Snort of the day

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 28, 2008 10:53 AM

The Speaker of the House assures us that total Democrat control = diversity!

“Elect us, hold us accountable, and make a judgment and then go from there. But I do tell you that if the Democrats win and have substantial majorities, Congress of the United States will be more bipartisan,” said Pelosi.

Sweet music to my ears!! The Democrats said the same thing about holding them accountable last time the voters gave them the presidency and both houses of congress … and in 1994, the voters did just that. They held them accountable by throwing them out en masse.

For once, Pelosi has said something that is worth listening to. And believe me, Nancy – we most definitely will be holding you accountable.

I’d like to know what you mean by that, because in reality it’s the exact opposite. Democrats have passed each and every Bush request for war funding, Democrats lined up (including Obama) to pass Bush’s FISA bill, and Democrats rallied behind Bush’s bailout plan.

Anyone that looks at the actual vote tallies should be able to see that the Republican party has much tighter party discipline and far more unanimity on votes. As far as ‘bipartisanship’ in Washington goes, it’s usually a handful of Democrats breaking with their party to vote with Republican consensus.

Yes, I can see it now. Pelosi stands up and announces that Congress has the votes to pass Obama’s new “Spread the Wealth” tax plan but, out of a desire for bipartisanship, she is going to concede the bill’s defeat to the Republican minority. Yea, that’s going to happen.

This is Pelosi’s way of making excuses for failing to keep the promise of bipartisanship that she made two years ago. You see, we didn’t give them a big enough majority in Congress to make it possible for her to keep her promises.

In 2006 she promised a bipartisan Congress (along with lower gas prices, a severe reduction in earmarks, and a “pay-as-you-go” budget approach.) All we had to do was elect enough Democrats to give them a simple majority and make her Speaker. We did, and she didn’t.

She now promises to be bipartisan if enough Democrats are elected to give them “substantial majorities” in both houses. I wonder what we’ll have to do to get her promise of bipartisanship in 2010?

yeah, she’s banking on the prospect that she is speaking to idiots. she has to, cause only an idiot would not realize that there wouldn’t need to be bi-partisanship to get things done if congress has a democrat majority. they can just push through any legislation they want unstopped. unless there is a veto.

if I were john mccain, i would put out an ad and play it as often as possible that says: so, congress has a single digit approval rating. nancy and harry have been running things for the past 2 years, and without a veto they are going to be unstoppable. is that what you want? a lousy congress to push through their legislation unstopped?

we need to get out the vote and make the real poll on november 4 read obama a loser.

Senator Stevens of Alaska…..whabammmm, quicker than a new york minute.

The difference is, Stevens is being held accountable.
We’ll just chalk this up to a retorical flourish gone awry.

I’m confused. If there are more Democrats in the next session how is that more bipartisan? What is the definition of bipartisan? Does it not mean two parties? What is the definition of “is”? I don’t understand English when these Democrats try to explain these concepts. Am I just incurably dense or is this really just crapola coming out of a twit?

And wasn’t already bipartisan when the Democrats forced more Republicans to vote for the bailout so they wouldn’t take all the heat?

I find it rather interesting that Nacy would be spouting that crap after saying that the Dems would work with republican’s when she was selected as speaker. The exact opposite was what happened. They forced legislation down our throats without any debate.

Of course the MSM will not say a word on how ineffective congress has been under her leadership or the fact that their approval ratings are the worst in history.

Nancy and her lib friends want control of everything including control of my 401k money. Well when Nancy pants tries to get a hold of MY money, I’ll make it dissapear. The government has proven itself useless in running any program let alone trying obtain extra funds by raiding peoples life savings. Mark my words IF they try this takeover of 401k funds, Dems won’t be in power much longer and this time it will be for more than just a few terms.

If Nancy and Schumer get their wish it will present an unsurmountable problem for them! With a Dem Pres. House, Senate when things go sour and their ratings are lower than they are now

Late to the game on this one, so I’m sure it was addressed above, but this is further proof the Democrats’ definition of “bipartisanship” is doing whatever they want.

True, perhaps, that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. But Obama voted the party line 100% of the time.

Last I checked, 10% is still greater than 0%. But given Obama’s economic policies, math doesn’t seem like his strongsuit.
