Just in: The Toledo Police Department confirms that one of its records clerks has been charged with performing an unlawful search of Joe The Plumber’s records.

That makes two Ohio government employees identified in the snooping case. (Obama donor Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, approved a separate search. More are being investigated.)

WNWO reports:

Toledo Police have confirmed that a TPD records clerk is accused of performing an illegal search of information related to ‘Joe the Plumber.’

Julie McConnell, has been charged with Gross Misconduct for allegedly making an improper inquiry into a state database in search of information pertaining to Samuel Wurzelbacher on Oct. 16.

Wurzelbacher came under the spotlight after being spoken about during the final presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.

The inquiry into Wurzelbacher’s record is a violation of department and state policy governing the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System. The clerk is under fire for making the inquiry for a non-law enforcement purpose.

McConnell was hired by the Toledo Police Department in April 1995 and assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau.

A quick search of campaign donor records doesn’t turn up McConnell’s name.

Maggie Thurber wants to know: Who was McConnell digging up the information for?

***

Update: Here’s your answer, Maggie.

The Toledo PD clerk was reportedly doing a favor for a reporter who wanted Wurzelbacher’s address.

More: Joe may sue.

Go for it, Joe.

Get a Louisville Slugger (33″, 33oz.) for the really close in work.

If you’re going to go through the trouble to get a firearm for self defense (which I highly recommend as it is your right as stated in the second amendment of the Constitution) you might as well get a couple decent knives to carry on you too (and learn how to use them in self defense).

I usually at a minimum, even in (most) places that don’t allow me to carry my firearm concealed (damn you Costco with your dumb rules) I always have at least a knife on me if not two of them. One openly visible clipped on my pants pocket, the other concealed. The only places I can’t have either a knife or gun are very limited such as voting booths and government buildings and airports.

I assume you’re a novice shooter. In that case a good double-action revolver is good with which to start. Fewer buttons, switches, and levers about which to worry.

Some good brands for consideration are: Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and Taurus. Nothing under .38 Special for self-defense.

This is what happens to personal privacy in The Age of Obama.

I know I can be very snippy about all the goings-on between US and THEM but something tells me the battle hasn’t been joined yet. Not really. I think the battle lines are still being drawn. It won’t matter who wins the election. The real battle between US and THEM begins the night of (or the day after) election day. Whomever wins the election will determine the nature of the battle but a battle for the heart and soul of America unlike anything in our history is still to come. Gut feeling.

I recommend the Ruger SP-101 .357 (carries 5 rounds) for a female self defense weapon. Most experts I know recommend a revolver over an automatic for a woman because there is less to go wrong in a high stress self defense situation. The weapon is stainless steel (easy to maintain), small, fairly light weight and has serious stopping power. It doesn’t hurt that my wife is a dead shot also.

I don’t believe it’s due to their skin color. In SF when Dan White was acquitted of killing Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk, the liberal gays burned, looted, and destroyed lots of private and public property. They were mostly white.

I think it’s the liberals that do the rioting, irrespective of their skin color.

    wighttrasch-

I have shot extensively…just about everything but the new “big” hunting calibres. I just purchased a Smith & Wesson Military and Police Model, in .45 ACP. I fitted it with Crimson Trace Laser grips, and shoot Power-Ball ammunition in it for home/personal defense.

It shoots with less recoil than the Glock’s, Springfield XD’s, and Sig’s in the same caliber. In a word, “Sweet!”

The Crimson Trace sighting system is amazing, allowing you to hit wherever the red dot is lasing. Low recoil means you stay on target. The Power Ball is designed to expend it’s energy in the body to help eliminate passes through, and to transfer the kinetic energy rapidly into it’s intended target (oodles of knockdown power :) )

The .45 ACP is readily available, and if you know where to buy it, very affordable, more so than the weapon itself. In the case of self defense, money is/wasn’t an issue.

Keep it simple. A .38 revolver is easy to shoot and clean. There’s really very little to go wrong. The most important thing is range time so you get used to the feel in case you need to use it in an emergency. The last thing you want to do when you have to defend yourself is figure out how the gun works.

Go to a range that has rental guns and try a couple out. More often than not, the staff is very willing to share their knowledge with you. That way you end up with a weapon you feel comfortable with. Happy shooting!

My take: Kel-Tec P3AT for conceal/carry. Sure it is a .380 but with hollow points, she can get the job done for under $300 and it is invisible when you carry it just about anywhere on your person. I wear it in an ankle holster unless I am wearing shorts. If I am wearing shorts, I hook it on my belt and wear my shirt over it or just stick it in my pocket. Light, cheap, cheap to shoot, concealable, dependable.

    #146 Post,

BHO is a very scary dood! I truly believe he will come after all of us in a very aggressive manner. My all of us, I mean those that don’t agree with him. He is not a normal politician. He is full of b.s. that is charismatic while saying nothing!

Do you listen to him speak? If so, what does he say? Absolutely nothing!

This “man child” is a threat to our country in my opinion. He truly scares me. Joe Bidden is incompetent. BHO is scary!

As you have no doubt noticed, if you ask 10 people for a gun recomendation, you’ll get 20 different answers. You mentioned earlier that you held a .38 revolver and liked how it felt. Many pistol ranges (one here in Oklahoma does) will have pistols that one can rent to shoot. If you have friends who are gun owners, ask to shoot theirs. Try different kinds until you find one you like and can shoot well.

A little late, but someone earier suggested a :head shot”.

Errr, I was taught (as a woman) that you should *aim* for the torso/gut and, with recoil/nerves/physical differences – you will be more likely to hit your target. Head/limb shots are for snipers/military/police who have logged lots of time getting good at shooting – something few civilians have invested in.

BTW – I love my Taurus .357 semi-auto. Bought it used and the previous owner lost the key that converts from semi-auto to regular revolver. Keep it loaded with hollow point at home.
I would recommend shotguns for inexperienced civilians and handguns for those who will take the time to actually go to the range, shell out the bucks for range time and ammo and PRACTICE. Shotguns pretty much will spray little balls of lead in a large area. Single bullets don’t cover as much area, so you need to be better practiced.

Also, unless you are willing to live with the fact that shooting a gun at someone may, in fact, KILL the intruder, don’t purchase a gun. Hesitation will kill YOU by allowing the intruder to take your weapon and use it on you.

(Ran around with some militia types in my thirties and learned everything I could about guns. Used to have a few SKS’s, an AR-15 and S&W .380, but sold them to pay lawyers for custody fights. I have also shot shotguns as a kid in the South, and various other long guns with ex-military folk.)

All just my humble opinion. And yes, I could live with a dead stalker better than living as a rape victim, or worse.

Well; I go away fer a little bit & return to see lots of advice! Thanks to all, and I probably will go with a .38.

My hands are small & I’m only 5′3″ & about 100lbs. I really don’t think I could handle the .357. I tried a huge .45 dirtyharry gun, and couldn’t even hold it still!

Fortunately, I live in the middle of Missouri, so the red tape isn’t there for purchase. I also don’t think I’ll carry it.

But when I’m inside baking pies by myself, I’d like to have a little protection. You know, from the mice from the surrounding cornfields…

I hope JTP sues the reporter’s BEE-hind off.

What is scary is that this may be a harbinger of things to come under an Obama Administration and Democrat (super-majority?) Congress. A private citizen asks a simple question of a politician and not only gets his privacy invaded without legal justification, but likely with the intent of punishing the citizen for exercising his Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.
