, Rezko, and Odinga, the last of which I think might be the deal-breaker a lot of moderates need to sever ties from the Chosen One. Sarah had a great rally here in Wilmington, OH, and she should be the one on point, since she has the least to lose and has the most fervor in his argument.
Here’s the deal – I’m getting married this weekend, then heading down to Mexico for a week. The last vacation I took, it was to Vegas right before Palin was announced. I’m hoping if I leave the country some sort of ultimate game-changer might be unleashed (i.e. the truth). Stupid logic, I know, but with journalism dead, straws are all I have to grasp at at this point.
P.S. I echo a previous poster and say kudos to Anderson Cooper, along with Mark Halperin, for daring some criticism, albeit 11th-hour, of the Messiah. Journalism may be dead, but flickers of its rebirth might still be seen in this dark night.
I’m going to give credit … I think txvet might have a point when he says McCain’s only goal was to win the Rep nom out of spite for 2000. For our country’s sake, I hope it’s not true, and that he finally grows a pair in this last month. The last debate will be the last test we can give him. If he lays down like a lamb before the slaughter as he has the last two debates, we have to hope for a Hail Mary. If he comes out swinging and lays down every last criticism we have put forth, he may have a puncher’s chance. As it stands, I’m not hopeful … but we’ll see.

Lindsay, I completely agree. I just think the Ayers thing is losing steam and that this ACORN issue is something that will resonate with voters given the litigious threats of the past few elections. Voters have no patience for fraud and this will give him an interested audience. Once this takes root (and it will becasue Obama can’t explain it away – its his calling card “community organizer”), McCain can then circle back with all the shady, dishonest associations you mentioned make people realize they should be saying, “You know what, maybe we should look closer…”
There are no undecided voters. Just a bunch of short-term thinkers.
Gonna be tough. Obama has a huge office on 2nd street and Moveon set up on 5th street. I have even been contacted by ACORN itself in this area about their operations.

The Base and the area in this part of Ohio outside of dayton usually goes big for Turner. Plus he use to be mayor of the city and has some contacts there as well.
Being from West Virginia know all about voting irreluarities why I caught on to the ACORN story years ago.
I think the most important story NOT being covered is all the foreign money the Obama campaign is getting. And its not directly its to groups like ACORN that get lots of money as a “non profit” that slides under the radar.
ACORN got I think I read at least 80 million from the US government alone in the past few years. As well as millions elsewhere in donations.
They can get a list of names of illegal aliens from the Community Re-Development Loans obtained with stolen Social security numbers–Five million of them by today’s count.
Those ACORN pikers are short by at least four million.

I went to Wright State so I know the base area well. Wasn’t that long ago we had Tony Hall (D) representing this area, although he seemed like the decent Dem sort, not the frothing at the mouth kind.

It’s high time we institute immediate punishment for these criminals.
Our government is letting radicals get away with murder.
This is the “end justifies the means” mentality in full effect. Getting Obama into office is the greatest good in these people’s minds; therefore, they feel justified in doing whatever it takes to get him there, even if that means breaking the law. This is what happens when absolute truth is questioned and moral relativism takes hold of a society, which takes us back to Antonio Gramsci’s “cultural hegemony” concept. Marxist followers have whittled away at God, the Absolute Law Giver, in the minds of people in our society, which results in relativism’s ability to take hold. It started with the “Enlightenment”, which attempted to destroy God philosophically in the minds of people. Then came macro-evolution, which attempted to alleviate the need for a Creator, hence no need for God. Because, in their minds, if God did not exist and man evolved from dirt, then man’s inherent value decreased. In this world view, man has no value, has no purpose, has no hope for anything beyond this life.
Value: We see this in the way we treat the issue of abortion. Even with Palin, we see her and her daughter’s “tough” decisions to carry their babies full term. In this, they’ve ceded their position to the supremacy of the doctrine of choice. Kennedy v. Louisiana is another example of life’s diminished value.
Purpose: How many kids and folks in their 20′s (and even older) wandering around aimlessly without any sense of purpose in their lives? What else would explain for the deification of people like Obama? Of many of the world’s dictators, past and present? Global warming? People need a cause and will hunt their whole lives for it, but alas, without God, will forever be unsatisfied, but that’s another story. Also consider, if there is no God to provide us with purpose, then who will? Ourselves perhaps? “The will to power”? Again, a very unfulfilling, uncharitable, and often dangerous concept.
Hope: How else could we explain the complete and utter lack of parenting in this country? If this life is all there is, and our children are nothing more than evolved dirt like we are, then why invest anything in them as the future generation? What’s to gain for ourselves? Also, if there is no afterlife, then, back to the “will to power” point, I guess we should do all we can to live it up now, right? I see that thought process isn’t working out very well either, considering that our credit-based society (which is a relatively new concept in our culture) is failing us miserably.
Then came the 1960s and beyond, where the full effect of such thinking began to show itself physically. We saw the deterioration of the morality, slowly at first, which led to the focus on destroying the family. With the family out of the way, Marxist thinking could be taught in the “public” school system without fear of encroachment by parents. We were taught to believe that teachers know best, not our parents. The media, the greatest weapon of Marxist thinking, taught us to believe that our parents know nothing and that their morals were wrong. This destroyed Christian ethics in society, leading also to the “entitlement” society, whose logical conclusion is socialism. I could go on, but you probably get the idea. Our struggle here is not a legal one, a physical one, or one for this election: it’s a struggle of culture and ideas.
The description for ACORN Headquarters sounds just like the location of CONTROL Headquarters in the original “Get Smart” in the 1960′s…very surreal.
I’m having a major problem understanding why anyone would accept a Kleenex from an ACORN worker, let alone a voter registration. It’s like letting a pedophyle take pictures at a grade-school… it’s stupid, it’s illegal, and it can only end badly.
The restraining order needs to be against voter registrations obtained (created out of thin air) by ACORN.
I urge everyone to call their Congress critters in the morning and make sure they know that YOU know all about ACORN (especially Ohio!), Obama’s ties, and ask them what the heck they plan to do about this travesty.

