The truth serum in San Francisco

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 3, 2008 12:34 PM

This morning, I joked on Fox and Friends that San Francisco acts like a truth serum on Barack Obama. It’s where he trashed western Pennsylvanians as Bible-thumping racists clinging to their guns and religion. And it’s where he told the SF Chronicle that he plans to bankrupt coal companies and engineer huge energy price shocks to save the planet. (background links here and here)

Allah clipped the F&F video — watch here — and notes that Sarah Palin riffed on Obama’s San Francisco candor this morning:

“There must be something about San Francisco,” she said. “I heard on Fox News today, it’s like a truth serum where when he’s there, he seems to be more candid.”

It was at a San Francisco fundraiser earlier this year that Obama got into trouble, suggesting rural voters “cling to religion and guns” because jobs were being lost. Palin referred to them Monday as “bitter clingers” and “cling-ons.” (There goes the Star Trek vote?)

And it was Obama’s comments to the San Francisco Chronicle on fees for coal emissions that brought on Palin’s most recent attacks.

“So he’s talking to the San Francisco Chronicle, and he says that sure, if industry wants to try to build these coal-fired power plants, they can go ahead and try, but they’re only gonna be able to do it in a way that bankruptcies the whole industry, the coal industry,” she said. “Now he’s comfortable with this happening.”

Meantime, the Ohio Coal Association weighs in:

Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association (OCA), today issued the following statement in response to just-released remarks from Senator Barack Obama about the nation’s coal industry.

“Regardless of the timing or method of the release of these remarks, the message from the Democratic candidate for President could not be clearer: the Obama-Biden ticket spells disaster for America’s coal industry and the tens of thousands of Americans who work in it.

“These undisputed, audio-taped remarks, which include comments from Senator Obama like ‘I haven’t been some coal booster’ and ‘if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them’ are extraordinarily misguided.

“It’s evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state’s voters.

“Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation’s coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to ‘bankrupt’ our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.

“In addition to providing an affordable, reliable source of low-cost electricity, domestic coal holds the key to our nation’s long-term energy security – a goal that cannot be overlooked during this time of international instability and economic uncertainty.

Spread the word. It’s not too late.

    From the PUMA site:

Coal generates roughly 54% of the power consumed in the US through over 600 separate plants. http://www.ucsusa.org/clean_energy/coalvswind/c01.html

If Obama puts them out of business, just where will we get our power from? It takes roughly 10 to 20 years to build a nuclear plant, and the cost is enormous. That timeline and expense does not factor in delays caused by environmental protest and litigation.

How do we replace over half of our current power needs? The only viable solution in the intermediate term is oil. Of course, the plants currently burning coal would have to be retrofitted at a hefty expense, but why would we do that?

We very recently got a lesson in our reliance on foreign sources of oil. We can be held hostage. Now, Obama opposed drilling domestically and offshore (says now he “may” do it), so he is pretty much wed to continued reliance on foreign sources. Not only that, he wants to INCREASE our reliance on foreign oil by requiring us to replace coal with oil. Insane.

Insane, unless there are other motives at work here. IF the US became energy independent, that would be close to $1 trillion a year that stayed within the US economy. Particularly hard hit would be the Marxist regimes of Hugo Chavez and the Muslim/Arab world whose economies are overly dependent on oil exports.

By killing coal and killing domestic oil production, Obama would be actually increasing our dependence on foreign oil and increasing the economic clout of foreign oil producers, most of whom have no qualms about using oil as an economic weapon against the US.

This is beyond naive. It is downright dangerous. It would be national suicide to follow Obama’s path. The US would die a slow death, bled dry by other countries using their leverage in the oil markets to destroy us economically.

    I agree, 100%!

IMHO, when Barack is in San Fran, he is among more like minded individuals so he relaxes a bit more.. he doesn’t have to guard what he says as much.. hence.. more ’slips of the tongue’ to be taken out of context.

That’s just one sector of the economy.

Elitist liberals, all over the country, have adopted “San Francisco Values”.

If proposition 8 passes in California, I would expect much mischief and violence from radical homosexuals in California.

When a segment of the population is unwilling to accept the results of elections, we are on the road to losing our democracy. This has already happened in about 8 states already where voters passed referendums on banning gay marriage, but the activists were unable to accept the result of the election. Activist lawyers then “shopped” these cases to liberal judges in state courts. Eventually these judges overturned the vote of the people in every state where gay marriage is now legal.

This happened in California several months ago. Now there is a referendum on Tuesday’s ballot that will overrule the California court if passed. If the voters in California, once again vote to ban gay marriage, I do not think that the gay activists will accept this result. I think they will turn to violence, intimidation, smear tactics, claims of voter fraud and any other means at their disposal to nullify the vote.

