Will the privacy champions come to Joe the Plumber’s defense?
There is something in the water in Ohio.
They’ve got a fraud-friendly Secretary of State, infestations of out-of-state students and Obama workers sabotaging electoral integrity, and now…government employees or accomplices thereof rifling through the records of Joe the Plumber immediately after the last presidential debate.
You’ll remember that a national media uproar ensued after it was discovered that State Department contractors had snooped through Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain’s passports. (Later, it turned out that the CEO of a company whose employee was involved in Passport-gate was a consultant to the Barack Obama campaign.)
Will the privacy champs come to Joe the Plumber’s defense?
The Columbus Dispatch reports:
Public records requested by The Dispatch disclose that information on Wurzelbacher’s driver’s license or his sport-utility vehicle was pulled from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles database three times shortly after the debate.
Information on Wurzelbacher was accessed by accounts assigned to the office of Ohio Attorney General Nancy H. Rogers, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department.
It has not been determined who checked on Wurzelbacher, or why. Direct access to driver’s license and vehicle registration information from BMV computers is restricted to legitimate law enforcement and government business.
The paper characterizes a McCain spokesman as “attemping to portray” the breach as “politically motivated.”
Geez Louise. Is there any other reason such a breach would take place immediately after Wurzelbacher was mentioned in a national presidential debate?
Of course it’s politically motivated. The question is not whether. The question is who.
The attorney general’s office is investigating if the access of Wuzelbacher’s BMV information through the office’s Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway computer system was unauthorized, said spokeswoman Jennifer Brindisi.
“We’re trying to pinpoint where it came from,” she said. The investigation could become “criminal in nature,” she said. Brindisi would not identify the account that pulled the information on Oct. 16.
Records show it was a “test account” assigned to the information technology section of the attorney general’s office, said Department of Public Safety spokesman Thomas Hunter.
Brindisi later said investigators have confirmed that Wurzelbacher’s information was not accessed within the attorney general’s office. She declined to provide details. The office’s test accounts are shared with and used by other law enforcement-related agencies, she said.
On Oct. 17, BMV information on Wurzelbacher was obtained through an account used by the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency in Cleveland, records show.
Mary Denihan, spokeswoman for the county agency, said the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services contacted the agency today and requested an investigation of the access to Wurzelbacher’s information. Cuyahoga County court records do not show any child-support cases involving Wurzelbacher.
The State Highway Patrol, which administers the Law Enforcement Automated Data System in Ohio, asked Toledo police to explain why it pulled BMV information on Wurzelbacher within 48 hours of the debate, Hunter said.
After the State Department passport fiasco, heads rolled. Obama spokesman Bill Burton raged: “Our government’s duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes.”
Are plumbers who oppose socialism exempt?

There will be no privacy if bho gets elected. Big brother will be in every tiny nook of our lives if he gets what he wants to do.

