The Colin Powell endorsement: Triumph of hope over reality

Gravitas.
The media’s in a tizzy over Colin Powell’s Meet the Press endorsement of Barack Obama this morning.
It’s not a surprise to anyone who’s paid attention to his pro-Obama murmurings over the last four months.
How will people outside the Beltway bubble respond?
Yawn.
Here’s the vid:
Powell’s embrace of Barack Obama is a triumph of hope over reality. He told Tom Brokaw that Obama’s “steadiness” and “not jumping in and changing every day” convinced him that The One was ready to lead.
Hello?
Guess Powell relied on Obama’s website after he purged his surge criticism from it.
Powell then goes on to pooh-pooh Obama’s longtime “limited relationship” with Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers as an “issue that is not central” to the campaign — just as evidence of the closeness of these two very chummy “neighbors” mounts.
Judgment, schmudgment, eh, Secretary Powell?
Finally, we arrive at the real reason Powell is endorsing Obama: The party, he complains, has become too “narrow” for his tastes. Pro-abortion Powell can’t stand the thought of two more Republican Supreme Court appointments. He thinks Sarah Palin is too conservative. He shares the Obama view of our base as racist and non-inclusive — but has nothing to say about the rabid pack of America-damning preachers who helped make Obama the “transformational” figure Powell has placed his faith in.
Powell also makes reference to all the Obama-is-a-Muslim rumors, blaming the Republican Party for all that. Never mind the Democrat Hillary backers like Bob Kerrey and on down to her grass-roots supporters who indulged themselves and trafficked in those very rumors Powell smears conservatives for spreading.
The orgy of Obamedia attention Powell will receive the next 24 hours is disproportionate to its importance.
The press only loves maverick Republicans when they jump in bed with Democrats.
Just ask John McCain.
***
One last note: I see in comments that many believe Powell supports Obama because he is black. Powell has said electing a black president would be “electrifying.” He is a staunch supporter of government racial preferences.
It’s a mistake, though, to attribute Powell’s endorsement primarily to some kind of race loyalty.
It’s Obama’s social liberalism, not his skin color, that attracts Powell most.

I’m assuming you took that in the spirit it was meant.
General Colin Powell’s endorsement of Obama hurts. I have listened to him speak over the years and I still have the highest respect for his integrity and service to our country. I wish he were the candidate for president instead of the O’bummer. I would trust him to do a good job for all. He is not a racist.
General Powell may change his mind after seeing the Messiah in action.
John Bibb
Wow. On that note, I guess I’ll get off and go exercise, before the “usuals” come and things turn silly.
I’ll come back to be “slayed” another day FamilyMan.
Have a good one folks.
Colin Powell thinks Oblama is steady–you have to be kidding me. This guy was never a conserative–he just served in conservative administrations. What the hell does he think Ooooblama will do to the military. He obviously doesn’t want anymore children punished with a baby. Maybe he can arrange a sit down with the Iranian madman and talk about hope and change —until he lobs a damn nuke on the U.S. Barack won’t salute the flag that many soldiers died for under General Powell’s command. Let the lefties fawn over this–I wonder how military families will view this–only makes me want Obama to get his a## thourghly kicked on 11/4.
On October 19th, 2008 at 12:34 pm, SpeakEasy said:
Wellll… wimping out on the “highway of death,” getting Bush Sr. to quit the first Gulf War, and as a result letting Sadam fester in Iraq for years and years… honorably maybe… smartly, no.
Absolutely.
How come when Colin Powell promoted Bush’s “lies,” he was not someone to be believed or trusted, but now that he’s endorsed Obama, he is someone to be . . . believed and trusted?
I can’t believe I am saying this, but, I Agree With Mistressjustice! There, I said it.
So Powell just proved that he is not above being racist.
Barry probably promised him a sweet job too.
