Here it comes: Sen. Bingaman heralds Fairness Doctrine return

N.M. Sen. Jeff Bingaman cheers the return of the Fairness Doctrine as a “higher calling,” via the Jim Villanucci show on KKOB.
Radio Equalizer has the scoop.

If Obama gets elected, this will happen and it’s just the beginning.
It will never fly. ever.
Fairness Doctrine: destruction of free speech. It seems something like Hitler would do.
This will warm the lawyers up for the next case when they come after the internet.
Newspeak. What ever happened to freedom of speech and freedom of the press. We will see that the LEFT is the enemy of individualism. No one is allowed to think for himself. This is the pathway to fascism.
In fact, Obama is in the same vein as Hitler; a hybrid of socialism and capitalism.
I think it really has a chance. All the liberal fools that are falling for white guilt are going to just keep falling.
It will pass if Obama gets elected. Count on it. It will be expanded. Michelle Malkin, I am sure you know you are next.
I heard this on Rush a few minutes ago. Please people vote and do your part to keep bho out of the WH. I voted early yesterday in S. TX and on the news for two days of early voting it has more voters than ever in early voting. I just pray my vote will count for McCain/Sarah.
L
BTW, you are racist, of course, for opposing the fairness doctrine.
Obama has claimed he is against it, however with his supermajority congress, he won’t have to worry about a veto now, will he!
It will get passed regardless…
This is just an example of the irreparable and irreversible harm he will do.
I don’t know if this would survive the inivetable 1st Amendment challenge.
Dear Government,
Go $%@* yourself.
Sincerely,
Believers of the First Amendment
It will after Obama is done with the supreme court.
I know this will get me called a “troll”, but doggoneit I can’t help but ask if you actually believe what you write or do you just say things for shock value?
Lets see, a supermajority in the senate, a majority in the house, 5 liberal supreme court justices, and Obama as president. Why wouldn’t the fairness doctrine stand again?
I think we all know McCain isn’t the dedicated conservative we want, and for those of you who just have to vote for the Constitution Party or Bob Barr or whoever, well, go ahead. And as Rusty pointed out, if you live in an overwhelming Red/Blue state, it won’t make a huge difference. But I have read Obama’s team likes Barr in the race because it forces McCain to defend an otherwise safe state, Georgia.
But between a concerted war on conservative talk radio, and a built in 5 or 10% advantage from voter fraud when Obama/Pelosi pass ACORN’s dream project, nationwide same day registration/voting (and maybe ID-less at that!), this might be the last really free election in a long, long time.
I live in a safely Republican state, Texas, and can’t take off work to travel to a swing state. But if you can
Volunteer to travel with the McCain campaign
Or go to http://www.johnmccain.com/Home2.htm and donate…
I believe that even the most oblivious among us who count themselves as Americans treasure free speech. This may be the watershed…when the audacity of so-called “fairness” meets the reality of subversion and oppression.
The audacity of these two-faced, hypocritical morons is unreal.
The ONE major media voice conservatives have had is talk radio. Never mind that liberals control Newspapers, Network Television, Cable Television, Hollywood, most magazines… Are they up in arms about the blatent bias of the New York Times front pages? Or the Washington Post? Nope… that’s fine with them.
Their goal is to make sure that conservatives have NO voice. It has ZERO to do with fairness.
Well F@#* You Senator. How’s that for fair use of free speech?
Sorry.. but this irritates me.
Tyrants always move to shut down opposition media when they come to power. Castro. Putin. Mugabe. Chavez… and now Obama.
And he will smile and say, “It’s not censorship, it’s fairness.”
And all the little tools like lgm and chapoutier will repeat the talking point, until the conservative blogs are also shut down.
Coming to America this January – National Socialism brought to you by the Democrats and their Fuhrer! Who will he appoint as his Secretary of Propaganda?
LGM????
Keith Olbermann… it will be a lateral move.
Like the song says, some folks just don’t know what they got ’till it’s gone.
The sleeping giant must awaken.
I am all for “Fairness”. I can’t wait for the liberal madia to swing to the center and be forced to hire true conservatives so people can hear the other side of all issues. HEH – dreaming!
So, does that mean Hollyweird will make conservative, Christian movies and TV shows to balance out the looney liberal ones?
Will PBS and NPR hire some conservative comentators to balance out the looney liberal ones?
Will ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC hire some conservatives to balance out the looney liberals?
Why are y’all laughing so hard?
Painoman:
I’m hoping that the “sleeping giant” will awaken both on Election Day (yes, I believe that there very well may be a “sleeping McCain giant” out there), and when/if our government actually tries to enect this unFair doctrine.
