    Iowahawk is correct; Too many flaws in the data and math in this election, too many faulty assumptions ie; Dems suposedly voting for Dem ticket. Not this time. Personal discussions tell me that a number of long term Dem voters are not going to vote Obama. It will be interesting. My non-scientific guess; Obama takes 8 states, & loses to the surprise of the media & “leftist supporters”. We’ll see in a week. Keep the faith (voters do understand the situation).

    What I’m afraid of more than anything at this point is, if McCain does win, how are Obama’s followers going to react? Peacefully? I doubt it.

    OT, Obama has a new ad going after Palin now. I guess the Obama campaign is so threatened by her. Unbelievable.

    It’s way to easy to unintentionally bias a poll.

    And you never EVER trust a weekend poll. They’re usually biased to the Democratic side.

    John, I believe you are missing the point. Polls, regardless of who or what is the favored selection, are often biased for reasons that even the pollster can’t control or sometimes understand.

    Poll results are massaged to fit what the pollster thinks is the right composition of the population involved. M/F.. age ranges, race, party, sometimes income, geographic areas.

    Rarely are any polls… “Right”. Even if you look at the cross-tabs.. those breakdowns of age, race, etc, the total vote may be close, but the sub-populations are often WAY off.

    So it’s all mostly luck. Though some do it better than others.

    Voter opinion polls are a waste of money and time …

    Why? … simple …

    1. They use the voter registration numbers to determine the weighting of the sample (Dems/Reps/Ind/) … think ACORN …

    2. They manipulate the answers by the way they phrase and present the questions that are asked …

    3. They assume that all the answers they get are truthful …

    and that is just for starters as to why I ignore polls …

    Some people will actually think the election is over and not bother going to vote because of polls … and that is the real “voter suppression” …

    I met him back when he was working in Huntsville.

    He was good hearted and dogged, but from what I could tell not grounded by any true understanding.

    He was more like the fan of a football or baseball team; anxious to see his team win.

    Philosophy, ideology, thought are not his strong suit. In this way he is nearly the same as those he is aligned against.

    If you do nothing but fight the dragon, you are in danger of becoming the dragon.

    I was also unimpressed by his inability to keep in touch with some of the people that befriended him and did him favors in Huntsville. But I shall say no more on that subject.

    1976, when Jimmah Carter got 50.1%.

    When was the last time before that when a Democrat got over 50% of the popular vote?

    1964, LBJ, when the country was still recovering from the murder of JFK and voted for stability.

    Help for the pollers
    \psi = 0 \; \mathrm{at} \;\; x = 0,\; x = L

    Consider x = 0

    * sin 0 = 0, cos 0 = 1. To satisfy \scriptstyle \psi = 0 \; the cos term has to be removed. Hence D = 0
    Now consider: \scriptstyle \psi = C \sin kx\;
    * at x = L, \scriptstyle \psi = C \sin kL =0\;
    * If C = 0 then \scriptstyle \psi =0 \; for all x. This would conflict with the Born interpretation
    * therefore sin kL = 0 must be satisfied, yielding the condition
    kL = n \pi \;\;\;\; n = 1,2,3,4,5,… \;

    In this situation, n must be an integer showing the quantization of the energy levels.
    DOES THAT HELP FOLKS?

    You have a point there about the Independents not in the stats. I also commented to my friends weeks back that the media is shooting themselves in the foot by waving the victory flag for Obama because Dems are notoriously lazy and will just stay home because they think their guy has won already. Even McCain said “We got him right where we want him” when refering to the Obama lead in the polls.