A chill wind is blowing…
Political intimidation, thy name is Democrat!
The world is going to hell. George Orwell was only off by 24 years.
Its not the plumbers that are exempt, it is the Obama apparatchiks that think the laws don’t apply to them.
Like most criminal political activities of the Dems, this will roll around awhile and gradually disappear. The disturbing thing is that they ignore the most obvious crimes, say the charge is merely a political attack by the Republicans, and get away with it. The various media won’t investigate the crimes, but will assist in the counterattack. Nothing seems to be what it appears to be anymore.
In our country now we have apparently millions of people who want to live in a Soviet-style collectivist, authoritarian society – as long as they are the ones in charge. They’d love to punish anyone who doesn’t toe the party line, by “re-educating” them and stripping them of any privacy and rights and property that they may have.
If they get what they think they want by electing Obama, we will all suffer and so will our country. Liberalism is not just a mental disorder – it is a cancer destroying us from within.
Going after a plumber? unreal, the guy asked a simple question period. Where and the He double hockey sticks are the dozens of reporters camped out at Ayers home???? We heard from Joe, now it’s Ayers time in the spotlight being hounded like a dog.
Closely related to the ‘what is going on in Ohio’ question,
http://www.nypost.com/seven/10252008/news/politics/bam_staffers_pull_their_bogus_ohio_ballo_135152.htm
How can one rescind an absentee ballot after it is cast? Are we to actually believe that all of the Obama campaign workers are such idoiots that they did not understand Ohio’s residency laws? Horse hockey. They only capitulated after being notified of pending felony charges if caught casting an illegal ballot and suddenly they realized they had ‘made a mistake’.
When are we going to see arrests and convictions?
I’m tired of saying this, but we all know what it would be if it were a McCain supporter casting a false ballot. Just look at the young lady who we now see taking the ‘perp walk’ for false reporting. That one is being reported all over the MSM.
Proof: Enter Ashley Todd, McCain staffer, on Google and it yields over 165,000 hits. Google Jake Smith, Olivia Alair and James Cadogan and you get 112 hits. Mostly from blogs. Smith and Alair and Cadogan are three Obama staffers who admitted to either illegally registering or to casting illegal ballots in Ohio.
Yes, the MSM is all over protecting us average Americans from a young lady who very likely needs mental health treatment and is still blinded to the repeated instances of voter fraud in states like Ohio.
How can one commit a felony, such as voter fraud, which should be deemed as serious as bank robbery, and be allowed to rescind their vote and walk away unscathed by their actions? Can a bank robber just turn the money back in and walk away? We are going to hell in a handbasket made from newsprint.
Lady Justice has also let her blindfold slip down across her nose…
Crickets chirp, chirp, chirp…It doesn’t matter, if it gets reported on, it is being investigated. They used Government Computers, that means they are all on the same Network. That means the law enforcement people- who have Forensic Computer Folks to track back to the source. Will have an easier time finding out “WHO” was ILLEGALLY looking at a private Citizen’s information. Joe The Plumber, needs to find Joe the Lawyer…in fact I bet he has already been contacted…those lawyers can spot a spinning red light, and siren from pretty far off
Joe The Plumber meet Joe the Lawsuit.
Absolutely right. It’s not as if John McCain mentioned him 20 times during a debate or takes about him every day on the campaign trail. The press needs to learn to take McCain at his word and stop questioning everything he says !
Only in America. We let terrorists like Bill Ayers off scott free and publicly castigate Joe the plumber. Wait till Joe the Biden is in VP house. Yikes!
The Left has truly revealed itself to be a vicious beast…I really think we should all start thinking twice about posting anything in opposition to these tyrants’ policies and positions – they’re that dangerous!
Yeah, and if Obama is elected (or whatever you want to call it), expect everyone who makes over $250K to get an IRS audit.
Gotta make sure they’re paying their “fair” share now…
To tell the truth, I was just waiting to see how long it would take before the liberals did this. Remember that to a liberal constitutional protections of privacy and free speech apply only to them.

The PUMAs, along with the way Sarah! has energized voters across all parties, have me convinced that Obama would be lucky to get the 43% of the popular vote that Bill Clinton got in 1992.
But the truth is irrelevant to the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy. They are willing to break the law and commit MASSIVE fraud in order to steal the election, “By Any Means Necessary”.
If we expose, prosecute, convict, and prevent fraud, then we will save our Republic. If we don’t, we will lose it and millions of people will be exterminated.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, for all corruption, regardless of party, to be exposed, prosecuted, convicted, and prevented.
Is this indeed the DEATH of our REPUBLIC??? When a common citizen cannot ask a question of a major political candidate, without fear of retribution… When that same citizen gets an answer to that question, and dares to challenge that answer… Now the common citizen is at the mercy of a vindictive MSM, and a witch hunt by the local so called protectors of the public interest… I had asked the question the day after JOE THE PLUMBER made his fateful question a part of HISTORY, of how long before MSM started the attack on this common citizen??? In my wildest dreams I could not have foreseen this degree of ANIMOSITY… How sad for JOE, and how terribly sad for our great REPUBLIC…
Another (un)Civil War is on the horizon. We will only take so much of this.

