How Obama blocked the wealth generators in Pueblo, Colorado
Barack Obama held a campaign event in Pueblo, Colorado over the weekend.
The entire city was shut down — and many businesses were prevented from opening.
As Obama reminded the nation during his amber waves grain infomercial last week, people are hurting.
Obama made them hurt even more. Welcome to spreading the wealth by blocking wealth generation. How did he compensate the small business people impeded from making money? By giving them tickets! Narcissus shrugged:
Barack and Michelle Obama will be in Pueblo Saturday. They will hold a rally at 3 p.m in the Union Avenue district. But the doors to some of those businesses will be closed.
For security reasons the secret service has ordered some of them to shut down from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m. Saturday. But some owners say they lost money Friday, too, because of construction work to build platforms and stages.
“You shouldn’t just meet Joe the plumber, meet Julie the salon owner, who is mad that you closed me and ten of my girls down for two days,” said Julie Aragon, owner of Studio 127 salon on Union Ave. Aragon and other business owners estimate they’ll lose hundreds of dollars Saturday because of the secret service restrictions.
“I can’t even open my door tomorrow,” said Rhonda Murry, the owner of an antique shop on Union Ave. Murry spent $150 to attract customers in town this weekend for a large antique fair. “This was a big antique weekend and we’ve lost our revenue for basically two days,” said Murry.
The small business owners in the area wanted to know–”Who planned this?” said Aragon.
According to the city of Pueblo, the Obama campaign selected this site. The campaign office wouldn’t comment on their site selection process, but members of the Obama campaign gave the affected business owners VIP tickets to the rally to make up for the inconvenience. For some, that wasn’t enough. “Although it may be a nice picture on the wall, how is that going to change our financial status, it doesn’t,” said Terre Heath, owner of Studio 127 salon on Union Ave.

Sheila Conlee, proprietor of Amore Antiques & More, is one such aggrieved business owner. She tells us this weekend is typically one of her busiest, as Pueblo plays host to a twice-annual antiques fair. The only problem is, she had no choice but to shutter her shop for the day.
So, as any good patriot is wont to do, Conlee exercised her First Amendment rights in protest. She adorned the front windows of her shop with signs exclaiming, “I am Sheila the Shop Owner and I lost my wages today thanks to you Obama”, “Socialism is not Democratic,” and “I am Proud of my Country.”
The Obama campaign didn’t take the criticism lightly. Event setup crews parked two porta-potties in front of Conlee’s store, using them to anchor a white tarp hung to obscure the storefront from view.
“I guess this is a sign of things to come if he is elected,” wrote Conlee in a Sunday e-mail to FTS.
Yup, just more gangland tactics from the Obama machine.

A skateboard park here in Springfield MO was forced to close on Sat night for O’s rally which was across the street. I live just down the hill and can see both places. Lots of skateboarders were riding down the street, seeing the roadblock and then turning back. Bummer dude!

We moved to Colorado Springs this summer and haven’t visited Pueblo yet. I’m inclined to go specifically to visit Amore Antiques & More. Methinks Sheila the Shop Owner now ‘gets it’ about Obummer.

This sounds a lot like how the Dems behaved in Boston for the 2004 convention.
Understood 30 pcs, but I remember going to a Palin rally and she had a bunch of people P.O. over not being able to enjoy their park. It was in Carson at the Home Depot center. 100′s were blocked from enjoying their Saturday.
To be fair, it was not her that blocked the people from enjoying their day, it was the Secret Service. Should she have gone to another venue?
Be scared my friends. Surround yourselves with good people and start building a support network. 2012 has to be the target date to bring America back.
I don’t see how any campaign or even the Secret Service has the right to tell a business owner they have to shut their business down in order for a campaign to hold a rally.

Seriously though, I don’t think her rally affected local businesses. It’s unfortunate that the kids weren’t able to skate in the park but I don’t believe any businesses were shut down nor were they graced with porta-potties the front their businesses.

My in laws are going to the Sarah Palin Rally in Colorado. My father in law told me. if he can take photos. he will take some for me. He doesn’t know if he can bring his camera. Colorado Springs is Military and Retired Military how many are voting Obama/Biden? I suspect not to many.
I guess the MSM will not say a word about Sheila’s shop. As an antique dealer myself, I am pissed! She probably makes a good percentage of her yearly income during these antique fairs. Shutting one of them down takes more from her than a weekends worth. But no one really cares…

The story that the ‘secret service’ was closing stores seems real fishy. I have been worked in businesses very close to campaign rallys and they dont just close down businesses. The secret service certainly checks out the security arangements, but they do not just close down businesses. I have to wonder if there is a very blurry line between the secret service and Obama’s ‘personal’ guards.
And clearly, the secret service would not be placing porta johns anywhere, so that was done in a vindictave manner by the Obama campaign people.
Seems like the hate of Obama and his supporters hass no bounds in this campaign. It is very hard to see ANY sort of reconcilation after this election by Obama or his minions.

I spoke with a friend who is former Secret Service and he informed me NO agent would be putting port-a-potties anywhere, especially at political rallies where they are too busy watching the candidates and the crowds. Moving anything is not part of their duties. He said it was probably handled by Hopenchange’s people.

Most cities have venues for large gatherings. Denver’s is Civic Center park, or one of the stadiums. Jeffco is the fairgrounds, as is Pueblo’s. Traffic may be annoying, but businesses don’t get shut down.
I guess he wanted to shut down downtown Pueblo just because he could.

Holy cow…our little town of Pueblo makes national blog! Thank you, Michelle! Yes, last Friday, this story made the local paper, the Pueblo Chieftain. That section of the downtown has undergone quite a rebuild over the last few years and by the business owners own sweat AND RISK to a great degree. The city built a “river walk” right on the edge of the Union Avenue district which added greatly to the attraction. Now this abomination. Yes, signs of what’s to come under BHO.
Uncle Monkey #52, that Chieftain article also quoted a “lifelong Democrat” at the previous rally. I’ll have to paraphrase him but he said that his parents were Democrats and he will always be a Democrat. Since he doesn’t think he has much time left, he’ll be a Democrat until he dies. I find that frustrating attitude all around the area. No matter what you try to discuss about Obama, they don’t want to hear the facts. Especially the younger people. They have no working knowledge of history, no working knowledge of how a business operates, how business accounting works. You try to explain what Obama will cause in the business world and they shrug…maddening. But that’s Pueblo and Pueblo County as a whole. A long time union centered economy. Yes, the unions, in the past, have helped greatly in correcting horrendous working conditions for people, but that was long ago. The schools have not taught reality for too long and we are paying the price. As I’ve pointed out, someone said last year, the opposition’s greatest asset is an ignorant electorate. Rush said this morning that this campaign’s electorate is showing itself to be history’s most ignorant in their blind following of Obama.
Blame America Last #64, one day last week, Debbie Schlussel (.com) had a story that was sent to her about (I think it was) Detroit cops that were ordered to NEVER be seen by either of the Obamas even though they were charged with guarding their safety. The Obamas did not want to even SEE the cops that were protecting them. The cops had to HIDE when the Obamas moved about. That sucks. You can imagine their opinion of the Secret Service. Sounds like the stories emanating from the Clinton years. God help us.

I used to work in one of two office towers connected to the Ritz Carlton in our city. When the VP came to town for a dinner, they turned the electricity off in both office building at noon with the dinner set for around 6pm. Lucky for me they had windows ’cause I had to stay to answer the phones. Can you say boring?
