Saturday Night Live: open thread; Sarah Palin’s a good sport
Sarah Palin is reportedly in NY for a spot on Saturday Night Live tonight.
Supporters gathered outside NBC studios in advance of her guest appearance.
Here’s your open thread for anyone planning to tune in for the show.
Meantime, NBC is slashing its budget:
A trade paper reports that NBC Universal plans to cut $500 million in spending next year to prepare for an expected continuation of the worldwide economic slowdown.
Variety says President and CEO Jeff Zucker announced the cuts Friday in a staff memo. The reduction would equal 3 percent of the company’s budget.
Variety says division heads will decide how to reduce their spending. But Zucker’s memo suggested several ways, including staffing reductions and cutbacks in budgets for travel, entertainment and promotions.
Feel free to offer budget-cutting proposals for NBC/MSNBC.

Hmmm:
“Political blogs are buzzing about Sarah Palin appearing on “Saturday Night Live” tonight. It looks like Gov. Palin might have a difficult time in front of the live audience and hot lights — and she has yet to see a script!
Palin spoke with talk show host Neal Boortz Friday morning on his syndicated radio program. She told Boortz she had not seen a copy of the show’s script, “They haven’t even hinted about what that script is going to say.” Will Palin be improvising? The Alaska governor isn’t worried. She said appearing on “SNL” would give her the chance to “rise above the political shots that we take.”

Update: 12:01am Eastern…
Won’t give it away for those of you on the West Coast, but here’s commenter Ronnie’s reaction at HA:
“Nothing will come of this except Sarah Palin will be perceived as a good sport.”
And two more general reactions:
“Meh” and “huh?”
Update: 8:51am Eastern… Here’s the vid:

DUDE.
I really dread this. It can’t turn out good.
Tina Fey will draw a mustache on Sarah, then dump a bucket of pig’s blood on her.
Sarah will just laugh it off.
Sell your building to the Saudis and use the cash to buy Olbermann a brain. Give me half of the money for coming up with such a great idea. Thanks.
Maybe Sarah will say, if Barack Obama becomes the next President of the United States she will move out of the country and live next door to Alex Baldwin. Hmmm… I don,t know if anyone would want to live next door to that A$$ H@le. TALK ABOUT A JERK!
Tho you could be right, RR, I tend to disagree. I expect Sarah will do just fine. Even being “booed” – by that crowd – would be a plus. I assume she’s way too bright to let them put idiotic/anti-America words in her mouth to spew. Have faith in The Sarah, RR!
That’s soooo early 90s, see-dub.
I think the world of Sarah Palin. And I don’t see how this could go well. If you wrestle with pigs, you’re going to get dirty. With or without lipstick. I mean, she is so far above all of them, in my opinion. And so many of them hate her. Intense, irrational hate. I don’t hate Obama, and I don’t want to destroy him. I think he’s overrated, extreme leftist, smiling, empty, rock star, narcissistic, didn’t have a daddy, still struggles with questions of his own racial identity and what it means to him. I’ll post feedback after Palin appears on SNL.
Just some guy from the neighborhood.
Whom I saw every day at the water fountain, the elevator, the restroom, the refrigerator…
Ahem, Dude.
How about Sarah Palin as Katie Couric interviewing Tina Fey as Sarah Palin?
I think Alex Bald-one and Joyless Blowhard should comfort each other and live unhappily ever after. Since Whoopee! (Yes,I am aware of the spelling) thinks that McCain wants her to be a salve again, maybe she won’t mind serving Joyless and Smart Alex. We wish them all well.
I don’t think that anything good will come of this any more than McCain’s Letterman appearance. Poor judgement.
I think NBC needs to reduce staff starting at the top and working their way down. First, Zucker, then Capus, then….
She won’t be booed. The SNL crowd is very welcoming to conservatives for a bunch of mostly liberal New Yorkers. McCain has been on multiple times, and things have gone great. George H.W. was on back in the day with Carvey. Sarah will innocently make fun of her image, people will laugh, the media will cover it mildly till Monday night, and then everyone will move on.
Bud–
That’s seriously a fricking commie RED STAR on Bill Ayers’ blog?
Damn commies never quit torturing McCain, have they?
You could give all the regular viewers tin foil hats to cut down on transmission costs.
Dubya
Saw this link earler and #2s VinceP comment. Read the whole thing, this needs to get out a lot more.

