Obama TV: Dear Leader’s infomercial

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 29, 2008 08:00 PM

Higher purpose…blahblahblah…Change We Need…blahblahblah…Every American must play a role…Take care of one another…blahblahblah…

Just doing a little pre-liveblogging of the Obama-mercial, which begins in just a few minutes.

Wonder if Aunt Zeituni Onyango will be tuning in:

Barack Obama has lived one version of the American Dream that has taken him to the steps of the White House. But a few miles from where the Democratic presidential candidate studied at Harvard, his Kenyan aunt and uncle, immigrants living in modest circumstances in Boston, have a contrasting American story.

Zeituni Onyango, the aunt so affectionately described in Mr Obama’s best-selling memoir Dreams from My Father, lives in a disabled-access flat on a rundown public housing estate in South Boston.

A second relative believed to be the long-lost “Uncle Omar” described in the book was beaten by armed robbers with a “sawed-off rifle” while working in a corner shop in the Dorchester area of the city. He was later evicted from his one-bedroom flat for failing to pay $2,324.20 (£1,488) arrears, according to the Boston Housing Court.

The US press has repeatedly rehearsed Mr Obama’s extraordinary odyssey, but the other side of the family’s American experience has only been revealed in parts. Just across town from where Mr Obama made history as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review, some of his closest blood relatives have confronted the harshness of immigrant life in America.

8:00pm Eastern. Here we go. The ad opens up with amber waves of grain, American flags…

The phoniness reeks.

“Change” count: 10.

Obama is now profiling Americans in economic distress.

1) Rebecca Johnson (Johnston?). She’s mad about rising mortgage payments.

Obama’s decrying the market turmoil, touting the “rescue plan” (AKA crap sandwich), and bloviating about his bogus tax cuts.

2) Now, he’s talking to a retiree about his pension. He repeats his new mantra that “government can’t solve all our problems.” He’s been saying this over and over again the past few days. His internals must show that the “Senator Government” jibe is hurting him. (See: The Democrats want your 401(k))

3) Obama moves on to a black couple without medical insurance and burdensome home payments. More sob stories.

No, don’t expect to see any sympathy for renters or couples who refrained from indulging in the subprime craze.

4) Promises, promises, promises — tax credits for fuel efficient cars, invest in clean coal, expand domestic production for oil.

Again: “Government can’t do it all.”

And: “Usher in a new era of responsibility.”

5) Iraq. “We are spending more in Iraq now than when we started the war.” So… he wouldn’t have spent money on the surge that he opposed but now supports?

Google CEO Eric Schmidt makes an appearance. Va. Democrat Gov. Tim Kaine.

6) Another heart-wrenching tale. A woman working two jobs and taking classes at night. She feels like she’s drowning in bills.

Who doesn’t?

It’s not clear what exactly she wants — and what Obama wants us to do. Pay for her educational training? What?

7) Obama is talking about his family now. Too funny: They’re playing his soundbite about turning the tv off and putting away the video games. Tell it to Malia, mister.

Hardly saw his father. Had to wake up early. Now here we go: His Education Plan will give tax credits for training. Right To Affordable Health Care.

But hey – government can’t solve all our problems!

8:18pm Eastern. Now, he’s talking about his mother. No mention of Aunt Zeituni or the brother in the Kenyan shanty.

8:19pm Eastern. BITTER HALF ALERT. Michelle Obama praises The One’s fathering skills. “He doesn’t forget anything.”

Oh, dear. They just showed the clip of him proclaiming, “I am my brother’s keeper.”

Quintuple-snort-worthy.

8:20pm Eastern. SMIRKY JOE ALERT. Me, too. Me, too. Smirky’s a working-class, regular Joe, too!

8. Another couple facing hard times, layoffs.

9) Obama promises to be Mr. Tough on national security. He’ll bolster the military. (Not if Barney Frank has his say.)

Guffaw: A supporter says he wants a leader who is devoted to the Constitution.

Sorry, I am having a snort attack.

Gag: A slideshow of glowy, Messianic photos flashes by. Obama hugs. Obama empathizes. Obama heeeaaaaals.

All hail the Lightworker. Fixer of Souls. Spreader of Wealth.

8:26pm Eastern. Bill Suck-Up Richardson makes an appearance. Auditioning for Energy Secretary or something.

Finally: Website pluggage: barackobama.com. Go. Now.

The Obama Programming Project is complete.

Kneel before Zod!

Nostalgia always makes the past look brighter, doesn’t it? :)

I miss the days when those with opposing viewpoints did not find it necessary to post 100 times in rapid fire (most responses lacking much in the way of substance). That seems to be a growing trend lately on both sides here.

