“Baffled:” Secret Service can’t find anyone to corroborate reporter’s “Kill them” claim

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 16, 2008 02:16 AM

The “Kill Them” claim spread like wildfire across the MSM as evidence of “insane rage” on the Right. Barack Obama mentioned it during the debate.

Now that the Secret Service has investigated and failed to find a single person to corroborate the reporter’s claim, I’m sure you’ll be seeing this on the front pages and nightly news lead stories in all the media outlets that spread it.

Right?

Riiiiiight.

The Times-Leader reports:

The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled “kill him” when presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s name was mentioned during Tuesday’s Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

The Scranton Times-Tribune first reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and then again in its print edition Wednesday. The first story, written by reporter David Singleton, appeared with allegations that while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Oabama’s name a man in the audience shouted “kill him.”

News organizations including ABC, The Associated Press, The Washington Monthly and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann reported the claim, with most attributing the allegations to the Times-Tribune story.

Agent Bill Slavoski said he was in the audience, along with an undisclosed number of additional secret service agents and other law enforcement officers and not one heard the comment.

“I was baffled,” he said after reading the report in Wednesday’s Times-Tribune.

He said the agency conducted an investigation Wednesday, after seeing the story, and could not find one person to corroborate the allegation other than Singleton.

Slavoski said more than 20 non-security agents were interviewed Wednesday, from news media to ordinary citizens in attendance at the rally for the Republican vice presidential candidate held at the Riverfront Sports Complex. He said Singleton was the only one to say he heard someone yell “kill him.”

“We have yet to find someone to back up the story,” Slavoski said. “We had people all over and we have yet to find anyone who said they heard it.”

How about Obama’ age? No one has mentioned yet how Obama can’t get his age right yet. He and I are both the same age according to his bio. He claims he was born August 4, 1961 (I was born July 4, 1961). That would make him 47 years old. Now, either Obama is a total moron and doesn’t know his own age, or he is lying because he has said a number of times and tonight in the debate is one of them, that, when refering to Ayers, “40 years ago I was 8″. UMmm…..there is something drastically wrong with that. How old are you, Obama? Where were you born? Where was your mother in 1960?

    Sounds familiar:

A Lufkin woman received a surprise visit from the Secret Service last week because of a “death threat” comment she reportedly made about Sen. Barack Obama to a campaign volunteer asking for her support of the presidential candidate.

Two federal agents arrived at Jessica Hughes’ home Thursday to ask her if she said, “I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.”

Hughes said her words were deliberately twisted by a volunteer who was apparently unhappy Hughes was rude during a phone conversation. The Lufkin mother, a Republican, said she received a call on her cellphone Wednesday from a woman with the Obama Volunteers of Texarkana.

“She asked if I was an Obama supporter, to which I replied, ‘No, I don’t support him. Your guy is a socialist who voted four times in the state Senate to let little babies die in hospital closets; I think you should find something better to do with your time.’ (And then) I hung up.”

Recently, Tammy Bruce was interviewed about the tactics of the left. She said that when she was on the left, they would plant their own operatives at rallies of the opposition do to this sort of thing (make loud or obscene comments) that of course the media would then pick up and immediately associate with the group having the rally (it never occurred to the wonderfully inquisitive media that these people could be plants?). I guess now they’re cutting out the middle man and reporting the falsehood without even bothering to have a prop to shout the remarks.

BTW, we never heard Obama once criticize any of the nasty and hateful things the left has said about the Palin family, or about GW Bush during the last 8 years, while he was talking about the uncivilized tone of the campaign. How wonderful to have such a selective and convenient memory of events. His lack of conscience will make him a wonderful leader dictator.

    Uncommitted Voters Give Kerry Nod
Choose Democrat As Debate Winner Over Bush In CBS Poll

    NEW YORK, Sept. 30, 2004

(CBS) Uncommitted voters who watched Thursday night’s presidential debate said John Kerry won the debate against President Bush, and most of those voters improved their opinion about the Democratic candidate because of the debate, according to a CBS News poll.

Forty-three percent of the uncommitted debate-watchers picked Kerry as the winner, while 28 percent chose Mr. Bush. Another 29 percent said it was a tie.

Kerry also made significant inroads on ratings for his potential to handle Iraq and on likeability, two areas where he had been trailing Mr. Bush.

Immediately after the debate, CBS News interviewed a nationally representative sample of more than 200 debate watchers assembled by Knowledge Networks who were “uncommitted voters” – voters who are either undecided about who to vote for or who have a preference but say they could still change their minds.

    WHO WON THE DEBATE
    (Uncommitted Voters Who Watched Debate)

    Kerry
    43%

    Bush
    28%

    Tie
    29%

More than half of the uncommitted voters said that their image of Kerry had changed for the better as a result. Just 14 percent said their opinion of Kerry had gotten worse, and one-third did not change their opinion.

    Now doesn’t that look familiar?

That reminds me, he keeps saying that the Ayers bombing happened “40 years ago, when I was 8″…that would make his birth in 1960…and where was he born again? Why hasn’t he shown evidence of this? Perhaps it’s not necessary to prove where/when he was born if his mother was a U.S. Citizen…but it sure seems odd that the math doesn’t work.

There you go! NBC News would have been all over it, and the NYT, Dowd and Rich anyways, would still be reeling in a the throws of a full-bore conniption fit. There’s no tape because no one said it.

It doesn’t matter if its true or not now, after Obama mentioned it at the debate its ‘known’. It wouldn’t matter if it was completely debunked by the entire media, it will live on. Comparing a non lethal technique used against people that kill innocent civilians to extract information to save other lives