Storm in a teacup imho. Chances are it was just individuals who work in departments that have access acting on curiosity. Possibly these people access hundreds of files a day, and thought having a look at Joe’s file would go unnoticed. Were they hoping to find some dirt? Maybe. Again, this is a distraction from where the focus should be, which is Obama’s “spread the wealth” statement. Don’t get too hung up on these sidetracks and make it about Joe instead of Obama, that’s exactly what the dems are hoping for,
Your entire comment is excellent.
The sad, but true answer to your question is that the Vast Left-Wing Communist Conspiracy has, over many decades, gained control of large parts of government, universities, and corporations.

Joe must sue anyone who wrongfully accessed his private data.
Folks we are being sold a bill of goods.
Look at this manufactured crisis around us everyday.
The media is hyping fear.
Soon though we will be told, we have already, that hope is on the way.
Just trust in a larger more powerful government and change will win out over fear.
This manufactured crisis has been done so that we will doubt ourselves.
Probably learned most of this from the Clintonista years. Remember the FBI files? Remember all the IRS Audits on all those who criticized or disagreed with them?
Take those tactics X 10 with Obama.
So someone looked at his file.. if it was done without having a legitimate reason, then that is presumably a breach of conduct and some disciplinary measure should taken if so, but that does not make it some huge left-wing conspiracy.
If his records were altered to frame him in some way, that would be a completely different story. If the contents were made public, certainly that would also be a big issue.
You may be right, it may be political Big Brother looking into who this “upstart who dares question Obama” is, but that’s a big assumption based on nothing but speculation. Who’s to say it wasn’t McCain’s people checking up to make sure this guy is on the up-and-up before they start using his question as the forefront of the reasons not to vote Obama? Seriously, would that not make just as much sense to you, if not more?
How many files are pulled on a daily basis? 10? 100? 1,000? 100,000? There’s no numbers here to give it some sense of relativity, and this certainly does not compare to ACORN fraud at all, at least not yet. Sheesh, stop acting like a bunch of libs!
..and again, this is distracting from what we should be hammering into the dems over and over – Obama’s “spread the wealth” statement.
Orwell’s “1984″ was off by 24 years, but he was dead on about the blind followers being sheep in “Animal Farm.”
Go near an Obama rally and listen: BAAAA-rack O-BAAAA-ma!
nyc123me, you might have a point – if this were just an isolated incident. However, this kind of thing happens all the time by the left. If you don’t see the problem, then the problem is you and people like you.
I guess intimidation to anyone who dares to speak out or question the left is ok with you.
I feel sorry for you, I really do. When you finally decide to speak out for yourself there won’t be anyone left to stand with you because your down playing the issue for so long put all the rest of us in concentration camps where we were all silenced.
And if you don’t think that’s what will happen then you’ve never learned anything from history.
Oh grow up would you. You’re basically doing exactly what you’re accusing the libs of – trying to intimidate me by saying if I don’t agree with you then it’s all my fault that the world will end and I’m an enabler blah blah blah. Your reaction is exactly what I’d expect if I went to a lib site and made a comment that did not agree with them. You’re only making yourself and by proxy the rest of us look like fools. And if you for one second think I don’t speak out for myself, then perhaps you best take a look back through the archives newbie. I speak out when I see something that might not be right, as I have above.