The root cause of this behavior is the change in American culture. Many Americans no-longer believe in a power greater than themselves and universal spiritual principles. When you substitute “San Francisco values” for spiritual principles, the inevitable result will be chaos. Raising a ruckus is what unprincipled people do best when they don’t get their way. I do not see this trend reversing unless America gets back to the core values that made this nation great.

    Found this:

The 2008 GOP primary for the right to challenge freshman Democratic Rep. Zack Space of Dover is getting crowded.

Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association, is the latest Republican to declare his candidacy — just six months into Space’s first term in office. Carey, 36, contends that while the war in Iraq and immigration reform are overarching issues, people in the conservative-leaning eastern Ohio 18th district aren’t happy with the direction House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California is taking the new Democratic majority.

But my journey is part of a larger journey – one shared by all who’ve ever sought to apply the values of their faith to our society. It’s a journey that takes us back to our nation’s founding, when none other than a UCC church inspired the Boston Tea Party and helped bring an Empire to its knees.

    Barack Hussein Obama,

Delivered in Hartford, CT on June 23, 2007

Except that The Declaration of Independence, and the American Revolutionary War that ensued, were NOT about bringing the British “Empire to its knees”. It was about breaking free from tyranny and establishing a government of the people, by the people, and for the people…a government which would protect, not take away, the people’s God-given (endowed by their Creator) unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. By the words out of his own mouth, Barack Hussein Obama has confessed that his god is Allah (with Mohammed as his prophet), and he has not confessed “Jesus is Lord”. As such, it is appropriate to read his “journey” as:

But my journey is part of a larger journey – one shared by all who’ve ever sought to apply the values of Islam to our society. It’s a journey that takes us back to our nation’s founding, when none other than a [G-d d-mn America!] church inspired [riots] and helped bring an Empire to its knees.

Anthropogenic (Man-made) Global Warming is a complete and utter hoax, just like Darwinian macro-evolution, but the fascist Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy stifles any dissent, preventing any “intelligent” debate.

Do you think Russia or Venezuela care about carbon emissions? No.

The Democrat[ic Socialist Communist]s learned in August how angry American voters are about $4/gallon gas. So, in two months they have all but reversed the price increases that happened over the last two years that they have been in power. Just in time for the election.

    Who is manipulating gas prices?
How long do you think those prices will stay down after the election? If Democrats remain in control, you can look forward to $5+/gallon gas quicker than you can say “Obama’s gonna CHANGE it, rearrange it: the Constitution and the New Communist Bill of Government Rights.”

Redpill #82, spot on, once again. There is never a rationale given for the US “reducing global emissions,” esp. in light of the fact that other countries with larger populations and proportionately larger “carbon footprints” aren’t doing the same.

The conclusion that Obama and friends want to destroy the US is not just a logical deduction from an assemblage of facts, it comes from Obama’s own words, which have been cited over and over again. Some of the most famous ones being spoken to Joe the Plumber and to the SF liberal elite.

I for one, think that changing to clean and renewable energy sources is a good thing, and a necessary one, given the danger of fossil fuels. The country and its workforce will evolve with the technology as they have through every new chapter in it’s development.

Obama promising higher energy prices right after we’ve had nearly $4/gallon gas, I would hope, would convince people not to vote for him

You don’t seem to understand though. To the Liberals and Democrats, $4 a gallon gas was still too low. They envision a day when the price for gas is well over $10 a gallon, thus forcing people to go back to the horse and buggy, bicicles etc. They want to force people into buying into the entire Global Warming Hoax, thus the only way they feel they can do so is to put the cost of such things as coal and oil and gasoline etc., well out of the reach of the common man.

Look at what he is saying. He is saying that the only way to get people to use “Alternative Sources” is to bankrupt the coal industry. It does not stop there, nor will it. Look at how they rejoiced at the cost of oil, yet continued to refuse the drilling of it in our own country. Instead, we need to fill our tires and tune up the cars, take public transportation and ride bikes. That is NOT an energy plan.

Now, I am not claiming that Obama is a Muslim. However, if you look at his policies, look at what he has stated he would like to do and what he will do, he is basically wanting to do the exact same thing that Islam wants. To do away with cars, electricity, and the luxuries that this country has come to depend on and expect.

No more air conditioning, no more power plants, no more anything, until we look to the Amish to find out how we are to live. Even then, the emissions of horses in the form of methane gas releases will come under Government Regulations and end up taxed.

    2) Alaska and Hawaii were taken through “Imperialism”, so they shouldn’t be states. Oil-rich Alaska should be given back to the Russians, and Hawaii should be made its own sovereign country (an organization by the same name as Bill Ayers’ Communist Manifestor “Prairie Fire” has such an article about Hawaii).
