“The allure of a charismatic demagogue”

Blinded by the glow…
Must-read weekend meditation: Mark Levin ponders “the Obama temptation” and asks, “Is the allure of a charismatic demagogue so strong that the usually sober American people are willing to risk an Obama presidency?”
One of the biggest puzzles to me is why so many have fallen for the notion that the bland cipher Obama is “charismatic.”
But I guess if you have enough in-the-tank media propagandists photoshopping halos around your head, people start to believe it.

I’m with Mark. I don’t get it. I am very worried about the future.
Critical thinking and common sense doesn’t exist anymore.
Why is that a puzzle when you have to look no farther than his running mate’s comment? “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” Biden said. “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”
Obam-uh is the bleeding heart’s dream: Karl Marx’ mind in Will Smith’s body.
This is more accurate.
Hopey Odopey
only if you’re an I.D.I.O.T.
I’m not worried, I’m scared to death of what a dear leader and leftest democrap congress will bring unto our nation.
The short term outlook is not good, the long term outlook, for those that are His (the real messiah)..is pretty good.
this is a sign of the times. the world is desperate for a savior…not the real one, mind you, but the silver-tongued savior, the man with the plan, with THE answer…but of course the Lord is (has) sending strong delusion upon the world, so they would believe what is false. with Ezekiel 37-39 being played out in the world stage…it points to the apocalypse…
Once again the media lets Obama slide. He has let Wesley Clark out from under the bus and not a peep out of the Media about the hypocrisy of Obama denouncing the idiotic remarks only to let the guy campaign for him a again a few months latter.
Where have Al and Jesse been? geeze, not long ago they were on the tube everyday, did Odopeyness pay them to stay away?
“Rev”. Wright?
Levin:
This pretty well says it all, America – elect Obama and you are sentencing our children and grandchildren to futures of limited prosperity!
First off, your attempts to paint Obama as a radical Muslim terrorist have been scrutinized by the electorate and summarily dismissed. Not “ignored”. A great difference there. Continuing to whine about that is, well, whiny.
As your conservative movement continues to splinter and fall apart, the bloodbath you will face after Nov 4th will be broken into two sides- who hysterically tried to McCarthy-ize the base agsinst their fellow Americans and who didn’t. Shame on all of you who did. And thank goodness cooler heads prevail still.
Obama’s powers are getting even greater…check out the photo on the NYTimes online edition…of THE ONE conjuring the weather!
Seriously, they’ve got this mystical shot of Obama, and to the right, there’s picture of a piece of McCain crossing some airport apparatus. No message shaping here…just drink the Kool-Aid.
I am also at a loss as to why otherwise intelligent people, neighbors and friends of mine, are going to vote for Obama. It’s as if their mind switches off when it comes to their vote.
Critical thinking and common sense doesn’t exist on the left anymore. The government schools have succeeded in their mission.
The naive One.
Rather than look at Obama, I would rather see a group picture of the mindless sheep that support him . . . they are much more fascinating.
If Obama wins, I wonder how long after the election it will be before he starts to silence his critics with new laws (passed with the help of Reid and Pelosi).
“Scrutinized by the electorate.”
Heh!
The majority of those voting Democrat couldn’t spell CAT if you spotted them the C and the A.
Scrutinized, my ass.
“There are three kinds of men.
The one that learns by reading.
The few who learn by observation.
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves”.

My husband myself voted against bho/jb last week. We did our part. I pray daily for my country and ask His will and help for all voting.

So many people now live with government subsidies that they believe that utopia is possible. Never having to fully support themselves they believe that life is possible with little or no effort on their part, and Obama plays to this. He believes that he can make their lives better just by changing the laws and taxes to favor the non-producers.
There are a great many people about to learn a very painfull lesson.