Here’s an interesting quote from that Clinton Democrats for McCain site about the Powell endorsement:
Yeah, how about that…
I think MM is dead wrong on that last issue…it’s got nothing to do whatsoever with social liberalism. Powell was a political general, rarely if ever in charge of anything of substance, and always heavily dependent on his subordinates. His specialty was, frankly, using his race and being a yes-man to whoever held power of his promotion. He started leaving the Bush group and hedging his bets shortly after becoming secretary of state, and lets not forget that he was never a conservative to begin with, given his policies while secretary. I suspect he’s planned his political future well, and envisions himself either the future secretary of defense or ambassador to the u.n., with the possibility of running for office himself next election cycle. It started getting smelly when he failed to fully back the war, given the intelligence he saw via sr-71 and keyhole sat imagery, which he knew wasn’t faked yet would hurt his agenda; he’s very capable at riding the line between sides and only choosing when he thinks there is a clear winner and something in it for him. As a gulf war veteran, I personally resent the political clique of generals making their careers on the sacrifice of others; a real general stands above politics and serves the nation. I haven’t thought highly of powell for quite some time, but now I rank him as a pelosi and a reid, long on self promotion but d=mned short on service and faith.
Yeah, how about that? See my post above…Democrats want to know too.
Come ON folks. Colin Powell was never more a conservative than anyone else who’s endorsing Obama is.
The Republican Party is finished, and we can all thank RINO’s like Dubya, John McCain, and Colin Powell for its demise. There is no political body for Americans who love liberty and freedom anymore. The Republican party has utterly betrayed this nation, and has given it over to soviet-styled brutes like Obama and Biden.
Mark my words. Soon after the election a “heaven sent” (how Hitler described the crisis caused by the Reichstag fire in 1933) crisis will occur that will enable the socialsts and fascists to take complete control of all the media (no more conservative programing on TV and radio), and they will begin seizing all privately-owned firearms. Also, this will be the last so-called “free election” we will see in our lifetimes.
I really do think it says more about the person doing the endorsing than it says about who’s being endorsed.
Like many of the Generals in the military Powell is just another political animal. This last minute indorsement just proves how low some of them will go to get what they want the country be damned. Sorry General but your indorsement aint worth a hill of beans.
I would agree. Bush’s daddy was head of the CIA. Look at who his grandfather was also. Look at McCains pedigree.
Side note: Research all of the ‘Talking Heads’, Pundits and those persons at the highest levels of government and media. Look at who their parents, grandparents and school assocations are.
There are very few Sarah Palins or Joe the Plumbers out there. Even Bill Clinton didnt come from nowhere BFE Arkansas on his own.
Find out who the Rum runners and the Blocade runners during prohibition and prior to the world wars were. A lot of those families are now those sacrosanct experts we turn to on a daily basis for advice. Its “old” money that has been washed and laundered too many times to be tracked.
My three reasons:
1. Powell’s liberalism; he’s always been a RINO
2. Race
3. Revenge against the Bush admin for the Iraq War
Amen!!
Leaving now. Vikings-Bears game!! Go Vikes!
Hello all,
Folks, what is all this doom and gloom. The election is not over. BO has not won. There is over two weeks to go. Do not put so much stock in polls, they have lied to us before. As I recall Kerry was up 10 around this time four years ago. The polls have always had a history of leaning toward the democrat candidate.
As far as Powell is concerned. He has always supported left leaning views. There is no surprise here.
In the common fashion of a media that has no integrity, a media that has no concept of truth, justice, fact or fairness, they embrace a man a they once vilified simply because he now agrees with their propaganda.
General Powell was a good soldier. He was a lousy politician as he himself admits. At this point he is simply jumping on the bandwagon to support a fellow African American and regain his popularity with the media. Is this racists? By every indicator, provided by the MSM, Yes it would be charged as definite racism provided BO was a Republican. However, BO is a Socialist, ergo a charge of racism is not allowed to be levied.
To keep it simple, Powell’s endorsement can do just as much damage as it can do good for BO. I expect it will have little impact on the race in the long run. However, it will have long term damaging effects on Powell’s reputation as he aligns himself with a Socialist Agenda.
Have a great day all
I know. MJ was very rational this morning. Wait until she comes back and tries defend some liberal social issue.