Actually I have to wonder if perhaps you aren’t another one of these libs posing as a Republican to make us look bad.
Use some common sense.
The problem is with me “and people like me”? seriously, try removing your bigot blinkers for a minute, and go read my comment again, there is nothing unreasonable in there at all.
The one thing that gets me about this intrusion of government records is this not a violation of the Privacy Act of 1974? It was bad enough to see the Clinton’s get away with pulling FBI files on their enemies, but now we have a new low. At least the powers that be haven’t unleashed the IRS auditors to look up Joe’s rear yet.
When on active duty one of my knucklehead Airmen or NCOs threw a bunch of Privacy Act material into a dumpster on the Air Force Base I was stationed at the time while moving from a temporary facility to a new building. As soon as I found out I advised my Commander grabbed every spare body I could find and we went to retrieve this material so it could be disposed of properly via shredding. Image a Senior Master Sergeant along with a couple of Master and Technical Sergeants digging in a large dumpster up to their hips in paper trying to ensure every bit of paper that had personnel information on it was retrieved for destruction. Needless to say I couldn’t find out who was responsible or they would have probably been lucky to only get off with an Article 15 for this violation of law.
I sure do fill sorry for Joe having the arrogance to ask a legitimate question of the one. I can only fear what will happen should this Marxist get into power. The only ray of hope I have seen locally is how energized everyone in our local community in the middle of nowhere Idaho is becoming in keeping the empty suit out of office. People who normally don’t vote have declared they will be going to the polls on 4 November to protect their 1st and 2nd Amendment rights. Most men and women we know are publicly declaring they will take their guns from the cold dead hands.
No matter who wins this thing I am convinced an armed conflict is coming. It may be the only way to save what is left of the Republic before it is too late. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE!
The privacy champs lack of action is just another indication that our vaunted mainstream media and at least half of our public servants no longer believes in the basic rights that make our country great. Specifically, our Bill of Rights.
Joe should sue and sue fast. Once Odumbo appoints his new-and-improved judiciary, Joe won’t stand a chance in the months to come as we won’t recognize our sustem of government anymore.
Remember Mama Obama’s prophetic words: Barack won’t let you go back to the way you were.
“You are responsible for your individual actions. Other individuals are responsible for theirs. Grow up and take responsibility.” -Michelle Malkin
He, Joe the Plumber, needs to be accompanied by witnesses of good repute. It would not be unheard for some politically aware “law enforcement” type to find drugs or illegal weapons during a “routine” traffic stop, video camera at the incorrect angle unfortunately.
Or:
Tragic accident
Duke University charge
house fires are not uncommon
gas leak
others?
Dirty tricks and retribution are a fact of life. Weaklings worry and hide, the courageous prepare. Jimmy Carter sure did a job on General Singlaub-in 1944 he was a hero and in 1979 he was not. It can be “Hazardous Duty” doing the right thing.
Privacy? That only applies to drug use, Birth Certificates and College transcripts of the far left. We hear of Cindy McCain’s problem repeatedly but BroBama’s use is off limits as RACIST. I can well imagine these very blogs are being entered into a politically correct data base. Privacy? It is a violation of Federal Law to keep records of the FBI’s Instant Background Checks on firearms purchases. Janet Reno did it for eight years-but then she murdered Vicky Weaver without consequence also.
So prepare.

