Gap’s garbly response?

Here you go:

Dear gap.com Customer,

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding Gap’s current “Vote for
___.” campaign.

Gap has always stood for self-expression and individuality, and with one of the nation’s most important elections on the horizon, we’ve launched a program that encourages people to express their opinions and ideas. The Limited Edition Vote Buttons were designed by ten renowned artists, and the “VOTE TWICE!” button was designed by John Waters. Also, a portion of the proceeds from every button sold will go to “Declare Yourself”.

We value each of our employees’ and our customers’ unique ideas and opinions. It is not our intention to offend anyone in any way.

Thank you again for contacting us.

Sincerely,

Shelly

At the end of the day, the thing that stops this country from devolving into civil war is the universal belief that the people have recourse to the ballot box and the process of electing our leaders is valid.

The Democrats have been working at wittling away this central prop of our society since Florida 2000. This business of ACORN and the multiple voting could be the final kick that works it loose.

“But it’s so simple. All I have to do is divine it from what I know of you. Are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemies? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you … But you must have known I was not a great fool; you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.”

    “You’ve made your decision then?”

“[Happily] Not remotely! Because Iocaine comes from Australia. As everyone knows, Australia is entirely peopled with criminals. And criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me. So, I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you…”

    And so on.

    Vizzini, from Princess Bride.

Let’s not get too clever for our own good. Either the election is corrupted, or it is not. Notions etc. can only cloud the water.

Here’s a nice summary of Acorn for you who really have NO IDEA what it is.

What is Acorn?- a lobbying group. Except they represent poor people instead of profitable corporations so they’re a much less successful lobbying group.

Acorn- what do they do? They started as a radical group dedicated to getting welfare recipients and underemployed non-welfare recipients together to demand socialist things like free lunches for kids and emergency room care. Now they lobby Democrats for terrorist things like raising the minimum wage and forcing the government to subsidize affordable housing.

Also, they organize voter registration drives.

Wait, what about all these CRIMES they have been committing? ACORN pays local losers in Florida $8 an hour to gather 20 voter registrations a day. So some of these losers are lazy, like all employees, and just make up the registrations. ACORN does try to find these made-up registrations and fire the employees who submit them, but, you know, sometimes they miss a couple. Also the law seems to say that ACORN has to submit all the registrations they gather no matter what, and even though the law is a little bit vague, they’re still trying to follow it.

Why do Republicans need to attack and delegitimize a damn voter registration drive??

Because a certain amount of passive voter suppression is built in to the Republican campaign strategy. If all the disenfranchised and disenchanted voters were organized and registered and informed, we’d probably be a crazy socialist 10-party country like Italy or something. The GOP engages in active voter suppression—voter ID laws and legal challenges—and the more passive kind built into the democratic process, like engendering cynicism about the democratic process.

Obviously convincing the guys who disagree with you to not vote is part of any party’s campaign strategy, but the GOP’s by necessity targets poor people and minorities, and the vast history of suppressing the votes of poor people and minorities is way grosser than any history of disenfranchising white protestants. To me! Maybe you have some totally oppressed landed gentry in your family tree so you may feel differently.

This sort of reminds me of the “small crimes” that Guiliani cleaned up in NYC, to help reduce the big crime. To me, a store that is listed on our stock exchanges, taking advantage of our laws and legal system, should not be party to this.

I dont think you know what demonization and hyperbole mean.

Yes, of course. You could have stopped at: I don’t think….

The dems have been taking care of the legal aspects of the situation without HEAVILY POLITICIZING them as some sort of “end of democracy” meme to scare people out of voting.

“To scare people out of voting”… you don’t partake of the hyperbole, now do you?

Did y’all like his line about ACORN forcing the government to provide “affordable housing”? IOW certain resentful people feel they have a right to have others pay so they can live in housing they themselves cannot afford.

It’s Freddie/Fannie redux. But Watershed still doesn’t get it.

Watch wildabeasts cross a crocidile infested river. Same principle. Overwhelm whose looking within a finite amount of time, and a large number get through.

Heck I saw a TAMMS clerk do the same thing to an inspector. He filled his records with lots of small things so the inspector would not have time to dig deep and see the REAL bad things. It worked.

ACORN is well oranized, deliberate and far from stupid.

One Mickey Mouse is of no consequence. 500 like him overwhelm a registar and all of the registered dead people slip by.

Yesterday ACORN subnitted over 5,000 resgistrations in Florida. After going through the first 400 to 500 and finding EVERYONE of them was fraudulannt the registar pitched the remainder. Good for them.

Unless you ae a Kool Aid drinker one has to ask this question. If a group like ACORN wants credability you would think their MANAGERS and SUPERVISORS would not want Mickey Mouse to go forward. Why do their managers allow them to go forward?

You would think ACORN, a national organization, would want their efforts to be considered top of the line. They are anything but. Well…… Why does their management not care?

Same reason the Obama campaign jsut raised 150 million in one month. 100 million was from the Internet, and most of that 100 million were from untraceable prepaid credit cards with obviously fraudulant names. Hmmmmmmm.

The strategy is the same. Flood the system with crap, overwhelm it and make it so stinkky no one can ever figure out what happened until AFTER the election is over in 5 days.

Voting for Obama is rhe equivalent of aiding and abetting a felon.

That is just rediculous. This is about trust. Americans should be able to trust that when we give up our hard earned tax dollars to an organization that is supposedly non partisan that they be just that….non partisan. ACORN endorsing ANY candidate violates that trust.
