Judge rules Ohio Secretary of State violated federal election law; plus ACORN victim on tape
Remember what I wrote last month?
Well, there’s news breaking tonight — and it’s good news for election integrity. A federal district court judge has found Democrat Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner guilty of violating federal election laws. The ruling goes to the heart of the ACORN-centered voter fraud epidemic spreading across the country. This is the second judgment against Brunner. Here’s the press release from the Ohio GOP:
Court Finds Brunner in Violation of Federal Law
Secretary of State appeals ruling, fights effort to validate registrations(Columbus) – A federal court ruled tonight that Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner violated federal election laws by not taking adequate steps to validate the identity of newly registered voters.
The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge George C. Smith called the identification breakdown “a serious problem” and ordered Brunner to immediately comply with federal requirements to match voter registration data with the information in the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Social Security Administration databases. The court accused Brunner of failing to provide county election administrators with “an effective way to access and review mismatches.” She immediately appealed the ruling.
“For some reason, Jennifer Brunner does not want these new registrations checked,” said Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman Kevin DeWine. “Her refusal to comply with federal law raises serious concerns about her ability to objectively oversee this election. It’s especially troubling in light of her connection to ACORN and that group’s stunning confession this week of fraudulent registration activity happening right here in Ohio.”
Brunner’s effort to fight the court order comes just two days after the Democrat activist group ACORN admitted to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections that the group engages in fraudulent voter registration activity.
Ohio ACORN officials “blamed the elections board for not scrutinizing ACORN’s suspicious cards,” claiming the group “can’t be expected to catch everything.”
ACORN is facing similar inquires in other Ohio counties as well as 10 other states. Members of the group’s “voter-mobilization arm,” Project Vote, regularly advise Brunner on election strategy, even recently issuing a news release that claims credit for Brunner’s directive restricting challenges to suspected fraudulent voter registrations. Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama also has strong ties to ACORN, working previously as an attorney and “leadership trainer” for the group.

The Columbus Dispatch, 5/9/07: In what might be a Franklin County first, a Reynoldsburg man was indicted yesterday for voting twice in the November election. … [An attorney] said Gilbert was registered in both counties by ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a nonprofit agency that has come under fire in 12 states for voter fraud.
Associated Press, 9/20/06: The mother of a 16-year-old has told the Summit County elections board that her daughter was registered to vote, just two months after a 10-year-old boy was summoned for jury duty because he was on the county’s voter rolls. …The board plans to issue subpoenas to the girl and the person who filed the voter registration application, Prentice McNary of Akron, a circulator paid by Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, [board director Bryan] Williams said.
The Columbus Dispatch, 9/1/06: Concerns about bogus names increased recently as Franklin County Elections Board staffers questioned the validity of hundreds of names on registration forms and petitions for a proposed constitutional amendment to boost Ohio’s minimum wage. Most of the disputed names came from lists provided by paid solicitors working for ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
The Columbus Dispatch, 8/30/06: Franklin County elections officials plan to issue subpoenas to paid solicitors suspected of forging hundreds of signatures on ballot-issue petitions and voter-registration forms. … Most have come from people paid by ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which was blamed for similar problems with voter-registration forms in 2004.
The Plain Dealer, 8/11/06: Potentially fraudulent voter registration cards have turned up in at least three Ohio counties, and 500 have been turned over to a prosecutor to determine if a crime has been committed. Matt Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, said the 500 cards his office referred to County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien Wednesday were collected between March and July by workers for ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
Cincinnati Enquirer, 10/23/04: Cuyahoga County election officials are investigating more than a thousand possible fraudulent voter registrations – including one for Jive Turkey Sr. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday that the name is one in a string of fake names on new voter rolls. Others include Dick Tracy, Mary Poppins and Michael Jordan in Defiance County.
The Columbus Dispatch, 9/8/04: A part-time worker signing up new voters for a local community group has been indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on charges he forged a registration form. … The charges stem from an investigation that began in May after the Franklin County Board of Elections discovered dozens of voter registration forms with fake names or false information. They were submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which paid workers bonuses based on the number of voters they registered.
The Columbus Dispatch, 6/3/04: A nonprofit group registering low-income and minority voters in Franklin County has fired two temporary workers thought to be the source of fake names and forged signatures on official registration forms. ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also has agreed to perform extra checks on forms turned in by its voter-registration workers before submitting them to the Franklin County Board of Elections, the group’s head organizer said yesterday.

For about two weeks, I’d been trying to verify that Brunner’s office was actually comparing the new voter registrations to an outside source, either the BMV or the SS databases. My phone calls to the Secretary of State’s office this week have not been returned.
Both Ohio law and the Help America Vote Act require that new voter registrations be compared to an outside, independent database in order to verify the identity of the voter. I’d been told that the connection between the Secretary of State’s database and those outside agencies was either not operation or had been removed.
In light of ACORN’s admission to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections that the group engages in fraudulent voter registration activity, the independent verification of identities by the SOS office is critical to ensuring a fair and honest election in Ohio.

