Finally: New McCain ad on ACORN

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 10, 2008 02:23 PM

Obama’s ties to ACORN run long and deep.

At last, the McCain camp informs the public:

Too bad they didn’t use reader Blind Mule’s appropriately redesigned ACORN logo. ACORN stands for Association of Corrupted Organizations for Registration of Non-Eligible Voters.

The campaign press release…

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, McCain-Palin 2008 released its latest web ad, entitled “ACORN.” The ad highlights Barack Obama’s involvement with ACORN, a group now accused of widespread voter fraud across the country and accused of advocating for the very type of home loans that have led to today’s financial crisis. For ACORN, Barack Obama was a critical organizer, and this year, client to the tune of $800,000. As the spotlight turns to ACORN’s efforts to defraud our electoral process, Barack Obama owes the American people the truth about his involvement in this group.

JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approve this message.

ANNCR: Who is Barack Obama?

A man with “a political baptism performed at warp speed.”

Vast ambition.

After college, he moved to Chicago.

Became a community organizer.

There, Obama met Madeleine Talbot, part of the Chicago branch of ACORN.

He was so impressive that he was asked to train the ACORN staff.

What did ACORN in Chicago engage in?

Bullying banks.

Intimidation tactics.

Disruption of business.

ACORN forced banks to issue risky home loans.

The same types of loans that caused the financial crisis we’re in today.

No wonder Obama’s campaign is trying to distance him from the group, saying, “Barack Obama Never Organized with ACORN.”

But Obama’s ties to ACORN run long and deep.

He taught classes for ACORN.

They even endorsed him for President.

But now ACORN is in trouble.

REPORTER: There are at least 11 investigations across the country involving thousands of potentially fraudulent ACORN forms.

ANNCR: Massive voter fraud.

And the Obama campaign paid more than $800,000 to an ACORN front for get out the vote efforts.

Too risky for America.

AD FACTS: Script For “ACORN” (WEB :90)

JOHN MCCAIN: I’m John McCain and I approve this message. ANNCR: Who is Barack Obama? A man with “a political baptism performed at warp speed.” Vast ambition.

· Barack Obama Has Had “A Political Baptism Performed At Warp Speed.” “Obama declined to be interviewed for this article, but conversations with more than a dozen friends and colleagues portray his time in Springfield as a political baptism performed at warp speed, engineered by Obama’s vast self-confidence and ambition.” (Eli Saslow, “From Outsider To Politician,” The Washington Post, 10/9/08)

ANNCR: After college, he moved to Chicago. Became a community organizer. There, Obama met Madeleine Talbot, part of the Chicago branch of ACORN. He was so impressive that he was asked to train the ACORN staff.

· Barack Obama Was Invited By Madeleine Talbot To Help Train Her Staff At ACORN. “Several community organizers and Altgeld Gardens tenants confirmed Johnson was working on asbestos but said Obama organized residents to act. ‘He got people to vote with their feet’ on the issue, organizer Madeleine Talbot said. At the time, Talbot worked at the social action group ACORN and initially considered Obama a competitor. But she became so impressed with his work that she invited him to help train her staff.” (Letta Tayler And Keith Herbert, “Chicago’s Streets Obama’s Teacher,” Newsday, 3/2/08)

· In 1992, Barack Obama Was Hired By ACORN To Run A Voter Registration Effort. “Indeed, Mr. Obama has extensive connections with the granddaddy of activist groups, Acorn (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), which has gotten millions in government grants for its low-income housing programs. In 1992, Acorn hired Mr. Obama to run a voter registration effort. He later became a trainer for the group, as well as its lawyer in election law cases. Acorn’s political arm has endorsed Mr. Obama while its ‘voter education’ arm has pledged to spend $35 million to register people this fall — despite a history of vote fraud scandals that have led to guilty pleas by many Acorn employees.” (John Fund, “Obama’s Liberal Shock Troops,” The Wall Street Journal, 7/12/08)

ANNCR: What did ACORN in Chicago engage in? Bullying banks. Intimidation tactics. Disruption of business. ACORN forced banks to issue risky home loans. The same types of loans that caused the financial crisis we’re in today.

· ACORN Led Protests At Banks To Force Them To Issue Risky Home Loans. “Various ACORN chapters across the country, led by folks like Chicago’s Madeline Talbott, staged in-your-face protests in bank lobbies and filed complaints meant to hold up mergers sought by targeted banking firms. Talbott & Co. generally wanted them to ease down-payment requirements and ignore weak credit histories. And their intimidating tactics often necessitated police action, as at a ’97 protest at Pulaski Bank & Trust in Arkansas, where activists blocked drive-through lanes.” (Editorial, “The Meltdown’s Acorn,” New York Post, 9/29/08)

· ACORN Forced Banks To Issue Shaky Loans By Pressuring The Banks. “ACORN recognized very early the opportunity presented by the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977. As Stanley Kurtz has reported, ACORN proudly touted ‘affirmative action’ lending and pressured banks to make subprime loans. Madeline Talbott, a Chicago ACORN leader, boasted of ‘dragging banks kicking and screaming’ into dubious loans. And, as Sol Stern reported in City Journal, ACORN also found a remunerative niche as an ‘advisor’ to banks seeking regulatory approval.” (Mona Charen, “Guilty Party: ACORN, Obama, and the mortgage mess,” National Review Online, 9/30/08)

ANNCR: No wonder Obama’s campaign is trying to distance him from the group, saying, “Barack Obama Never Organized with ACORN.”