Yes, I was taken back by that. If you mull the comments over I warn you it gets worse.
So are they cutting their spending by 3% to pay for the 3% increase in taxes they’ll have to pay if Obama becomes president?
The National Stop Obama Tour are in New Mexico now. Read continuous updates and blog posts on MarkTalk.com and more photos are on Free Republic. They sure know how to attract attention all across the country — (They are running Ads in many states). Liberals salute them and get irate everywhere they go, while conservatives are cheering, donating and following them.
They may be coming to a city near you, go see them and support their mission.
Hey bedje, maybe she’ll say that if Barack becomes prez she’s moving forward with her plan to help Alaska secede from the US.
I’d say that’s a good scenerio as to how things will shake out, MsJ. But if Sarah were booed or if some liberals disrupted the telecast, I think it would be a net plus for McCain/Palin.
If she does half as good as McCain did at the Al Smith dinner it will be a knock out… but I can’t support supporting SNL/NBC, giving this much power to a TV show is part of the reason that we are where we are.
I’m generally not an angry person, but I’m getting so angry that we are about to elect Obama. His versions of his relationship with Wright and Ayers are so weaselly, they’re Clintonesque, they’re worse than that. Admitting only what he needs to admit. Whining about how he’s a victim. I still haven’t read the major newspaper endorsements he got today — Chicago, LA, Wash. They should be good for a laugh.
Howzabout a skit with Sarah playing John Edwards’ bimbo, *unter. Or was it Hunter?
I forget.
Trig could play the ‘love child’.
Darrell Hammond could be John.
They are hanging out in John’s World (party on, excellent ) When Elizabeth (played by Tina Fey) walks in.
Not funny at all-
vsatt, then I’ll be strongly considering moving to Alaska. Just have to clear it with my “Boss Lady” (much like Sarah).
Bud, I got yer “DUDE!” moment right right here.
If I could find this in seconds, the MSM could have found it. This is Osama Obama’s “just some guy.”
I want to vomit now. We’re in deep dung if The Messiah wins.
Now now don’t go assuming the red star is for communism. Macy’s uses that star as their symbol. Maybe he’s secretly trying to signal a change of heart.
Yeah right.
All of the networks will have to cut back after squandering so many of their resources on promoting Obama this past year or so.
My bet – Gov. Palin (as Tina Fey) co-hosting Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. Seth is head or co-head writer, I believe, and his ego would naturally want to have Sarah as his co-host.
Hook – Sarah reads pro-McCain/Palin news items, then Tina Fey comes in, exposes the “fraud”, then starts reading pro-Obama news items.
I think NBC should sell MSNBC and fire all of those idiots that work there. That would save them a bunch of money. It would also help with global warming by cutting down on hot house gases.
By the way–this is funnier than anything you’ll see on SNL.
Hey NBC: Want to increase revenue; Offer up Olberdork as Obama’s press secretary and people might start watching football on your network again.
Sarah Smile — by Lloyd Marcus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIkZiEp8460
Lloyd Marcus, http://www.LloydMarcus.net, sings a song he wrote about Sarah Palin today at Albuquerque Rally supporting John McCain/Palin. Karen sings God Bless America.
There’s bound to be a plumber joke.
I love Palin. This will be the first time I’ve watched SNL “L” in decades.
The best thing NBC can do for thier budget is: continue to not have Matthews and Olbermann on the air at the same time. When those two were featured together, it led to way more sexual tension than even the worst deviates want to see.
I just watched the promo for SNL. It’s interesting that Sarah Palin is on when Josh Brolin the “star of of an Oliver Stone movie bashing the President is hosting. When will they learn?
Watching the intro, hoping that Sarah will come out and just give Tina a good shove.
Alec didn’t even bother to learn his lines.
I’m starting to remember why I haven’t watched it in ages. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
Stephen has a purrty mouth.
Meh. Kinda lame.
Harmless but LAAAAAME.
All she did was say “Live from NY…”
Anyone read Peggy Noonan’s column today?
http://online.wsj.com/article/declarations.html
I’ve always enjoyed Peggy, but she’s sounding a little bitter…The pundits seem to think that Sarah isn’t pulling her weight with the campaign. Here’s how I see it..Governor Palin’s job when she accepted the VP spot was to make sure that I (and others like me) voted for the Republican this year. Until she joined in the fun, I was going to leave my vote blank. So, if I’m still voting, I’d say she’s pulling her weight.
Being on the west coast the only things we get to see “live” on television is sports events, cable news and political convention speeches … everything else is tape delayed …
Saw Josh Brolin on Conan this week, hawking “W”.
Obnoxious doesn’t begin to describe that oafish, foul-mouthed, over-privileged, prima donna (or ‘don’).
Sarah – poke him a good one in the nose for me. Or maybe a hockey style elbow to that jutting chin.
DesertLover, don’t wait up for it. It was pretty lame.
Anyone else notice how blatent Alec Baldwin was in exposing SNL and Lorne’s liberal/lefty bias? He even said “Lorne, she goes against everything we stand for” or something to that effect.
I thought there was an equal time law. How can a show like SNL outright put down Mccain and Palin, The republicans, etc.
I’m tired of the left. We are screwed ‘08.
You know you’re getting old when you remember watching SNL when it was funny.
NJ can use some more conservatives.
Josh Brolin is on, putting down a standing president. You know, I dunno but back in the day, even if you did not like a president, you did not disrespect him like this when he was a standing president.
You may not respect the man, but you ahve to respect the office.
