The increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden

A heartbeat away…
My syndicated column today takes you through a tour of all the latest Joe Biden gaffes that aren’t getting replayed endlessly on the nightly news and comedy shows. I said yesterday that the McCain camp ought to toss the “erratic” label right back in Joe Biden’s face and defuse that rhetorical bomb. Right on cue, Team Obama has released a new ad called…”Erratic.”
Ball’s in your court, McCain. Or will it be left to Sarah again to strike back?

The increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden

If the prospect of Joe Biden sitting a heartbeat away from the presidency doesn’t give you palpitations, you are not paying attention.
Hysterical Sarah Palin-bashers on the unhinged left and elitist right have dominated campaign press coverage and pop culture. They’ve ridiculed her family, her appearance, and her speech patterns. They’ve derided her character, her parenting skills, her readiness, and her intellect.
Meanwhile, the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden gets a pass. What does the guy have to do to earn the relentless scrutiny and merciless mockery he deserves? Answer: Wear high heels, shoot caribou, and change the “D” next to his name to an “R.”
Team Obama is hammering John McCain as “erratic” in the closing days of the election campaign. There are now 615,000 Google hits and counting using the search terms “erratic McCain.” Last week, the New York Times devoted an entire article to the Obama-Biden line of attack, titled “In Friendly Region, Biden Cites McCain as Erratic.”
Who’s erratic? Throughout the primary and general election cycles, Biden has lurched from attacking Obama as not-ready-for-primetime (“The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training,” September 2007) to ready-to-lead (“Barack Obama is ready. This is his time,” August 2008) and back again. This week, Biden warned America that an Obama victory would invite a dangerous global showdown between tyrants and the naïf Obama. “Mark my words,” Biden said Sunday at a Democratic fund-raiser. “It will not be six months [after the inauguration] before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.” In a follow-up appearance, he told followers to brace for the worst and “gird your loins.”
Out of Biden’s mouth, this is called candor. Out of anyone else’s mouth, it would be “fear-mongering,” “negative campaigning,” and a “distraction.”
Tooting his own horn while vandalizing his running mate’s, Biden bragged: “I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know.” Yeah. Colleagues like that guy who had a mere 143 days of Senate experience before launching his presidential bid and choosing you to shore up his meager credibility, Joe.
In fact, Biden has spent the entire campaign questioning his running mate’s judgment. Last month, he mused out loud: “Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more than I am to be vice president of the United States of America…She is easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me.” Biden assailed the campaign’s position on clean coal, openly criticized the campaign’s idiotic ad attacking John McCain for not using e-mail, and warned the pro-gun control Obama that “if he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem.”
Dan Quayle will have “POTATOE” etched on his gravestone. But how many times have late-night comedians and cable shows replayed the video of senior statesman and six-term Sen. Biden’s own spelling mishap last week while attacking John McCain’s economic plan?
“Look, John’s last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S.”
No, Joe. “D’-O-H” is a three-letter-word.
Nightly news shows still haven’t tired of replaying Sarah Palin’s infamous interview with Katie Couric. But how many times have they replayed Joe Biden’s botched interview with Couric last month – in which he cluelessly claimed: “When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”
Er, here’s what really happened: Roosevelt wasn’t president when the market crashed in 1929. As for appearing on TV, it was still in its infant stages and wasn’t available to the general public until at least ten years later.
During the lone VP debate earlier this month, the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Joe Biden demonstrated more historical ignorance that Sarah Palin would never have been able to get away with: “Vice President Cheney’s been the most dangerous vice president we’ve had probably in American history,” Biden said. “He has the idea he doesn’t realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that’s the executive — he works in the executive branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.”
Article 1 of the Constitution defines the role of the legislative branch, not the executive branch. You would think someone who has served 36 years in government – the same someone who is quick to remind others of his high IQ and longtime Senate Judiciary Committee chairmanship – would know better.
Joe Biden’s erratic and gaffe-tastic behavior is the least of America’s worries. He’s worse than a blunderbuss. He’s an incurable narcissist with chronic diarrhea of the mouth. He’s a phony and a pretender who fashions himself a foreign policy expert, constitutional scholar, and wordly wise man. He’s a man who can’t control his impulses.
And he could be a heartbeat away. Now, back to your regularly scheduled Palin-says-“You Betcha” skit.

According to the oh-so-correct moonbats, the world will looove us again under the Messiah. So, if that’s the case, why will we be tested??