EXACTLY
People seem to forget that Powell was nothing but Bush41’s McClellan during Gulf War I. The attack into Kuwait came over his fervent objections, although he was happy to stand up and take credit after it succeeded. I have seen claims that he was also a constant source of leaks to the media. Whatever else he is, he’s no conservative, and has over the past 15 years been a constant pain in the butt to conservatives and Republicans. So what if he endorsed Obama. It comes as no surprise to anyone who has paid any attention to his actions in the past, although I’m sure the media will try to play it up as if he were Patton.
I now put Powell in the same category as Oprah and many other prominent blacks. Do not do what is good for your country, do what is good for your race.
I think that to suggest that Powell was the first “affirmative action” Join Chief of Staff of our armed forces is a valid one. The winning strategy of the first Gulf war did not in any way come from Powell, but rather General Norman Schwarzkopf. The success of the entire campaign was due to the leadership skill of Schwarzkopf. Powell just stood there and accepted the acclaim and credit.
So, the first affirmative action Joint Chief of Staff over our armed forces has endorsed the first affirmative action Democrat presidential nominee (soon to be first affirmative action president of the United States). It was due to happen inevitably.
I fully admit I’m angry we’re about to elect Obama. McCain keeps showing himself as a decent and very experienced person who understands conservative principles even though he only sometimes hews to them. And Palin, she is just wonderful. And Obama. Shading and shifting, glib, charming, no executive experience at all, has displayed no leadership so far, in short, a cult of personality. Who knows what Senator Government will bring us, but more government. Obama’s election will be the will of the people, who prefer to feel good over doing what’s right. The future doesn’t look good.
Paul, you’re playing right into the hands of the Obama people. That’s exactly the attitude they’re hoping will land this tool in the White House..
Don’t fall into the trap of inevitability! It’s a strategy they’re using, and the media is falling for it.
Let’s not forget that Richard Armitage told his boss, Colin Powell, that he was the person who leaked Valerie Plame’s identity to the press. What did Powell do? He chose to sit on his a** and say nothing while Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby got raked over the coals for the leak. What a first class, ethical guy. He’ll fit right in with Nancy Pelosi’s “most-ethical Congress” as Obama’s Secretary of Defense.
Actually, right or wrong, I believe that those were strategic decisions. Sadam was contained and he festered in place while we used him as our useful idiot. He bought us time to position and properly deploy our forces to the Gulf region. We werent ready in 91 or 96 to take Afghanistan or Iran yet. The slaughter of the Shias and Kurds by Saddam were just a bonus that was “out of our control” at the time.
bin Laden just played into our hands but he advanced our time schedule before we had all of the pieces in place.
But you go to war with the forces you have at the time…
No one should get on their high horse that the American military is unique (negative-wise). Dont forget that just because we broadcast every move we make to the world, doesnt mean that China, Russia or dictatorial countries dont make people disappear by the thousands or millions.
The military is not a jobs program. Its an organization that KILLS people in order to establish the political will of its host country. (If the country’s objetive acquiesces, then no one dies)
MM Said: “It’s Obama’s social liberalism, not his skin color, that attracts Powell most.”
For blacks, when it comes to Obama there is no difference. He is victimhood, “give me some” and racist identity all wrapped up in the perfect package. Just pull that lever and watch nothing happen. This is gonna be a disapointment for both sides eventually. Time to turn on and drop out again. I’m off grid.
Good,DLTDHYOTWO.
Now, if the new Congress prosecutes everyone in the Bush admin. for war crimes, and they will, will Powell get a pardon?
My respect for Colin Powell went from extremely high to in the toilet when I learned he told Richard Armatige to keep his mouth shut about his exposure of Valerie Plame. That was bad enough, but then Powell never told President Bush either. He just let him twist slowly in the wind. Powell stands exposed as a man of zero character, despite his p.r.
Oh my God… is that photo of Powell gettin jiggy with the Pee Diddler a real photo, or is that doctored?
