Toledo police clerk charged in Joe The Plumber snooping case; Update: Snooper was doing a favor for a reporter; Joe may sue

Just in: The Toledo Police Department confirms that one of its records clerks has been charged with performing an unlawful search of Joe The Plumber’s records.
That makes two Ohio government employees identified in the snooping case. (Obama donor Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, approved a separate search. More are being investigated.)
Toledo Police have confirmed that a TPD records clerk is accused of performing an illegal search of information related to ‘Joe the Plumber.’
Julie McConnell, has been charged with Gross Misconduct for allegedly making an improper inquiry into a state database in search of information pertaining to Samuel Wurzelbacher on Oct. 16.
Wurzelbacher came under the spotlight after being spoken about during the final presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.
The inquiry into Wurzelbacher’s record is a violation of department and state policy governing the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System. The clerk is under fire for making the inquiry for a non-law enforcement purpose.
McConnell was hired by the Toledo Police Department in April 1995 and assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau.
A quick search of campaign donor records doesn’t turn up McConnell’s name.
Maggie Thurber wants to know: Who was McConnell digging up the information for?
***
Update: Here’s your answer, Maggie.
The Toledo PD clerk was reportedly doing a favor for a reporter who wanted Wurzelbacher’s address.
More: Joe may sue.
Go for it, Joe.

If you’re going to go through the trouble to get a firearm for self defense (which I highly recommend as it is your right as stated in the second amendment of the Constitution) you might as well get a couple decent knives to carry on you too (and learn how to use them in self defense).
I usually at a minimum, even in (most) places that don’t allow me to carry my firearm concealed (damn you Costco with your dumb rules) I always have at least a knife on me if not two of them. One openly visible clipped on my pants pocket, the other concealed. The only places I can’t have either a knife or gun are very limited such as voting booths and government buildings and airports.

I assume you’re a novice shooter. In that case a good double-action revolver is good with which to start. Fewer buttons, switches, and levers about which to worry.
Some good brands for consideration are: Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and Taurus. Nothing under .38 Special for self-defense.
Joe is on Larry Elder right now.
This is what happens to personal privacy in The Age of Obama.
I know I can be very snippy about all the goings-on between US and THEM but something tells me the battle hasn’t been joined yet. Not really. I think the battle lines are still being drawn. It won’t matter who wins the election. The real battle between US and THEM begins the night of (or the day after) election day. Whomever wins the election will determine the nature of the battle but a battle for the heart and soul of America unlike anything in our history is still to come. Gut feeling.
On Larry Elder’s Show. (got to be careful with the trolls.)
I am afraid of the blacks rioting no matter what the result of the election. They have a habit of burning and looting and killing no matter what their mood.
alaskangrizzly, I have the bat for home defense. Among other items.
Nothing can cause as much distracting pain as the ash wood barrel of a baseball bat. You don’t even need to use your homerun swing. A quick flick of the wrist will get the perp’s attention.
They’re legal, too! Everywhere!
I recommend the Ruger SP-101 .357 (carries 5 rounds) for a female self defense weapon. Most experts I know recommend a revolver over an automatic for a woman because there is less to go wrong in a high stress self defense situation. The weapon is stainless steel (easy to maintain), small, fairly light weight and has serious stopping power. It doesn’t hurt that my wife is a dead shot also.
I don’t believe it’s due to their skin color. In SF when Dan White was acquitted of killing Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk, the liberal gays burned, looted, and destroyed lots of private and public property. They were mostly white.
I think it’s the liberals that do the rioting, irrespective of their skin color.
These guys weren’t white or gay, but I do bet they support Obama.
I’m thinking Glock 32. Decent knockdown power, looks cool, but relatively inexpensive to shoot. Practice makes perfect, true?
Pay close attention, Michelle Malkin. Take heed, because this was written for you.
You have a lot of these folks infiltrating your anti-McCain posts, Michelle.
You only think that these are people who agree with you on McCain… the reality is, they’re Obama trolls who’ve been using your site to demoralize conservatives for months on end.
And you’ve let them get away with it far too much on this weblog, because you hate John McCain and you love anyone who posts anti-McCain rhetoric and supports your position.
You don’t even realize that you’ve been used, do you?
You’ve allowed these idjits to give you the designation “useful idiot” and you’ve let them play you like a fiddle here at MM for months on end. Do you understand that, Michelle?
Wake up, dear lady.
I’m no expert, but I’ve got a Taurus “Tracker” .357 Magnum with a ported 4″ barrel. Fun to shoot, but I’m a big guy, and don’t carry it concealed, but keep it in the nightstand. I really like it. Your mileage may vary.
LOL.. you found the ONE time a few gays went wiiiild !
I suppose you could find one time a Chihuahua mauled a person too… but we all know, it is the pit bull that is usually to blame…
Rob said:

