Everyone is aware of the need to “spread the wealth around,” it’s just a different degree of how much to spread. Even if you want a flat consumption tax, obviously the rich consume a lot more than everyone else. Unless you want a true flat tax for every individual in the country – say, everyone pays $10K – you too are in favor of spreading the wealth around.

Ba-Robin Hood proposes taxing the wealthy to a greater degree and transferring that money to folks who do not pay income tax, likely in the form of additional earned income tax credits. Most conservatives do not support expansion of EICs.

The good news is that “spread the wealth” is incredibly easy to understand, even for the folks who had to suffer through public education.

Since your bottom half cumulatively paid only 3.07% of all federal income taxes collected, why do you have any interest at all in what I’m paying in federal taxes? Do you think you have some right to my money, despite the fact that you’re not even coming close to pulling your own weight in taxes?

When you say “everyone is aware of the need to ’spread the wealth around’”, you’re wrong. Some peoples’ wealth is being “spread around” far too much as it is under our current tax system.

    No joke…(emphasis mine)

Founded in Chicago in 1919, the Communist Party of the United States has an outstanding history in the struggles for peace, democratic rights, racial and gender equality, economic justice, union organization, and international solidarity. Our Party is organized on the principle of democratic centralism, combining maximum democratic discussion and decision-making with maximum unity of will and action, ensuring our ability to play a strong organizing role in the class struggle. We focus our efforts on increasing our ability to organize millions into struggle, fighting anti-communism as a divisive weapon of the capitalist class. With Marxism-Leninism guiding our actions, the Communist Party strives to build the broadest unity against global capitalist imperialism now headed by U.S. imperialism, for immediate gains and reforms that benefit working people, and for a progressive democratization of the government, the economy, and society of our country on the road to and after winning socialism.

But my journey is part of a larger journey – one shared by all who’ve ever sought to apply the values of their faith to our society. It’s a journey that takes us back to our nation’s founding, when none other than a UCC church inspired the Boston Tea Party and helped bring an Empire to its knees.

The current top tax rate is 39.6%. Obama wants to raise that even more.

Not only do we pay that ridiculous top rate, but also the CA 9.6% income tax. So…we’re already close to the 50% rate. That’s only INCOME tax. Add to that, corporate tax — 35%, then the sales tax, and all the other taxes that we end up paying. Oh, and don’t forget the AMT.

Like I said in another post about 2 weeks ago, don’t you think if we’re already paying close to 2/3 of our income to taxes, isn’t that enough?

Obama would like to raise that top rate (actually more that just the top rate), close to 48 – 50%. And you folks call that fair?

The article Trevor found is linked below. Political Affairs Magazine, a publication of the Communist Party, USA.

Rethinking the History and Future of the Communist Party – by Gerald Horne

When these sources are explored, I think scholars of the future will be struck by, for example, the response in Honolulu when tens of thousands of workers went on strike when labor and CP leaders were convicted of Smith Act violations in 1953 – a response totally unlike the response on the mainland. Of course 98% of these workers were of Asian-Pacific ancestry, which suggests that scholars have also been derelict in analyzing why these workers were less anti-communist than their Euro-American counterparts. In any case, deploring these convictions in Hawaii was an African-American poet and journalist by the name of Frank Marshall Davis, who was certainly in the orbit of the CP – if not a member – and who was born in Kansas and spent a good deal of his adult life in Chicago, before decamping to Honolulu in 1948 at the suggestion of his good friend Paul Robeson. Eventually, he befriended another family – a Euro-American family – that had migrated to Honolulu from Kansas and a young woman from this family eventually had a child with a young student from Kenya East Africa who goes by the name of Barack Obama, who retracing the steps of Davis eventually decamped to Chicago. In his best selling memoir ‘Dreams of my Father’, the author speaks warmly of an older black poet, he identifies simply as “Frank” as being a decisive influence in helping him to find his present identity as an African-American, a people who have been the least anticommunist and the most left-leaning of any constituency in this nation – though you would never know it from reading so-called left journals of opinion. At some point in the future, a teacher will add to her syllabus Barack’s memoir and instruct her students to read it alongside Frank Marshall Davis’ equally affecting memoir, “Living the Blues” and when that day comes, I’m sure a future student will not only examine critically the Frankenstein monsters that US imperialism created in order to subdue Communist parties but will also be moved to come to this historic and wonderful archive in order to gain insight on what has befallen this complex and intriguing planet on which we reside.