I’m not worried about whether Obummer is the next president or not. I personally think it would be a very bad thing, probably worse than the four years of carter, and take us many years of hard work to recover from….this in itself is not a bad thing. We’ve got half this country acting as a leech against the other half in one fashion or another, and they want a leech-in-chief. If that happens, then the inventors, the investors, the nuts and bolts people of America; in short, the conservatives, will take a step back and stop supporting liberal leechdom on all the rest of us. That translates to four years that suck, but many more good ones after that where a media is reshaped into giving real news, where the government could be reworked into actually doing the will of the people for a change. I’m voting for Palin…and I don’t look forward to an obummer admin, but in some ways I wonder if that’s what the country deserves. Chemotherapy hurts the whole body, but is sometimes the only way to get rid of the cancer; obummer will hurt the whole world, but may be the only way to get rid of liberal lack of common sense and reality. That said, all my comments about powell still apply, and I agree with whoever remarked that if powell was an uncle tom before, why is he not now? Amazing how nicely they treat you when you return to the plantation.
I’m sorry, but McCain is NOT someone who understands ANYTHING about conservatism. He understands what people tell him to say to conservatives in order to get them to vote for him, but he’s a no-borders liberal. His understanding of the importance of the simple issue of citizenship and OUR stake in this political debate is utterly lacking.
His “bipartisanship” and “reaching across the aisle” towards these brutal Democrats (who would just as soon skin every Republican alive) is MADDENING. I don’t WANT my presidential candidate making nicey-nice with these brutes. I want him (or her–and it’s refreshing to see Sarah Palin doing so) to FIGHT these scum-bags.
I am TOTALLY pissed off that we have this milk-toast, just-to-the-right-of-Joe-Lieberman liberal as our presidential candidate. The only way I will be able to stand voting Republican at all is because Palin will be on the ticket with him. Otherwise, I probably would just assume he’s going to lose, not vote at all, and brace for the coming socialist/fascist avalanche.
My first MM comment!!
I dare say Colin Powell support for Obama is about race. Why else would he come right out and say it isn’t about race. That is, by definition, the underhanded delivery of “RAAAAACIST!!!”.
BTW: Does Harry Belafonte still think Colin Powell is a House N****R? Or is he now a House N***AH?
Now I don’t as a rule post links, but another BHO endorsement by a guy named Muammar Qaddafi is quite interesting… even has the you-tube. Funny that CNN missed this one.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=78309
He had to keep it real. More disturbing today was the revelation the Salt Lake City Tribune endorsed Obama.
I was thinking of relocating to Utah but now it’s either Arizona or Idaho.
I really don’t know my Country any longer.
On this morning’s Face The Nation, one lib called Powell “highly respected”; another, “incredibly respected”. I can imagine how “respected” thay’e think he was if he had endorsed John McCain. This is all such a joke.
Just wait ’til Obama gets his plans towards a Utopian soviet paradise up and running. Then you will know what it was like to live in the USSR.
That is a real picture of Powell with his homeses. Practicing for the party at W.H. when Obambi gets elected.
Exactly right yohann. I too am sick of voting for the lesser of two evils, and for the RNC shoving down my throat the worst candidate possible. Were it not for Palin I wouldn’t be bothering to vote at all. Reaching across to your enemies is just flat out stupid…you defeat your enemies and get them to do things your way, the way that works. Instead we have socialist on one side, and socialist enabler on the other…and powell picking which one will line his resume better.
AHEM!!!
Powell publicly endorses FauxBama, BUT PULLS THE LEVER FOR MCCAIN! wink wink
Powell’s just looking out for number one. He waited to see which way the wind would blow, and now it looks like it’s Obama, that’s who he supports. If it looked like McCain was going to win, Powell would be backing McCain. The rest of the dribble coming out of his mouth is nothing but rhetoric. His endorsement is meaningless, but of course the libs will call it a great victory, knowing full well they would’ve branded him an uncle tom had he not done their bidding.