Let’s recall, Obama just said things would change. He never said they’d improve.
Earth to watershed, earth to watershed. Can anyone hear this, is this microphone on? Earth to watershed. Come in, please.
Since you can’t hear us now, get back to us in a year or so and let us know how well the whole ObamaMessiah thing worked out for you and your kids — oh and your parents.
Well at least the Military still has it’s bearings regarding the election. 68% say they are voting for McCain. Of course the question is will the librals allow them to be counted (they are trying to stop counting Federal Write in Ballots in VA).
And McAmnesty was the best challenger that republicans could put on the field to go against Obama????
… a crippled, old, cancerous, angry, liberal loving, philandering, unimposing, inarticulate, “my friends“, open-border-La-Raza-shamnisty-loving ASS.

OK. Will do.
Truesoldier
And when Obama and the Plutocrats get finished both remaining soldiers will still vote for the Republican in 2012 — assuming its still legal to be a Republican.
Ah, but an A*s who actually loves his country as opposed to …
Levin’s piece is very good, worthy of Steyn or Sowell (who have both BTW issued back to back dire warnings on Obama, so you can take it to the government bank.) The American people, with few exceptions, appear to have given up. Huge segments of the population have gone race simple, believing the Magic Numinous “O” can lower the oceans, bring world peace, and deliver tax cuts while drafting spending plans that will break the economy. They are like infants, endlessly crying for the moon. All the wisdom of being careful about what you wish for has been flushed from their brains.
So they will get the government they deserve and lose the Republic they are no longer worthy of. If I did not have to live among them and suffer the consequences as well, I could hardly bring myself to care.
Word is recruitment is down due to potential recruits wanting to wait to see who is President and a lot of the toops I talk to here in Iraq say if Obam is elected they wont reenlist. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the Obama youth vote helps Obama to get elected only to end up in a mandatory draft due to military personnel shortages?
O/T but I want to sprinkle this everywhere especially in light of Biden’s interview with the FL reporter.
Important distinction that NEEDS to be made over and over again between now and Nov. 4.
When Obama talks about reducing taxes for 95% of working Americans he is only talking about income taxes. He is not talking about payroll taxes which is where the funding for new programs will come from.
The nationalized health care plan the Dems are salivating about is a 7% payroll tax, the new retirement plan to replace our 401k’s is a 5% payroll tax, and the wage insurance is a 1% payroll tax for a total new tax burden of 13%. Add that to the current 6% Social Security payroll tax and the 1% (or more) Medicare payroll tax and we’re looking at a payroll tax burden in excess of 20% which is not subject to the deductions the income tax is.
No one is exempt from payroll taxes so Obama is simply lying.
I feel sorry for the ignorant masses that drank deep of the Kool-Aid and still can’t see through the empty suit. Most of us on this site (exception of the trolls) are clear thinking individualists that believe in self reliance along with hard work to get what they want in life instead of having “Big Daddy” government give them everything on a silver platter.
Turesolider thanks for the heads up on the Democrat shenanigans to disenfranchise the Military vote again. The very people gambling on this country with their lives will have their vote thrown out by those that want the votes of convicted felons, illegal invaders, and the dead counted.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America! We’re boned!
So is this
Unless you are an illegal working under the table.
Good points though.
Rob – the problem is that true concervatives dislike government and don’t see government service (other than military) as honorable. So very few of them run, as opposed to liberals who see government positions and the power they bring as the highest calling. We will always be out numbered and under represented until there is a dramatic change – like term limits.
