Gaffetastic: Obama mixes up his black sitcom references; video added
Video added…

Oh, my. Can you just imagine if Sarah Palin or John McCain made a crack like this and botched up their pop culture references to famous black comedy shows?
Can you just imagine the high dudgeon from every minority lawmaker? WaPo and NYTimes columnist? Civil rights organization? The cries of RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACISM would shatter the political Richter scale.
Can you just imagine:
This is what happens when a candidates goes off script.
Barack Obama, in Raleigh, N.C., was doing a riff attacking John McCain for supporting the idea of putting some mandatory retirement money into the stock market.
“If Senator McCain is elected, we’ll have another president who wants to privatize part of your Social Security. Could you imagine if you had your Social Security invested in the stock market these last two weeks, these last two months? You wouldn’t need Social Security. You’d be having a — like, what was it, Sanford and Son. `I’m coming Weezie!”
Here’s the vid, via Business and Media Institute:
Weezie was on The Jeffersons.
The famous line Obama mixed up was from Redd Foxx’s Fred Sanford character, who faked having a heart attack to draw sympathy from his son, Lamont, on Sanford and Sons:
“Oh, this is the big one! You hear that, Elizabeth?! I’m coming to join you, honey!”
(From Mahalo: “When caught in a lie or in an embarrassing situation, Fred’s favorite response was to fake a heart attack, which he would refer to as “the big one.” He would grab his chest, look to the sky and speak out to his wife Elizabeth, who passed away sometime before the show began.”)
Here’s a clip reel a Redd Foxx fan put together of the famous running gag:

Barack Obama: Gaffe machine

All it takes is one gaffe to taint a Republican for life. The political establishment never let Dan Quayle live down his fateful misspelling of “potatoe.” The New York Times distorted and misreported the first President Bush’s questions about new scanner technology at a grocers’ convention to brand him permanently as out of touch.
But what about Barack Obama? The guy’s a perpetual gaffe machine. Let us count the ways, large and small, that his tongue has betrayed him throughout the campaign:
* Last May, he claimed that Kansas tornadoes killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12.
*Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”
*Last week, in front of a roaring Sioux Falls, South Dakota audience, Obama exulted: “Thank you Sioux City…I said it wrong. I’ve been in Iowa for too long. I’m sorry.”
*Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?
*Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Alabama, he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement:
“There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.”
Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was “speaking metaphorically about the civil rights movement as a whole.”
*Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by honing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages.
*Over the weekend in Oregon, Obama pleaded ignorance of the decades-old, multi-billion-dollar massive Hanford nuclear waste clean-up:
“Here’s something that you will rarely hear from a politician, and that is that I’m not familiar with the Hanford, uuuuhh, site, so I don’t know exactly what’s going on there. (Applause.) Now, having said that, I promise you I’ll learn about it by the time I leave here on the ride back to the airport.”
I assume on that ride, a staffer reminded him that he’s voted on at least one defense authorization bill that addressed the “costs, schedules, and technical issues” dealing with the nation’s most contaminated nuclear waste site.
*Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s “Dreams from My Father:”
“Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.”
* And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us”–cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm– and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”
Barack Obama–promoted by the Left and the media as an all-knowing, articulate, transcendent Messiah–is a walking, talking gaffe machine. How many more passes does he get? How many more can we afford?