I’m not giving up until the last vote is reported. A vote for Obama is a vote for socialism. The last time the youth were so jazzed up about an election, McGovern was running. Obama used divorce papers to get elected to the senate, cheated to get the nomination, has the anti-incumbent party energy on his side and he STILL can’t close the deal. Is Obama getting set up for a Dewey moment? Will “spread the wealth” be the deal breaker? When the economy is doing fine, people tend to tolerate cooruption; when people are hurting, they don’t. Congress was so happy to spend time trying to impeach Bush rather than serving the American public. The Current economy is THEIR FAULT! Throwing more money at a problem doesn’t fix it, it just wastes the money.
My support for Obama isn’t about race.
translation, “You’re a raaaacist!”
Does Harry Belafonte still think Powell is a house n*****?
Sure, leave the border open, make all illegals welfare supported citizens…. McAmnesty is REAL conservative…the little jerk.
Powell is a liberal in the same mold as Obama; He is not even a RINO; He favors the liberal agenda in many ways, but his pro-abortion stance is the most alarming; It appears not to bother him that 30 million black babies have been aborted since the sixties; In his world, affirmative action for some, killing for others; Will the MSM ever ask him about that liberal logic he professes to embrace?
I will say it once more, and then I’m taking the rest of the day off from this. If this country collapses under the weight of socialist/communist tyranny, it won’t be the fault of the Democrats, because that result is what they are HOPING for. The fault will fall squarely upon the IDIOTS in the Republican party who cared more about “bipartisanship” and “getting along” with these traitors than about our national heritage and our liberty.
Obama won’t be at fault for our demise, because our demise is what he’s aiming for. It will come due to folks like DUBYA, McCain, and Colin Powell. Frankly, I think Powell is doing this to save his own skin (the fact that its got as much melanin as Obama’s might not be good enough for the coming regime).
I wonder about this…Powell has always been close to the Bush’s…and given his endorsement….and the little ’surprise’ of the economic ‘collapse’…I wonder if this is a little payback by W on mccain, whom he cannot stand.
Fixed.
I never trusted Powell, I’ve wanted to. I’ve served under him and really wanted to trust him but he turned out to be a spineless jellyfish wonk when he stopped Desert Storm short of total victory leaving us with the mess we have now.
Once when asked “What kind of war fighting skills does Powell have?” Powells former chief of staff replied “He’s not that kind of general.”
The military needs warfighters and logistical commanders, not politicians. US has no room for that kind of General, but obviously the Obama campaign has room for that kind of Perfumed Prince.
I suggest we give Obama what he wants when (if?) he gets in:
- stop working hard
- apply for every handout going (and apply multiple times and don’t stop until they say yes)
- stop spending any money beyond necessities as doing so would just be putting money in someone else’s pocket
- once on Obamas medical plan, make appointments to go to the doctor at least twice every week for even the most minor complaints, like a papercut or a hangnail
- max out credit cards but use it to buy durables like gold bullion
- do not pay mortgages or other debts (and don’t keep money in the bank either)
basically do everything possible to make sure his socialist BS utopia collapses as soon as possible – the sooner it happens, the sooner America can be rid of him.
there is no recovering from this. the USA is done, finished, put a fork in it…we’re going to end up with a socialist state….more economic collapse..then a dictator….it would be generations before we ‘recover’ if ever.
something will interrupt this normal cycle though….the Return of the King….
Speaking of abortion. It is amazing that the hideous idea of planned parenthood was started with the idea of controlling black population growth.
From Bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.
Govt programs never work. In the depression, WPA and CCC did work to a degree, but they were about building roads and walls, you can’t mess that up. Other govt jobs programs, forget it. Soc sec is a kind of success. Taking money and giving it to seniors. How could you mess that up. But now, the system can no longer fund itself. Look at all the other govt programs. Very little success. You can’t fire a govt program! They fail, and then they get more money. Socialism in the US is a huge failure. Senator Government is not the answer, he is the problem.

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.
All hail dictator Obama.
he’s not a dictator…he’s the messiah!!
and losing your freedom is for your own good…you’re not smart enough to handle it…you didn’t graduage from harvard!!
can you dig it?
Voting for Obama holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
and given my spelling..I didn’t either!!