Truesoldier
There won’t be any Obama youth vote — in the entire modern history of politics in ths country the young voter has never turned out —- recall the “enormous groundswell” of youth vote for Gore and Kerry — didn’t turn out. I think Rasmussen reported that the youth vote in early voting is running at the historical rate, no groundswell this time either.
And the troops aren’t going to have to think about re-upping, the Dems are going decimate the military anyway — they need the money to buy votes for 2012.
I’ve never been a big fan of term limits — its always seemed to me we have them, they are called elections. But a**hats like Barney Frank keep getting re-elected so maybe term limits is a good idea.
Truesoldier
In the Squadron I work at most of the troops are talking about retiring or separating should the anointed one win with a Democrat super majority in Congress. Retention rates will plummet after all they demmies will be in a stampede to get out of Afghanistan and Iraq and who needs to pay those expensive salaries and entitlements to stupid volunteers anyway. We will probably pull out so fast we will have to leave almost as much equipment behind as the British did at Dunkirk.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America! We’re boned!
Johnsteele – So long as those in power can use the power and money of government to keep themselves in power with hand-outs, subsidies, tax breaks, etc., we need term limits.
Boomer this is the second attempt so far by the Libs to throw out the military vote (at least that I know of). The first was in my home state of WA. The Governor (who is in a tough reelection contest) filed a fricilous lawsuit to try to have any ballot that had the word GOP listed for her opponent marked as invalid. She did this after the ballots had been mailed to the troops serving abroad (which the National Guard unit from WA is here in Iraq now). They figured it would have disenfrachised at least 1600 military votes.
Luckily a judge saw it for what it was and tossed the suit out.
they = the
You can thank our union controlled public education system for that.
On my podium again…..LOL!
In the end times, people will be blinded by the deceitfulness of the anti-christ.
I know many on this blog may think my repeated comments are absurd, but I am really thinking he may be “THE ONE”, alright………keep watching him.
He speaks lies, he deceives many, the world adores him, he has charisma……I do not know of a single person, EVER, to have the world adore such a man except Jesus.
There is no other explanation. There is no valid birth certificate. WHY?
Maybe, just maybe, there never was one.
The anti christ is being protected for the time being until he shows his true purpose.
Truesoldier
The first military vote suppression I am aware of was Florida 2000 where the Dems organized lawyers to file objections in every county to force out any military ballot that didn’t meet stringent requirements and timing.
Boomer,
I dont blame them one bit. I mean after Obama claimed that the troops were air raiding villages in Afghanistan and killing innocent civilians it makes you wonder how long after his corination will he call for war crimes tribunals against our troops.
I don’t agree. The glib comment made when McAmnesty met with the scammer T.Boone Pickens said it all to me:
That comment shows me they know both they are screwing future generations, but just don’t give a crap as long as they get their big juicy piece of the pie.
Demagoguery: campaigning on obviously impossible promises or hollow rhetoric. That’s McCain, and before him Bush. McCain’s: “I know how to find Bin Laden, I know how to balance the budget.” That’s a great example. He obviously doesn’t know how to do either. If he did he would say.
Obama: America is the greatest nation in the world. Join with me now to change it.
Shouldn’t you be off blathering in tongues and rolling around on the floor somewhere with a bunch of snakes? I mean, it is Sunday…
PICKENS said that, NOT McCain. Reading comprehension is apparently a lost art.
Yeah… right… two old tools out for themselves.

