Is the MSM trying to suppress the vote in Colorado?

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 21, 2008 10:55 AM

CNN and Time magazine ran breathless stories yesterday reporting that the McCain camp is giving up on Colorado. The reports relied on anonymous sources to gin up GOP anxiety about the battleground state.

You can read the Obamedia spin here.

Or you can read about Sarah Palin’s three-stop tour in the state yesterday that brought out thousands of Coloradans in Colorado Springs, Loveland, and Grand Junction.

Thousands showed up at the first two events (Colorado Springs attendees began lining up at 5:30am in the morning in bitter cold); security glitches apparently kept many who had waited for hours out of those venues.

KREX reports on the last stop, which broke records:

With just 15 days to go until Election Day, there was a record breaking crowd at Suplizio. According to Mesa County Republicans the rally drew 22,000 people making it the biggest in Grand Junction’s history. The speech was only about 15 minutes, but it touched on a variety of issues from energy independence to the economy.

The crowds have cleared out and now the army of 400 volunteers are tearing down. Mesa County is overwhelming red with registered Republicans outnumbering Democrats 2 to 1. The last event like this at Suplizio Field happened back in 1974 when President Ford came, but today it was all about Sarah. Her visit lasted less than 2 hours, but the scramble for our state’s 9 electoral votes is far from over. In politics a lot can happen in 15 days.

Exactly: It is far from over.

Words you won’t see in the Obamedia.

More via Slapstick Politics:

“It’s not true,” McCain spokesman Tom Kise responded to PolitickerCO.com. “I don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”

“We see the race tightening both internally and in public polling,” said Jill Hazelbaker, McCain’s national communications director, in a statement. “We are within striking distance in the key battleground states we need to win.”

“Insider” sources are always problematic, even for blogs. Is the campaign already cutting its losses? If so, then why waste a day of Palin blanketing the state, and announce plans for McCain appearing in Colorado later in the week? It makes little sense to believe Pennsylvania is part of the strategy (a state Bush failed to capture twice) but that Colorado is suddenly somehow off the table.

Hopefully it will work in the opposite fashion. The dhimms will wake up on election day, decide they have it in the bag (and they had a little too much fun the night before to drag their sorry asses out of bed), roll over, and go back to sleep!

Things seem to be relatively normal in Colorado. There are more and more McCain/Palin stickers and yard signs being seen, so even if the McCain camp could have given up, there are still just too many Republicans here. But the odds of Berkeley majically voting GOP is highly remote.

There was a large influx of Indians and other Asians about two years ago, due to some tech companies closing their facilites in California and moving to Colorado. The muslims are finally starting to infiltrate the suburbs over the past few months. That creates “diversity” but doesnt change the voting balance.

However, the only odd thing I have really noticed over the past two weeks is a larger than usual number of Michigan and Iowa license plates on the freeways. Hmmm, dont know what that means.

These “non-partisan” activists who only care about “voting rights” were outright saying that they “need to help Obama win”, and in Waters’ case using a word that had to be “bleeped” on network TV in talking about President Bush (who, they apparantly forgot, is not up for reelection).

My blood is boiling, and my hand is itching to pull that lever (or mark that card, whatever) for McCain. If Obama wins, ACORN wins, and they don’t deserve the opportunity to gloat.

It means a lot of former blue collar auto union workers have been recruited by the Colorado Employment Service. The same thing here in Wyoming. A lot of Michiganers (Michiganites?) moving up here to work. From the ones I’ve met, not real big on unions any longer, but still leaning Dem.

A lot of them don’t stay long, because they can’t sell their houses in Michigan, and can’t afford two house payments (or house payment and rent).

Hard working people though, and they complain about legal and illegals failing to assimilate.

A lot of people from the gulf coast up here too, but they struggle with the winter cold.

And we have a pretty tight housing market (at least here in NE Wyoming.)

Several protesters tried to block the motorcade of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in Grand Junction, Colorado on Monday afternoon, but police dragged them out of the way in a dramatic encounter.

The incident — just feet from the car carrying Palin — was captured on video by CNN affiliate KKCO-TV.

