Take Obama’s own advice tonight: “Turn off the TV!”
You can’t escape the hype over Barack Obama’s 30-minute infomercial tonight.
It’ll be aired on four broadcast networks at 8 p.m. Eastern. The NYTimes notes this “will be the first time in 16 years that a presidential candidate has bought network time, in prime time, for a prolonged campaign commercial.”
Michelle Obama told Jay Leno that her daughter Malia complained: “‘You’re going to be on all the TV? Are you going to interrupt my TV?’”
‘No, we didn’t buy time on Disney and Nick.’ And she said, ‘Oh good.’ And got up and walked away. She’s just like: ‘Don’t mess with My TV.’ “
Hmph. Looks like the Obamas aren’t practicing what they preach to other parents:
We’re going to have to parent better, and turn off the television set, and put the video games away, and instill a sense of excellence in our children, and that’s going to take some time.
Video game makers had a good snort when the Obamessiah then turned around and started advertising on…video games.
Do as they say: Turn off the TV!
I’ll cover the Obamgasm so you don’t have to tune in. Expect a rehash of the “higher purpose” drivel we heard on Monday.

Here’s a thought: Let’s demand that McCain get a half-hour of air time, gratis, since that is what would (well, should) be required if the Fairness Doctrine was reinistituted, and it very well may be under an Obama administration.
McLintock is my all-time favorite with Wayne and O’Hare. There were so many quotes that I enjoy from that film:

I just went to Costco and bought the DVD “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and it came with 3D glasses! Cool! Besides, does anyone watch network TV anymore? I honestly don’t know anyone.

I won’t be watching anything until World Series Game 5 resumes, anyway. But I’m a little annoyed to note that there still is NO McCain channel on the Dish Network to offset Obama’s 24-hour blather-TV.
The John Wayne movie set in Hawaii was “Donovan’s Reef.”
“In Harms Way” was a WWII movie with Kirk Douglas and a HUGE cast of actors and actresses you loved. In black and white.

I always was impressed with how good at comedy Lee Marvin was.
Watch and look for signs of this.

i thought he was only on nbc, cbs and fox? is that some of the biden’s method of counting? did i miss one? just so i know what channels to NOT turn to. maybe i’ll just play it safe and keep my tv OFF all night.

What I wish was available on DVD is the TV special he did back in the late 60’s (or was it early 70’s); IIRC it was called Swing Out Sweet Land. A whole slew of Hollywood celebs existed back then who weren’t ashamed to be patriotic, and they joined the Duke in celebrating what made/makes America great.
One especially memorable bit was the great Red Skelton retelling how his teacher recited an annotated version of the Pledge of Allegiance. He’d done it elsewhere and I know it was on YouTube. Well done. It’s what we need more of.

I don’t think it was set in Hawaii, but was a South Sea island (some place similar to Tahiti, only not specifically there).
Being from the Bay State, I always related because the heroine was (in the beginning at least) the stereotypical proper Bostonian.

You’ll forgive me but “Sands of Iwo Jima” was my least favorite… had to watch that thing in boot camp…. BAD memories….lol
I have a constructive TV-based alternative for y’all. Instead of turning off the TV, why not just change the channel to ABC, and experience the most delightful show on my viewing schedule (”Pushing Daisies”)?
It’s a win-win – you get to hear witty dialog, and “PD” gets better ratings, increasing the chances that it will be renewed for a 3rd year. Also, you’ll reward ABC for NOT airing the Messiah’s infomercial.

I think I’ll start with the Sermon on the Mount – Matthew 5 – since ZERObama, the ignorant one, thinks that it was too radical for America to actually follow…or something insane like that.

Well, I’ll turn off the television but I went one better. I made a point of either calling or emailing the local stations to tell them that I would NOT watch their station during the time Obama was going to air his political smut! I was polite and friendly and I didn’t use the language I just used, but I was firm that I was not going to tune in to their station during that time. CBS was polite and non-comittal. NBC was smug and unfriendly. Fox was emailed and I’ve not gotten an answer back yet.
I love my DVR. Record the shows I love and then fast forward through commercials (political ads and all!)
I will have to delete almost my entre season of Burn Notice in order to record the GhostHunters marathon (Go TAPS!) A mandate has been set forth within my house, that I MUST record it, or otherwise she will die and the world will come to and end.