I will answer my own question. Michigan’s state government is run by Democrats. Because of their complete ineptness at running the business (or lack thereof) of the state, their answer to the economic woes is to #1 – keep voting in the same idiots, #2 – ask the government to bail out the only industry left (you guessed it, the auto industry which is unionized, they don’t have a right to work law there) and #3 – tax the remaining residents until they can’t afford to feed the family because Michigan needs the revenue. They would tax people to breath there if they could. I don’t know where they are on the list of state handouts, but I promise you they are waaayyy up at the top.

Anyway, Acorn is being vetted, wildly so. They are being scrubbed, by dems and repubs alike. They have lost much of their already small amount of credibility with many of the electorate.

The demonization of the fake registration is the issue I have with all of this- McCain saying “the fabric of our democracy is being threatened” is incredibly irresponsible. The bottom line is that giving out the responsibility of registering names for voting backfired due to lazy near homeless types scribbling in names.

Should that be handled? Yes. Will it affect the election in any way? No.

But…will demonizing acorn as a “conspiracy against democracy” have an effect on poor people who might otherwise genuinely register though Acorn’s legitimate efforts? THAT is my issue.

Objecting to Obama trying to be President Robin Hood, taking from the rich (whoever he deems is rich) through taxation and doing with the money as he sees fit (which may or may not mean giving to the poor)? His assocations with an America hater who attacked his own country and an Israel hater or two?

If those things bother some of us, I don’t call that “derangement”. I call it common sense.

I dont find my observation as a cop out..its what i do, and have done here, for a while ;) Some posters here can tell you i’ve crossed swords with people, and agreed with them on another topic. Its the nature of the beast here in cyberspace.

I havent seen alot of the vetting for ACORN…but i havent had them on the radar much lately. If they are, then good…let them continue until finally, it might be looked at favorably again.

You have to remember, as far as McCain saying that…its hype. He and his counterparts are just bags of hot air. Do i think it will have an effect on the election…not as much as some, but…if the effect was say two percent..would it be enough? Look back at the Gore/Bush race…that 2% could be an issue. Not saying it will, but…keeping things as trim, and honest, as possible, is a laudible and obtainable goal so that no one (regardless of what side of the aisle they are on) can come back and claim they were cheated out of victory.

I wouldnt be so quick to pin all of your hopes for voter registration on ACORN though…there are multiple, and highly visible ways, to get registered to vote. For instance, in Tennessee, when you go to any of their offices to ask for unemployment or other benefits, they specifically ask you if you’re registered to vote, and if not, would you like to do so. Certainly, people out of work and looking for help would be qualified as poor, or at least in need. One can go few places that are government affiliated without running into voter registration notices. Your local DMV, the post office, and so on…places that regardless of income or education, we all go to at one point or another.

Right, and you won’t find any post of mine in which I threatened violent revolution or said I would leave the country. I even have my doubts about the likelihood of riots on Election Night (knock wood). I was spelling out for you why I, personally, and many others here, have our doubts about Obama.

If various far-left celebs threatened to leave if Bush won and are still here, I think they have put themselves in a position to be called out for hypocricy, as has anyone who says they will leave if Obama wins and does not follow through on their “threat” if indeed he does. I agree with you that such extreme talk is nothing but that – talk – but disagree that there are not rational reasons to doubt Obama.

So, you call it “hype”. I call it a central tenet of the McCain campaign. And I have heard a WHOLE LOT about Acorn over the past month.

But Acorn and “socialist communist muslim terrorist radical America hater” are literally all McCain has to say. And he’s fortunately going down in flames.

Also! Acorn is NOT the only place for the poor to vote, true. However the difference is that it’s an outreach program designed specifically to register the poor. If the poor and disenfranchised were all registered, like I said, this country would have ten parties, like crazy Italy. Repubs, (and Dems, too, admittedly, though on a lesser scale) cannnot have that.

I say dismissed to everyone i talk to…its an old habit. Dont take it for anything other than that, truth be told. We all say things to get under the skin of others. I simply do so in an effort to make people look at what they’re saying, and to really vet out where they are coming from.

Your image as smooth and intelligently withdrawn spectator is safe with me, abstract.

That’s not really my image. Its how i am normally. But I can be just as callous, vile, meanspirited and aggressive (and sometimes to a greater degree) that others here. I simply choose not to level that out on people without good reason. I am, however, mostly withdrawn from the election mess, simply because there’s nothing there worth staying around for at this point.

