Just wait. Like the 1st bombing of the World Trade Center until 9/11, we will blindly go about our business until we get smacked in face.
In the Arabian gulf, we let the Iranian speedboats probe our ships perimeters, taunting us, and nothing ever happens. Instead of smacking the living crap out of idiots, we sit there with our ‘Rules of Engagements’ not wanting to create an international incident.
One day, another ship will get blown out of the water and it will be just another day of wondering why nobody ‘likes’ us.
At least we dont have these friggin VBSS idjits in charge of things over there. (Then again, maybe we do cry over our iPods when they are stolen by the Iranians)

This attack on a U.S. warship in a foreign port, was an act of war. Clinton did nothing but treat it as a criminal investigation. His lead agency was the FBI, not the U.S. Navy. As we learned on 9-11-01, that was a big mistake.
We must also remember that this attack, while tragic for all involved, produced a moment for America to show our resolve. This ship did not sink, thanks to expert design, construction, and a brave crew who saved her in her moment of peril. She was brought home, to our own Gulf Coast and repaired. Then returned to the Persian Gulf to continue her mission. The U.S.S. Cole was only temporarily knocked down. Now she’s back on duty, stronger than ever and a symbol of why you don’t mess with the USA.
God Bless the Cole’s lost crewmen, and God Bless America.

I have just spent one and one half hours calling on the McCain Phone Bank. I called Ohio. There are many undecided. I have been honest with them about my research on Obama. It is making a difference. They just want to hear someone else confirm the fears that they have about Obama.

Thanks for this, too, Michelle. I do not think I saw any articles in my local paper, the Columbus Dispatch.
They did run a deplorable article the glossed over the Obama/Ayers relationship. No mention whatsoever of the fact that Obama and Ayers worked together on the Chicago Annenburg Challenge or the Woods Fund or Foundation. The writer did trot out the “Obama was 8 years old” canard in his attempt to downplay the inconvenient relationship that Obama and Ayers share.

Remembrance is good, it really helps with the grieving. Personally I am of a mind that revenge helps with that. Revenge so terrible the “innocent civilians” will not let the bomb makers and such hang around. They can still hit you from the desert and the hinterlands but it is harder with less support.

What bothers me the most about the tragic loss of life on the Cole is how unnecessary it was. We had just started fueling our ships in Aden. The feel good ideology of the Clinton administration drove them to it just to show the Yemenis we liked them! Prior to that time, we refueled at sea.
My daughter’s ship, the Hancock, was the first to fuel at Aden, I believe the Cole was the third. Seeing our weakness, they wasted no time in taking advantage of the situation.
Now we are on the cusp of electing another president who thinks we just need to show the bastards that we like them and all will be better. We’ll all sit around
thecampfireand sing Kumbaya together. Oops, can’t have a campfire, global warming and all. God help us!God bless those 17 lost souls and their families.
God rest their souls… one and all.

Let us make sure that their deaths were not in vain, and that Israel, the Mossad, and the eight Jews that control every financial transaction in the world never attack us again.

Thank you for the reminder Michelle. I also never forget those that were victims of the Khobar Towers attack either. I served with many in my Air Force career that wear the Purple Heart medal they earned from surviving that attack. May those that gave the ultimate sacrifice rest in peace and may God help to heal the hearts and souls of their families and loved ones.
Right after that happened, I think everyone over there who wasnt an American and was anywhere close to one of our assets, had his head dialed in through a scope for several days. If anything had gone sideways…..
But instead of whacking Iran for Khobar, what did we do? Remember all of those news stories about us blowing Theran apart in Aug ‘96? Yeh, me neither.

This was one of several attacks that kicked off the Global War on Terror (whether we chose to fight or not). A book I’d recommend: “The Age of Sacred Terror” by Daniel Benjamin and Steven Simon.

We always do a memorial service, albeit small, for remembrances such as this one for the Cole at my VFW….. we also do them for Anbar towers, etc…… but, it’s sad to report that most DO forget….. and it is this short sightedness and selective memory that will get Obama Osama elected. Thank you, Michelle and others here to keeping the memory alive. We will win or else.!

The Heroes of the USS Cole only add the punctionation to the Navy’s unofficial Motto:
“Non sibi sed patriae!” (Not for self, but for country).

I remember the USS Cole and salute my brothers in arms in the USN that lost their lives and those who were injured on the attack.
Oh, yes, I am former USAF, not USN - although I do have a Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Thanks for the reminder MM. You always keep our country’s best at heart. God Bless you for that. Never forgotten. May eternal rest be theirs.

Always remembered; never forgotten. I wonder if Obama wins, how much the terrorists will “test” us again. If I was a terrorist, I would certainly be encouraged with an American left-wing government, and set up attacks where I could. What’s the worse that could happen? Peace talks? Perhaps an under-the-table bribe, so the new President looks good, “winning” against me? Congress certainly wouldn’t allocate more money for military operations against me. They hate the military and need the money to fund all the pork programs, denied them over the years. Another “Cole” would be blamed on Cheney and Bush. That’s so they continue to look like “saviors of the nation” to the public.
Their sacrifice, courage and commitment is not forgotten. May they rest easy.
At the time of the attack on the Cole, I worked with a woman whose stepson was one of those killed. May they rest in peace, and may we never forget.

I was running an errand up in the supply office on the USS Theodore Roosevelt (I was a nuke reactor operator) when I saw the news of the attack. Since I reported in 1998, I found it odd we didn’t man the 50 cal mounts when we went into foreign ports. A Russian ship once tried to ram us while we were bombing the Serbs, yet it still wasn’t pc enough to look threatening to foreigners until after the attack on the USS Cole.
I’ll never forget attending the memorial on pier 11 at Norfolk Naval when a parent of one of the victims told Bill Clinton to “never forget”. He looked sympathetic, and with a tear in his eye replied “we’ll get ‘em”. He didn’t and a little over a year later 9/11 happened.