Again, out of the mouth of the embecile
Imbecile is spelled with an “i”. Or in this case, an “O”.
Too funny!
Ah, the late great Redd Foxx. A wonderful stand-up comedian and by far more entertaining than, say, George Carlin or Lenny Bruce… I would love to hear his take on everything today… even if on the other side of the fence.
Oh yeah, and ignored gaffes by the media bad, rah etc.
Thanks Bradley. I’ll commit that to memory because I’ll be using it a lot over the next week or so.
Ummm I made a goof like that over at HA and a libtard jumped all over me for that. You’re right…. if McCain or Palin would have done same, they’d have been hammered as I was. I wanted to ask the jerk, “Would you jump in my grave that fast”?
Ooh, not so good Barry. To quote Norm from Cheers: D’oh!
Forget the gaffe…no way McCain/Palin would’ve gotten away with referencing black sitcoms to begin with.
Move along, nothing to see here. Tune in for the half hour commercial this evening. All gaffes have been scripted out.
All your votes are belong to Obama.
Mama’s genes kickin’ in….
Typical half-White person!
Whatch you talkin about Woolis?
…AND dont forget, there are 57 states in the union.
How dare that moron not know Fred G Sanford’s ‘Lizabeth.
More importantly, both Jefferson and Sanford were small businessman. Jefferson at least was making $250K/yr, and Sanford’s son definitely had dreams of building the business, though his father was contented with the life he had (something to be said about both).
There ARE 57 states in the OIC, however.
Ms. Gipper, tell me you saw the video of Obama’s Saddleback debate (”above my pay grade”) re-edited with porky the pig and gary coleman excerpts.
“Whatchoo talkin ’bout”.
It’s like that one part in Crash where this black woman tells her husband that he learned about being black from watching The Cosby Show and he says, “At least I didn’t watch it with the rest of the equestrian team.” Except Obama didn’t learn, which is fine, because it’s not like black people have to all like “black stuff”. But if he doesn’t know various American black culture stuff, he should stop pretending he does.
Compliments of the hubby:
I do love that man.
30 pcs – nailed it!
One other point, while Sanford was not making $250K (or $200K for individuals, poor Lizabeth already gone to her reward), the way the Obama campaign keeps reducing the threshhold for being rich, pretty soon Obama will be taking the hobos on the street.
Like Tootie says, “What chu talkin’ ’bout, Obama?”
You’ve got a good man there, 30.
Although I would love to hear McCain, (or even BETTER Palin) say…”Gee Ward, you were pretty rough on the Beaver last night…”
He’s lost the black vote for sure.
Or like Re-Run always says, “Dy-No-Mite!”
Thanks!
This is incredibly difficult to believe giving the fact that obummer married aunt Esther!
Ha!
BHO says:
Sure. And if you elect BHO, you’d be like this!
I’ll give him a pass on this one. He got the sentiment right, just the wrong name.
But I do think that a white guy likely couldn’t have even made the reference to the black comedy to begin with, let alone get the reference to the wrong black comedy.
The Hawaii-born(?) and raised Obama really fell on his sword this time.
“Book ‘em, Danno. Murder One.”
LMAO… good one misfit
His egregious gaffe aside, this is just dumb. Who in their right mind is going to have their all their money in the stock market, either in retirement or with retirement imminent?
More scare tactics. Annoying.
Darn, Cicero, beat me to it!
Do you really expect an elitist like Odumbo to have watched a blue-collar show like Sanford & Son? Like 30 said, The reception in that Indonesian madrassa was probably pretty bad.
I’ve got to correct a couple posters on their characters, though.
It was “Arnold,” who asked his brother, “What’chou talkin’ ’bout, Willis?”
And if I’m not mistaken, it was Jimmy Walker’s character, “JJ,” on Good Times who was known for “DYNOMITE!”
Whatchu talking about, Barack?
The closer to the election the more EVIL McCain becomes……..
Remember how Dr. Huxtable would always tell Rudy, “I pity the fool who mixes-up sitcom quotes!”? The Fonzie would come in and say, “Excuuuuuuuuuse me!”
OK. That’s it, I promise. I have a feeling I’m about to be banned…
Don’t forget George Jefferson. Listen to the intro…
“…we finally get a piece of the pie!
That’s the point, sandyb!
Or as Edith Bunker used to say, “D’oh!”
There was a great tee shirt out (well, at least last year) that I can’t find on the Web now. It had a pix of Lamont on the front, emblazoned with “Heir to the Throne” and a pix of Fred’s ancient pickup on the back.
“I’m gonna kiss me a grizzly, and wrestle me a pretty girl.”
-John Wayne
Hey HEY Hey!
“A bird in hand casts no stones.”
-Confucius
This is even more laughable folks…
Yes, I can imagine investing in the past couple of weeks because the market will make a huge comeback and stocks are at bargain prices right now.
Idiot! Who would invest in retirement for two weeks?
Buy low, and hold…dollar cost averaging…long term investment.
I guess he never took a course in finance.
30 pieces and cicero kid,too funny. aunt esther. but he can always fall back on “the devil made my evil twin do it”

Thanks for making me laugh, Red Skate Septic, even if we’re on different sides.
Indeed, this is by no means an apocalyptic revelation, but is mildly humorous…
Now I can’t get the Sanford and Sons theme song out of my head… oh, what a glorious 1970’s theme…
Was he down by de schoolyard?
“A PENNY SAVED IS PENNY EARNED”
FANNIE MAE
If McCain or Palin said this it would be proof they are detached from African American culture.
Obama is not African American (as in descendant from African Slaves who don’t know their country of origin, so the identify with continent of origin).
Like other Americans, Obama knows his country of origin.
He is a “Kenyan American.”
Nothing in common with “African Americans.”
Weezie indeed.
Good point Justified!
That’s awesome!
Kind of like, “Whatchu talkin’ ’bout, Rerun!”
Obama…what a typical half-white person.
Good thing he didn’t make a reference to Kunta Kente from the movie Branches.
How can you follow that?
Tell Mr. 30 he be “movin’ on up”.
When I saw Obama dance with Ellen DeGenerate, THAT was the white-half.
Different Strokes
EH! Color me surprised. Obama supporters still think he is that color opposite of black. Sanford and son could not even air in today’s world of P.C. so it is no wonder that O’wonderwoman got it wrong.
I’d give it a pass except Obama is just SOOOO arrogant, especially when he does his ethnic thing. There was one episode of Sanford and Son where Fred is concerned about his health, and the song “Freddie’s Dead” comes on the radio, oh my gosh, that was so funny. Priceless reaction from Redd Foxx.