You look anywhere in the world where a geography and people were divided into one part Communist and one part Capitalist. The Capitalist system always provides a better outcome for people.

    Capitalism >> Communism

    Yep, so true.

So here’s the plan…if Odumbo wins, anyone making $250,000/year should take a pay cut to $249,000/year.

Let’s see if he stays true to his word.

After all he did say anyone making under $250,000/year would get a tax cut.

I’m not kidding at all. She is far better than mccain ever thought of being. Of the four running for office, she is the only one who actually makes decisions and has the responsibility to run a state, people, budget etc. The other three only negotiate outcomes. They don’t have to care whether the outcome in is their favor or not. They still have their job and are probably in protected areas for the next election anyway. I would vote for Sarah as compared to any “conservative” running the last 20 years.

You have absolutely no understanding of why Conservatives want Sarah, not John, for President.

You have absolutely no understanding of why Sarah, not John, attracts tens of thousands of people to rallies.

You have absolutely no understanding of why Sarah is significantly more qualified for President than Barry Soetoro (a.k.a Barack Hussein Obama).

Barack has ZERO Executive Branch experience, you moron!

Sarah has risen from true grassroots (not astroturf) to become governor of the largest land mass state in the country, Commander-in-Chief of National Guard forces in the only state that has Russian aircraft infringe on its airspace.

Sarah is the real deal, while Barack is a fraud in every sense of the word.

What a (country) crock! Republicans want people making more than $250K to have a 36% tax rate, and Democrats want a 39% rate.

I would normally never do this for fear of the mod hammer coming down on me but I feel I must.
RSS, this statement proves that you are an idiot of galactic proportion.
See if you can do this simple math problem: Who has the more obscene profits? The company with one billion dollars of profit on one trillion dollars of sales, or the company with $500,000 profits on sales of two million dollars?
As you suggest, I should pay a $10,000 tax on my $50,000 income, and someone making $500,000 pays the same $10,000 tax, and that would be equitable?

I’ll wait while you mentally digest all of this.

    “Everyone” you know, one supposes.

It’s one thing to see tax obligations as a means of paying for societal costs like national defense, the Interstate Highway System, and the like. But that’s not “spreading the wealth around.”

That phrase is code for a resurrection of Great Society-style Welfare via confiscatory taxes in the name of “fairness” and income redistribution.

    There is a difference.

Why doesn’t somebody ask McCain why he hasn’t been wearing a flag pin on the campaign trail recently…why doesn’t he support our tropps [sic]?

Maybe that’s because unlike Hopenchange, McCain never made a big deal out of not wearing a flag pin while claiming that doing so was some kind of “false” patriotism. Ya think?

There will be a redistribution of wealth, once the democrats control the government, except, of course, for the liberal friends of the democrats, who will be able to keep their money, based on amendments to all the bills…like Hollywood types and fellow liberal congressmen, and those businesses, who supported them. Typical Soviet style government. Boy, are the old Soviet leaders smiling now. The proletariat (us) will be the payers, either through direct taxes, or higher-priced rationed goods (business/corporate taxes) that we’ll have to buy. This is simple “trickle down” economics. You regulate/tax business more, and the additional cost is passed on to the consumers. Either that, or businesses fold (like Mom/Pop), and scarcity of goods occur, just like the Soviet Union. For the liberals, exempt in their wealth, mission accomplished. And, like the Soviets, no-one will have ambition to accomplish anything or create anything, because it simply doesn’t pay. New drugs for example.