“We also stopped by the Acorn office in Columbus to see if we could get a comment. After circling the block numerous times and searching for the address, we were finally pointed to the office by a post office employee. (It was down a staircase in a hidden location with very little signage.) None of the volunteers were able to speak with us, but they put us on the phone with Charles Dickens (a national organizer?) and he told us that no local volunteers or employees could speak with the media.”

This is a complete farce. Every single registration from submitted by ACORN should be removed from the register and destroyed. If Obama wins, there is grounds here to call a new election and have every citizen in the entire country re-register to vote.
That girl who registered multiple times should be prosecuted. The Acorn worker who admitted she tells them to register and vote for Obama should be thrown in jail (what’s the bet she destroys any registrations that aren’t for Obama too). This is disgusting.
I feel like my right to vote has been taken away from me, because it has been rendered ineffective by these thousands of fraudulent registrations.
Voter fraud is Democrat strategy. Why they push for motor voter, no-ID voting, same day registration and voting. Why they push for giving the franchise to convicted felons.
Washington state has a Dem governor via voter fraud. Bob Dornan lost his Orange County Congressional district to illegal aliens voting early and often.
The greatest single determinant on how one votes is regular attendance at worship services. Even groups that traditionally vote Dem, likes Blacks and Jews, if they attend services, they are more likely to vote GOP than the secular members of their ethnic group, even if they are still more likely to vote Dem than Republican overall.
If one does not believe in a higher moral authority than one’s own whims, then the ends do always justify the means.

Ed, I think you have identified their motives. Money, power and relevancy. They do not have integrity so they must create it falsely.
O/T – I just read this article from IBD and decided to call Barney Frank’s office to ask when he was going to resign from Congress and the person that answered the phone hung up on me. Thinking I may have just dropped the call I called back and asked “did you just hang up on me?” and the guy said “I sure did”. He must be getting a lot of calls.
I got straight through so if you want to harass the crook call him @ 202-225-5931.
Can you imagine what kind of mayhem would be happening if ACORN was a Republican-sponsored group? This would be front page on every paper in the country, headline news on every channel accusing the Republicans of buying the election, there would be riots from leftist groups in every major city, Bush would be under impeachment, McCain would be getting dragged through the courts.. and that would just be the tip of the iceberg. I actually feel physically ill – not from worrying about the socialist regime that we might be heading into, but because we’re already living it in this case.
I hope McCain uses that ‘the acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree’ line on obama on the next debate. In fact, McCain should just completely ignore the rules (just like Obama does) and launch a tsunami of attacks on obama – the only problem is that there’s just so many things wrong with obama, which scandal should McCain start with!

Someone above said the Ayers thing may be losing steam. It should be the duty of every Republican to DEMAND that our state Republican committees modify their rules to make all primaries closed from now on.
Also I would push to change voter registration laws to prohibit party affiliation changes within 6 months prior to a primary election.

The issue is the economy. That’s all that is making the news. People are worried about their jobs. There are some people who will gladly surrender in Iraq and Afghanistan if they were promised that they would still have a job or a way to provide for their family.
And that’s just the kind of lie Obama would sell to get elected.
I agree for the most part. McCain needs to focus on Ayers’ more recent activities. McCain should bring up Ayers as an educational radical during the debate, and tie Obama to that(Obama spent $100 million in Chicago schools with no improvement, indoctrination over education, etc).

I know you are extremely busy right now doing everything you can to shift blame for the nation’s economy, but when you do get back to pretending to work on the nation’s problems, try this.
How about a federal law that would require photo ID before all voting takes place. Felony jail time for anyone who votes more than once or facilitates improper voting/registering. Any organized efforts to commit voter fraud results in personal fine and jail time for the leader of the local organization. Any national organization that commits fraud loses all funding and the national heads go to jail.
State and local governments that allow ineligible voters to vote lose federal funding at all levels. If a pattern of abuse is discovered, then that should result in jail time.
It has been said that the right to vote is one of the most sacred rights. Now is the time to put your money where your mouth is and establish real reform. How’s that for Change I Can Believe In?
Listen SD – I’ve lived long enough to know we will overcome this. We’ve lived through things such as this in the past – we will do it again. With all the talk about the pros and cons on our economy over the years – do not presume to tell me what is important to me. I heard this comment this morning on Fox news – that all anybody cares about is the economy. My first thought was to ask someone who isn’t wet behind the ears with a little more “life experience.”
The issue is bigger than the economy – the economy will take it’s hits, I’m concerned with much bigger issues. If an individual is 35 years or younger, all they may care about is their “standard of living” and their credit score..those of us who have been there done that, see a bigger picture. It won’t be comfortable, it may even get painful…but it will pass.

The fix for this problem should be easy.
Require voter registration to be done in person and the town clerk’s office. Require proof of identity, age, and address, just like applying for a driver’s licence.
Require requests for absentee ballots to be done in person with the same documentation requirements as registering.
Require the same proof of eligibility at the voting booth.
The only exceptions are to be made for those people in the military, government employees who work abroad, and those physically unable to make it to city hall to apply in person.
Correct. People are looking for a president with integrity. Expose Obama’s hypocrisy and he will lose.