Please, the “privacy champions” are only pro privacy when it suits them. When it doesn’t, then it’s called “in the public interest.”
Not so long ago the St. Louis Post Dispatch *broke Missouri law* and posted the personal info (including home address) of a nurse who takes part in death penalty executions. They justified it by saying it was a bad law and in the public interest.
Such hypocrites.

McCain should not have brought Joe Wurzelbacher up in the presidential debate at all, let alone 20-odd times. Remember the guy who saved Baby Jessica from the well and later committed suicide because of despair from the recognition fading away? I would have thought that was a big cautionary tale that people old enough – as McCain and his advisers are – would think about putting an ordinary person in the limelight. Seriously? ‘Sorry’ but you attacked me first, not the other way around. Did you even read past the first line in my original comment? The only thing we know for sure is that Joe’s file was accessed. We don’t even know for sure that it was accessed illegitimately.
From that, you’re assuming it was some vast left-wing conspiracy that will end with us all in concentration camps. No, really, that’s what you said.
Furthermore, you state that by me merely suggesting that perhaps we’re making assumptions here too soon, without having any supporting facts or relative data first, that I am ignoring real intimidation (’real’ intimidation based on nothing but assumption), and even worse that I am therefore intentionally providing cover for liberal intimidation.
Are you insane, or just a certifiably paranoid?
Try just for one moment to do what we want the Obama cultists to do; to open their minds long enough to see what’s in front of their faces:
We do not yet know for sure his files were accessed illegally, or who accessed those files.
We certainly do not know that whoever accessed Joe’s records is some Obama activist.
We do not have relative data showing that access of files in general is an unusual activity (although admittedly the timing is pretty suspect).
One of the major spearheads of the Republican campaign since then has revolved around Joe the Plumber and what Obama said to him. If you think for one minute that the McCain campaign managers would go ahead with that without at least trying to get some background on Joe first, then that’s just plain ignorance. We cannot yet say that it wasn’t a McCain supporter accessing those files for that reason, whether they did it in a mistakenn gesture of loyalty or because they are just completely rabid (yes, there really are a few rabid Republicans too, just not any many as there are libs/dems, lol).
All I’m trying to suggest is to exercise a little common sense before making huge leaps of faith that this is some leftist conspiracy to intimidate.
There are so many holes in your theory it looks like swiss cheese. You may be correct, I’m not saying you’re not, and the timing makes it suspect, but at least do due diligence before making accusations that will make us look like the flaming retards that we so often see on the left. Is that too much to ask? This was never some personal attack on you, but your first response was certainly to make a personal attack on me, so I’m standing up for myself – something you also accused me of not doing. An apology might be in order.
That a “test account” assigned to IT was used is telling.
I am an IT professional with 10 years experience in system administration. Because of the nature of our jobs, we have access to basically EVERYTHING. Because of that, we routinely (every year) sign a confidentiality agreement. Also every IT professional organization, such as ACM and IEEE, has a code of ethics including clauses about respecting privacy and protecting confidential information.
IOW, this is a clear breach of professional ethics, as well as a possible felony. Using legitimate access for unauthorized purposes is just as much a crime as having no access at all and hacking in anyway.
An investigation with severe consequences for the guilty party is mandatory.

Shouldn’t Michael Moore-types be outraged about this? What about the Toledo City Council, who voted to express opposition to the Patriot Act in 2003? I don’t know, maybe
*clap clap clap* Consistency, people!
No, I don’t remember him and I don’t give a crap about Joe the Plumber either. They have no power over me or my life. I want Sarah Palin, who WILL have an effect on my life, in the White House to take over when the doddering old fool McAmnesty keels over.
I’m changing the subject here – anyone see the Palin hit job that AP just released on the Alaskan pipeline?
Worthy of a new thread.
I guess what scares me most about BHO winning is the idea of a socialist with the media in his pocket becoming president….just brings to mind “1984″ scenarios…
Watershed
There you are .
You ran away AGAIN when I asked you a fundamental question.
Why do you keep running away?
Rushbo thinks Obama wanted to rummage through Grandma’s stuff to make sure she didn’t have anything tucked away that could be used against him. You know, like a birth cert or something. I know, a lot of this sounds like “conspiracy junk”, but considering who we are dealing with, nothing surprises me. The One is a very nasty dude.
Whoops. I meant to say in my last comment, “I don’t know, maybe the council members have expressed their concern over this and I didn’t see it.”
….and should self-proclaimed anarchists like Ayers call on the police when reporters are on his property?