· The Obama Campaign: “Barack Obama Never Organized With ACORN” (Barack Obama For President Website, http://fightthesmears.com/articles/20/acornrumor, Accessed 10/4/08)

ANNCR: But Obama’s ties to ACORN run long and deep. He taught classes for ACORN.

· Obama Directed Project Vote And Later Taught Classes For “Future Leaders Identified By ACORN And The Centers For New Horizons.” “He [Obama] says he is drawn to politics, despite its superficialities, as a means to advance his real passion and calling: community organization. … In 1992 Obama took time off to direct Project Vote, the most successful grass-roots voter-registration campaign in recent city history. Credited with helping elect Carol Moseley-Braun to the U.S. Senate, the registration drive, aimed primarily at African-Americans, added an estimated 125,000 voters to the voter rolls–even more than were registered during Harold Washington’s mayoral campaigns. ‘It’s a power thing,’ said the brochures and radio commercials. … Obama continues his organizing work largely through classes for future leaders identified by ACORN and the Centers for New Horizons on the south side.” (Hank De Zutter, Op-Ed, “What Makes Obama Run?” Chicago Reader, 12/8/95)

ANNCR: They even endorsed him for President.

· ACORN’s Political Action Committee Endorsed Obama. “[A]CORN’s political action committee endorsed Barack Obama for President. … The endorsement reflects a belief that Obama — who worked as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago — understands that change must come from the ground-up, as part of a working coalition, rather than from position papers.” (Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Op-Ed, “ACORN: Obama Gets It,” The Nation, 2/23/08)

ANNCR: But now ACORN is in trouble. REPORTER: There are at least 11 investigations across the country involving thousands of potentially fraudulent ACORN forms. ANNCR: Massive voter fraud.

· FOX News’ Eric Shawn: “But There Are At Least 11 Investigations Across The Country Involving Thousands Of Potentially Fraudulent ACORN Forms.” (FOX News’ “Special Report,” 10/8/08)

ANNCR: And the Obama campaign paid more than $800,000 to an ACORN front for get out the vote efforts. Pressuring banks to issue risky loans. Nationwide voter fraud. Barack Obama. Bad judgment. Blind ambition. Too risky for America.

· Obama’s Campaign “Paid More Than $800,000″ To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally “Misrepresented” The Group’s Work To The FEC. “U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat’s campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports. An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. — a subsidiary of ACORN — worked in ‘get-out-the-vote’ projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.” (David M. Brown, “Obama To Amend Report On $800,000 In Spending,” Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 8/22/08)

People, if there was ever a time to pay attention to the Congressional races, I’d say this is it. No matter who gets elected President, we need a “conservative” Congress to prevent the socialistic ideas of either Obama or McCain from becoming law and policy. We need a “conservative” Congress to prevent the nominations of life-time appointed Supreme Court judges who view the Constitution as a “living document” that can change at their behest. Bottom line: Can one imagine either Obama or McCain with a liberal Congress?

OK, I just picked myself up off the floor. Now the NYT is actually reporting on Obama’s fake donors.

Fictitious Donors Found in Obama Finance Records

Last December, someone using the name “Test Person,” from “Some Place, UT,” made a series of contributions, the largest being $764, to Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign totaling $2,410.07.

Someone identifying himself as “Jockim Alberton,” from 1581 Leroy Avenue in Wilmington, Del., began giving to Mr. Obama last November, contributing $10 and $25 at a time for a total of $445 through the end of February.

The only problem? There is no Leroy Avenue in Wilmington. And Jockim Alberton, who listed his employer and occupation as “Fdsa Fdsa,” does not show up in a search of public records.

An analysis of campaign finance records by The New York Times this week found nearly 3,000 donations to Mr. Obama, the Democratic nominee, from more than a dozen people with apparently fictitious donor information. The contributions represent a tiny fraction of the record $450 million Mr. Obama has raised. But the questionable donations — some donors were listed simply with gibberish for their names — raise concerns about whether the Obama campaign is adequately vetting its unprecedented flood of donors.

It is unclear why someone making a political donation would want to enter a false name. Some perhaps did it for privacy reasons. Another, more ominous possibility, of course, is fraud, perhaps in order to donate beyond the maximum limits.