Also, I’m not as concerned about the “test” as I am the response. The fact that Biden says we need to stick by the Messiah’s decision, even though it may appear to be the wrong one, curdles my blood….
SilverCat #97:
That’s all I wanted – the evidence that you’re not a Republican and are a democrat plant.
If they actually wanted what’s best for all Americans then they wouldn’t be supporting the ObamaMessiah.
Economic opportunity vs. economic dependence.
All true Americans want what’s best for the country, but have differing ways of approaching the challenge.
As someone said in the Politico article comments, Sarah Palin is a ONE WOMAN EARMARK.
Why aren’t ANY of you outraged? Why, when the “anti-elitist” beliefs that you so forcefully claim as your own are ignored by your own candidate, do you suddenly drop those beliefs out of convienience?
Because, maybe, you didn’t actually have those beliefs in the first place.
Since you’re into above-board campaign expense reporting, although apparently only in regards to the RNC and VP Palin’s clothing budget – the clothes which, I remind you, are to be donated for charity auction – might I ask when we may expect to learn the identity and sources of Obama’s 150 MILLION DOLLARS in donations?
It couldn’t be that he’s holding out on us because some the money is from less than American (read: $audi) and/or reputable sources, could it?
watershed, i could care less about edwards paying $400 for a haircut, except that it shows his narcisistic attitude, because he proved what a low life he is. i know it’s just sex, so remember that the next time a republican cheats on his dying wife with a woman he HIRES onto his campaign staff. clinton was well known to be a philanderer before the election, but the ostrich msm and people such as yourself CHOSE to look the other way. now obama’s father died of alcoholism in his second alcohol induced car accident, his son admits to cocaine and drug use, and the same people choose to overlook this. in the stress of the campaign he restarted smoking cigarettes, what will he restart when the real pressur and fatigue set in in the oval office. look at any inaugural picture vs an after picture of any president. STRESS. john kennedy was a drug abuser his entire career in the white house due to his war injured back. who knows what fdr was on in his last two terms. we really can’t keep ignoring inconvenient facts and expect great results. the nature vs nurture argument is instinctively known by all, or infertile women and men wouldn’t spend tons trying to have 1) their children, 2) one of the spouses children, 3) adopting a child. even that dipsh*t actress denise richards knows that much.
Welcome back. Where in the hell have you been? I sure hope Huggybear and Buck I will be making appearances as the election approaches.
Biden-
I think the “tested” remark was stupid. The campaign should be focusing on the economy, and his gaffe brought national security back to the table(McCain’s perceived strength). This stupid remark could also be used to scare up votes:
“With the problems we have going on like two wars and an economy in shambles, do we really need to be “tested” right now because our new president is a novice?”
I love Biden, but I think his remark is incredibly stupid. It can be spun, but who wants to clean this crap up, when we’re trying to close the deal on an election? Biden should be forced to stick to prepared talking points for the next 13 days. We democrats are so freaking close right now. Let’s not screw it up.
Maybe it’s because we know an elitist when we see one, to wit the Obamas, and maybe it’s because we see our own collective reflection when look at VP Palin!
#103
Your comment is a wonderful example of how the Republican/conservative movement is eating itself alive. What absolute babble. Did you have anything to say about, well, anything relevant?
I assume not.
#105
Another “just because” argument. Got it. Keep it up!
Biden’s grave will need to be something more on the lines of the Vietnam War Memorial!
I too, reserved labeling this person a pretender. It was only a matter of time until the ugly truth reared its head.
#104
Hi! I haven’t been here in a long time, since I got threatened with bodily harm from a commenter many moons back. But this one was too juicy to stay away. I know about not being too confident, but when the McCain campaign makes such UNBELIEVABLE blunders such as this, it’s hard to not jump in with the schadenfreude!
So anything that casts doubt on the messiah is irrelevant, a distraction, or racist. Got it.
p.s This may explain why all most dems can do is repeat talking points.
Even for you and Obama that will take awhile and still not be believable.
Kinda like the tax rebate spin…well they pay payroll tax.
You may leave now your superior, mistressjustice , is here.
mistressjustice. How’s your dragon hangen?
watershed, Biden PROMISING a crisis because Obama is elected is a GOP blunder? Talk about blind followers….
ooooohhhhh. I would hate to see what would happen if you asked Obama a question where he actually answered truthfully.
Heads are going to roll when I find out who left the gate open!
