More Democratic rage not on the front page
Alert Paul Krugman and Frank Rich! There’s another outbreak of campaign-induced rage to report. Dissent has been stifled. Free speech is under assault.
By Democrats.
Oh, never mind.
This was on page C1 of yesterday’s Washington Post, by the way.
If it were a Republican mob, you know this would be front page on the NYT and echoed on MSNBC, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, etc., etc., etc….
The sign went up Sunday evening, bold black letters against the stark white background of the marquee at the Colony South Hotel & Conference Center in Clinton: “Country First. McCain/Palin.”
By daybreak, pandemonium had broken loose all across heavily Democratic Prince George’s County. Many local supporters of Democrat Barack Obama, jolted by the message as they headed down Branch Avenue on their Monday morning commutes, grabbed cellphones and BlackBerrys to notify friends. Operators of neighborhood e-mail group lists cried foul to their memberships. The NAACP logged calls. Community leaders demanded boycotts of the hotel, a common venue for Democratic events.
“Businesspeople have to be mindful of the sentiments and sensibilities of their market trading area, and Prince George’s County is overwhelmingly for Obama,” said community activist Arthur Turner of Kettering, who was among those advocating a boycott. “People I have talked to look at the sign as a slap in the face. They feel it was blatant disrespect. . . . I have heard people say they will no longer patronize Colony South because of that disrespect.”
The outcry over the hotel marquee tapped into the passion — and sometimes anger — that has characterized this fall’s presidential campaign. Supporters of Republican candidate John McCain have vented their rage at rallies this week, applauding thunderously as McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, accused Obama of “palling around with terrorists.”
Prince George’s, though, is clearly Obama Country. As the nation’s wealthiest mostly black community, where about 77 percent of registered voters are Democrats, residents have Obama placards in their yards, bumper stickers on their cars and the candidate’s visage on their T-shirts.
The marquee supporting the GOP ticket in “an area that is strongly African American was like putting a stink bomb in the middle of the living room,” said University of Maryland political Professor Ron Walters. “What it does show is the emotions that are around this campaign and this election.”
Colony South General Manager Alan Vahabzadeh said that the hotel, one of several Washington area businesses that has dared to venture into the political thicket, got the message after about 100 phone calls and three dozen e-mails. The sign came down Wednesday afternoon.
“I didn’t even realize it was going to be like this,” he said in an interview. The last thing “we want to do is lose business,” he added.
Welcome to our world.