Some people will vote for Obama because of his race. Some people will vote against Obama because of his race. Some people will vote for Obama because he promised them some of our money. Some people will vote against Obama because he will take our money to give it to other people. None of that has to do with integrity as an issue of its own accord.
You do realize, of course, the many folks will keep their blinders on and deny that the Democrats, ACORN, and the Chosen One would never, I repeat, never stoop to such deceitful tactics because he’s just so wonderful that everyone will vote for him.
The other side of the coin is that they feel justified in using such tactics because, in their minds, those EEEvil Republicans and conservatives used voter and/or election fraud to enable Pres. Bush’s wins in 2000 and 2004.

As a Republican, the very few times I’ve voted Democrat it was because they were running against a corrupt Republican who I’d rather not have in my party to begin with, so I have to point out that you are misinterpreting who I am and why I ask the questions I do.
We can only win by speaking to undecided voters about what currently matters to them. What matters to them is the economy. McCain ignores making that his primary topic right now at his own electoral peril.

The economy IS an issue that need to be addressed front and center, not ACORN. ACORN is a legal matter that needs to be adressed by the police. It won’t sway voters as much as straight talk about the economy will.

I still think Michelle Obama’s comment the other day in an interview is typical of what the democrats really truly think…”Who cares what happened 40 years ago?” Also, last night on Jay Leno, he said to one of his guests (I paraphrase), “I guess Obama had an encounter with Ayers when he was 8 years old or something and that is supposed to be big news.” Seriously, no one really understand the gravity of the issue or who Obama really is, and they don’t care!

It does make sense, so let me explain it some more. You have listened to enough information to know that you will vote for one person over the other. If (barring the live boy/dead girl scenario) you were swayed by what news came tomorrow, then you aren’t really decided to being with.
There is no way I will ever vote for Obama because he is a socialist and also because of Wright and Ayers. But I made that decision the day Obama was nominated, not recently. The economy isn’t going to change my mind. I stopped listening to Obamas arguments. Now instead I speak about why we need to elect McCain (and especially Sarah Palin). But if I don’t start talking about the economy, those who are not decided will not listen for long.
Certainly not people who worry about losing their jobs today.

We HAVE been telling them the truth, although I admit it hasn’t been articulated very well. I know that most of them have made up their minds and facts don’t interest them. The masses in this country just will follow Obama over the cliff, worshipping him all the way down to the bottom.

This story continues to get very little coverage in Columbus, Ohio. The Dispatch has a single article on it and I’ve been listening to 610 WTVN on the radio most of the day. Nothing, and they have news updates every half hour.
The lone article title in the Dispatch is, “Brunner loses lawsuit to GOP”, instead of something like say…oh, I don’t know…”Judge rules Brunner is breaking Federal law.”
The Ohio Secretary of State web page has a biography of Jennifer Brunner . It is full of laughs like these quotes:
“Jennifer Brunner has pledged elections for Ohio that are free, fair, open and honest. She has made it a top goal to ensure confidence in Ohio’s elections.”
“…past experience as a member of the Franklin County Board of Elections and work as a special prosecutor for election fraud clearly demonstrate her ability to be an effective and fair Secretary of State.”
Now, doesn’t that reassure you that she will be an honest and fair Secretary of State for Ohio?

The 3:00pm report on 610 WTVN (Columbus, Ohio) talked about the Obama campaign being in Columbus, Palin visiting a couple cities in Ohio, Wall Street numbers, and a convicted killer who won’t be given a stay of execution in Ohio.
No mention of the 800 pound gorilla. Again.
It’s absolutely pathetic that I watch/listen/read the Columbus area news and the national news, and the only way I would’ve even known about this story is by reading this blog.

This is the first time in a long time that I have been registered to vote. With all of this voter fraud BS, it makes me wonder if MY vote is gonna count.
Also, if I were a sneaky dirtbag, I could have had ONE person in my household vote 3 TIMES for McCain because the voter registration office screwed his name up. But, alas, I called and corrected their mistake TWICE.
Just………….UGH.
The dems probably want people to get so discouraged by the fraud that they will think their voting won’t matter. We CAN’T let them get away with bumming us out. VOTE, no matter what!!! And remember, our senators need our votes too!! It is probably even more important to get back the majority in Congress.
Rush Limbaugh today said that Obama made a tactical error recently, but I wonder if anyone will pick up on it. He was referring to Ayers and he said, “I thought he had reformed.” Has anyone else heard that? If he said it, that means he KNEW about his past, was pals with him, and didn’t care that he was a terrorist. It also means he is lying about not knowing his past. And, if he thought Ayers was reformed, did he miss Ayers comments about “We didn’t do enough, we should have done more (bombing)”? Did he not see the picture of Ayers standing on our Flag? This man is not fit to be a street sweeper, leave alone President! Rush also compared Ayers to Timothy McVeigh. That is a name that should resonate with the American people. Ayers was 40 years ago. But he is in the same category as McVeigh, who was tried, convicted and executed. If Ayers had had a chance, he would have bombed something just as big as the Federal building in Oklahoma City.
