McCain was RIGHT about the surge and Abizaid was wrong. We needed a counterinsurgency doctrine and a general that knew how to peruse it. Had we kept Abizaid we would have lost Iraq.

The counterinsurgency doctrine has always been there. Your lack of knowledge of GEN Abizaid and his strategy prove to me that you did not read my comments from Hotair concerning this matter. The “surge” was not the winning element, but rather our working by, with, and through Iraqi units. Just posting additional Soldiers in the middle of an insurgency does not accomplish anything. GEN Abizaid had been calling for and was implementing that strategy while Petraeus was stateside at Ft. Leavenworth.