back off the dogs dude.
I have Chihuahuas. They go for the throat (when they can reach it).
Are people aware they shouldn’t do record searches for sport? I’m beginning to wonder.
Oh they’re aware, they just think the (D) gives them a free pass to break the law.
She was just illegally digging up the records of plumbers that conservative Americans won’t do.

I own a S&W model 6015 38/357 with a 3 in barrel… it’s my conceal/carry weapon of choice and I have another one, same model in a safe attached to my dresser with a speed key lock system. I have no kids at home, so security isn’t that big a deal with the weapon. But, please get the right training, please.
Ok, 3 different subjects here.
1) Toledo police clerk charged in Joe The Plumber snooping case.
Nothing is going to come of it. This is just another set of charges designed to shut people up because it looks like they’re doing something until after an event – in this case the election – and then it’ll be quickly and quietly dropped. Some years from now somebody will ask a question like “What ever happened to…?” but nobody will care.
2) I want an IMI Desert Eagle .50 AE !!
…sigh…
3) I see Irish Rose is back attacking Michelle and other real Conservatives here on this website. If there’s a plant anywhere to dispirit and demoralize real Conservatives it would have to be Irish Rose.

Which is what I meant, brooklynred..I re-read the quote I grabbed and should have grabbed it all..my mistake, I apologize
wighttrasch-
I have shot extensively…just about everything but the new “big” hunting calibres. I just purchased a Smith & Wesson Military and Police Model, in .45 ACP. I fitted it with Crimson Trace Laser grips, and shoot Power-Ball ammunition in it for home/personal defense.
It shoots with less recoil than the Glock’s, Springfield XD’s, and Sig’s in the same caliber. In a word, “Sweet!”
The Crimson Trace sighting system is amazing, allowing you to hit wherever the red dot is lasing. Low recoil means you stay on target. The Power Ball is designed to expend it’s energy in the body to help eliminate passes through, and to transfer the kinetic energy rapidly into it’s intended target (oodles of knockdown power
)
The .45 ACP is readily available, and if you know where to buy it, very affordable, more so than the weapon itself. In the case of self defense, money is/wasn’t an issue.
IrishRose, if not agreeing (or should I say vehemently disagreed) with John McCain for some of the issues he has clearly championed is bad, than what is the point of free speech?
Incidentally, despite my misgivings about McCain, I voted for him and Sarah Palin almost 2 weeks ago by absentee ballot-so I have made my decision for better or for worse…but I’ll be d@#$ed if I reliquish my option to lay a criticism (sometimes laced with sarcasm) on a person of political interest.
Obamamaniacs don’t believe in free speech… or free enterprise.
Why stop at the clerk…the trail goes all the way to Obama.
And this is the guy who wants to change America? To what? Or, into what? A 3rd-world radical-rabid-racist and lawless land of waste?
And the imp is up in the polls. What does that say about the American Electorate?
Keep it simple. A .38 revolver is easy to shoot and clean. There’s really very little to go wrong. The most important thing is range time so you get used to the feel in case you need to use it in an emergency. The last thing you want to do when you have to defend yourself is figure out how the gun works.
Go to a range that has rental guns and try a couple out. More often than not, the staff is very willing to share their knowledge with you. That way you end up with a weapon you feel comfortable with. Happy shooting!
Memo to Irish Rose: put down your namesake ERRRRR Richard’s Wild Irish Rose wine and get some blood back into your alcohol stream. * out *
Awfully lot of good advice on weapons for self defense–but try to limit it. For the first timer a revolver is always a good choice–but which one (at least .38 of course)? Size of you hand? Will you be carrying concealed or open?
Trying to find a BIG selection of weapons and see which fit your hands and your situation. For weapons selections I give our students a copy of Concealed Carry: The Shooter’s Guide to Selecting Handguns by Wiley Clapp and for a general all around knowledge:
The Gun Digest Book of Combat Handgunnery by Massad Ayoob
They can really help. And what ever you do get practice once a month if possible and take a basic class or two.
We shall see. But for many years many of have known Democrats always poll better than the vote. Republicans, at least Conservatives, often will not answer a poll, lie to them (I do) or may be doing something odd such as working and can’t be bothered.
