Halloween open thread

The kids and I toasted our pumpkin seeds, carved our pumpkins, and are monitoring our sugar levels (I’m partial to Smarties).

I didn’t have time to make a costume this year. For those of you who are new to the blog, check out my iphone costume from last year here.

My son is currently obsessed with Pokemon, so he chose Pikachu:

Here are the creations adorning our porch:

The Michelle Obama pumpkin was too scary to carve:

Let me know what Halloween mischief you were up to tonight.

One last treat for you: A cool stop-motion animation video of a Halloween Awakening…

Dude, its open thread, its all yours since the ‘elders’ are already asleep in front of their computer screens and most of the parents are experiencing the sugar high/crash at the moment. ;)

My daughter is asleep early tonight since I implemented a communications black-out a while ago. I am about to pretend I am the IRS following the new Obama tax plan: Basically I will be raiding all of her candy and deciding how much she will be getting back in the morning.

Then Im going snowboarding all weekend.

Hmmmmm, interesting timing. Late at night – on a Friday – on a Holiday.

I like this part: “It was not immediately clear how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order.” Oh my, this is not the Aunti Zeituni I used to know!!

Notice that Obama’s family is already taking advantage of spreading our wealth around?

Anyone want to bet that she has already voted too?

Just taking advantages that Americans will not do?

Well, another Halloween has come and gone…one more closer to the last time I will be walking the neighborhood with my daughters, and that makes me a bit sad.

Since it was raining off and on, there was nowhere near the amount of Trick or Treaters running amock, and I could not help but notice that there was but a mere fraction of houses that actually decorated this year. This is a trend I hope does not carry over to Christmas.

The stuff they caught on “Ghost Hunters” was truly incredible, with the “You do not belong here” disembodied voice sending chills and goosebumps all over every time I watch it. If you don’t believe in ghosts, I gotta tell ya…that might just do it.

My neighbors were giving me a bit of a time that I was in mere street clothes. Normally I dress up and go around with my daughters. This year, for personal reasons, I just didn’t feel like it. Then it came to me.

The next time one of them said something I told them, “What do you mean I am not in costume. I decided to go around as an Obama Supporter. After all, in my belief, there is NOTHING more terrifying than an Obama Supporter.”

That seemed to get a laugh..even from the Obama supporters. I even made all my own tombstones this year, with the biggest one declaring the death of the DNC. According to my teenager who stayed home to hand out the treats, that one was the biggest hit. Apparently people were taking pictures of and with it with one person stating he will return today with a camera. That made me have a bit more hope in my neighbors.

Either that, or they are going to turn me in to the Blue Shirts to have me slotted in for the first bus out to the Obama Re-education Camps come the last Wednesday in January. I’ll post it later.

I can relate to many of the comments posted here about the teenagers showing up in hoodies and pillowcases.

I had that happen quite a few times last year and was amazed at their rude and selfish behavior, so this year, after the cute kids and their costumes trickled down to almost no trick or treaters, I turned off the porch lights.

One aspect of the evening involving teenagers that was actually pleasant and uplifting were a group of girls from a church group that were collecting canned goods for the city mission. I told the girls to hold on a minute while I went to the pantry to grab some cans of food.

While giving the girls the canned goods, I asked if they were trick or treating in addition to collecting donations, and they replied no, they were doing this for the church this year instead of trick or treat.

So, I asked them to hold on for one more minute, went and got a plastic shopping bag, and put a boatload of candy in it, and gave it to them.

Their smiles and profuse ‘thank you’ made my evening.

Stupid ol’ me needs to get some explanation and clarification please. Can someone who posts here that has some professional expertise please explain the “Reverse Bradley Effect”. It is the latest propaganda out of the Democrats and the pundits. It would seem to indicate that there is a segment of the Caucasian voting population that has gone through months and months of this endless campaign telling pollsters, interviewers, and media types that they support McCain. On some level, according to democrats, this flags them as known bigots, racists, and rednecks. Now on election day, these people are going to go into the private sanctity of the voting booth and cast a ballot for Obama. Why??? They were willing to bear the tinge of the racist label in public but in private they will vote their heart and elect based on their true values? What the heck would the psychology of this type of voter be? I might understand the psychology of a closet bigot but what would be the motivation of a closet racial neutralist? You are afraid of having pollsters not consider you a redneck? The “Reverse Bradley Effect”?? Who thinks this stuff up???

I know it would be impossible, but if I NEVER heard the words:

    Barack
    Obama
    Biden
    McCain
    Maverick
    Hope
    Change
    Straight-talk
    Reach-across-the-aisle

and a few more words/terms that I now cringe at when hearing, I’d be a happy boy.

Funny you should mention that, Mistressjustice leveled that on me the other day, when I told her I had seen just 3 or 4 Obama signs in my neighborhood. Bass-ackward way of thinking, IMO. Or maybe, wishful thinking.

One more open thread random short story. I had an appointment with my audiologist earlier this past week( huhwhat is related to this need). At the end of the session, she asked me what I thought about the upcoming election. I hesitantly said, “well I hope the wrong one doesn’t get in.” Her follow-up questin was, who might the wrong one be? So, against my better judgement, I honestly answered, Obama. Much to my relief, she said,”I hate that A$$HOLE.” Made my day. She is an early forties dynamite looking blonde. I was so afraid she was gonna turn out to be liberal.

I spent the last few days in a VA hospital.

This election does seem in to quieter than others in many respects–less bumper stickers, less yard signs and lapel pins.

My Palin 08 yard sign is gone.Twice that has been an issue. Many do worry about the actions of the Obaminites.

    Head Games Coming Your Way:
    (1) Calls for McCain to just give up and quit, because the race is over. This one is a favorite of the trolls who lurk on pro-McCain sites.

The ONLY way McCain loses this race is if the media, operating as a full-fledged wing of the Obama campaign, breeds enough Eeyores amongst you to keep enough people home for Obama to squeak out wins. Hillary Clinton should have won Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana, by larger margins that she did. Ohio should have been a 13-point win, Pennsylvania should have been a 12-point win, and Indiana should have been a 9-point win. Eeyores staying home, saying, “Oh bother, TV say me stay home, me sad, need dydee changed!” is what cost Hillary those extra points.
