From my informal local polling here, most of the Obama supporters I know don't work much anyway, don't pay taxes and/or are union workers who are given paid time off to go and vote regardless.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that the candidate of entitlements, redistribution and handouts would endorse surrogates who urge supporters to deceitfully "ditch" work (that's a form of stealing) for Barack.

"So let it be written. So let it be done."

I have no problem with any of my brothers or sisters "participating in the democractic process" - as long as they are still alive and "participate" only once per election.

I so hate that cliche - "participate in the democratic process." Please, can we just call it "voting?"

What is so wrong with the word "voting?"

Why is the term "participate in the democratic process" preferable? Because it is longer and sounds more inclusive?

Pour that phrase back into the bull!

I voted early in CO yesterday.

I had studied the myriad amendments (14), referenda (4) and other local issues. I created a "voting cheat sheet" for myself, printed it out and went to the mall. The early voting places are open until 7 pm Mon thru Sat. I got there at 5:30 and was finished at 6:15. (The wait was 30 minutes to get to the counter to show my ID - first time since I started voting that I have had to show ID to vote! I first voted in IA where the volunteers knew the voters. I lived in CA when nobody cares if you are legally permitted to vote - or not. I *LOVE* that CO REQUIRED voters to show ID.) The problem is all the people who do not:
1. Study the materials that the state sends on the ballot items/people.
2. Do not know that they don't have to vote for EVERY item (you can skip some and your vote is still valid)
3. How to work the machines.

I am so glad I took a Civics class in high school back in Iowa during the jurassic era when teacher TAUGHT students how to function in society without the govt nannies.

OT - The only bad thing was having the early voting site be the mall....I did have my credit card with me and found the nicest new wallet for 1/2 price. I hope McCain/Palin win so that I will have something to put in the new wallet...

The city where Obama was today, pontificating in the rain, closed down the schools supposedly because of traffic. The school district denied it was because of politics. The strange thing is most of the faces behind Obama were white; I used to work in that city for many years and the citizens are 75% African-American according to the 2000 census which jibes with my knowledge of the place. Locally, the news showed Obama in front of the school shaking hands with some of the locals. I guess it's racist to wonder why the locals were in the back of the bus (if they went to the speech) but not in the front of the bus behind Obama?

All I know is, I don't need to take a whole day off to cast my vote.

People who believe in the democratic process don't support an organization like ACORN, which has had employees in more than one state convicted of felony election fraud, has employees in other states currently on trial for the same, and which in each of the past three election cycles has built a record of submitting fraudulent voter registrations.

One of the two main candidates in this election supports, and is supported in turn by ACORN. . . and it's not McCain.

With all due respect, it is YOU who has a problem with the democratic process. Others here are questioning the idea that it is really necessary to take a day off from work/school to vote. You have previously demanded an apology from anyone who did not vote the same way you did in the last two elections.
So as a conservative academic (I know my head should explode) - I've considered all day what to do with students who don't come to class next Tues. Here's my two options as I see them.

a) Every student who doesn't come to class - I take a portion of their points they've earned thus far and redistribute them to the students who did come to class on Tues.

Now the problem with that is that the underlying premise is that those who worked hard (i.e. came to class) get rewarded. And that runs counter to B0's plans. So...

plan b) Take points from all the students who DID show up and redistribute them to those who didn't come - and to those who are struggling in class (namely cause they don't come to class)....and that's what B0 claims is fair.

Of course if I go with plan b - no one will show up to class and I can go home early and get rip-roaring drunk while I watch the returns.

Seems like I lose either way.....maybe I'll just give a surprise quiz and be done with it.

So as a conservative academic (I know my head should explode) – I’ve considered all day what to do with students who don’t come to class next Tues. Here’s my two options as I see them.

a) Every student who doesn’t come to class – I take a portion of their points they’ve earned thus far and redistribute them to the students who did come to class on Tues.

Now the problem with that is that the underlying premise is that those who worked hard (i.e. came to class) get rewarded. And that runs counter to B0′s plans. So…

plan b) Take points from all the students who DID show up and redistribute them to those who didn’t come – and to those who are struggling in class (namely cause they don’t come to class)….and that’s what B0 claims is fair.

Of course if I go with plan b – no one will show up to class and I can go home early and get rip-roaring drunk while I watch the returns.