We shall see.
Well it is still October.
Follow the money.
Thank you, Jesus!
Wighttrasch, I weigh about 90 pounds; I have small hands; and I’m 75 years old. My carry gun is a S&W .38 Special, but I also like my .45, 357 magnum, .22, and a sweet rifle for target practice.
I have a 20 gauge shotgun, but I rarely practice with it. My husband says just seeing it in my hands would put the fear of God in an intruder.
Whatever you buy, practice, practice, practice!
Check the results of this poll.
In an honest election, McCain/Palin win in an electoral college landslide.
What we have to defeat is not Obama’s politics, but rather the MASSIVE fraud being committed on Obama’s behalf.
I ask fellow Christians to pray two things with me on a daily basis:
PBS has a poll asking if Palin is qualified. Go here to vote.
You think the treatment of
was something. Watch it if Obama wins…..or loses. Those on the left will not tolerate dissent.
Pill – MSN home page is now posing the question: can Obama win the vote but loose the election? Check it out.
And yes, we do need to not only pray as requested, but also for our nation as a whole, that God would have mercy on us all for not keeping Him first in our hearts. We need revival in the worse way.
Agreed ITTRP and jangar. I have been praying a similar prayer every ady.
That’s not Little Ma Barker is it?
right_on
what would you suggest for an older woman with arthritis/tendonitis who wants a handgun for self protection? Possibly conceal/carry?
Thanks little ma just answered my question.
AlohaGuy, LOL
No; I just come from a long line of tough ol’ Southern ladies!
I think he should sue the ever-loving f*** out of them! Show them how it feels to be a tax-payer taking it in the rear!
Get ‘em, Joe!
The reason campaign records didn’t reveal anything is that you can donate to Obama under any name, using any address, anywhere! Since he turned off all the fraud protection for donations, it just doesn’t matter anymore. No ID needed there either – just don’t make any sudden moves towards him or wear a police uniform!
Take ‘em down Joe but for only $199,999. Another dollar over and Obama will take most of it and give it to the
perpsummm victims in your case.My take: Kel-Tec P3AT for conceal/carry. Sure it is a .380 but with hollow points, she can get the job done for under $300 and it is invisible when you carry it just about anywhere on your person. I wear it in an ankle holster unless I am wearing shorts. If I am wearing shorts, I hook it on my belt and wear my shirt over it or just stick it in my pocket. Light, cheap, cheap to shoot, concealable, dependable.
Reading all of the Obama investigative news pieces these last months and especially this last couple of weeks, wow. Senator Obama, at least from my perspective, is looking more and more like an organized crime boss. Whoever gets in his way…gets taken down…or out. Yes, may God, in His Mercy, expose and prosecute all corruption and illegal activities on BOTH sides of this election process. Time for a massive cleanup as only He can do. Boy, would it be encouraging to see news clips of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Teddy, Byrd and the other crooks being guided out of the Capitol in cuffs. What a site that would be.
I don’t think I’ve heard more about Toledo in my entire life than I have in the last few weeks. The number of stories coming out of Toledo is starting to close in on the total number of the Toledo populace.
Oh, and go for it, Joe! Drill’em a new one! Whoever and wherever. Book’m Dan-o!
Wait a minute.
A reporter has to ask someone to go into government files to get an address? How about just going online to people search sites and looking it up? Anyone can pay $29.95 and get that information easily, and legally.
Something smells here. I don’t think it’s a matter of finding his address, it’s a matter of finding dirt. Pure and simple.
wighttrash- .38 special revolver with hollow points. Easy to handle and very effective. If you need more than this, you probably need more than a handgun.
Looks like three former employees will be receiving some of that spread the wealth money. Snooping by democrapic government employees and they call us NAZI’s…as usual if the dems accuse you of something they’ve done it or are doing it.
Joe,sue! sue! sue! you were wronged.
I think he should be OK, soap. Most settlements under tort actions are tax exempt.

Go, Joe, Go!
Big Money!! Big Money!!
PS: What’s with Irish Rose? Geesh. Sort of a macabre post.