“enect” = “enact”
*blushing*
Scalia, IIRC, is 72 years old.
Obama may want to wait until he dies, to ensure a majority rubber stamp when the Dem super majority in Congress starts attacking the First Amendment.
Or, he may figure the coin flipper, Justice Kennedy, will hear it from the cocktail party set in Europe where he vacations, and give Obama a 5-4 decision before he can replace one of the constitutionalists.
BTW, I sincerely hope Scalia, Alito, Roberts and Thomas and the coin-flipper stay healthy for at least four, preferably eight years, or there will be no remaining check on full communism in this country, as whatever Obama wants, will fit some parallel universe US Constitution, as interpreted by a Marxist rubber stamp.
frostrt:
From your lips to God’s ears.
Given those points, I would argue that this election is not as free as we might think. The truth is, Iraqi elections now have more integrity than ours.
Will ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and
MSNBCMSDNC hire some conservatives to balance out the looney liberals?Bagdad Bob. I sure miss that guy.
The people who support the Fairness Doctrine obviously think that ‘we the people’ are just too dumb to decide for ourselves what we can listen to and see. It is simply affirmative action for liberals. If this issue comes up we have to burn up [not literally,of course] the phones in Washington and let them know that we are smart enough to balance different opinions for ourselves.
Yesterday, Neal Boortz explained the way the Fairness Doctrine would kill talk radio in a step-by-step method. It was a pretty logical analysis of the consequences of the Doctrine.
With Obama and a super majority in both house and senate I have no doubts they will re-enact it. Remember, it was in effect for some time before Reagan killed it. (But like most liberal ideas it has the ability to rise from the dead, like a vampire.)
Not only would Obama be invoking the fairness doctrine, he’d be appointing the FCC people to determine what was “fair.”
Basically, Andrea Mitchell, Bill Keller, and lgm would be making that determination.
Obama will either hand pick, or his FCC commissioners he will appoint, will handpick a ‘fairness committee’ of the same people that sincerely believe “Faux News” is the only biased cable news network, and that, if anything, CBS and CNN aren’t tough enough on the GOP.
One bit of good news, the Fairness Doctrine alone probably won’t put Limbaugh or Hannity off the air. It’ll cut there effective operating revenue in almost half, as stations carrying them will have to balance them with six hours of revenue-less air time, ie, Air America type hosts that couldn’t keep a George Soros supported radio network in business. I see the lesser know conservative hosts, like Hewitt and the others on Salem, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, maybe the pseudo-conservative (when he isn’t sending money to Jerry ‘Moonbeam’ Brown) Savage, those are the one’s forced off the air.
I will say, Obama’s Department of Justice, and the IRS, will closely watch Hannity and Limbaugh for any excuse to hassle them. And, if we do get an Obama friendly SCOTUS, Euro/Canadian style hate speech laws may do the trick to put even Limbaugh and Hannity off the air.
Powells kid is the head of the fcc. Surprise, surprise.
This is scary…Bingaman says,
He also stated that back when there was a “fairness doctrine,” he thought the discussions were more intellectual.
I think what he means is that he thinks the radio shows that (currently) promote conservative viewpoints are not very intelligent. He believes that a liberal viewpoint, you know, the kind that likes to talk over, and louder than their opponent, would add a “knowledgeable” point of view to any political discussion.
I going to go puke now…
HISTORY SHOWS THAT ONCE SOCIALISTS/COMMUNISTS MESSIANIC PEOPLE COME TO POWER THE ONLY WAY TO REVERSE COURSE IS A REVOLUTION. CHAVEZ, CASTRO, MAO, KIM, PUTIN, AHMADINAJAD/AYATOLLA, HITLER, MUSSOLINI, AND TOO MANY SOUTH AMERICAN DICTATORS TOO LIST. HISTORY SAYS THEY GET IN AS POPULISTS AND THEN START UP THE GULLAGS FOR DISSENTERS. HMMM JOE THE PLUMBER SOUNDS LIKE A DISSENTER AND SO DOES SARAH PALIN.
Someone explain to me exactly when life became fair. That word doesn’t appear in the Constitution.
Conservatives will have to regroup to cable, satellite, and the web. The Democrat party will also be hung with the label of “The Party of Censorship” and they won’t be able to shake it. Not even Chapoutier will be able to rationalize that it isn’t true.
Finally an honest liberal – N.M. Sen. Jeff Bingaman.
paraphrased: “free speech for me, but not for thee”
No surprise here.
Message to the Senator: Foxtrot Foxtrot Charlie.
Out
Furthermore, THIS should be our attitude toward any administration that tries to impose the unFairness Doctrine:
http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=1936830
Don’t you agree?