Intimidation campaign, total success. Next.
I wish I could put this on a sign in that county! It’s a comment I posted on Townhall last night, after getting in the tasergate weeds with some law student. I got a little frustrated, and went sarcastic on him with an Obamabot style defense of Sarah. Now that I have re-read it, maybe I should just go ahead and believe it!
Amusing, but strangely comforting. How do you think that Obama county would like that on a billboard?
So, political Free Speech is now considered by some as disrespectful. How sad.
I submit that it is the extreme left who is disrespectful of our country’s First Amendment. Shame on those democrats.
Good morning all.
I live in northern Idaho. If our local major hotel put up a pro Obama sign I’d organize a call in campaign. I see nothing wrong with their actions. I’ve become so numb to the bias of the MSM, I’d would expect no other response other than outrage from them.
We should stop referring to them as Democrats. Far too many among them steal their “opponent’s” election signs, register countless numbers illegally to vote to steal elections, and intimidate all who exercise free speech contrary to their opinions. They are becoming Autocrat Party.
Didja ever notice that if you want your car keyed, put a Republican bumper sticker on it.
Never happens when a Democrat bumper sticker is on a car.
This cuts right down to the whole “who is more angry/radical/nutty, doesn’t it?
Mugabe Zimbabweism alive and well in the “Free State!”
Free speech is only free for Demorcrats. It will even be worse for 1st and 2nd amendment rights if Obama wins.
I wonder about Obama’s poll lead. How many people voting for McCain will say they are voting for Obama just to stay out of confrontations with the Obama thugs?
I believe the perceived fear of the left, was best illustrated on a segment of the “View”. When McCain said “I want people who interpret the Constitution of the United States the way our founding fathers envisioned for them to do” Woopi’s response was, ” Should I be worried about being a slave or a return to slavery”. If your a normal person, Woopi’s paranoia would be obvious, but the black community has had forty years of being conditioned by the MSM to think that basic interpretations of the constitution are dangerous. If anyone on this blog has problems with McCain, remember he will appoint strict constructionist to the courts.
McCain missed a perfect opportunity to both humiliate a liberal and expose this type of thinking for the simplistic, childish nonsense that is corroding our country. He should have politely but firmly responded to her inane comment with a series of points that would have justified the Straight Talk Express label. Even just asking her to explain her question more fully would have sufficed to show how paranoid and delusional liberals can be. Something like that would have been hard to ignore by the MSM and might have helped shake some viewers out of their liberal trance. Instead, he just let it slide by and another opportunity was wasted by not wanting to be labeled partisan. We can see how well that has worked out.
*Note to self*…stay away from PGC. 77% of them are tyrants.
Yes. Heck, they’ve been using that reasoning (or lack thereof) to harass religious folks for a while now, why not move on to free speech in general?
The First Amendment won’t be worth the paper it’s written on under an Obama administration.
Enjoy it while you can, folks.
Obama free speech = The Fairness Doctrine.
I’m afraid McCain is not quick on his feet. Whoopi Goldberg is a longtime member of the Planned Parenthood board of advisors. McCain could have nailed down the abortion issue as well as discussing states rights.
GEEEESS!!!
More and more of my friends are talking about the up and coming civil war/revolution, an idea which I’ve pooh-poohed for some time but am now starting to wonder about. There is a huge disconnect…half the country seems h-ll bent on drinking the koolaid and living a life devoid of any personal responsibility or common sense. The other half is sick and tired of paying the bills for the whole and watching everything they’ve built through hard work and blood piss-d away, tired of having morality, character and family values subjugated and belittled. On the one hand, I’d hate to see it…on the other hand our side has things like guns, intestinal fortitude and a will derived from strong sense of duty and right and wrong. The other side is armed with lies, fallacy, lack of conviction, lack of reality, and cowardice, and though the matchup is uneven, you won’t hear me complaining! A lot of people have been patient and understanding…taking the “high road” and “reaching across the aisles,” but the world we leave our kids is just too important to fritter away. I hope the great national divide doesn’t come…but if it should, that we on the right and of the right stand together and get the job done in the spirit of our founding fathers and those who went before us in the struggle for freedom and justice.
And people actually wonder why I refuse to buy a newspaper, even when I used to work for one.
It’s amazing how Obama supporters are “passionate”, yet McCain supporters are “filled with rage”.
Just saw our Michelle on Fox and Friends. The “Hello Kitty” mittens comment was priceless. If only McCain had half your passion.
sigh
Actually, that’s his whole campaign in a nutshell.
The act of blatant disrespect was committed by the people of Prince George county that were trying to oppress that business owner’s right to free speech.
Obama’s plan… domination by intimidation.
Hopefully he will return to political obscurity on November 5th.
VERY well said!
McCain needs to change tactics. He is being blamed for the economic mess we’re in and it is “the economy stupid” so he need to paraphrase that line and change the subject to….
IT’S THE CONSTITUTION STUPID
The left will hate him and be threatened by that remark but I believe the majority will understand.
It is not going to get any better anytime soon. This who they are, how they act be it at Flyers games, NYC parade, Prince George Country or a thousand other places. The Left’s Thugocracy is in place ready to strike any counter-revolutionary resisting the re-education of the proletariat.
Prepare yourselves.

Two knuckleheads in Nashville can tear down 70+ Bush/Cheney signs (and rightly get arrested) but the mere presence of 1 McCain/Palin sign in Prince George County (Maryland?) is a “a sign of disrespect” that threatens a boycott. That kind of political intolerance is the real stinkbomb here. The removal of that sign was not a change I could believe in.
I am, but we must remain optimistic or the left will win.
FM,
If McCain wins, he will win in spite of himself. I agree that we must remain optimistic but my optimism never rested with McCain. And the MSM and their fellow rabid Dems know it. They’ve known from the beginning that she is the reason for our hope. That’s why they been trying to crush her ever since. Go ‘Cuda!
McCain pledges to whip Obama’s you know what in the next debate… we shall see.
Nicely put, but I seriously doubt there is anything that can be done to mitigate the coming conflagration. The MSM is no longer the 4th estate dieing a horrible ugly death and can’t be trusted to report the facts and the rule of law is only used again conservatives with liberals getting a pass on gross misconduct, fraud, sedition, and treason. The District of Columbia needs a cleansing and with massive runaway voter fraud thanks to the anointed ones friends in ACORN we can no longer count on running this country from the ballot box. We are quickly running out of options and the road our government charged down on 3 Oct 08 has almost completely killed the Republic. I fear it will take more than words and political action to win this country back it will take the might of arms and intestinal fortitude of our fore fathers to stand up to the tyranny of the left, our corrupt fat cat politicians, and the government’s inept bureaucracies.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America! We’re boned!
FamilyMan #25 Yes, that is true. I am getting an area ready for two more rose bushes this January; but I have the bug and fungus spray ready too