Hype, watershed, is the center of politics. I don’t brand that specifically to anyone or anything. If you’re a politician, then you’re full of crap. That’s pretty much across the board, and i agree that its hurting him alot to maintain a negative position. As posted before, I think McCain’s message is mostly negative. But there’s plenty of hype on the other side too, if i’m not mistaken. ;)

Even if I only set aside the rhetoric of McCain’s camp, and focus only on Obama…I can’t see where he’s going to do anything different. A while back, i posted that i thought both were cancers. Just one was going to kill you slower than the other. Obama is the fast track to ruin. I don’t believe he has anything but his own interests at heart, that he’ll do anything he can to make it look like he’s everything but what he is, and that he only cares about his own ambition and not the people he’s hurting in the process. And his voting record speaks to that effect. If you can find times he didnt pass on a vote..which greatly outweighs the times he has voted.

I also agree on the multiparty comment. More or less, that’s already in place to a lesser degree. But i dont agree with the notion that by not having the -outreach- program, that its disenfrancising voters, or anything else. There are alot of drives, commercials, radio spots, flyers, posters…the list goes on…on getting out the vote, and making sure to register. Even poor people watch MTV. You cant help but be exposed to the voting drives. The only people who dont register to vote are the ones who dont care, or are too lazy to do so. Just my 2 cents.

The liberal/socialist/communist agenda has been slowly slogging along attacking us for a long time. One of their most apparent successes has been to remove God from people’s lives so that people will then turn to the STATE as a substitute. Their mantra has always called for less God and more government, “GOD IS BAD; STATE IS GOOD”.

I contend that all of this Obama mania is witness to the success they have had at taking God out of our lives. People WANT to believe in a higher power, they WANT to believe that there is some common good in all of us to bring us together but the drip-drip of liberal cynicism that surrounds us daily, the liberal attack on morality, the liberal focus on materialism as being the basis for happiness, causes many to doubt any underlying religious thought they may have ever had.

It started with taking prayer out of public schools with no Constitutional basis to do so. Then abortion was accepted, marriage subverted, etc. – every step along the way has been a step AWAY from God.

God loves me and YOU. But there are now many of YOU out there who do not know that. You may even find yourself frightened at the thought of accepting God’s love because you have no idea what it means. Instead you run to someone like Obama perhaps as some sort of ‘god’ who you hope will love you and will watch over your dreary mortal life? I really don’t know the precise reason; I am not you.

Whatever your reason, make no mistake that we ALL WALK TOGETHER in the shadow of the valley of death every single day. You know that you can feel it, you know there is a fear about it lingering within you, and you know within your very soul that you cannot escape it.

So yes, you must admit to yourself right here and now that your own mortality is what most scares you and it is one thing that persists within your otherwise empty heart despite your attempt to cover it over with words and things. Please know that that is only true because you have been blinded from seeing the true path. If you were given the choice of where you want to be for eternity, what place would that be? Where will you go, what direction? Admit that you simply do not know; admit to yourself, on that question, you are lost.

With the path made invisible to you, you are blindly following voices such as an ‘Obama’, words that beckon you to trust and guide you, to ‘save you’ somehow. But deep within you, you know that no person can possibly know you as you know yourself; neither Obama nor any other person can possibly know the emptiness within your heart.

I have good news for you. God does know you. God knows you exactly the same way that you know yourself! God sees your empty heart and wants to fill it with joy because God has ALWAYS loved you! God never stopped loving you! The only thing that you need to do is ALLOW IT; accept it within yourself, just tell yourself the TRUTH: “GOD LOVES ME”

Bring yourself to say it and one more simple word if you can – AMEN

Your “fast track to ruin” comment is pretty dramatic, given the fact that the last 8 years have led to the financial and social catastrophes that lay all around us. Iraq, Katrina and the economic bubble bursting are going to go down as the three WORST political legacies in history. That’s literally all time worst. You’re average pol, for example, like Obama, doesnt have that kind of track record.

All politicians fail in one way or another. Its part of our system. Individuals cannot speak for everyone, by nature. They do what they can and try to speak for as many as they can.

But, and this is objectively speaking, and agreed with by pretty much everyone, that the most spectacular epic fail presidency of all time has been George W. Bush’s. So to say Obama’s gonna lay waste or whatever you’re saying, I just cant buy that. he will have his problems, as they all do. Maybe he might even choke the first year. Who knows. But to try and reach anywhere NEAR W’s standards of failure is really, historically speaking, next to impossible.

