This is what they meant by “in your face”

A glimpse of things to come?

Via the Lufkin Daily News:

A Lufkin woman received a surprise visit from the Secret Service last week because of a “death threat” comment she reportedly made about Sen. Barack Obama to a campaign volunteer asking for her support of the presidential candidate.

Two federal agents arrived at Jessica Hughes’ home Thursday to ask her if she said, “I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.”

Hughes said her words were deliberately twisted by a volunteer who was apparently unhappy Hughes was rude during a phone conversation the two had. The Lufkin mother, a Republican, said she received a call on her cell phone Wednesday from a woman with the Obama Volunteers of Texarkana.

“She asked if I was an Obama supporter, to which I replied, ‘No, I don’t support him. Your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time.’ (And then) I hung up.”

(Hughes is referring to a “born alive” Illinois bill that did not pass in the Illinois state Senate in 2005 and had previously been opposed by Obama because he said it undermined Roe v. Wade, according to FactCheck.org, a non-partisan organization. A federal version of the bill, which Obama said he would have supported, passed by unanimous consent and was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2002.)

Obama Campaign Communications for Texas director Josh Taylor declined to comment Monday, refusing to answer any questions and referring the matter to the Secret Service, which he said is conducting an investigation. A message left with a Secret Service agent in Houston was not immediately returned.

This is what they meant by getting “in your face.”

    He made a political choice. AS was more important to him than the White House. AS is doing great things, and I agree with his choice. There is no way anyone as President could remain on the board of anything.

    Well, TOS, chap and MJ might disagree with me here, but I’m really hoping for blue. There’s just such a rich palette of blues to choose from, so I’ve taken the initiative of suggesting we really consider shades in the teal, baby blue or even royal blue family — I mean, there’s just so many options. Of course, these shirts will have to be mass produced quickly, so I suspect the color specifications will have to be quickly determined (and I don’t know if anyone really even reads those comment cards I submitted to the Liberal Affairs Office), but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Otherwise, I’ll wear the brown — but I won’t like it!

    If we ever lose this republic — maybe I should say, when we lose it — my money will be placed entirely on the wager that the hoof-prints of the donkey party will be found all over the scene of the crime.

    Sending the Secret Service to knock on the door of someone who treated a Hopenchange volunteer brusquely over the phone is just the edge of the wedge. If Hopenchange becomes president with a donkey Congress to back him up, expect to see an assault on the 1st Amendment through a variety of intimidation tactics:

    - Clinton-style IRS audits of political critics;

    - Clinton-style abuse of FBI files gathered on political critics;

    - A return to the “Fairness” doctrine, along with its expansion to cover the Internet; and

    - A movement to legislatively and judicially define selected organizations like the NRA, Judicial Watch and the Heritage Foundation as purveyors of a new — and constitutionally unprotected — form of “hate speech.”

    And don’t expect the media arm of the donkey party — a.k.a., the “mainstream media” — to raise even a murmur of objection when it happens. Most of them would actually welcome the prospect of being rolled into a quasi “Ministry of Truth” under the donkeys, because their steadily declining readership, viewership, ad revenues and employment rolls have already shown that they can’t compete in a free market of ideas.

    This is what to expect when left-wing hatred supplants the last vestiges of right-wing ennui as the motivating force in Washington, D.C.

    I once read an internal US Army report from late 1942, criticizing our soldiers’ early performance against the Germans in North Africa. It concluded that too many individuals and even whole units, when facing the Afrika Korps for the first time, simply collapsed because the Americans couldn’t bring themselves to believe that they were in a life-or-death situation against an enemy who honestly meant to kill them.

    One of the memorandum’s conclusions is as applicable today as it was 65 years ago: if you’re locked in an existential struggle with an enemy that hates you — in no small part because they’ve been trained to hate you — then you have to learn to hate as well.

    Otherwise, you’re finished.

    Does anybody here really believe that the modern-day donkeys don’t hate you? Not just disagree with you, but hate you? And when you mix their hatred with their paranoia, is it any surprise that they adopt a “By any means necessary” philosophy toward gaining the means to not only defeat but to destroy you?

    This isn’t a game. The donkeys’ raw hatred of you is going to be the primary reason why millions of them are going to show up at the polls — and why, with ACORN’s help, they’ll be bringing their dogs, cats, comic book heroes and ancestors to vote with them.

    And once they’ve got a lock on the executive, legislative and judicial branches, then they’ll turn their projection outward and we’ll get to see what they really mean when they accuse Republicans of “Fascism” and “Nazism.”

    If we continue to face them with what seem to be the primary motivators of Republicans today — ennui, angst, recriminations and wishful thinking — will the outcome surprise anybody?

    The President is often referred to as ‘W’. No harm there. The media often liked to use Nixon’s middle name (Milhous). This is a bit of a faux rage the left has worked up over the use of Sen. Obama’s middle name.

    John Sidney McCain III

I never cease to be amazed by what an art conservatives have made of lying. Slight correction. They have a right to vote once, in their own name. Otherwise, I frankly don’t have a real problem with it. After all, it’s not as if it hasn’t been done for about 200 years.

    As is every GOTV effort done on both sides during voting. Its called “ground game” and up until this year, the Republicans have been masterful at it. I don’t begrudge them that.

    No one is forcing them into the van. no one is standing there with these folks in the voting booth, holding their hand while they pull the lever.

    Interesting take. I think most honest people would acknowledge that it was classic Republican fear-mongering — and I have to say, they are wonderful at it. I don’t for a moment honestly believe that you or anyone else here truly thinks Sheriff Mike merely liked the way the words rolled off his tongue. The intent was to incite fear, to imply that having the same middle name as a foreign dictator makes you a terrorist, to sharpen a perceived “foreignness,” to rile crowds and drive them to a belligerent frenzy — and then to pretend to be surprised when people yell things like, for example, “Kill him.”

    Please. You’re either playing dumb or you really, genuinely are dumb. One or the other.

    P.S. You may have noticed MM has never used Obama’s middle name — because she recognizes the intent of its usage. In fact, in an interview, she complained about liberal talking heads that invoked “my foreign sounding maiden name (Maglalang) as some sort of game winning argument” and discusses her disgust that no one said, “That’s a really dumb way to argue against somebody. Can we all just grow up?”

    Issues are issues. Trying to make someone seem scary based on their foreign sounding name is just silly.