Perhaps we need the Fairness Doctrine if for no other reason to correct wrong statements like that one.
So our tax dollars go to advance the liberal agenda at PBS, NPR and NEA? CBS,NBC,MSNBC,CNN, the universities and Hollyweird are all left. And the arrogant Obamatards are unhappy about conservative talk radio and want to squelch free speech? “Fairness Doctrine”, my ass. Like that union check off card that let’s leftist thugs intimidate employees outside of no-longer to be secret balloting?
Just was reading about how it makes no difference just who is elected POTUS because Harry Reid will be most powerful man in Wash. with a filibuster Senate. ..shades of the Great Society or FDR’s terms. God help us. The 20% fever swamp iceholes will be setting the agenda.
btw, anyone know what happened to Patterico.com? Keep getting redirected to sedo.com BS.
The true goal revealed. How long before there is a government appointed moderator on Michelle Malkin’s site?
Look it up bonehead.
Fits right into the Osama Obama Plan, I think. His “opposition” is vastly overrated, as his own campaign’s actions — lawsuits, intimidation, deploying armies of callers to block lines to talk radio shows, banning opposition signs/clothing at His rallies — make clear.
This is yet another issue that proves Bingaman’s and Obama’s unfitness for any office.
I got yer “fairness” right here, Jeff.
Powell’s kid hasn’t been head of the FCC for several years now.
That is just silly. Obama is a Maoist. Now, Mao probably killed as many people as Hitler did, but no, calling someone a “Mao” just isn’t the same insult as calling someone “Hitler”.
oops, make that filibuster-proof Senate.
Those assclowns have like 9% approval and libs running things for past two years with most ethical Congress in history? I guess the “people” will get what they deserve if they choose to enable those thieves. Black is white. Up is down.
Speaking of the FCC, they would be called upon to enforce the FD to limit conservative free speech while at the same time ignoring sex, violence, cussing, rape, slander, all other forms of disgusting material that airs on the TV and radio – IN THE NAME OF FREE SPEECH!!!
He is bad whatever you call him.
about 2 times as many in the end.
true.
Look it up bonehead.
Oh, hi, Ed. It’s me V the K.
How’s it goin’?
But don’t you understand? Rape and sex on tv is good, conservatives talking on the radio is BAD….
Heh. Good one. As I said, Powell’s son hasn’t been the Chairman of the FCC for at least 3 years. You can keep telling me to look it up or you can admit it you’re wrong.
if the left pushes through the fairness doctrine , think short wave/ satelite radio. this could be the saviour of xm/ serius which that nucklehead stern tried to be and found all the 15 year old highschoolers that are his audience can’t afford 10 bucks a month to be tittilated with verbal spankings. think of the ratings and the advertising power of a single medium with half the country as it’s regular audience. let the alphabet media and regular radio feed on itself until death. today’s drudge shows that is already happening with all losing market share, and nbc the laughing stock because of msdnc. perky little katie will soon be back on some morning show beaming to the soccermoms that high fiber diets and plenty of exercise will put zing back into your love life. oh, note to poll watchers, all tied in several polls today. hope the obama riots burn down all of the ghettos in all of the major cities, urban reforestation.
Maybe I’ve had too much caffeine today; or maybe I’m just a little bipolar; or maybe I’m becoming something of an optimist; or maybe I’ve just lost all of my marbles. Whatever it is, I can’t help thinking that four (or, god forbid, eight) years from now we’re going to have so much fun undoing what the Dems are about to do.
gollumclone- The only thing that will piss me off, is for those not curious enough to look, the MSM feeds them a daily pap that Obama is a ‘reach across the aisle’ kind of guy. A ‘moderate’.
A lot of Obama voters will have buyers remorse in a year, but it’ll be too late then.
I think ACORN already gives Obama a few thousand fraudulent vote head start, and if Obama wins close in the Electoral College, and it is because some state(s) barely went Obama, I think you can probably conclude the lib projection from 2000, that Bush stole Florida, or Diebold stole Ohio in 2004, is actually true in this case.
But it’ll be a lot worse when the commie super majority in Congress passes the ACORN friendly national same day registration and voting.
In 2012, a Republican will probably need Reagan over Mondale type support to squeak out a win.
Socky, love the captions…
Equal time?
The View = Walters, Goldberg, Behar, Shepherd
The CounterView = Malkin, Coulter, Ingram, Hasselbeck
I bet I know which show would get better ratings…
Someone please riddle me this? Drudge has one story about an Obama landslide and the Obama-idolizing AP has a poll saying there is a tie for Presidential race. Which is it? Many people lying because they fear being called a racist? Or the desire by libtards for people to give up and stay away from voting/ throwing support behind the “clear victor”?
