Reports: Supporter begs McCain to fight; McCain bungles the ball; Update: Some positive reviews added; plus vid link
Update…here’s the vid via Allah…
I am away from my office, so haven’t seen the video of this yet. But several readers are reporting on a frustrating exchange John McCain had with a passionate supporter in Waukesha, Wisconsin. McCain gets a softball — and bungles again.
Banging. Head. Against. Wall.
Commenter nyc123me:
CNNlive online covering McCain/Palin event in Wisconsin. A guy just got up and begged McCain to take it to Obama in the next debate regarding all his shady associations. The crowd went for it big time. McCain said ‘yes I will’ and immediately started about something else. I don’t believe he will.
Reader Jeff e-mails:
He did it, but he had to be goaded into it. Called out Barney Frank and Chris Dodd when someone asked if he was going to name names and call for investigations. And people shouting ACORN, until he responded strongly about investigating them before the election
Also some guy was so riled up about McCain doing something to fight the socialists – Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid!
Stephen Hayes at the Weekly Standard reports more details — including something that made me grit my teeth last night when I heard him say it on FNC last night. Quit saying you “don’t care” about Ayers’ terrorist record. Stop that!
In response to a broad question about how Barack Obama “got here” — presumably got his lead — John McCain didn’t name Bill Ayers but spoke of him directly. McCain said “We don’t care about an old washed up terrorist and his wife” who said earlier this decade that he wished they were more successfu. (Several in the crowd chanted: “Yes we do!”)
…The next question came from a black McCain supporter, who reminded McCain of the candidate’s plea at the convention for his supporters to do everything possible to ensure a victory. The supporter said: “I doubt that anyone has taken, pardon me, the ass-whoopin’ I have taken for doing that.” He then implored McCain to go after Barack Obama at the next debate and asked him to raise ACORN and Reverend Wright. “I am begging you, sir,” he said, as the crowd stood and applauded.
McCain, as my readers above noted, said “Yes, I will,” then hurriedly changed the topic.
We’re Screwed ‘08!

A commenter below thinks McCain did “fine.” But what does it tell you that the man has to be goaded and prodded and dragged into going on the offensive on ACORN/Ayers/Democrat Fannie-Freddie corruptocrats? It tells you what I’ve been saying out loud for quite some time — that McCain has always had much more of a stomach for taking own his own base than he has had for taking on the radical Left.
If there is a special medicine to cure him of this pathology, get him an IV drip of it, stat.
Question for discussion: Is it too little, too late?
Update: Rush Limbaugh has apparently played a few clips of the event and other readers are giving the answers positive reviews. Feel free to chime in.

That’s because McCain is too enamored with his “maverick” image. Reaching across the aisle and all that.
I went to McCain’s website and told them I dont want a maverick I cant trust, I want a conservative that will do right by this country. Wont do any good but it made me feel better.
Yes, we are screwed 08. Big time.
Guys:
I’ve moved the proposal for action to save the US Constitution to its own blog. That avoids the charge some here have emailed me about: I’m just using this to drive traffic to my Dad’s site. Also, as a single/function site, it will be more focused.
I did it so that we could kick it around, find the holes, bondo them, and then organize our selves to follow through, to fight these Socialist pond-scum.
We MUST deny this Dumbocrat/MSM alliance the victory this elect. They’re using treasonistic behavor. We’ve increasing amounts because we’ve never decisively slapped them down. Look at how Obie’s tipped his hand: the attacks on Political Free Speech. Imagine if Obie’s elected, the DOJ/IRS as an instrument to shut down all dissent!
This is the time! We must put aside ALL our differences and vote McDumb&Nasty/Sarah-AtleastShe’sConservative in!
This proposal will work! I’m certain of it, but if Limbaugh’s correct, (I know he’s Right, of course
), and the only way we’ll win is if we can drag McPleaseDon’tVote4Me kicking & screaming across the finish line, inspite of what we do we might lose it — & we get ObieDoh’s DOJ breaking us up, pulling down sites we use to organize.
That’s why we have to have a plan before the election. I’m talking about a modernday “Sons of Liberty” group, here! We might be able to avoid an internal war, AND re-Constitutionalize this government IF we organize NOW. Before TheOne’s DOJ, or Heaven forfend McAnti1stAmendment & any changes he tries to push on us!
I’m working from Dad’s rm via his PDA today, (and don’t know HTML yet) so I’ve just typed it in. Sorry! If it isn’t clickable, pls cut&paste. Give feedback, leave a comment & I’ll setup a mailing list!
Thanks!