    The most laughable line?

It is unclear why someone making a political donation would want to enter a false name.

Oh, I think we know exactly why someone would want to enter a false name.

You can read the rest of the story at the NYT’s website. It’s under the Politics category. I’m logged in, so I can’t really give you a proper link.

Liberals and democrats have a new excuse for calling everything they don’t like “racist”. Actually not new, but at least it has a new name….”racial code”. The theory of racial code is the ultimate spin for racism. Everything can be put on the list of “racial code” depending on how it suits the liberal. See #15 in this blog. An African-American professor explained the concept of racial code to O’Reilly on The Factor last night. Apparently understanding racial code allows one to detect racists who are trying to hide the fact that they are racist. This kind of thinking, that everything can be anything, leads to the inability to carry on a rationale exchange of ideas.

    1. What a better time to wake up the Republican party to its “conservative” side than to say “no” to McCain? If a Presidential candidate isn’t safe (that is, he can’t just take the “conservative” vote for granted), then perhaps a few Congressmen will get the wake-up call as well.
    2. What a better time than in November to figure this out. After November is too late. We’ll have to wait another two years, after, if McCain is elected, Republicans are dragged through the mud for McCain’s failings (e.g. amnesty amongst other things). There are some good ones in Congress, but, as you point out, not that many. Duncan Hunter, Ted Poe, Mike Pence, and Jim DeMint are a few of the good ones left. We need to reward them and put the others on notice.

Can someone get a message to McCain? Most people still aren’t really sure what ACORN is, what their scope of activities are, and the corruption that they’ve engaged in.

ACORN is the smoking gun, but McCain/Palin need to pound it harder, and fully explain how Obama was entangled in it, and how it led to the downfall of the economy.

Law of substition: ACORN = Fraud & Corruption; Obama = ACORN

It’s up to McCain to fully, and directly make that case, over and over again. 26 days and 26 opportunities to fully make that connection. Actually, twice a day, is 52….a whopping 52 times for McCain to remind voters of the proven fraud. But, will he ?

Some months ago I wondered about the possibiltiy that George-I-caused-the-British-pound-to-tank-all-by-myself-Soros and his socialist co-billionaires might have had something to do with the futures market speculation that drove up the price of oil/gas/fuel.

Is it not such a convenient, remarkable coincidence that, 4-6 weeks before the election, we get an all-of-a-sudden financial/economic emergency that needs, we are told, immediate massive government bailing out?
Of course, the screwing up of the economy helps the socialists, who are perceived as “better” on the economy.

(The clowns who believe this “better” nonsense, of course, whether they know or admit it or not, are simply socialists themselves; because “better” simply means punishing, and taxing further, taxpayers and folks who play by the rules; and then in turn buying votes from socialists with the money that has been taken effectively at the point of a gun [the government's authority and power to tax]).

    But, I digress.
Phew! Almost as bad as “Atlas Shrugged”.
    Apologies.

Anyway, I’m not particularly fond of such “coincidences”.

    2. This one is easy. Sarah can honestly say, “Until I came on board, you were toast.” He knows it.

While true, it would be a moot point. Once he’s President, he’s President. He wouldn’t owe anything to anyone. Also, he could just say, “and you wouldn’t be the VP if it weren’t for me.”

    3. Agreed, but McCain needs to realize what Palin gives him within the Party. Recipricolly, Conservatives need to realize the Bully Pulpit she provides them with the POTUS.

I agree to an extent. The reason Reagan was a “teflon” President is because he had the support of the people, which meant that Congress didn’t want to upset those same people who were responsible for keeping them in office. (This is an area where Bush failed immensely.) On the flip side though, McCain can very well limit her sphere of influence by restricting her to only fulfilling the roles laid out for the VP in the Constitution. He could just tell her, “here are your areas of work. If you go beyond that, you’re gone. Go along, and we’ll get along.” I don’t think he’ll do this, nor do I think she’ll do all that much to challenge him.

We are, but you have to understand the priority of work.

. Ensure the inegrity of the election process, by ruthlessly rooting out voter fraud by November 5.
. Keep a socialist out of the White House, who would destroy our capitalist system.
. Make sure the Democrats who CAUSED the problem by meddling in the banking regulations, using ACORN and Fannie/Freddie as tools are kept away from the solution.
. Get the government OUT of the banking industry. They can social engineer somewhere else.
. Just like “build the fence” stop the practice of providing loans to people, who in a real world would not get loans like 5 MILLION Illegal aliens.

THAT is my proposed plan to FIX the economy.

I want you to ponder the last bullet point. There are poor Americans, who could realize the dream of home ownership. I am open to finding a way to help them in a way that will build their lives. BUT some illegal with the help of Democrats stole the money we could have used to help that an AMERICAN and help utterly screw up the market while doing it.