The left is a slap in the face to free speech.
I just want proof that these “angry Republicans” are actually Republicans.
Sure, there is concern and even anger. I want to know about the unhinged ones.
Boomer and Arizonia; here are two quotes by John Adams.
“Democracy… while it lasts is more bloody than either [aristocracy or monarchy]. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide.”
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
This stuff has been going on for years …
It’s not news. Not to us anyway.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of that paranoia, I can’t say the same for your assessment of McCain’s probably judicial choices.
He will appoint judges that will interpret the Constitution according to HIS opinion of the Founders’ intent, not strictly the Founders’ intent.
The guy’s almost as big a scumbag as Oblahma.
RWR
http://www.rightwingrocker.com
Sadly, the only way we’re going to have the America envisioned by our Founding Fathers is to do just that.
We need a new party (like the Republican Party in the 19th Century) that will take this issue head-on and run with it.
Here is a great platform (again) for such a party. It was built from the Reagan2020 platform, the Constitution Party Platform and the Libertarian Party Platform, with the intention of bringing conservative patriots of all stripes together under one banner.
Lord knows the Republicans aren’t going to go there.
RWR
http://www.rightwingrocker.com
Almost is the operative word. We have no choice this election cycle. We must vote for McCain and Sahra.
That’s not going to happen. McCain doesn’t support the Constitution any more than Oblahma.

The Left couldn’t handle hanging out at Flyers games. Flyers fans are a tough lot. Kind of like the readership here.
Do you really thing Riley Cote is a liberal???? Come on.
RWR

The Left is going to win anyway. McCain is one of THEM, not one of us. Even if he wins, look for liberalism to be the order of the day, just as it has under Bush, who’s also no conservative.

Family Man thanks for the quote on Democracy. I believe that is why our founding fathers formed a Representative Republic instead. The only problem with this long lived experiment is the elected representatives believe they have learned how to bribe the electorate with their own stolen tax dollars. Come November 4th I know one Congressman in Idaho that many of use will try to force into the unemployment line not that we will be successful, but I can’t vote for a man that will not listen to over 80% of the electorate.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America! We’re boned!
That’s the dems for you – freedom of speech, as long as it’s OUR speech. Yes, we’re all equal, but some are more equal than others.
I to share your views and fears of McCain but we are at a critical time in our history. If Obama wins we’re all toast.
#15. I somewhat agree with you. I’ve always believed that our country will end up being in another civil war. There is just so much hate in this country. I feel sorry for my children. Where I disagre with you is that you say that the other side(the left) will basically roll-over.
I think your wrong. I think they will commit very cowardly acts of war. Firebombings, sick killings, gang rapes, etc. Don’t believe me, look at history. And look at the beginnings of the vileness and violence already being perpetuated by the other side. Have there been some instances of vileness from our side? Probably because there are always a few rotten apples in a bunch but it pales in comparison to the other side.
I told my wife last night to pray to god Obama wins because if not, I would not want to be a white person or anyone of any color, race, creed who supported McCain/Palin. I’m afraid but will defend my country. Wolverine!!
Boomer, I’ve been pushing congressman Sali on the issue of the “fair Tax”. He is still against it. I consider a major change in our taxing system to be paramount to our freedom.
Exactly why I don’t want a civil war, the rules go out the window very quickly.
FamilyMan I agree with you on revamping the Byzantine tax codes that continue to squeeze the middle class out of existence. I still wish Elmore County could move under Congressman Sali, he has done a great job in supporting conservative values compared to Congressman Simpson.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America! We’re boned!
And now for my two cents. There is a great irony in this campaign. Obama understands the constitution but has worked his whole life to destroy it.
John McCain does not understand the constitution at all (hence actions like McCain-Feingold) but risked his life in service to the nation and the constitution.
Frankly, this particular discussion is largely academic now since the US Constitution is dead as far as either major party is concerned.
Another great irony is that Bush beat Obama to the job of destroying the consitution.
We I sure as hell ain’t voting for him, and anyone who does has no right to bitch when he goes and screws things up in the name of “bipartisanship”.