For what it’s worth, both the MSM and the RNC acted unethically during the Republican primary.

The MSM lied to Floridians and told them that Mike Huckabee had left the state (implying he was conceding defeat) on the Friday before the primary. Huckabee had not left the state, and was still actively campaigning there, but the MSM cared more about getting McCain nominated then they cared about telling the truth.

Then the MSM began repeating the mantra of “John McCain is the presumptive nomineeless than three weeks after he came in 4th place in the Iowa Caucus, and long before he reached 1191 pledged delegates.

And less than four weeks after McCain’s 4th place finish in Iowa, the Vice Chairman of the Republican National Committee sent the message that resistance was futile…

It is time to unite behind John McCain to be the nominee of our party.

The leaders of our party have a responsibility to do the right thing when the time has come. Friends, the time has now come.

So, in the week before Super Tuesday, the RNC was trying to pressure people to “unite behind John McCain” and repeat the mantra of “presumptive nominee”.

In my opinion, that is trying to manipulate a Presidential election, and has no place anywhere, especially in the RNC.

I watched the Loveland event on CSPAN, and those folks were fired up! About 11,000 in the arena, packed to the rafters.

Hank Williams Jr. sang the National Anthem, then his McCain-Palin Tradition, which rocked the house! Todd really got a kick out of that, too. Hank, very astute guy he is, was sporting a throwback Elway Broncos #7 jersey, and he gave the crowd a little reprise of the “raise the roof” dance from Sarah’s SNL appearance, and this crowd loved it, positively ROARING!

Sarah was terrific, and the crowd ate up every word, every gesture, and yes even a wink. Piper Palin is a joy to watch too. She is really having fun, not intimidated by the crowds at all. What a cute kid, a natural crowd pleaser just like her mother. No Greek Tragedy set required, Sarah brings her own energy and presence.

It’s plain that I agree with the message and policies that Sarah is promoting, but I’m endlessly fascinated by HOW she delivers this message. Her stump appearances have gotten more effective over the last month. Her timing and sense of crowd energy have become even better lately. No matter what happens, Sarah is here to stay, and I’m really going to enjoy seeing her career advance, however it does. Let’s hope and pray that Sarah is our next Vice President. What a VP she will be for our nation!

I was in line by 7:00 a.m. and barely got in by 8:50 a.m., shortly before Gov. Palin began speaking. Some news reports said there were many empty seats. It’s true; by the time many of us got in there the Secret Service had closed off the seating sections and we had to go down to field level.

Look guys, this isn’t just CNN. Our local NBC affiliate in Denver, KUSA (9 News), has this story:

Earlier in the day, Palin visited Colorado Springs, where she spoke to several thousand people at a minor league baseball park, but the 8,500 seats in the stands weren’t full.

Denver Post reported there were 10,000+ at the Springs rally.

    Then this:

Palin arrived at the Budweiser Events Center at about 1:15 p.m. Monday, greeted by a raucous crowd of about 5,000…The crowd was still flowing in as the event began, with about 500 seats still open.

I was at the rally in Loveland and there were empty seats, but they were bad ones behind the press corps. The Budweiser Event Center has 7,500 seats, so do the math if they counted 500 empty ones. There was easily 8,000 people in the arena, with 2,000 more stuck in an overflow building next door.

This is a concerted effort on the part of the media to downplay the crowd sizes. In the three Colorado events, Palin easily pulled 40,000 people.

I saw that too. How the he## did they get public money? It’s like public radio and public tv. All are far left-wing tools, paid for by US! How do we get these leeches off the dole, using MY money to fund their antics? I am not being represented here. Do we need another Boston Tea Party? To think that another huge chuck of money was earmarked for ACORN in the bailout bill for G#d’s sake…it just infuriates me. I am starting to think I should withhold my taxes. Or pay a bit less than they ask for and tell them I am deducting what they would have given to ACORN because I don’t want them using my money.

They are partisan, and they helped precipitate the current financial crisis by bullying banks into giving loans to people who could/would not pay them back. (Although I also fault banks for being so quick to cave in).
