Report: Another case of disabled voters coached into supporting Obama

By Michelle Malkin  •  October 29, 2008 05:15 AM

More than a week ago, I noted the story of a south Georgia disabled man whose family says an adult rehab house aide commandeered his vote and pushed him into marking his ballot for Obama. “They told me to vote for Obama, I said no I wanted to vote for McCain,” Jack Justice told WALB-TV. (links here and here)

Now, there’s another report of disabled voters who appear to have been exploited by Obama followers. The new story comes from California:

The California Republican Party is asking the secretary of state to investigate an organized voting campaign involving developmentally disabled adults in Tuolumne County.

As many as ten clients of the Thumbs Up! adult care center have already cast absentee ballots under the supervision of center director David Simerley, and nearly all of them were for Barack Obama.

“We all registered to vote and we all sat together as a group and went over our ballots and voted,” Simerley told News10.

Among those voting was Michael Rascon, 56, whose father described him as having the mental capacity of a 5-year-old.

“What kind of people would do this to somebody like that,” asked Sam Rascon, who discovered his son had registered and voted only after seeing him with an Obama button last Thursday. “He wouldn’t know one candidate from another.”

News10 spoke to Michael Rascon at the Thumbs Up! center about the election. When asked which candidate he’d voted for, Rascon answered “the black man.” He was unable to remember Obama’s name.

Simerley said the absentee voting followed field trips to both local Republican and Democratic party headquarters.

“When we register people to vote, we try to be totally non-partisan,” Simerley said. He insists he exerted no influence over his clients despite the fact nearly all of them voted Democratic in an otherwise Republican county.

“I think maybe Obama would appeal to people with disabilities,” he explained.

Guess Simerley conveniently forgot to tell them about Sarah Palin before taking advantage of them.

For shame.

Federal Judge Rules Homeless Can List Park Bench as Address
    Posted by Kim Priestap
    Published: October 28, 2008 – 5:35 PM

A park bench can be used as an address for a voter registration form? How do you even list is as an address? How do you prove you’ve “lived” at that park bench for 30 days, which is how long you have to be a resident of Ohio before you can vote. No utility company or bank will send a bill to a park bench.

A federal judge in Ohio has ruled that counties must allow homeless voters to list park benches and other locations that aren’t buildings as their addresses.

U.S. District Judge Edmund Sargus also ruled that provisional ballots can’t be invalidated because of poll worker errors.

Monday’s ruling resolved the final two pieces of a settlement between the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless and Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

The coalition agreed to drop a constitutional challenge to Ohio’s voter identification law until after the Nov. 4 election. In return, Brunner and the coalition agreed on procedures to verify provisional ballots across all Ohio counties.

This is part of an effort by a homeless advocacy group to get the law that requires voter ID and residency for voting overturned on the grounds that it violates Ohio’s Constitution. It doesn’t matter if it will cause massive voter fraud. Let anyone from anywhere go into Ohio and vote there. People who live in border states would be able to vote in their own states and then drive to Ohio and vote again if there is no longer a residency or voter ID requirement.

The ruling by this district judge should be overruled by a higher court because it’s ridiculous on its face. And I’m expecting any attempt by this homeless advocacy group to kill the law requiring voter ID and residency to vote would be shot down as well. But if you get a bunch of liberal activist judges hearing the case, you just never know.

Added: Just to clarify, I don’t have an issue with the homeless voting. My issue is with using park benches and overpasses as residences. Those who are homeless should be required to use a shelter’s address because at least it can be verified that the person in question has been there, which would provide an indication that he or she is actually a resident of Ohio. But using a park bench? How do you confirm that information?

Also, Brian pointed out that the park bench as a residence issue became law in 2006 but that Cuyahoga County required a shelter as an address. Well, I agree with Cuyahoga County on this one. I’m curious if some of Ohio’s voter registration fraud problems can be traced back to this law.

On second thought, ilovemycountry, keep up your mature, intellectually stimulating posts. So far, you seem to heave treaded the “fine line” of saying something so offensive that it gets you banned, but we can always hope.

Trust me, you would not be missed. You are a child, however old you may be in years.

I know someone that sounds kinda like him and he’s from Kenya? They are more of the ‘world citizen’ types.

This happened at a number of assisted living facilities in Washington state in the 2004 election. One of the important constituencies of Christine Gregoire. One family complained that their deaf, blind, mentally handicapped son had somehow gotten an absentee ballot and voted for in the election. Turns out that the staff had gotten all the residents of the facility absentee ballots and voted for the residents. The elections officials just shrugged their shoulders and claimed there was nothing they could do.

This was NOT an isolated incident. This was a coordinated effort, the union representing the workers claimed they were only helping disenfranchised voters to vote. Of course the vote gave a second, third, fourth or more votes for the left leaning cheats.

In Washington state our spineless Secretary of State is pushing for all mail in voting. This is just a further erosion of being able to make sure that only registered voters are the ones that cast their ballots.

This is why we need to require people to register in person. That and the fact that dead people and pets can register. Since this was a hugely republican county, these votes are probably moot. But it is sad to see what the dims will do to try and win.

My mother is in a nursing home. She is 80 years old. Her family have been Republicans since the Civil War. About three months ago I asked her who she was voting for and she said, “Obama.” I said, “What?! He’s a Communist!” This came as news to her. She was told by the nursing home staff to vote for Obama.

Preying on the infirm is not right. But that’s what’s going to put this fraud over the top. It is utterly disgusting to me but thanks to the media, it’s too late. They’re only pretending to do their job now, knowing it can’t affect the outcome. I despair for my country.

They’re targeting people with “diminished capacity” in Iowa, too.

Iowa, interestingly, has a law (clearly unenforced) that “idiots and imbeciles” are ineligible to vote; there’s a referendum to replace that language with something more clinical.