The left and their accomplices in the MSM are creating an atmosphere of fear grounded in racism. I wish the whole damn race issue would go away. I’m a normal white male, living in a state that is considered extremely right winged. I should fit the model the left is panting of what a bigot is. I have never experienced racism all the time I’ve lived here. Forty five years ago I dated for two years a Dutch Indonesian girl. I loved her beautiful brown skin, full lips and seductive round eyes. Very much the look or our Michelle.
HMMMM
note to FamilyMan; Apologize to Michelle for mental musing.
Over the last few years, and the last few months in particilar, I have been convinced that the GOP has abandoned every conservative principle they once paid lib service to.
I am done with the GOP. I doubt I will ever vote for the party again. I will be voting for the Constitution Party this year.
The two major parties are the Marxists and “the other socialist party in America.” America needs a new conservative party and the Constitution Party looks like the best.
Doesn’t anyone notice this? The hatred of the left started in the 2000 election and just kept on building. It would make NO DIFFERENCE who we have running. If JFK were running now he would be considered far right by today’s Dems. His speech of “Ask not what your country can do for you……” is lost on that group today. The “new camalot ” that they seek is not and will never come. Obama comes to destroy that dream of “his” hero and idol.
Palin has the idea, self responsibility and American faith in the future is what we need now. Not a government fix for EVERYTHING FROM THE COMMON COLD TO PIMPLES as the dems( Pelosi – Reid – Obama & friends ).
The battle started in 2000 and we , the silent right, are just starting to really state the TRUTH, IT WILL SET AMERICA FREE. The blood shed by us all would be for naught if we let them (Dem) win this time. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, IT IS WON BY THE BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS OF EACH.
Freedom is not free. Agreed. And the “wake up and smell the Marxists” sentiment is spot on. But, to still think the GOP offers a meaningful, freedome loving, rule-of-law based, capitalistic, limited-government alternative to the Marxists is frankly delusional.
I considered myself a Republican for most of my life. Since Clinton, I realized I was a conservative and not a Republican. Bush II and McCain destroyed any pretense that the GOP represented conservative principles.
The GOP no longer stands for what conservatives believe and want. They abandoned their core principles and we need a new truly conservative party. I didn’t leave my party. My party left me….
Colony South should have known better. I live in an area heavily infested with Obamabots and if I put up a McCain/Palin sign my office would need 24 hour security and I’d lose clients. That’s a risk I can’t take.
The entire leftist world view is built on the necessity of fear, intimidation and violence to create a new world.
Yet another irony is that the leftists preach “tolerance, peace and love” through violence.
And we conservatives sit back shocked every time a leftist acts voilently just as they have promised to do time and time again. So many don’t really believe leftists are evil. So many don’t even believe there is such a think as “evil.”
The leftists require fear, intimidation and violence to silence us to impose their new world order. This is just a taste of what will come once they gather the reins of government.
This, my friends is the face of the new America.
Intimidation, Obama Democrat style will rule the day.
I sense that the States of Utah and Idaho will be witnessing population jumps in coming years.
Major metropolitan areas will become uninhabitable.
And if it gets bad enough, secession from the union.
The intimidators will win if we let them. Buk buk buk b’GAWK!
I see this as very similar to the Dixie Chicks dust up. They were free to say what they wanted, and the fans were free to stop patronizing them. We never heard this sentiment:
“Businesspeople have to be mindful of the sentiments and sensibilities of their market trading area, and Prince George’s County is overwhelmingly for Obama,” said community activist Arthur Turner of Kettering.
The ‘marketing area’ of country music is mostly Republican, I believe, but we just heard about how they were being ’silenced’, or that it wasn’t a big deal. Good grief.
So what are we really going to do if this guy becomes president? Most people don’t believe a dictatorship can arise in the US, but I’m not so sure anymore.
The election process is underway and the Democrat has the forces of traditional media on his side.
The post above points out how civility is not in the arsenal of most staunch Dem supporters.
The media will not report the community assault on the hotel that dared to support the Republican nominee.
I have felt this from the start, this is akin to the Bolshevik uprising, a coup or revolution if you will.
Can anyone reading here say this resembles any other Presidential election?
McCain needs to run right (against his DNA)to win. That’s what you get when the media’s “my favorite Republican” becomes our nominee. He won’t fight for the right wing agenda – he’s opposed to much of it.
McCain can’t “run right” and win the disaffected base at this point. I am not sure it would hurt but I don’t expect it would help with the base. Frankly, the conservative base is pretty factured at this point and hearing McCain obviously lie to us won’t really matter to true conservatives. He is not a conservative and we know it. It is not in his DNA as you said.
It might hurt with “independent” voters too because the MSM has “convinced” them that the financial meltdown is because of conservative, free market principles!
As long as the leftists have a stranglehold on the news media (think AP), we will never have a conservative Republican candidate to vote for. We had several running this election (Thompson, Hunter, Tancredo…) but with a nearly total media blackout on them and their positions, they didn’t have a chance. Basically, the news media chose McCain for us because he was the worst/most liberal Republican available. By pushing McCain, they get someone who is less likely to win (because conservatives can’t stand him), but if he does win, they get the most liberal possible Republican candidate.
I don’t think so. If there’s one thing McCain has shown us, it’s that when he’s face to face with Democrats, all he can do is roll over and show his belly. His court choices will all be ones that are pre-approved by Pelosi, Kennedy, Reid, etc.
Expecting John McCain to appoint “strict constructionists” with a 51/49, much less 61/39, Democrat Senate is a flight of pure fantasy.
McCain will maverick himself to death running around trying to “compromise” with these leftists.
Being less socialistic than the other guy does not make you a conservative. When will the nation learn? John McCain won’t govern conservatively because he is not a conservative.