Biden was talking to a crowd yesterday about McCain saying he isn’t Bush. He said, “you all know the phrase…He doth protest too much.” Are you kidding? This is from Hamlet and the correct line is, “me thinks the lady doth protest too much.” But looking at the audience, they probably never heard that line before and didn’t realize his said it wrong. Heck the guy can’t even get gender right.
watershed @ 11:20
Am I on the wrong the thread? Isn’t this about Greasy Joe’s verbal diarrhea?
Help me out, folks. I’m not smart enough to gradjeeate at the top of my law school. I’m just some guy who believes what he reads on the interwebs.
Ask joe what happens when you cross the messiah. If he gets out of hiding alive.
You are correct. You’ll find that watershed gives lgm a run for his money.
Duh…It’s not included in any rap songs or marxist propaganda.
Just about anything can be spun. Right now there’s no worries, because the gaffe isn’t even dominating the rightwing media let alone the MSM. McCain’s campaign only touched on it because their still obsessed with a plumber named Joe. Obama’s poll numbers are also the highest they’ve ever been. Basically, “there’s nothing to see here move along”. Biden, that was close, get your freaking head right. Luckily this got lost in the news cycle, and if it gets picked up, it can be spun and explained away until the dog is wagged.
Wwatershed’s style of argument is classic:
MM readers shouldn’t have talked about the narcissistic, adulterous, horndog, hypocritical Edwards’ $400 haircut, but they should talk about the cost of Palin’s wardrobe.
Palin, you see, should wear a housedress and mukluks when speaking in front of 10,000 , because everyone knows she’s just a hick. No purty clothes for you, lady!
But what MM’s readers should NOT do, according to watershed, is talk about the subject of this thread, namely Biden’s incredible gaffes. Talking about them, you see, is a Republican gaffe.
Got that?
If you think that’s logical. YOU are a moron.
Mistressjustice
Are you sure you don’t work for the Obama campaign? Your last post {#122} came right out Axelrod’s mouth to your ears.
Lgm is such a nazi….Mistressjustass you are a loser too homegirl..Tu eres una tortillera negrita..
I am getting little worried…Yesterday there was report that Plain misused state money (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/21/palin.travel.ap/index.html) and today theres reports about 150K given to her by GOP for her fashions!!!!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/22/earlyshow/main4538064.shtml?source=mostpop_story
All of a sudden McCain is becoming the nice guy…Hope the reports are not true.
#123
If you don’t know what hypocrisy means, I can’t help you! But, here in the real world, holding two different people up to two different standards when they have commited the exact same “crime” is what’s know as a double standard. I say do, or don’t, talk about BOTH.
And I bring it up here, because the hypocrisy won’t be discused here otherwise. Don’t ya see? This website and it’s commenters are nothing if not cartoonishly predictable.
Remember the theory a month or so ago when that Biden would pretend to do something so stupid that Obama would have no choice but to replace him with Hillary?
Its looks like he didnt get the memo that the media was able to neutralize Palin enough without his help. Someone needs to advise him that he might want to disappear to an undisclosed location until the 5th.
Watershed if this site and its commenters are so predictable why are you on here dweeb??
Watershed is just a drone. He will do whatever he is told and think whatever he is told to think.
Obama the fradulent candidate.
#129
For the schadenfreude, big guy! It’s delicious.
I see, and you are a commenter.
Nobody in the MSM ever asked Biden to explain how in the debate with Palin, Biden came up with this whopper: “In 1982, The US kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon” and under George Bush, Hezbollah came back to Lebanon. Biden doesn’t seem to know the Hezbollah never left Lebanon. Nor was he aware that when in the 1990s, Hezbollah murdered hundreds of Israelis in Argentina and murdered hundreds of people at the Jewish Center in Argentina, the Clinton administration did nothing. What the heck was Biden thinking?
Apparently he thinks that Nasrallah just emerged from nowhere as soon as W became president.
Obama-Biden … what’s not to like? I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man. And Biden … he’s simply gaffetastic!
#130
As the lone dissenter on this website, I would hardly call myself a “drone”.
imagine that!
Agreed. The Obama cult members are very gullible. I hear the ones in Harlem are voting for Obama on his policies…and those are the smart ones!
It’s not really funny when you are laughing alone. Then again, you’re probably used to that.
#132
Good one!
I’m volunteering for the campaign. I haven’t heard any campaign official talk about this gaffe. I’ll be canvassing this weekend, so maybe I’ll see you. I’d love an apple martini, and or a snickerdoodle cookie, so please be ready for me.
