Joe The Plumbers are everywhere. They’re speaking up in Tennessee:
Joe Schwark, owner of JMS Plumbing in Spring Hill, said he has a general distrust of politicians, but appreciated the recognition of his craft.
“Personally, I don’t think either of them is what the country needs,” he said. “But it is what it is.”
Schwark said he agrees with the original Joe the plumber’s problem with raising taxes for people who earn more than $250,000 a year. Taxes are the plight of the small-business owner, he said.
“I work for every penny,” he said. “Taxes are what kills me, and if either of them raise taxes, it hurts people like me. You know, we jump though hoops as business owners. There is liability and vehicle insurance, and there are gas prices. For every dollar that comes in, it’s going out.”

Now let me tell you that many news outlets are getting the story right, that Joe’s boss, Mr. Newell (in business since 1974, God bless you sir, I’m sure you could never have imagined all this happening to you in America), is in fact licensed in Lucas County. How do I know? Because the State of Ohio’s computers told me so, and they would tell the media the same if they looked…like I did.
Mr. Newell is licensed. He is licensed in Lucas County. His license number starts with the digits 329 and then has two more digits. I don’t see any need to post more identifying information about innocent people. Search here, plug in the right parameters, and you can download the list of all licensed plumbers in Lucas County, Ohio. It is not difficult, though you have to provide information about yourself as the requester of the information.
So I got this list of licensees.
Mr. Newell is on that list. And if I read the rules of apprenticeship correctly (I am not an Ohio attorney, and yes I could be reading it wrong), the reported date of November 2003 as the date of filing of Joe’s apprenticeship papers seems to be just fine. According to this,
“The Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board (O.C.I.L.B.), Department of Commerce, Division of Industrial Compliance, issues state commercial licenses to the following contractors: electrical, HVAC, hydronics, plumbing, and refrigeration. To receive a state license, an applicant must meet the following requirements: 1) be at least 18 years of age; 2) be a United States citizen or a legal alien-must provide proof of being a legal alien; 3) either have been a tradesperson in the type of licensed trade for which the application is filed for not less than five years immediately prior to the date the application is filed, currently be a registered engineer in this state with three years of business experience in the construction industry in the trade for which the engineer is applying to take the examination, or have other experience acceptable to the appropriate section of the board; 4) not have been convicted of or plead guilty to a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or of any felony; 5) pass the examination in the trade; 6) carry minimum $500,000 contractor liability coverage; 7) pay the applicable fees”
So here’s the point. Many news outlets have gotten it correct, but some have not and that needs to be corrected. Mr. Newell is licensed, and Joe the Plumber is just short of his five years before he can apply for licensure, but as supervised by Newell, he’s o.k.. You can look at screen captures of the entire list of Lucas County licensed plumbers here (part 1) and here (part 2). And as we read the news stories about local officials mobilizing to put Joe out of work, (quote: “A staff person with the Toledo Division of Building Inspection told On Call this afternoon that her division will contact Wurzelbacher to notify him that he can’t work without a license. “We’re trying to track him down,” she said”), consider the following:
Not one of the officers of Local 50 of the union shop of plumbers is on the list of licensees. Disclaimer: I don’t care that none of them are on the list, and I know that not necessarily every one of the union officers are plumbers at all, as they also represent other trades. That said, their spokesman is on record slamming Joe about licensure.
To their credit, an ACORN spokesman has weighed in that, “There is no such thing as an undocumented plumbing person.”
I made that last part up. Now I’m going to go watch some football.

I am really really sick of hearing about Joe the Plumber.

Joe the Plumber isn’t the issue.
The issue is Obama’s mask slipping and his open endorsement of socialism.
My fav new T-shirt logo (saw it on an acquaintance yesterday) : “I AM JOE THE PLUMBER.”
I think that can be discussed without:
1) setting this guy up as some paragon of the “everyman” and exploiting that image for political gain; and
2) dragging this guy through the mud by digging up every detail of his personal life no matter how trite or irrelevant.
We’re just trying to spread it around to all sides so everyone has a little more Joe, ya know. It’s good for everyone.
There is more than one issue here.
Nobody set up the guy as a paragon of virtue. In fact, we all think he is a “regular joe” which implies, well, a regular guy with warts and blemishes like all regular guys and gals.
One of the bigger problems is that the MSM is trying to run a smear campaign against this guy and are evidently ignoring some pretty obvious facts in their rush to destroy him. And they are obviously out to destroy him.
The biggest issue is why is the “fair and balanced” (or is that “fairly unbalanced”) MSM putting more time into destroying Joe than they have ever put into learning anything about Obama?
Well, we all know why and I hope the obvious answer will convince some Obama supporters that they are being lied to by Obama and the MSM.
Isn’t that what the MSM has done with B Hussein Obama, at Oprah’s behest?
Are you not sick about the idea he hammered your guy and is going through this character assassination for it? Are you not sick of how the media will come down on a man for stepping on your brotha’s toes? That is what WE are sick of. I don’t know if “paragon” is the same as “messiah.” I’ll have to look that up in a theology dictionary.
In my state we have four levels for craftsmen like this.
Helpers, Journeymen (who have completed a training course and a couple of years on the job experience), licensed plumbers who have taken the state exam for certification and licensed Master Plumbers who have taken a more in depth exam.
All people working for a company work under the license of the owner or is certified Master Plumber so designated on his staff. They are the ones legally responsible for the work performed under their supervision.
For work that requires a permit in my area I can hire a plumber or I can hire a plumber to certify that the work I did was up to code and met the requirements and he signs off the permit that was drawn under his license.
Small incidental plumbing repair does not require a permit but major work does and anything that impacts the sewer system requires a plumber for public health reasons.