Perhaps it is as simple as you revel in being part of the “winning team”, regardless of the nature of your “team” or its philosophies.
The philosophy of socialism / collectivism is that man exists to serve the state; that he is a slave to the state; and that no man has the freedom to decide his own fate minute to minute.
Either you understand this and revel in it, or you refuse to think it through.
Either way, you are one sick puppy.

End times? Antichrist? Awesome. Truly awesome. And Malkin is puzzled at the Obama voter mindset.
Gee LGM, I seem to remember Obama saying he would find Bin Laden. He also said that if elected it would be “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”
as you just said LGM, “He obviously doesn’t know how to do either. If he did he would say.”
Unclear who you are mocking here, but If you are mocking gayle, have some respect. She may be right.

No, I just don’t buy into your outrageous, paranoid, delusional ideas about my candidate. He’s not a muslimterroristsocialistamericahatingblackarabbringdowntheUSfromtheinside candidate. That crap didn’t stick, and the American people didnt buy your nonsense.
Turesoldier,
I believe the war crimes trials have already begun. How can any of us forget our lovely hostess’ coverage of the Hadith Marines. I also remember a couple of other cases were GIs were being charged in a Federal Court for an incident that occurred in Iraq. Sorry don’t have the links handy, but when a Federal Court jumps into the arena reserved for Military Justice as written in Uniform Code of Military Justice and Manual for Courts Martial the barn door is wide open to prosecute GIs for doing their duty.
Welcome to the United Socialist States of America! We’re boned!
Once people get used to the idea that a botched abortion but born alive baby can be put in a stainless pan until
“it” stops moving, then they’re gonna start in on other “problems”.
You’d think ANY abortion would be a HUGE problem but they’ve got us arguing over what kind of abortion is “OK”. This isn’t just sick….it’s cold blooded perverted murder. All of it.
Those German Socialists (remember them?)called some of the other problems the “work shy”.
Democrats call them their base. LTFO.
The way things are going we may have to have it out with the Democrats again ala 1860. I can’t believe we allowed that Party to survive anyway. We spent a half million lives to end that other dumb ass idea of theirs, slavery, and they’re still around? They’ve been nothing but trouble since then too.
Democrats. Have. Never. Had. A. Good. Idea.
One of these days I’m gonna tell you’all how I really think.
I totally agree on the cult of personality surrounding Obama. His stump speeches are the worst kind of populist pandering. The sources of his so-called “charm” are his lies about tax-cuts and his pandering to some ill-defined, yet all inclusive thing called the middle class, of which most people think they are members.
He is promising everything to everyone, vilifying anyone who has had business success, using the greedy few who have gamed the system (usually with government assistance) to tell us how we are being victimized.
He has hidden his inexperience behind exultant rhetoric. You need healthcare, he is the one. You need education, he is the one. A job, he is the one. Your enironmental anguish assuaged, he is the one. Peace at any price, he is the one. And he promises all of this with a straight face, countering all arguments to his policy proposals that they must be correct simply because they are different from George Bush’s.
Is it any wonder at all that the stressed out American voter, who thinks a market downturn is a permanent destruction of all of their savings, who feels high interest rates are unfair, who believes they are entitled to unlimited access to healthcare without incurring any financial impact, who doesn’t want to do hardscrabble work because the government should provide support so that they can continue to pursue their prior levels of leisure, who thinks that government is omnipotent and therefore only requires someone with the wisdom to wield such power for the improvement of the world, is likely to vote for Obama?
We should be disgusted with the American voter (ourselves), but it isn’t like we’re provided with many choices. John McCain is a clumsy old version of Obama light. The best that can be said for him is that there would be a slight possibility that he would fight with a Dem controlled congress. But as we’ve seen, he’ll cave in the name of cooperation and bipartisanship (yecch).
He makes ridiculous statements about global warming…proudly. He has no notion of what to do about illegal immigration. His healthcare plan is nearly as stupid as Obama’s (I’m not a fan of dealing with taxes on my premiums and then having to use a credit when I do my taxes.)
But the American voter doesn’t care about that. McCain’s biggest sin is that he is old. He has a doughy face, old guy teeth that make a creepy grin. He seems grumpy and mean. He has that irritating aspirated “s” when he speaks. He doesn’t sound like a country preacher when he tries to raise his tepid rhetoric.
We don’t want Grandpa, and his nurse with the upper midwest nasal twang, in the White House. We want the cool black guy with the tight butt and our crazy uncle from Scranton.
We’re frigging idiots.
The next few years should smack us all back to reality. That is if our capitalist economy and representative democracy survives.
“”the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy“” does remind me of a servant of the star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. Biden would be more like Curly of the 3 Stooges. A bad combination for our country. He Who Has Come can only be charismatic to those weaklings ready for a demagogue-the way so many Romans were ready for Caesar or Germans/Italians ready for The Leader.
But it can never happen here, can it?

A very good to the point video on the Obama Obama Tax Plan. Since Penn & Teller participated, the usual language alert.
Of course they should sit on the video; they need a feature presentation at the Los Angeles Coliseum after they convert it into the Obama I Library.
Mojavemark, bingo!
I’m sick of the “change” mantra. Seeing Obama and Bitter on the covers of all the magazines and newspapers is nauseating. Maybe we should start making statues of Obama and placing them around like Sadam’s pre-war Iraq. Obama is being marketed by some of the most sleezy and corrupt people in the country. We’re supposed to believe that he is then going to do what’s best for us and not reward his cronies at our expense. If eleceted, this Pelosi-Reed puppet won’t stop at draining our wallets.