Yep, it was the failout bill that Pelosi and Reid insisted Republicans vote for — with the blessing of Boehner AND McAmnesty. That smile on Cadaver Pelosi’s face when it passed negated the need for an election.
Saw an average of projected house and senate seats predicted for dems and they’re going to have a filibuster-proof majority. The sheeple rule.
We. Are. Doomed.
Which website is this? Every one I’ve gone to wants $$ and all your personal info to leave a message. I’d love to tell him what I think — namely, what would he do about the 5 million illegals who got bad loans that we’re paying for — you know, “all God’s (LaRaza) children.”
Pardon me, but: HORSECRAP!
The absolute worst thing we could do would be to screw our eyes tightly closed, and robot-like, vote for JohnnyNeverSawADumbocratHe’dNotRolloverFor!
It is a HARD CHOICE to hunker-down and vote LOTE 1 last time! It takes a Man to make the hard choices, but a Man also get all the intel he can beforehand.
If we paper over anything McDumb&Nasty is weak on, we’ll live to regret it! It will be a place of “soft-rot”, a point where the enemy can concentrate fire. And because we’ve “hoped it would go away”, we’ll be unprepared for the firefight!
During Carter, a hostage rescue left copters burning on the sand. Why? Because Carter let the JCOS know that any questions about His Plan would get the questioner fast-tracked to retirement… their career-ender stamped “Conduct Unbecoming”.
So, no I am sorry, you & others who fault MM for her work honestly reporting JM’s idiocy are as wrong as it is possible to be & still be on this side of the isle.
BELIEVE ME, I don’t like arguing to vote for that McAnti-Conservative! I’ve had to eat a lot of words to do it. I can only do it because I have been convinced beyond my bones that it is correct. But only if we keep at the lot of them afterwards!
We are in a covert war waged on the Founding Principles of our Republic. Most here realize this. Even though “McCan’tFindHisA$$WithBothHands,Mirrors,Spotters,A-Map,&GPS” doesn’t. The proof is he still feels the compulsion to keep reaching across the isle to destruction.
SO: we, each of us, must be his wingman. Work to setup the shots so he can make them: our targets, his shots & his glory. We can be effective only if we’re brutally honest about his boneheadedness!
Even if what you say is true, it was still better than Bush’s guaranteed deficits, that by the way, omit the hundreds of billions of dollars we’ve been wasting in Iraq every year.
I just don’t think that Herbert Hoover or FDR, having been in charge some 70 years ago, aren’t all that relevant to modern American politics. However, Republicans have been playing the same hand since Ronald Reagan, and even if I’m generous and only compare each party’s two most recent candidates, Clinton still blows Bush out of the water with regards to fiscal responsibility and limited government.
Another thing: comments claiming that reporting JM’s eye-pokes will drive away Conservatives strikes me as condesending in the extreme! What we aren’t competent/mature/smart enough to make a decision? Really? I’ve heard that view expressed before… by the MSM, I think, wasn’t it?
Present your arguements; forget castigating someone who’s actions have proved steadfast loyalty to the Ideals of The Founding Fathers!
Argue effectively! If your argument are sound and wieghty enough to strongly answer your detractors, know that since Conservatives decide things by thinking, not emoting, you’ll carry the day with us!
I was at the townhall in Waukesha yesterday, and no, it’s not too little and it’s not too late, in my opinion. There was a packed house yesterday, of enthusiastic McCain/Palin supporters, and lots of young people were there. When Sen. McCain talked about the mortgage bailout, there was some light applause, and a few boos, but everthing else was greeted with enthusiasm. The 3 big applause getters were a pro-life question, asking for abortion to be brought up at the next debate, a black gentleman, who asked for Rev. Wright and ACORN to be brought up at the debate, whose question got a lot of cheers and applause, but the biggie was the guy who was angry about socialism. The question totally rocked the house, yelling in agreement and thunderous applause from the crowd that went on and on, it was much louder and longer than the tape shows.
I thought Sen. McCain was effective and gave good answers on the whole. It was good to see him get riled up about voter fraud, I hope he lets more of that out at the next debate.
I didn’t hear any negative comments after the townhall, it’s my impression that people were pleased with what they heard and saw. A lot of people waited outside until McCain and Palin left, and they came over and shook some hands. I was hoping to get the chance to shake Senator McCain’s hand and thank him for his heroic service to our nation, but I was too far away.
Digshot ~
I’m surprised no one has mentioned in retort (at least that I saw) that although what you say about Republicans is true, conservatives have been shut out of government for the past 10 years. Each time a Republican is elected to office, conservatives hope and pray that they will actually implement a conservative agenda. Republicans, at least of late, seem to have no identifiable ideology, except of course retaining office like most hollow politicians. Conservatives have been disappointed countless times over the past decade plus. Hope springs eternal however, that we’ll one day get someone in office to actually govern as a conservative. True conservatism works every time it’s tried!
MyTake: Just remembered one of Sarah’s lines that got major response (to use for your sign at the rally) :
Personal Responsibility
It is odd that the NYTimes doesn’t just link to the sources that gave them the figures. And employees are employees. Why the CRP would consider people that work for different companies as non employees is odd, unless their contributions were a sum based on all of their jobs, for which we have zero data.
The relevant paragraphs:
This last sentence is the most concerning, as they say that “Their contributions are listed along with other employees of the companies they work for.” Well, why not F/F?
On the other hand, given the differences between the candidates on the this issue, both now and in the recent past, it is possible that some of the officers/managers/directors agreed with McCain as they watched their company crash and burn.
I guess we will never really know, although I would be prone to suspect that the NYTimes would present the worst possible scenario for McCain since they are pro Obama. That is purely opinion on my part, though it is reasonably well supported by the NYTimes track record.
Here are both vids..

That’s actually a pretty typical retort. ‘Oh, these aren’t the real Republicans. We’re the real Republicans.’ Yeah? Well, why do you real ones keep voting for the fake ones? Why is all of this criticism only coming at the tail end of Bush’s Presidency? Because for awhile there, it really sounded like you guys were pretty cool with everything these allegedly fake Republicans were doing. I’ve been arguing with people like you for years that Bush isn’t conservative at all, only to be told that I have ‘Bush Derangement Syndrome,’ or I hate America, or I support defeat, and on and on. Now you’re telling me I’ve been right about him all along, I guess? Maybe you should just take my advice about who to vote for, since you seem to be admitting that you’re very easily duped.
