Unhinged knitter of the day

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 3, 2008 02:08 PM

I’m a crocheter, not a knitter. I’m wondering if maybe there’s some sort of ideological divide between the two groups — because it seems there’s a considerable population of unhinged moonbat knitters out there.

Check this out, via reader J., who is an undercover conservative knitter on a left-wing knitting website. (Not Safe For Work warning.)

And check out the Palin-hating knitter’s blog banner:

What the…?

That PDS knitting project and blog reminded me of this group of anti-war “subvervise knitters” I blogged about last year:

Some of the artists address ”issues of politics, gender and ethics,” as a wall text puts it, in a general way. Janet Echelman’s giant, hand-knotted nylon net hanging from the ceiling in the museum’s entryway recreates the look of a nuclear mushroom cloud. Freddie Robins’s sinister-looking gray-knit bodysuit, with the words ”Craft Kills” emblazoned across the chest, alludes to the airline ban on knitting needles in the post-9/11 era.

The works most in keeping with the show’s politically charged title are more interactive and collective, or more related to performance. For example, Cat Mazza’s collectively crocheted ”Nike Blanket Petition,” a campaign against sweatshop practices represented here in a series of photographs, will be sent to Nike’s corporate headquarters.

A video of Dave Cole’s ”Knitting Machine” project shows two John Deere excavators wielding telephone poles tapered to look like knitting needles — and missiles — to knit a giant American flag in the courtyard of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Mass.

Knit 2, Purl 5, Conservative-Bash 10.

Crochet for me too, left-handed. My poor mom was never able to teach me. I taught myself when I was on bed rest for my first pregnancy. Now I’ve taught my own daughter.

My grandma both knitted and crocheted. But her generation learned for practical reasons, not as a political statement.

I’m a multi-crafter — crochet, knit, cross-stitch and latch-hook — but I certainly don’t have the kind of free time necessary to simulate mushroom clouds or to knit bodysuits. Sheesh.

I can’t begin to figure out how you man the AP/UP wires, read other blogs including Hufpo, DU and Kos (bless your heart), go on FOX as often as you do, blog almost all day every day, read the comments, read your e-mail (which I would think would be a full-time job in itself!) and be with your family, etc. I’m sure I haven’t covered all of it. You’re amazing. God bless you.

I belong to a website that is dedicated to needlecraft. They strongly lean towards knitters but they accept us crocheters (sometimes grudgingly)as well. The site has message boards for both pro McCain and for that other guy running. I am on a Nobama message board on that site and there are knitters and crocheters there but I have to say I think there are more crocheters that are pro McCain.

My bf in Iraq just received a hand knit blanket from me. It’s cold at night now and I’m helping to keep him warm. Many knitters and crocheters send handmade blankets to Iraq and Afghanistan. Bless them.

None of it made sense at all, and the fact that so many Lefties and Liberals feel that they need to be so incredibly vulgar in order to make a point speaks to the very nature of their souls; dark, empty voids that don’t hold an ounce of kindness to anyone but their own.

I don’t know what it is about fiber arts that attracts loons. Quilt artists are mostly moonbats, too. Someone tried to put together an exhibit of election-themed quilts for the recent International Quilt Festival in Houston, and while they tried to make it bipartisan, there were only Obama quilts. Art quilt exhibits are also heavy on the “social justice” and “anti-war” crap, too (the 2004 and 2006 IQF had several Bush-bashing quilts; “racial justice” is a popular theme, too).

I think there might be one or two conservative quilt artists, but their work is not political (landscapes, color studies).

(One of my favorite quilters–I took a class with her in October 2004–went cat-poop crazy with BDS after Kerry lost; the quality of her work has really gone downhill. It saddens me.)

As to that, I think it’s their general tendency towards iconoclasm. They see a stereotype–in this case, the elderly crafter with eight cats–and must destroy it! Though, I’m iconoclastic too, in this instance. I’m fresh out of college and only have two cats. ;)
