Report: Credit card fraud for Obama

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 14, 2008 10:41 AM

Dead people. Fake people. Cartoon characters.

Now, it looks like Obama supporters are going after unsuspecting credit card fraud victims, too. Better check your Visa and Amex bills twice:

A North Kansas City couple has been left scratching their heads after they became the victims of a political scam.

Steve and Rachel Larman say a strange credit card charge appeared on their statement this month — a $2300 donation to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The Larman’s say they don’t want this to be about their political affiliation, but they say they’re not about to give the Obama campaign any help from their pocketbook.

They said they notified Chase, their credit card bank, to report the fraud.

“(They) said that they had seen-they were familiar with this,” said Steve Larman. “It was fraud, they believe through telemarketing but they were going to be doing some more investigations.”

The Larman’s don’t want their politics to enter into what is essentially just a fraudulent charge. But they say that the charge involves the Obama campaign adds insult to injury for the registered Republicans.

“They (Chase) kept on asking me ‘are you sure you wouldnt have gone to a site in support of Obama’,” said Rachel Larman. “And I repeatedly said ‘Im voting for McCain – I would not be going to an Obama site’.”

Chase dropped the charge from the Larman’s card. The couple is thankful thay they caught the charge on the card, but worried that others may not see that type of fraud on their own credit cards before it’s too late.

Fortunately, I keep a record of purchases on my Quicken and compare statements with it, as well as keep receipts. If something like that showed up, I would defintely stop the charge as well as looking into filing some sort of criminal charges. Let them see that “charge” on their own statements.

Actually, $2300 is the maximum amount that any individual can contribute to any campaign. Any contribution over $200 (IIRC) has to be publicly disclosed.

But the campaigns have to keep tallies of the lesser amounts, in order to ensure that donors don’t exceed the $2,300 limit over the course of the campaign.

Here’s the scam. It’s happened to me for three times. Though nonoe yet for Obama donations.

You use your card at a gas stations or convenience store. The attendant slyly takes a scan of both sides of the card, or uses a point of sale device that also records all your card info for later retrieval.

At some point, the collector shows up and immediately, starts charging on your card. Sometimes, they will produce an actually credit card with your number on it, but someone else’s name.

These are well organized crime rackets. Is anyone surprised they are linked to Obama?

Sometimes your bank will call you, as ours did in each case. But always check your statements, each and every month. And if you stop at an unfamiliar gas station, try to use cash, not your debit card.

This may be redundant, haven’t had time to read previous posts, but has there been a demand to the Obama campaign to explain the “contribution” . . . and is Obama keeping the money? If there is one couple who got ripped off by Team Obama supporters, how many of the millions of dollars Obama has collected are the result of similar credit card fraud. For that matter, if it is wide spread, is there possibly cyber criminal activity involved? Perhaps a great McCain TV ad would in the form of a credit fraud alert. Urge people to check their credit card bills closely for any unauthorized contributions to the Obama campaign. If there are any, it might be a mistake. Har.

And all McCain has to do is tick each “Obama Gate” off on his fingers during the next debate. . . if he will. Any one of these would sink any other candidate. And just to think, Dan Quail’s career was ruined because he mis-spelled potato.

    Let’s see now . . .
    - Credit card fraud
    - Voter registration fraud (ACORN)
    - Education fraud (Ayers)
    - Foreign policy obstruction (Delay in Iraq policy progress until after the election.)
    - Foreign policy insanity – (Kenya’s Odinga)
    - More shady foreign influences (al-Mansour)
    - More shady foreign associations (Rashid Kahlidi)
    - Obama/ACORN subprime-loan shakedown racket (root cause of the current economic melt-down)
    - Fraudulent use of the race card.
    - Voter intimidation.
    - You could probably throw in lying, obstruction of justice, slander, and a few other catch-alls.

I wonder why we conservatives haven’t bothered to coin more “*gates”? (”OCORN Gate”, “Ayers Gate”, “Odinga Gate”, “al-Mansour Gate”, Rashid Kahlidi Gate)

This man should NOT be president, and whether McCain likes it or not, he has the moral obligation to warn the American public.

Redistribution of wealth is nothing new for Democrats. They have been doing that for a long time with welfare, earned income credits, and governments grants to partisan groups like ACORN.

The only difference now is that they are cutting out the middle men and taking it directly from our bank accounts. I guess the old fashioned way – taxpayer income to IRS to Congress to Democrat support groups – has become too slow and inefficient.

I just wish we could get big government Republicans like McCain and Bush to recognize the same thing. Smaller government is better because it reduces the middle men who take an ever-increasing piece of the pie but produce nothing of value themselves. That would be change I could believe in…