And they’re doing it. There’s a growing number who wish to rely on “the system”. Today it seems they’ve reached a tipping point. What is the denouement for the country. I hope it’s not socialism.
This obama guy sure has a funny way of BRINGING EVERYONE together, post racial, non-partisan, better for all Americans…HA.
I can’t think of anyone who has divided Americans MORE than H. ZEROBAMA
If and when this occurs we WILL get our freedom and liberty back! Semper Fi!
Like likes like.
The Republican base is rascist? Colin Powell’s decision to vote for Obama is purely a rascist move. There is no other reason when 92+% of the Black population are voting for Obama.
And, he probably doesn’t want to be painted with the “Uncle Tom” brush as Clarence Thomas was.
Colin Powell was never really a conservative. He’s what one used to call a Centrist Democrat which is one of the rarest creatures in existence now.
Prominent Republican Endorsements for Obama: Colin Powell, Susan Eisenhower, Christopher Buckley, Lincoln Chafee, Jim Leach, Jim Whitaker, Michael Smerconish
Prominent Democrat Endorsements for McCain: ????
Sounds like Obama is bringing more people together than McCain.
Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin et al., the voices of the extreme right, are causing more divisiveness.
I don’t think this will be that important. It really isn’t surprising.
I don’t believe the polls. I am convinced that McCain will win. A week or so ago, things looked bad. But the economy has stabilized somewhat, McCain did well in the debate, and Joe the plumber has, in my opinion, put the final nail in Obama’s coffin.
Powell claimed Obama’s always been a Christian. Uh, no. He was born a Muslim, then he was an atheist, and then he became a “Christian” under the mentoring of Jeremiah Wright. Obama has shown disdain for the Bible in his comments about the Bible, as well as his policy decisions throughout his life.
Furthermore, unlike Powell, I do see a problem with having a Muslim president (I’m not saying Obama is a Muslim, I believe he is really an atheist at heart). Considering that so many Muslims throughout the world are at least sympathetic to Islamic terrorists, I don’t want a Muslim leading the war against these Islamic terrorists.
I have read the Koran for myself. I have studied the life of Muhammad – the person all Muslims are supposed to imitate. It is an inherently violent religion. Their own leader made treaties and broke them whenever it was convenient. He approved of assassinating people who merely insulted him. This isn’t disputable, study the Koran and the life of Muhammad for yourself!
Is obama even more like Bush today than McCain is?
Powell is, as pointed out, a political creature, so it is no surprise that he’s going with Obama. I think he should be forced to reveal who the top Republicans were who he claims said Obama was a Muslim and associated with terrorists (apart from unrepentant ones.) I think that’s baloney. I think he’s been in the tank and waiting to “reveal” his choice close in when its pretty certain he’s not going to look like a fool. Well, maybe he won’t look like a fool. The other instructive comments were his rejection of Gov. Sarah Palin and the conservative appointees on the Supreme Court. Powell is not now, and never has been, a conservative, clearly. He doesn’t recognize grass roots conservatism when he sees it, in Gov. Palin, or if he does, he wants nothing to do with it. Not qualified for the presidency? And Barack Obama is? On what grounds? Rhetorical skills, which Powell praised to the skies? Prepare to have more made of this “endorsement” (capitulation) than its worth.
bagoh20 has it right. I’m also convinced that both sides will be dissappointed. If O wins and there are enough conservatives in the senate to block his tax and spend plans then the redistribution will not happen. His “base” will still be as poor, stupid, and angry in four years as they are today. Powell’s endorement is nothin more than racial solidarity.
Colin Powell holding forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
You crack me up
Am I bellweather? Wouldn’t bet or bank on it, but since coming of voting age, a long time ago, I have only voted for the loser once — 1976. Note: I did skip three elections 1992 — 2000. I voted yesterday for McCain. So using silly stats that’s seven in eight odds that I will be on the winning side.
But maybe if I’m on the losing side in this one, there was no way to win.
Colin Powell? Who cares? He made his liberal leaning clear long ago. He is another RINO whom the GOP courted and has now shown his true stripes.
The best part of this is he will just become a “me-too” RINO who effectively sold out to endorse Obamassiah.