Little Ma,
ha, ha, you have got to be kidding! A .45, a .357. 90 pounds? Where do your hide your RPG? Ha, ha, thanks. That is funny.
Sue Joe Sue.
Joe is a private citizen. Makes me worry about how an Obama administration will treat private citizens.
#146 Post,
BHO is a very scary dood! I truly believe he will come after all of us in a very aggressive manner. My all of us, I mean those that don’t agree with him. He is not a normal politician. He is full of b.s. that is charismatic while saying nothing!
Do you listen to him speak? If so, what does he say? Absolutely nothing!
This “man child” is a threat to our country in my opinion. He truly scares me. Joe Bidden is incompetent. BHO is scary!

As you have no doubt noticed, if you ask 10 people for a gun recomendation, you’ll get 20 different answers. You mentioned earlier that you held a .38 revolver and liked how it felt. Many pistol ranges (one here in Oklahoma does) will have pistols that one can rent to shoot. If you have friends who are gun owners, ask to shoot theirs. Try different kinds until you find one you like and can shoot well.
Sue em Joe, sue em all!
Start a legal fund buddy. There are many people who would be happy to add some cash to it.
Make an example of all of these jackasses. Maybe they need to experience first-hand what it’s like to collect unemployment checks.
I despise lawyers and lawsuits, but if lawsuits helped to bring down the KKK, then we can only hope this will help rid our country of the new domestic terrorist…..DEMOCRATS.
Sue em’ Joe!
A little late, but someone earier suggested a :head shot”.
Errr, I was taught (as a woman) that you should *aim* for the torso/gut and, with recoil/nerves/physical differences – you will be more likely to hit your target. Head/limb shots are for snipers/military/police who have logged lots of time getting good at shooting – something few civilians have invested in.
BTW – I love my Taurus .357 semi-auto. Bought it used and the previous owner lost the key that converts from semi-auto to regular revolver. Keep it loaded with hollow point at home.
I would recommend shotguns for inexperienced civilians and handguns for those who will take the time to actually go to the range, shell out the bucks for range time and ammo and PRACTICE. Shotguns pretty much will spray little balls of lead in a large area. Single bullets don’t cover as much area, so you need to be better practiced.
Also, unless you are willing to live with the fact that shooting a gun at someone may, in fact, KILL the intruder, don’t purchase a gun. Hesitation will kill YOU by allowing the intruder to take your weapon and use it on you.
(Ran around with some militia types in my thirties and learned everything I could about guns. Used to have a few SKS’s, an AR-15 and S&W .380, but sold them to pay lawyers for custody fights. I have also shot shotguns as a kid in the South, and various other long guns with ex-military folk.)
All just my humble opinion. And yes, I could live with a dead stalker better than living as a rape victim, or worse.
Well; I go away fer a little bit & return to see lots of advice! Thanks to all, and I probably will go with a .38.
My hands are small & I’m only 5′3″ & about 100lbs. I really don’t think I could handle the .357. I tried a huge .45 dirtyharry gun, and couldn’t even hold it still!
Fortunately, I live in the middle of Missouri, so the red tape isn’t there for purchase. I also don’t think I’ll carry it.
But when I’m inside baking pies by myself, I’d like to have a little protection. You know, from the mice from the surrounding cornfields…
wighttrasch, if your still on, you maybe interested in the info I found on this site. It contains info on self protection and home defense for various sized people and living environments. Hope it helps…http://www.internetarmory.com/self_defense.htm#home
rightisright, thanks.
I think we have most of that covered. The husband is a big man (6′6″) but travels some for his biz, and we want to be safe, regardless of our whereabouts.
wighttrasch, possibly my mistake in misunderstanding your previous post, got the impression your weren’t sure what type of weapon to acquire, sorry about that. The link i sent was helpful for me, i needed more info than i had, got the idea you were in the same boat. My mistake, sorry.
you’re quite fine, rightisright; I think the boards are a good place to misunderstand one another sometimes!
I was looking for the type/caliber weapon to acquire. Your website was a great help. It would help if I read a little bit more.
Thanks for your input.
I hope JTP sues the reporter’s BEE-hind off.
What is scary is that this may be a harbinger of things to come under an Obama Administration and Democrat (super-majority?) Congress. A private citizen asks a simple question of a politician and not only gets his privacy invaded without legal justification, but likely with the intent of punishing the citizen for exercising his Constitutionally-guaranteed rights.
tpierce2, #145, said:
I guess it does sound funny, but it’s true. (My husband is proud of me!) I’ve been shooting for 38 years, and when I started I weighed 105 pounds. Use it or lose it, honey.
Maybe you’re a sceptic because you don’t know any Southern women?
I’m not crazy about lawsuits, but Joe may have found a way to buy his business.