Axelrod and Plouffe are brilliant if they pull this election off. Brilliant I tell yah.
alrighty…your work here is done… leave
#137
Believe me, I am NOT laughing alone! There’s an entire nation of us. Our jaws ache from laughing, and our shoulders hurt from cringing. Trust me.
“Now Palin still thinks the VP is in charge of the Senate.”
No, she thinks the VP is also the President of the Senate, and she is correct. As Senate President he ceremonially “presides” (when he choose to), but he votes ONLY to break a tie.
She said:
“Of course, we know what a vice president does. And that’s not only to preside over the Senate and [I] will take that position very seriously also. I’m thankful the Constitution would allow a bit more authority given to the vice president if that vice president so chooses to exert it in working with the Senate and making sure that we are supportive of the president’s policies and making sure too that our president understands what our strengths are.”
There is nothing in the Constitution to prevent the VP from acting as Palin describes, and recent VPs (Cheney and Gore) both engaged in working with the Senate.
Biden, OTOH, said the VP did not preside ovwer the Senate UNLESS he was there to break a tie. That’s plain wrong. He also incorrectly cited Article I of the Constitution, not II.
You both need to get out yer Consitution.
Mistressjustass stupid tortillera…You are so predictable homegirl…
How “brilliant” do you have to be if the most of the major news networks are practicaly working for you? Its not that hard to send out a talking points memo directly to the msnbc “news” teleprompters.
#135 Since all you do is repeat talking points, I would call you a drone. Now pipe down, your betters are talking. Go get a cookie or something.
Watershed you are a moron you hear me buttwipe…
Where do all these trolls come from and why are they on this site if they hate it so much?????
I’m bored. You got anything else?
Hey ! Let mistressjustice have a go at things. She is one of the few liberals that has educational level that warrants challenging. Watershed can go back to the sand box.
Hey Mistressjustass come and canvass by my house and see what you get….
The super paranoid freak in me thought Biden was trying to sabotage this thing(likely for Hillary), when I first heard about the comments. I was ticked off. I’m still ticked. It was an incredibly, stupid, ill timed comment. But I think he’ll stay on message(the economy), and just attack McCain/Palin the rest of the way.
Sorry Familyman but i aint cutting no liberals any break sorry…
To “stick it” to conservatives. You need not look any further than watershed’s comments for actual proof.
Who cares Mistressjustass really????
sure your gonna need a few of them. I make the best btw…would even make you one, with extra caramel, as long as you don’t mind if I bring some feathers.
It’s amazing what you can pull off when you have no morals…isn’t it?
In his own words, reading a teleprompter- Obama will surrender in Iraq, and disarm America.
In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans, moving from India. You can not go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. Not fooling. I’m not joking! Oh, it’s gigantic.
You are certainly not the lone dissenter. That’s an egotistical statement.
You know the liberals are militant so i’m going to be militant…I may say some things that might get me kicked off this site but so be it….
Look watershed, if Edwards had donated his $400 haircut to charity after he was done with it, you might have the beginning of an argument.
But NOBODY in America besides “concern trolls” like you will bring up crap like this.
Why not demand that Barry give up that huge plane he rides around in? It’s never more than 1/3 full, so why not use a smaller plane and a lot less fuel?
The unneccessary multi-million dollar expense SURELY must offend the low-income blacks, welfare recipients, and illegals Barack is pandering to. (with his “tax credits” for taxes never paid in the first place)
Oh, and why not check out Michelle Obama’s clothing budget too? That woman lives a very lavish lifestyle.
See how easy it is to play your stupid game???
Watershed is a drone plain and simple…
You can’t polish a turd.
You can’t polish a turd but you can flush it lol…

Whats the relevance of the story? and frankly I see nothing wrong/bad in that…Now if they change the store name sign to some Indian language, then I will be pissed…I am very much pro towards making English as official primary language of US (nothing against hispanic immigrants though).
And would surely like to see Jindal (a real conservative and son of Indian immigrants) run for POTUS sometime in future.
Bobby Jindal yeah what a governor of my great state of Louisiana..He is doing good things here in my state…

Theory: Bidet’s “gaffe” IS the October Surprise.
And what does Flinchy Obinkee do? Goes and sees his G-ma (who remains nameless everytime he refers to her.)
Did the dog eat his HOmework too?