Glad to be see him reveal his true self.
At least he won’t be showing up on any Constitution Party tickets in the near future.
People ask me what I have against the democrats. Other than their racist/segregationist roots, their economic slavery of blacks, their dishonesty, their do-nothing congress, and the financial turdburger they just handed us, I only have 10 things I hold against them; the 10 fastest dying cities in America
Cleveland OH – democrat controlled
Youngstown OH – democrat controlled
Canton OH – democrat controlled
Dayton OH – democrat controlled
Detroit MI – democrat controlled
Flint MI – democrat controlled
Buffalo NY – democrat controlled
Springfield MA – democrat controlled
Scranton PA – democrat controlled
Charleston WV – democrat controlled
Here’s your hope and change in action Mr Powell. Hope this doesn’t disturb your daydreams of being Ambassador to Kenya.
This country is overflowing with morons who except obama at face value. They are blind to his destructive policies or foolishly think that he will honor his campaign promises. He won’t. So Colin Powell is just another sucker who will vote for skin color rather than what is best for America.
God help us all when this communist gets elected.
We lost Powell a long time ago. For so many people being hit in these hard economic times, they still come up with enough (($150 Million) to break a record for fund raising. I guess times must not be as hard after all. Wonder why Barack doesn’t donate that money to us poor unfortunate republicans that will carry the freight the next 4 years and God forbid, the next 8.
Never thought of it like that. My record:
1976 winner
1980 winner
1984 winner
1988 winner
1992 loser
1996 loser
2000 winner
2004 winner
2008 vote for the probable loser
When George W was first running and the subject of Colin Powell came up for VEEP I said then that I would not vote for Bush if that IDIOT was on the ticket. Colin Powell wasn’t worth a crap in Vietnam. How in the hell he became Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has baffled me for years. This guy will jump on any train heading for socialism.
18 million + Hillary Clinton voters and most not voting for Obama. I think that says a lot about a handful of mostly non-prominent Republicans voting for Obama…
Democrats for McCain
Yeah Powell endorse Obama, whether Obama gets elected or not Colin Powell doesn’t lose Politically. After all it was just an endorsement…nothing ventured, nothing gained this was meant to take the spot light off of Gov Sarah Palin in the news cycle. Again Colin Powell endorsed Obama over a fellow Vietnam Veteran…so what. How do the Democrats really think this endorsement will be received?
Do people forget that Colin Powell, is a Politician? He had to be to rise to the rank he did, and survive, and flourish in the U.S. Army. Ask a few of his fellow Vietnam Veterans, who they are voting for…Like Col Jack Jabobs for example.

Actually, I have a perfect record for picking the winner so far.
1996 – Winner. I favored Clinton over Dole (I was young, ignorant, and based my decision off of a “vibe” – fortunately I was still irresponsible enough not to bother voting, so while I “picked” the winner, I didn’t soil my hands by actually voting for him)
2000 – Winner. Began to get my head on straight, supported Bush. Gore? puhlease.
2004 – Winner.
2008 – Gonna be another winner – McCain/Palin
I really do believe the polls have as much integrity as ACORN.
A Republican? Please, get over yourself.
New Orleans and the state of Louisiana for that matter,
was under Dem. control from mayor to Senator before Katrina hit.
Seems to fit in with your conclusion.
Something trumps service and troop support.
Even though Obama has tried to keep his stance on the anti war movement as neutral as possible (recently), Powell has to know he now aligns himself with the troop haters in Washington and the far left.
I wonder how that squares with the many thousands of Men and Women he served with and served under, him?
How does Colin Powell’s alignment with the anti war left help the troops in the field right now?
I don’t see how you can say it is not based on race when 95% of blacks are voting for Obama? It is very hard to be a Michael Steele. I always look for black faces in the crowd at the McCain/Palin rallies hoping to see more, but I am always disappointed. I had a Black man next to me at the rally in Virginia Beach and I wanted to say something about how proud I was of him, but realized that it could be perceived as racist as I noticed that he was black. Racism ruined our country plain and simple!