blackwhite“got to have a piece of YOUR pie”
Damn….damn….DAMN!!!
Good post!
The thought crossed my mind, too; but you get full credit for it!
Barry was just trying to connect with his base.
Nobama is Eddie Haskell on Leave It To Beaver— you can’t trust him. BHO was probably being tutored by Frank Marshall Davis on Marxism and the radical proverbs of Saul Alinsky on activism, leaving no time for old sitcoms. You can see how he could mix up his characters.
Perhaps he will be quoting Mr. Ed soon.
What’s wrong Mookie?
Then he will lose the Black and the PETAvote.
He already is a talking jackass.
I see Biden has taught Obama well.
So if Obama looses, will he stomp his foot and say “McCain, McCain, MCCAIN!!!” like Jan Brady did “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!”?
I don’t fault Obama on this one, amusing but no big deal.
even marxists can make mistakes.
I’ll give him a pass on this one. Isabelle Sanford, Sanford and Son…eh,Weezie, Lizabeth…I’m a little confused myself.
What next? Mike Hunt?
Actually, he should quote Francis the talking mule!
The stupidest thing he is saying is the part about how horrible it would be if Social Security were invested in the market.
If I earned $10, and put it in my 401k, my employer would give me another $5. Assuming that money rose to $25 over the course of 5 years, and it was now only worth $19, I am still light years ahead of the investment I am getting on my Social Security “investment.”
The difference is far more staggering if you use the same numbers in a 401(k) that is 20 years old.
Not to mention that if my employer decided to dip into my 401(k)cash to pay some bills he’d be in prison for fraud, while our elected officials openly spent our excess Social Security funds, knowing full well that the baby boomers were going to need that money.
The market dip is temporary, but Social Security is broken forever.
Wow, who would want a president who’s no expert on 1970’s sitcoms ! I mean honestly, any Joe Six Pack or Hockey Mom could have answered that. What does this guy think of late at night – the economy or something ?
And congratulations go to Michelle Malkin for increasing the level of triviality in these Obama attacks. Please keep it up, it’s helping to make McCain look more and more foolish.
RAAAAACIST!!!!!!!
Gribble, the whole point is that if McCain or Palin said it the left would crow from the rooftops that somehow it meant that person was unfit to serve as President, when in fact everybody makes these gaffes occasionally.
George Jefferson would tell Obama what to do with his redistribution nonsense.
Mookie I think I’m slowing down. The mind isn’t what it was.
It was lost in the translation folks. He was actually quoting a Sinbad movie (no, not that Sinbad)…
‘Trust in Allah, but tie up your camel!’
Since you good people are discussing old sitcoms, I thought I’d throw in something I’ve thought about several times lately. Of those of you old enough to remember “All in the Family,” just how right was Archie Bunker when he referred to Meathead’s political associations and friends as “pinko-commies.” We laughed back then…
Redd Foxx died from a heart attack. He grabbed his chest on the set of his comeback show while everyone just stood around watching and laughing–they thought he was doing his famous gag–what a way to go. Foxx must be rolling in his grave, yelling, “Obama, you big dummy!”
I was reading about why Obama decided to change his name from Barry to Barack. It reminded me of when Lamont changed his name to Kalunda in the episode titled “Lamont Goes African.”
Sounds like an Obama donor.
True Snowfire. But MY dad knew. I hate it when he’s right.
Love it!
gribble : Are you that thick?
Yes, I am sure people would be OUTRAGED at republicans getting 20 year old sitcoms wrong. Black people as a group are defined by their are protectiveness of their 70’s sitcoms!
What an absurd post, even for the always humorless Malkin.
This.is.why.you’re.losing.
Now THIS is funny- a drunk and slurring Obama cold caller. You’ll crack up.
Don’t say I never give you anything!
http://macdaddyworld.com/2008/10/29/drunk-dialing-for-change/
RIGHT! Pay in all your life and die at 54 and your family gets $250. Pay half in, take the other half and invest it in a good mutual fund and make nada. Die at 54 and your gets $250 from SS AND what ever you invested. I can see why the dumb-arse Dimocraps would be opposed to this.
Now, it really is the big one Elizabeth!
Watershed is here, OH JOY!
The socialist watershed NEVER understands our humor.
Great. Now I’ve got the “Sanford and Son” theme playing in my head…
Obama has his power over you.
think of all the funny shows we can no longer see due to pc police. wc fields, amos and andy, butwheat and the gang, redd foxx, the rat pack live bits, the gong show. instead we have the hilarity of reese witherspoon in the trilogy of valley girls are really smart and nice people too.
and Archie had it right about meathead and Rob Reiner. Of course we know the pinko-commies are Obama’s biggest supporters.
A little about him:
-In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, Reiner, who is an endorser of Artists United to Win Without War, emerged as a vocal opponent of a U.S. military reprisal against those who had harbored and abetted the nineteen Islamic hijackers
-In 2004 Reiner praised the Michael Moore film Fahrenheit 9/11, which accused President Bush of having secretly colluded with the bin Laden family. “I think this is one of the most important films ever made,” said Reiner. “It has the potential of actually affecting the election, and if it does, it will change the world.”
Where is the videotape from the LA Times that will make Obama look foolish… without MM things like this would not even be known.