I have a thought on Palin. She’s energized the base, but she hasn’t stolen much of the Hillary supporters and the moderates aren’t flocking to her. If you believe the poll numbers, her unfavorability ratings are the highest of the four candidates. In retrospect, McCain probably should have chosen Romney, or maybe Guiliani. I can’t stand Romney and think he’s a phony, but he could have helped with McCain’s economic issues. Guiliani also has a good economic record, and is certainly popular with independents and moderates. McCain should have called the ultra-Right’s bluff. They would have voted against Obama no matter what issues they have regarding abortion, or gay rights. I don’t think the conservatives here will admit it, but the Sarah Palin pick may cost McCain the election. As always, I’ll come here and own it if I’m proved to be wrong.
bear1909 ok chibato…Que tu quieres???
Mistressjustice
You’ll have a hard time canvassing where I live, I’ve seen perhaps three Obama signs in a city of almost 9,500. Don’t worry though, you’d still be treated with respect. Sorry can’t provide martinis, but you’re welcome to drink from the water hose.
Brad_sk, Paul-Cincy neglected to include that this was a quote from Joe Biden, not from Paul-Cincy.

Again, I bring it up as a reaction to this very website’s desicion to include vast amounts of mockery and derision of John Edwards for his $400 haircuts, and NOT to even mention Palin’s $150,000 clothing budget. It’s blatant hypocrisy. And to see how commenters here weasel their way around trying to square the two. You have a double standard, and many others here do as well. You’re hypocrites. And it’s really fun to see it so out in the open like this!
As for all your other silliness about planes and welfare, you can play strawman all you like. Know what a strawman is?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man
Please Mistressjusttalk porque hablas tanto pata??? Lets play Mistressjustass…
real obama views.
I can’t tell if that comment is one of self- pity or of being self-rightious.
Watershed, you’re just talking to yourself right now, just give it up, we aren’t interested in playing your games. Boring!!
Wow flmom i wouldnt even let her or it drink from my water hose…Yeah i’m talking about Mistresstortillera…
Watershed you are pathetic man or woman or whatever…
The relevance is that Biden is an idiot when he says you can’t go into a convenience store without an Indian accent. It’s stupid because it caricatures a people.
I admire the democracy of India, especially its religion and culture. In the US Indians are, generally speaking, respectful of others, speak English well, are often well-educated and accomplished in professional fields. These are the qualities I admire greatly in others.
If you didn’t know, my post you quoted was a direct verbatim quote of Biden.

A great part of calling someone out on hypocrisy, when that person is faced with the realization that they have literally no leg to stand on, is watching the part when they stick their fingers in their ears and go “nah nah boo boo, I’m not listening!”
You’re a hypocrite, too!
Really fella? You come here with your Flinchy schtick and your conspiracy theories, and generally entertain me. I can’t wait to see you backtrack on your prediction that Obama will announce himself as a Muslim during his presidential term. What’s another one of your craptastic theories? Oh yeah, the democrats are collectively conspiring against Obama, and “that’s why Biden is the veep….because Obama will be the president for 100 days.” So I guess Obama will be announcing his Muslim faith somtime early next summer within 100 days, huh, idiot. BTW, feel free to go whining to MM that I called you an idiot. You told me that you whined to her about me before, so this time tell there that I’m calling you a complete and utter, laught out loud idiot. Please keep it up, I love reading your wacky, tinfoil trash. Please come around here more often. Baby. Idiot.
Ok i’m out of here its been fun especially with you Mistressjutice…I will see you soon my Mistress lol…
Latinconservative, I forgot to mention my two big slobbery labs love to drink from the water hose.
Mistressjustass you are a big idiot comprende????????????
lol that is funny flmom yes indeed !!
Well…my husband and I just got back from voting…both of us voted for Palin. VOTE EARLY, VOTE OFTEN.
Why are you so scared of me big girl Mistressjustass??????
Geesh, so much for southern hospitality. If I give you a dollar, I’d hope could spare a bottle of Publix water.
Ahhhh yes, closeted neighbors. I see a reverse “Bradley effect” coming.
A bit off topic…but has anyone seen the video of Hilary during one of the debates talking to Obama about his “slumlord friends”? Time to bring it back out! Maybe it’s already in an ad, but I haven’t seen it.
Watershed
If you go back and read this thread, I have not commented on the strawman you keep bitterly clinging to, simply because you are hi-jacking this thread. So to call me a hypocrite is simply untrue. I’ll accept your apology, you’re welcome.
Comedy gold!
You know what Mistress i’m going to stay on you like white on rice you hear me you big phony……
Good luck getting me out of your head. I think the membership is at 8 and counting. Buhbye. Yawwwnnnnnnnnnn.
There you go again thinking Mistressjustass how pathetic…