Boomer to true and I fear it will only get ramped up far worse in an Obama Presidency. How could any of the troops feel safe from prosecution when the wanna-be CiC claims that they are killing innocent people in ari raids in Afghanistan?
Back in the eighties, a psychology instructor I had always used the cliched euphemism suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, when discussing teen sucide rates. I can’t help but think the same euphemism applies to the nation’s collective psychology in this election: Voters are seriously contemplating committing a four year mistake, by selecting Obama, as a viable solution to a temporary economic problem.
Putting Obama, Pelosi and Reid in charge of our economy and government would mean the end of this nation as we have known and know it.
America, we’ve been through tough economies before and emerged stronger than before we entered each of them because we maintained our commitment to free-market enterprise. There’s no reason we won’t emerge from this mess stronger than before we entered it – as long as we do not elect Obama and allow his socialist programs to become law.
Under the direction of an Obama-Pelosi-Reid presidency, this nation will set out on a path of socialism that will forever eliminate privatization and free-market self-determination – a path that a hundred years of Republican majorities could not undo!
President McCain and VP Palin are the best bulwark we have against the coming tide of socialism emanating from the House Democrats.
If you don’t get what Obama is selling what does that mean?
Was I vaccinated? At a very young age, I read Atlas Shrugged, people before you send your children off to college, Immunize them.

What is the nature of your lust for slave master status?
Someone needs to expain to the masses that rich people who live off expense accounts don’t pay paroll or income taxes. So Obama can raise taxes all he wants and we will get socked with the increase NOT the rich!

Right. like I said, and the American people have agreed en masse- your hateful views are paranoid and delusional. When you lose and get to try again next time, perhaps you should start with something more positive and issue oriented, rather than use McCarthy-ist divisive tactics.
The only thing that give me hope in all of this is that the people of this great nation elected Woodrow Wilson, who was at least as bad as Obama, and we survived. it took two World Wars for us to recover and get our heads screwed on straight again but we managed.
The warm up video to it (at the Obama I Library) will be a David and the Lions take off. David Axelrod is thrown into a pit of snarly old western PA voters he sooths out of their redneck, racist ways, signs up as ACORN “volunteers,” and who then vote in not one, but two neighborhood states.

Actually, Wilson was in office during first World War and he prompted the first attempt at the UN known as the LEague of Nations, but your point is still well made. We also survived Carter.
I to am baffled, the same as MARK… For me it goes all the way back to when he was still in a 4 way race for the nomination… Ask one of his supporters to list one of his accomplishments, any one, either as STATE SENATOR or US SENATOR… All you got was stuttering, stammering, and a cry of RACIST… Almost bordering BLIND LOYALTY… It has only gotten more deep the closer to ELECTION DAY we get… Try to explain it, I cannot, and neither can anyone I have seen try…

So give it a go, explain why it is paranoid and delusional to consider Obama a socialist. It should be a simple thing for one with such amazing powers of perception.
I know the history. The League of Nations was just slightly less of a joke than the UN — anti-Americanism hadn’t been invented yet. Wilson is in large part responsible for the heinous settlement of WW I that set the stage for WW II. Wilson was a socialist who worked very hard to do many of the same things that Obama, and all socialists, are trying to bring about. Wilson, like Obama believed that the elites should govern and the rest of us should stay in our place. And Wilson had jackbooted thugs too.
Read Liberal Facsism, very interesting.

I love the condescension. It doesnt really work with me, but keep it up! Rage against the dying of the light!
Your “socialist” nonsense is completely unfounded, and another scare tactic, like “Muslim”, “terrorist”, “arab” etc, designed to terrify the elecorate into voting for your guy. It’s not working. AND …psst! I am getting a tax cut under Obama.
(And I am older than you think I am.)
Watershed – I still want to know what you like about Obama’s plans. You’re getting a “tax cut”. Great for you, but what of Obama’s platform?
Then explain how Obama is not a socialist. Should be easy if he’s not one.