As far as undoing the damage of 4-8 years of what Obama wreaks- think about 2-4 far left new members of scotus or what effects we still feel from acts by FDR,LBJ and Carter.
Viva La Resistance!
Even with the sound turned down!
I dunno, CleanGuy. There’s something about watching a group of women screeching at each other like cats and talking over/shouting down the one person with an oppising “View” that is just so relaxing; I personally love to watch it whenever I need to “rewind and unlax”.
NOT.
Better
Get posting
oppising = opposing.
*blushing harder than ever*
Although the original spelling somehow seems appropriate in this case . . .
out of system
now
We will submit neither to Islam nor the Stalinist “Democrats”.
‘The Fairness Doctrine’ means that CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS and NPR to name a few will have to emulate Fox news.
I don’t think the democrats can stand fair and balanced.
Those who can’t handle the truth,
try to silence those who speak it.
How about calling it. . . The RIGHT View!
I noticed this week that Glenn Beck is no longer on CNN. It seems that Fox has picked up his show. My thought is how long before they revoke Fox’s FCC license?
Should I iron the brown suit they give me?
I guess when it comes to remembering to proofread before I hit submit I’m having my:
http://mine.icanhascheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=1973748
Oh, well.
Time to “GIRD OUR LOINS”.
Does the FCC even regulate cable and satellite? I thought the reason Howard Stern went to satellite was to escape FCC regulation?
Of course, all it would take is an act of Congress to expand the Censorship Doctrine to cable and satellite.
madchef:
HAR.
What on earth makes you think it will apply to democrats?
Beck said it was a move to ensure his not being silenced if Obama won.
How long before they come for our library cards?
Freedom of speech? According to a liberal, the only free speech is speech that’s monitored by them.
On October 22nd, 2008 at 3:07 pm, DerKrieger said:
The 1st Amendment has already been severely wounded.
I spoke the truth about the 1st Amendment,
and the atheist Allahpundit silenced my voice!
People who don’t understand the plain language of the 1st Amendment, (and wrongly think that it says “Separation of Church and State”),
have no problem silencing the voices of others.
It’s not just liberals who are part of the problem.
tarpon re:
How long before they come for our library cards?
Cards? no more cards!, chips! Now that is change!
Luckily, Rush can afford to put a pirate radio barge outside the territorial waters to beam his show to us while we hunch in our basements over our contraband radios.
Viva la Resistance!
First, the Fairness Doctrine, then your gun.
Re: cable TV
If Obama gets to replace one of the four Constitutionalists, or the coin flipper, while he has a Congressional super-majority, he can probably find some excuse (The Commerce Clause, Dems love it, they can use it as an excuse to regulate anything, because it might affect “interstate commerce”) to extend ‘The Fairness Doctrine’ to cable and satellite.
Or, as stated above, Euro/Canadian style hate speech laws and commissions like the one Mark Steyn faced recently.
no wonder last night when i clicked on beck there was some very left woman carping the usual trash. i wondered if he was having bidenheimer symptoms to turn his forum over to her. seems the only even remotely fair commentator left on cnn is lou dobbs, and me thinks his time is running out.
More likely since the charge will be racism.
The “Fairness Doctrine”,
like Obama’s intention to raise the Capital Gains Tax,
has NOTHING to do with “Fairness”.
It’s not about “Fairness”, it’s about “Control“.
Fascists.
First they came for the hockey moms,
- but I was not a hockey mom so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Plumbers,
- but I was not a plumber, so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the talk radio hosts,
- but I was not a talk radio host, so I did not speak out.
And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.
Ok I don’t think this will survive a 1st Amendment challenge unless Obama wants to wait until after he has the opportunity to appoint some new Justices.
That being said we Conservatives have to find a way to challenge the power of the Federal government. I still believe in our Constitution and that it IS the law. We in Red states need to work to elect Conservatives at the state level who support the reassertion of states rights under the 10th Amendment. I’ve posted this story before and think this is the blueprint.
Otherwise we’re screwed and will be frozen out of power.
Michael Powell resigned from the FCC in 2004. However, unlike his father, he is a Republican and is voting for McCain.
Former FCC Chairman Powell Endorses McCain
Obama will obviously not slash the Defense and Homeland Security budgets so much he won’t have a few Coast Guard boats with 50 cals, and some soldiers trained for crowd/riot control.
I know it’s lonely over there, but Beck should have stayed put. CNN’s demographic needs to hear conservative voices, not so much Fox News’.
