Left-wing cartoonist and political prognosticator Gary Trudeau has already drawn his Obama victory strip and distributed it to hundreds of newspapers. A few editors are mulling over Trudeau’s premature celebration, but he’s not budging.

There are two groups of people who are being galvanized to get out and vote: liberals and lefties in their hatred and lust for “revenge” for the past eight years; and those who watch Hopenchange & Co.’s increasingly brazen displays of hubris, and who — even though they may not be crazy for McCain — will if for no other reason cast their ballots as a middle-finger statement to The Man Who Would Be King and to the media cheerleaders carrying him on their shoulders.
A big reason why the polls are tightening is because the former group are already tapped out, while the latter group is growing in both numbers and emotional intensity.
So let Hopenchange — with his already-written inaugural address, with his propaganda informercial, with his million-dollar election night party preparations, with his already-formed “transition team,” with his phony presidential seal, and with his “touchdown-dance-on-the-40-yard-line” sycophants like Trudeau — go on doing what they’re doing.
They’re only reminding people like me of Admiral Yamamoto’s prophecy after Pearl Harbor: “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant, and to fill him with a terrible resolve.”

Personally, I go by what I see. There have been lines out the door every day of early voting, and there aren’t many Democrats in this county. I’ve seen a total of two Obama yard signs, and I’ve been through a lot of local neighborhoods lately. Obama is back campaigning in Iowa – a state he’s supposed to have in the bag (supposedly to increase his margin of victory. And another member of Obama’s campaign has spilled the beans on their internal polling – they’re scared.
erica jong gave an interview saying she was sooo worried and so were a lot of the left that the republican mafia would steal this election too sparking a civil war. bush brought home some troops from iraq so cheney could lead them to quell the civil unrest. a fear of flying, this broad is crazy.

I have to admit, the main reason I’m voting for McCain now is because I would just love to see this kind of hubris punished. I’d love to see an ego so unjustifiably huge as Obama’s get crushed.
You don’t know how right you are. There are rumored to be masses of senior military members who will drop their papers to retire before 20 Jan if Obummer wins. My wife has 23 in now and intends to retire in a couple more. She can’t stand the thought of Oboyoboy’s name on her certificate.
I have always thought that if Obama is less then 5% in the ramasen(sp) poll, he is finished. With the momentum shifting towards McCain this late, the pendulum will be situated rightward come election day. All in part because of the brady effect as well as general electorial apathy from key constituents (ie young people). The best thing from the McCain side of things is to allow young people to continue to believe that Obama has the election in the bag. Then the bran-dead vote will not see the need to go to the polls come Tuesday.

My Dad had a response to that…. he’d always say, ” How does it feel to want?” This was usually in response to us kids when we’d caterwaul ” I want that!”
Doonesbury, despite it’s liberal slant was actually pretty funny back in the 70’s. Most of the humor was directed at the right but he mocked the left too, especially hippies and the drug culture. It was always enjoyable to read. After Reagan was elected Trudea’s cartoon took on a very bitter edge, grew worse through the 80’s, and the humor became vicious to the point it was no more than politcal spin. I eventually gave up reading it some time ago as, like so many things liberal, became too sanctimonious and arrogant.
