Five days after they played Woodstock (Bethel Performing Arts Center), Ann and Nancy Wilson sic’d the lawyers on the Republicans for playing “Barracuda,” which Gretchen also has performed. Many of the people who mock Gov. Palin trained for their exalted status in life by mocking Heart. If “Barracuda” is too go—mn grand for Sarah Palin, it’s too go—mn grand for me.

I would also love to see McCain and Palin come up to northern PA and get out of the PA cities where no one is going to vote for them. I know, I know, there isn’t the population but people would come from all over to see them. We are pretty much overlooked. Scranton/Wilkes Barre is the closest they ever get to our area. That’s dem area too! I think some people don’t realize that BHO only likes city people…even the suburbs bore him. God only knows what he must think of us “rural moutainous” people. If Obama truly believes in what he said in 1995 and 2001 he should have the intellectual courage to stand up and say, yes I believe those things. Instead you get this dog dung answer about “narrowly focused comments.”
Two people like Sarah Palin were Paul Wellstone and Hubert Humphrey. They were liberals that I did not agree with, but they looked you in the eye and said with pride what they believed. Such people have character and my profound respect.

The term “redneck” is actually a badge of honor. Southerners are used to it and it does not bother many of us. The term is used by many who just hear a Southern (now Alaskan) accent. Many of us rednecks have (shock!) college degrees! And we have all our teeth! And we don’t marry our kin!
My family, of Scots-Irish origins, came to this great country in the early 1700’s. I am pretty sure there were a few rednecks amongst them, as we are also from generations of Presbyterians.

My parents were poor children of immigrants. My mom did not have a bed until sleep in until she was about 16 (before that, she slept on her parents couch). The first time my father did not share a bed with a brother was when he was drafted into the army during the Korean War. My mom was a high school drop out. Both my parents worked their tails off to get themselves, and more importantly me, a better life.
Yes, I have been to college and have 2 graduate degrees. I eat arugula (though not because I am a yuppie, because I am Italian-American).
But I never forgot where I came from. The best man at my wedding was a groundskeeper at a school. I never was ashamed of my parents’ lack of education (though they were). Rather I was proud of them and what they acheived.
And the women in my family, while not moose hunters, were all strong willed, practically intelligent, independent women.
I’ll take Sarah anyday over Barrack.