2: To reveal the hatchet job the MSM is doing on an innocent man whose only crime is to dare to question the Obamessiah and reveal their double standard and lack of journalistic integrity.

I do not care what it takes to be a plumber, what the licensing requirements are, how much money they make, etc….Why do we allow the MSM and liberals to dictate by changing the focus of discussion, whatever stupid direction the discussion will go.

How is using Joe the Plumber to put a face on an issue any different than the bleeding heart liberals showcasing a 100000 to 1 odds example of protecting the health of the mother during an abortion. Or some hypothetical happening that never happens to further their cause.

With one simple question, Joe the Plumber dope slapped Barak Hussein Obama like no one has ever done before. Barak responded by stuffing his own foot down his throat. Since the MSM doesn’t have the ability to respond to Joe’s question or Obama’s answer (that would require that they were honest about their chosen candidate and destroy his campaign) they have to attack and destroy the messenger.
To entertain a legitimate discussion of Joe the Plumbers question and Barak’s response would require an intelligence and maturity unseen in the American press. Therefore the destruction of Joe the Plumer is required as a sacrifice to their chosen Messiah.

You have to remember the democrats think you are unpatriotic if you don’t pay taxes and you don’t pay them GLADLY…Now these propertytaxes may be due but are they reasonable?- probably NOT. I think we should bring up the fact that PROPERTY TAX for the MOST PART is GOVERNMENT THEFT THAT KEEPS ON STEALING FROM YOUR SAVINGS…lets have a discussion about this travesty. Our School district just tried to raise our local school property tax by .13 per 100 value- (it really adds up believe me) but we stopped that- by a vote of approx. 1000 to 700.. so now they can not use those gas guzzler buses OR have extra activities at the school.WHERE IS THE MONEY THEY JUST GOT LAST YEAR??? Do not let your school district rob you of any more of your money- when they don’t produce good results- SUPPORT YOUR HOME SCHOOLING or SIMILAR- especially when you see the results these days…Oh yes there are always exceptions-but those students would do better without a PUBLIC/GOV’T education.

He claims his plans will take money from people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet et. al but “Joe the Plumber” shot that charade full of holes and Obama. caught without a teleprompter, revealed the awful fact that his (Obama’s) plan will, in fact, take a lot of money from a lot of “average joes” when Obama claims otherwise.
But Gates and Buffet and their friends know how to shelter income. Joe and I and you probably can’t play those same games. I know I don’t have a few billion laying around to shelter. I live on slightly less than what I make.
Remember, that if the US government can take from anyone it can take from everyone. And Obama will end up taking from a lot more people than he wants us to realize at this point.

You can’t win with property taxes. If citizens vote down property tax rate increases the local government will increase your assessment. They can do that without a vote and you have to go to a government agency to fight the assessment.
Leftists in local government are stealing homeowners blind and forcing many real estate problems. And it will get worse as the local revenues continue to decline as the real estate crisis created by the federal government continues.

Recall the trouble poor Tom Dewey got into when he called the train engineer an “idiot” for accidentally backing up a a short space into the crowd during an October whistle stop. It is the incident that is often credited by historians with turning the campaign around for Truman, though no one quite realized it at the time. How did this happen? Well, the train engineer suddenly became emblematic of the American working man, here maligned by the indifferent and insensitive Republican. You can write the editorial yourself.
Now that this is working against a Democrat, possibly with the same effect, the media and liberals in general are all quite upset. Had McCain made this mother of all gaffes, you can be sure the race would be over. Yes, it would be so much nicer if we could all sit down and rationally discuss the issues, point by point, like proper gentlemen and ladies. Ain’t going to happen. American elections are circuses and that won’t change until there are no more elections.