Jimmy Carter is still working hard on establishing some sort of positive legacy before he dies. He’s still under the delusion that if he talks to more dictators or build more homes, he will be a hero in our history books. Of course, he might be right, under the new world order. I wonder what reward these Acorn people expect under the socialism that they want. I guess they feel that they will become members of the “elite”, over and above the masses and exempt from the new rules of society. They will be in for a surprise. “Useful Idiots”.
Nixon didn’t contest Kennedy stealing the election because he was young enough to run again. But, in this case, if McCain does not contest the voter fraud that is apparently happening in plain sight, then he hasn’t the will to fight. Which, unfortunately his frustrated voters have seen — and have literally begged him to reverse.

ACORN may be the bigger issue, at least the one getting the most traction. But we don’t let anything go. BroBama’s association with William Ayres along with his wife Bernardine Dohrn, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, Rashid Khalidi-a former PLO operative are all fair game and useful. If Beltway John won’t use it then we must. This race could be very tight- a few hundred votes in one state could swing it.
Give away nothing even if Beltway John does–not for McCain’s sake but for us and ours AND Governor Palin future as a candidate. Being a losing VP candidate is not a good thing.

My son is a student at VT and he said students there are constantly hounded about registering to vote “for Obama”. He’s offended by their heavy-handed tactics. I told him it’s what democrats do best.
We MAY need to do it again?
I’d say it’s a long time coming, and given the sad state of affairs, it may be too little too late.

Why doesn’t MSM cover Acorn or Ayers?
I think may people know in past presidential elections the DC press corps votes 80 to 90% Democrat. Not news at all, and they have always been biased.
But this year, they are absolutely in the tank for Obama.
Mark Steyn, on Hugh Hewitt’s show, sounding angrier than I’ve ever heard him, has a theory. “Old Media” is dying. Losing listeners/readers to the internet and talk radio. His theory, old media is pushing Obama heavily, as a defensive move.
Pelosi and Obama will almost certainly bring back the ‘Fairness Doctrine’. They will likely try to regulate both talk radio and the internet. With “Old Media”s competition hobbled, they will return to prominence.
The ever sanguine Hugh Hewitt said he isn’t worried, a First Amendment friendly SCOTUS wouldn’t allow it.
That was pretty much the end of the segment.
I’m not so sure Hewitt should be so optimistic, as he is one of the radio talkers the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ would probably shut down. When a board of Democrat appointed fairness bureaucrats mandate radio stations offer equal time for low ratings/low ad revenue ‘Air America’ type hosts, Limbaugh and Hannity probably have enough profit to be kept on, but does any of the Salem Radio Network talkers have enough audience to cover an equal number of hours of no revenue lib babblers? A lot of local stations may go under, or at least change format. BTW, the Dem bureaucrats may decide CNN and MSNBC and the networks are balanced, but “Faux News” is too conservative, and force changes on to that network.
BTW, the Supreme Court is four progressives/judicial legislators, four Constitutionalists, and Justice Kennedy, who vacations in Europe and likes to be popular with the cocktail party circuit. Toss up. If Kennedy or the four Constitutionalists need replacing during an Obama term, it is a 5-4 or 6-3 Marxist majority on every major case.
Not to mention the drooling doddering justices, like Ginsberg, will likely step down so Obama can appoint a much younger fellow traveller who will be rubber stamped in the Senate.
But, it does explain tossing journalistic standards in the toilet. They see an Obama/Pelosi government as saving “Old Media” by crippling “New Media”.

This is a complete farce. Every single registration from submitted by ACORN should be removed from the register and destroyed. If Obama wins, there is grounds here to call a new election and have every citizen in the entire country re-register to vote.
That girl who registered multiple times should be prosecuted. The Acorn worker who admitted she tells them to register and vote for Obama should be thrown in jail (what’s the bet she destroys any registrations that aren’t for Obama too). This is disgusting.

Voter fraud is Democrat strategy. Why they push for motor voter, no-ID voting, same day registration and voting. Why they push for giving the franchise to convicted felons.
Washington state has a Dem governor via voter fraud. Bob Dornan lost his Orange County Congressional district to illegal aliens voting early and often.
The greatest single determinant on how one votes is regular attendance at worship services. Even groups that traditionally vote Dem, likes Blacks and Jews, if they attend services, they are more likely to vote GOP than the secular members of their ethnic group, even if they are still more likely to vote Dem than Republican overall.
If one does not believe in a higher moral authority than one’s own whims, then the ends do always justify the means.

O/T – I just read this article from IBD and decided to call Barney Frank’s office to ask when he was going to resign from Congress and the person that answered the phone hung up on me. Thinking I may have just dropped the call I called back and asked “did you just hang up on me?” and the guy said “I sure did”. He must be getting a lot of calls.

Can you imagine what kind of mayhem would be happening if ACORN was a Republican-sponsored group? This would be front page on every paper in the country, headline news on every channel accusing the Republicans of buying the election, there would be riots from leftist groups in every major city, Bush would be under impeachment, McCain would be getting dragged through the courts.. and that would just be the tip of the iceberg. I actually feel physically ill – not from worrying about the socialist regime that we might be heading into, but because we’re already living it in this case.
I hope McCain uses that ‘the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree’ line on obama on the next debate. In fact, McCain should just completely ignore the rules (just like Obama does) and launch a tsunami of attacks on obama – the only problem is that there’s just so many things wrong with obama, which scandal should McCain start with!