I know that the liberals give the Clinton administration a lot of credit for a good economy. They forget a few basic facts.
    1. There were terrorist attacks all over the world which killed American citizens. There was the first bombing of the world trade center, etc. etc. Clinton did nothing. Therefore, no hit on our economy. But he did nothing to stem terrorism either, did he? He passed the problem on to the next President. That would be Bush.
    2. There was a major attack on our country. Remember 9/11? We responded to it and have rid the world of a lot of really really bad people.
    3. There have been many natural disasters in this country since Bush took office. They all cost plenty in terms of money and jobs.
Now, could Bush have trimmed the fat in the budget a lot better? Yes! But to give Clinton praise for his great administration and blame Bush for everything bad that he inherited from Clinton is just plain silly. I am not a big fan of Pres. Bush right now because he seems to be sitting around killing time. I also hate his stance on immigration reform. But he is a good man with high moral standards, and another thing…I doubt that he was schlumping an intern under his desk.

Hi misscheryl, nice to see you again too :)

Water, is bush an epic fail. Oh yeah. I wouldnt even try to argue that.

But I don’t agree that Obama couldnt come thru and pull off a raid-wipe style Leroy Jenkins fail. ;)

If you take each issue seperately, and pick it apart, its not hard to see where the fail is going to come from.

    for example:
Obama’s plan will cut taxes overall, reducing revenues to below the levels that prevailed under Ronald Reagan (less than 18.2 percent of GDP). The Obama tax plan is a net tax cut – his tax relief for middle class families is larger than the revenue raised by his tax changes for families over $250,000. Coupled with his commitment to cut unnecessary spending, Obama will pay for this tax relief while bringing down the budget deficit.

That can be found directly at this link

Tax breaks for me? Thats awesome. Taxes wont go up? Thats awesome too. So…where is the money going to come from to pay for all of the wonderful social programs Obama wants to implement that are going to cost hundreds of billions, if not trillions of dollars?

From big companies! Stick it to them!

Oh. Wait. When you tax companies like that, they have to recover the loss somewhere. They arent going to just sit and take a hit and lose profit and go “well, since its for Obama, we should just let that go this quarter!”

They’re going to shove that price increase into the goods and services you buy. That money is going to come from somewhere. And its going to be the consumer. $1000 a year in tax credits is nice…until you place that against the rising costs of things. If your bills increased 5% next year, would that tax credit cover everything? not really…you’d more than likely, depending on your income/debt ratio, be right back where you started, if not a step back. But you’d feel better, because you got a fat check in the mail. And when it dissolves under the increase of debt, well…you get the picture.

to put numbers into it, i’ll use mine. 1400 a month in bills. not including child support. just rent, food, water, the basics. now, increase that by 5%. 70 bucks extra a month. now, multiply that by 12. Bills go up 840 dollars over the course of the year. I got 1000 back. Now assuming (yes, yes i know…) that NOTHING else went up, or nothing else was a factor..my huge tax break is a whopping 160 dollars. and thats just small numbers. i dont have a huge mortgage or car payments really…but if the number was say 2000 a month…then your bills go up at a 5% rate…thats 1200 a year. Now, you’re 200 behind where you started, tax break wise. If you added in an increase in goods and services, even by half a percent…my first set of numbers at 1400 in bills would obliterate your tax credit. Now, your debts go up, the cost of things rise, AND your tax credit is a sham. How about just letting people keep the money and not having to pay it in the form of some tax, one way or the other? Just seems like a huge shell game, doesnt it? I would also point out that tax credits for single parents also dont reflect on the parent making child support payments. on top of the fact that men get destroyed by courts on the matter, the person who has the children gets another huge check while the other parent struggles to even put food on the table. Sad state of affairs.

I dont think McCain’s approach is much better…but i think his numbers better reflect, in this case, the reality of the tax system and how badly we are in need of finacial reforms in our country.

And i would interject that yes, spending 10 billion in iraq might go for something better. But i’m not counting on Obama to put it to good use. That money might as well not be available at all, at that point.

He also had a house of cards built with the .com fiasco during his tenure that falsely gave the impression that the economy was doing well.

The biggest issue I have with liberals is that they fall all over themselves to spend money, OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY!

When you get right down to it, they demand that the government do what has historically been between private individuals and groups and often affiliated with churches. Then, again, how many modern liberals are devoutly religious today?

Could someone please tell me what it is that the Democrat controlled House and Senate did to stop the financial issues we are facing today?

You know…as much as i dislike to say this, and i know you’re meaning well…this isnt the 700 Club. … I just dont feel this is the place for giving a Sermon on the Mount to those engaging in political discourse.

Sorry. I just think the basis for BHO’s following has to be more cult than a political so I’m attacking what I believe to be the underlying cause that fosters it – liberal Godlessness in America. (I think that someone like Ann Coulter would give me a pass…)

    I apologize for any inconvenience.