Colony South General Manager Alan Vahabzadeh:
Please, put the marquee back up and this time do NOT TAKE IT DOWN.
These people do not own you, and they do not control you. You’re allowed to put whatever the hell you like up on your marquee.
This is still a free country, we are all allowed to support the candidate of our choice and vote according to conscience.
Do NOT let these a****les bully and intimidate you. This is the United States of America, a DEMOCRACY. Not a socialist country.
Republicans who are visiting the capitol, I URGE YOU to drive just a little bit farther to SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES who do not deserve to have their (probably low wage) hours cut back even farther, or lose their jobs because their wealthy, meddling, intolerant liberal neighbors have their heads stuck up their collective asses.
Here is the website for Colony South.
If you’re travelling into the area folks, make a reservation today and let these good people know that there are still sane and sensible people in this country who value the freedoms of speech and conscience.
If you already live in the area, make a reservation to have dinner at the Wayfarer Restaurant… and let them know why you are coming to dine.
If you’re in charge of scheduling events, lunches, dinners, and receptions for the GOP, then please make good use of the banquet facilities at the Colony.
Say no to fascism by saying “yes” to Colony.
Wow! The nuts at the McCain rallies call Obama an “Arab” and “terrorist,” and cry out to “KILL HIM,” and somehow an e-mail campaign to get a business to take a sign down is somehow equivalent?
Like y’all wouldn’t whine and moan about a business in your community with an O sign.
No, I wouldn’t whine about it. I just wouldn’t do business with them.
When I am working I don’t discuss politics. I just fix people’s problems and collect my fees.

Sane and sensible people understand what “freedom of speech” is and they’re not interested in oppressing their neighbors.
Notice how the author added that this was in a mostly balk/dem area and how it was like a “stink bomb.” I guess pointing this out will make me racist according to the MSM.
The “new” Democratic Party does not believe in Freedom of Speech or many other Freedoms. It should really change it’s name or splinter off and call itself what it is.. Communist/Socialist Party.
Again, absolutely ridiculous behavior by supposed adults. It’s disgusting.
Black skin, brown shirt. It’s an Obama thing and I don’t understand.
Read “Why Courage Matters” by John McCain.
And remember: For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in England now-a-bed Shall think themselves accurs’d they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day
They want a fight? Let’s fight.
Absolutely correct. That’s why you don’t see that many bumper stickers or yard signs for Republican candidates. We know that some crapweasel liberal will key the car or vandalize the house if we display a sign of support for an “R”.
The people who are yelling those things at McCain rallies are Obamabots pretending to be McCain supporters.
Intimidation in its purest form. Herr Goebbels would be proud.