This IDIOT Brolin is doing the monolouge and Stone has a cameo. I’m tuning it off.
Scared, it is going to be even more horrible after the election no matter the outcome.
I’m pretty sure that SNL is taped for it’s “live” broadcast also.
I dunno. It was so convoluted, I didn’t know WHAT to make of it.
Remember, we knew more about Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber in two days after their introduction to the American people than we know about Barack Obama in 2 years after his start for the run for the presidency. I wonder whose fault that is…
No, that was done away with, and thankfully so. If Pelosi Galore gets her way, that ‘fairness doctrine’ will be back, and you really don’t want that. It would likely be the end of conservative talk radio and blogs.
Yeah, my critique is “eh..”. Machts nicht either way. Dull, at best.
Sarah was a class act but SNL went out of their way to do an average skit with her. It was a bunch of libs. surrounding Sarah and didn’t have anything to do with anything. I hope McCain/Palin take care of this crap come election day.
Tho I will be interested in reading Michelle’s take on it.
At least she didn’t go to a Japanese restaurant and have a lobster pinch her nose. What a great show.
I’d like to see her kill and an animal, and make a fur coat for Obama.
Honestly,
What will happen in the Obama presidency? This is a serious question. What do you guys think will really happen?
Some questions I have are:
1. Will conservative talk radio now be limited and restricted, censored on in the name of “fairness”?
2. Is being a caucasian person now a reason to be afraid for your life?
3. Is being a christian now taboo and going to be restricted?
4. Is being any of those things now considered a hate crime?
Was that skit typical of the show these days? That was absolutely stupid. Not funny – stupid.
I’m nervous too — but am just going to trust that she’ll do fine.
Yes, That skit was typical of the show these days.
It’s no longer funny, even the laugh track wasn’t playing.
I didn’t get the Japanese restaurant skit.
1-yes
2-no
3-no, yes
4-Only if you oppose the progress of regress.
Now I know who Ayers reminds me of.
Is that going to be Sarah Palin’s only appearance, in the opening skit? If so, I can turn it off now. It has been very unfunny so far. This show really is just awful.
Their three viewers already wear them.
I think that means your brain is functioning normally.
Lorne Michael is a Republican and has donated the max to McCain. I’m not surprised he appeared in the skit with her but man, that skit just sucked. Awful.
four opened pizza boxes lined with pampers…that’s funny
Maybe during Weekend Update?
thanks marco. I feel better now.
Now, imagine a comedy skit in which Barack Obama stands in the presence of someone who is openly critical of him. Would he be able to hold back the tears long enough to order the execution?
If he gets elected, he’ll have two titles: “President of the United States of America”, and “Mahmoud’s B!#%h.”
So, do the cast members all read from cue cards in lieu of learning their lines?
How can anybody stand to watch that?
The Mark Wahlberg sketch was actually sorta funny but I like Mark Wahlberg, he’s a good catholic.
doh! Mountain time will not be live.
I should just go to bed.
scaredforamerica said:
I didn’t get it. Or the skit at the Japanese dinner, or, well, anything so far.
Wahlberg knew his lines, but the big nosed guy never even looked at him while his character was “talking” to him.
Ok, this Poheler thing is funny.
honestly, is this normal for the show?
I quit watching it before that. The last time it was funny was with Garret Morris, John Belushi, Jane Curtain, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, etc.
This is torture.
The only equal time then will only come from conservative or even just moderate venues.
…all other lefty venues such as PBS, the drive-by media, etc., will get a free pass.
Like they do now when committing voter fraud all over the US…or any other crime.
Yes, me too. John Belushi could make absolutely anything funny.
Yawn! Time for bed. She didn’t have to study those lines — let’s see, what were they? Oh, yeah, “Caribou Barbie”, and, “My favorite Baldwin is your brother, Steven.” Ok, she’s a good sport. And for waiting to see if she was going to do anything else, we can to listen to Josh Brolin do bad George W imitations. Sorry, folks, this really sucked.
I liked the Bee’s skit where they were accusing one of them of buzzing off. It was like at a camp or something. Some other older person came in and explained something about how someone famous buzzed off.
The lights went out, and all their beds started squeaking from buzzing off.
…or the Samurai skits.
…or the one in which Belushi played some woman with breasts hanging down to his belly button. When he turned they swung way around to his side.
…or the one where he played a chef that cut his hand and bled all over.

So is the conclusion that McCain is a Republican?
this is the worst. Should have gone to bed about an hour ago…good night, all.
Walter Mathau. Freaking Belushi got one of his antenna going in a little teeny circle. Between that and the eyebrow, Mathau struggled like hell to deliver his lines like the pro he is.
That’s one of my all time favorites too.
Oh yes “Save The Liver!”
…and the giblets if I remember right.
You got that right.
(The etc. being Dan Ackroyd and Laraine Newman.)
Sarah is back! Haha, the Todd impersonator is kinda funny. First laugh of the night.
Bwaaaah! Insane!
Run the Marxists out of the government!! I AM JOE!!
Another non appearance for Weekend Update. Strange. I mean, she was there, but hardly. Just a few words.
OK, that was much funnier. “I say Obama, you say Ayers!”
i do believe i am getting dumber watching this show…yes, yes, there goes another IQ point…
I thought it was great. If she would have done more acting it could have been more fodder for the left. It probably will be anyway.
The rap was off the hooK! Fo shizzle! Thug thizzle! An al dat! Yo!
Oh man, that Weekend Update skit with Amy rapping about Palin (since Palin won’t do it) was awesome. Very funny!