Sigh. Yes?
Meant # 67. Yes?
The mainstream press and the Obama campaign now run a criminal enterprise together. They should be prosecuted under RICO. When action is required because someone has dared to question the motives of the Messiah, the mainstream press understands what is required by them to be done, and it springs into action. Out comes the dirt, and the personal details of an American citizen’s life in order to smear him. And why? For not being a future voter for Obama.
And is Obama the least bit embarrassed by this? Yeah right. The model they must be using is the mafia. Witnesses being threatened and intimidated into silence by the mafia’s henchmen. The MO is the same. Shame that the MSM weren’t a hundredth as curious about the details of the relationship between Obama and Bill the Terrorist. The souless and morally bankrupt democratic party is hard at work. May all the members of the MSM who are complicit in selling their professional souls for a political party, rot in hell.
Rob, we all know you are pretty much a “one issue” kinda guy. But, as long as you vote for McCain, that is fine with me. I don’t like his immigration policies either. We will deal with that later. Let’s just tone down the anti McCain rhetoric until the guy gets in the white house. Then, scream at him all you want.
I’m not much of a drama queen and I would agree that under normal circumstances, I would think this conspiracy stuff was silly, but your comment above says it all. I don’t put anything past this thug. Knowing the people he associates with, he is dangerous.
The question should be, “should the police bother to respond to any calls coming from that scumbag?”
RedPill,
This is being reported as an exclusive on FOXNEWS.COM. Surprise, surprise, fair and balanced Fox News makes absolutely no mention of Obama/Odinga’s family ties or odumbo’s active campaigning for cousin odingo.
Well lookie here… CNN is running with ” “Several McCain advisers have suggested to CNN that they have become increasingly frustrated with Palin “going rogue,” …
“going rouge” LOL! I smell fear, do you smell fear?
An important piece of history that is well worth taking the time to read again. Oh, if only the indoctrination centers, posing as instutions of learning, would have been teaching our children actual history the last two generations, we wouldn’t be in this mess today. Our forefathers knew exactly what they were doing, but, unless we listen to them, we are lost.
Misscheryl: Ayers wouldn’t have needed police if he lived in a collective like the good ol’ days. Hey, hold on a sec…

No, I smell a presidential campaign falling apart at the seams. They’re looking for someone to blame for their pending loss, and be sure that McCain will blame Palin, and Palin will blame McCain. Hence, the “going rogue”.
Watershed. Most of us on this blog know each others value system by commenting every day. We may not agree with each other but we do understand our core values. You come on occasionally and snip away without leaving a hint of who you are.
I guessing from your post that you are a nature loving feminist who drives around with bumper slogan plastered on the back of your car. It’s just a guess. Why don’t you tell us all some of your core values, so at least we can understand where your coming from.
What is important to you? Do you believe in a creator? Do you believe in our constitution? Do you believe in the sovereignty of this country?
I questioned whether to post that full text or just a link. I chose to post the full text because not everyone would follow the link. I realize some have skipped over it because it is long, but everyone really should read that and realize how relevant it is to today.
I have never had a greater appreciation for the meaning of that speech.

I have a feeling that if Patrick Henry were here with us today, he would say join us in saying:
Lefty liberals are perpectual adolescents.

You’re funny. I am sure you give this little “who’s a real American” quiz to all the posters on this message board, because you’re just that sweet.
My family and friends. My work.
No. But I can’t prove it either way.
Yes.
I’m sure I don’t believe in it the way you probably mean. However, I believe in popular sovereignity.
Is that OK? Are you going to stop stalking me now, guy?
Did I say collective?
No, I’m not trying to equate the out-of-state Ohio voters with Bill Ayers. It’s just a strange similarity.
Patrick Henry is here in spirit and we need to take heart. And, Familyman…those are good questions presented to Watershed. I don’t hold out much hope we will get any answer of substance back from it. If the answers are not forthcoming, I have a suggestion…let’s not feed it. Every time we feed a troll, it multiplies, like pouring water on it. And this particular troll can be pretty disgusting.

I believe in popular sovereignity
What is that?
I note that this quote never came from Monica Lewinsky!!

Are you serious? Go look it up, you patriot, you. Good grief.
Familyman…Are you stalking Watershed…or are you the stalkee??
